The Detroit Red Wings and their young guns have clawed back into this thing, all while the NHL trade world had a massive bombshell deal. Tune in as we open (after commenting on the response to Kucherov's trip on Rasmussen) (00:00) by discussing the home Hockeytown win over Lane Hutson and the Montreal Canadiens, including Dylan Larkin leading the way in his 700th game, Lucas Raymond's increasingly elite abilities, Jonatan Berggren, Alex DeBrincat, and Andrew Copp contributing (after Simon Edvinsson's block), & more (5:35). Next, Marco Kasper & Cam Talbot leading Detroit to a 2-0 win over Andrei Vasilevskiy & the Tampa Bay Lightning (even without Patrick Kane), including Kasper's redirect, Albert Johansson's fantastic play, Lilleberg's hit to J.T. Compher's head, a chippy game with Cirelli, Hedman & Co., and Nikita Kucherov's dirty trip on Michael Rasmussen's empty net goal (16:05). After that, a look at how the Red Wings rookies have been playing steadily better under Todd McLellan, including Elmer Soderblom, and what that means for future players like Nate Danielson & Carter Mazur - as well as a look at where Steve Yzerman's squad sits in the NHL wild card playoff race (28:45). Next up, a look at the NHL Quarter Century Team for the Detroit Red Wings (Steve Yzerman, Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Niklas Kronwall, Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Osgood, Sergei Federov, Dylan Larkin, Brendan Shanahan, Chris Chelios, Brian Rafalski, Dominik Hasek), and whether Jimmy Howard or Mo Seider deserved a look (43:50), as well as an update on Axel Sandin Pellikka's plans to leave the SHL after this season to play for either Detroit or the Grand Rapids Griffins (48:20). We then jump into the insane blockbuster trade that happened in the NHL, as the Colorado Avalanche sent Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes for Martin Necas (with Taylor Hall, Jack Drury, and other pieces coming into play thanks to the Chicago Blackhawks): what does this mean for MacKinnon, Makar & Co., how everyone did in the trade, whether the Red Wings can still sign Rantanen in free agency, where the Vancouver Canucks trying to thrade Elias Petterson and J.T. Miller fit into this, & more (51:40) before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (1:17:25) - enjoy! No goal! We've got no goal after Vancouver Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs saves a puck with his glove that might have been over the line… but a good goal for the Florida Panthers' Sam Bennett after he cross-checked Charlie Coyle into Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman. We also have some goaltender interference on the Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky. No call! Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid gets away with one after he bloodied Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes with an uncalled high stick. How was it missed, and what can the officials do about it afterwards? No control! Chaos ensues after the buzzer at Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks, when a Connor McDavid slash prompts a pair of cross-checks that resulted in a fine to Nikita Zadorov and a suspension for Carson Soucy. Did Player Safety get it right? We're not quite sure…No video! Florida's Sam Bennett delivered a sucker-punch that knocked Boston's Brad Marchand out of the lineup, but no penalty was called… no suspension or fine were offered… and no clear video of the incident was available - until just before the next game. How does that happen? No way! Vancouver's Elias Petterson picks up a charging penalty for a jumping reverse hit. You don't see that every day, but that doesn't mean it's not a penalty. (Heck, most reverse hits are already interference.)Also, sad news out of Hamilton with the passing of long-time NHL and WHA referee Bill Friday at age 91. LIVE from Hudsons Canada's Pub on Whyte Ave, Tom Gazzola & former Oilers goalie Joaquin Gage recap what happened in game 4 of the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks series!   Joaquin Gage joined to break down the play of Calvin Pickard and what he looked like during his first NHL Playoff start.   He then looked at the Oilers defencemen and how they protected the front of the net. Gager thinks the Oilers in their zone and the offensive zone were a step ahead.   After some discussion, the boys head into the locker room to hear from the man who has had a point in all 9 playoff games thus far, Leon Draisaitl.   We also hear from Kris Knoblauch, Mattias Ekholm, Calvin Pickard and Evan Bouchard throughout the show.   Gager and Tommy continue on to talk about some potential "sleeping giants" on the Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers. Gazzola brings up Connor Brown while Gager sheds some light on the veteran Corey Perry.   After hearing from Calvin Pickard, Gager shared his thoughts on what he had to say after getting the win in goal.   We then hear from the other side from Rick Tocchet!   Zachticum then breaks down 'The Big Save of the Game' presented by Christopher Boyle where Zach gives it to Arturs Silovs when he made a series of saves on the powerplay.   Zach then lays down the 'Player of the Game' presented by Damon Bunting where he goes to the many who started and won his first career playoff start in the NHL!   Tom Gazzola closes the show out by looking at a few texts and into the Nasty Chat!       GAME SUMMARY:   In the first period, both teams put on the pressure with the Oilers being the only team to capitalize doing so off the stick of Leon Draisaitl on the powerplay.   During the first frame, Evander Kane took a 4-minute minor with a crosscheck against Tyler Myers and the Oilers were able to kill it off.   In the second period, both teams had their chances and extended zone pressure but the offensive zone play went in favour of the Edmonton Oilers where Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored in the 39th minute of the game right before the break.   Entering the third period, the Oilers were gifted another powerplay but Vancouver was able to kill it thanks to some game-savers by Arturs Silovs. Connor Garland from the slot with about 13 minutes left in the period made it a one-goal game.   After scoring their first of the game, the Canucks continued ticking up their zone time pouring on more shots towards Pickard.   During one moment down the stretch, Arturs Silovs played chicken with Evander Kane to deny him a rush on goal.   To try and tie the game, the Vancouver Canucks pulled their goalie with 2:30 left.   With Silovs pulled, Elias Petterson won a faceoff against Derek Ryan and Brock Boeser was able to rip it towards the net and tie it with a bounce off a body in front with the rubber getting in off the heel of Dakota Joshua.   The two clubs grinded it out in the last minute with Draisaitl going to work in the Canucks zone where he sent it to the point for Bouchard to take the lead once again.

We start by talking about the Wild and how they have been able to right the ship after a rough start to the season. We discuss Judd Brackett's draft history with the Wild, and how he has done since leaving Vancouver a few seasons ago. We discuss the hot start for Brock Boeser, leading the NHL in scoring with 18 goals and feeling at home after nearly leaving Vancouver last year. We discuss the differences Rick Tocchet has provided since he took over, and the odds that Elias Petterson stays in Vancouver after looking certain he would leave early last year. We discuss the Chicago Blackhawks, who are getting good play from Connor Bedard as expected, but also getting great production from Corey Perry and others to help him out. We also discuss Arizona beating New Jersey to start the season, which is a great start to the year in a season where they hope to be in the playoff conversation at the end of the year. We discuss the goaltending issues for both Edmonton and Los Angeles, as well as the scoring drought so far from Seattle. The assumption is that these will all correct themselves soon, but it is worrisome to see them as issues considering those were areas that needed to be addressed before the season started.Subscribe to our YouTube Channel: Locked On WildFollow/Subscribe Anywhere: linktr.ee/LockedOnWildFollow Locked On NHL: linktr.ee/lockedonNHLSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Jase Medical - Get $20 off these lifesaving antibiotics with Jase Medical by using code LOCKEDON at checkout on jasemedical.com.Sleeper - Download the Sleeper App and use promo code LOCKEDONNHL to get up to a $100 match on your first deposit. Nick wonders where the goals will come from with Matt Duchene leaving for Dallas and players with injury history leading the way for this year's team. Nick also wonders what things look like under new coach Andrew Brunette. For the Vancouver Canucks, Seth wonders if the Canucks can continue the strides they made under Rick Tocchet. Nick wonders what happens if things don't go according to plan for the Canucks, with extension questions looming around Elias Petterson, and other big salaries on the books. Seth also wonders if Thatcher Demko can build off of a strong finish to the 2022-23 season. For the St. Louis Blues, both Seth and Nick wonder if they are in a position to contend, and if Jordan Binnington has more solid seasons in him after a down year last year.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!DoorDash - Get fifty percent off your first DoorDash order up to a twenty-dollar value when you use code locked at checkout. Four players, including two goaltenders, could return to the VGK lineup during the three-game road trip in Canada, which begins Tuesday night in Vancouver. Netminders Logan Thompson and Laurent Brossoit are back as are Nic Roy and Keegan Kolesar. A third goalie, the veteran Jonathan Quick is also on the trip. Cassidy said Monday that he wasn't sure who would start the opener in the crease, or if all three goalies would see time. Thomson last appeared in a game on February 9. He has a record of 20-13-3. Laurent Brossoit played in just three games. Roy hasn't been in the lineup since the Chicago game on February 21. Kolesar has been out of action for ten days and should find is spot available amongst fourth line starters on Tuesday. VGK has 12 games remaining and Cassidy said Monday that he wants to put the best lineup on the ice. There is a lot of competition to play right now with the healthy bodies returning. Vancouver, under new coach Rick Tocchet, has won eight of nine games. They are playing better, especially on the defensive side, since he took over. The Canucks are out of the playoff race, yet they are continuing to play solid hockey. This week in anguish: - Despite winning the week, we fear we are living in the twilight of the idols. We love our new management group and their putative vision, but who will be the first to go once Jim starts to philosophize with a hammer? - Perhaps, if we all just close our eyes and misunderstand Bayern Munich's slogan hard enough, we can all stay as one big happy family after all.  - Welcome Cammi Granato! You have risen to great hockey heights while reflexively batting off prejudiced attacks for over 20 years...but can you withstand our withering critique of your slapdash workflow as a children's author? - Yo Juho, I'm really happy for you, and I'ma let you finish, but the Canucks already had one of the best player-of-the-game objects of all time. One of the best of all time! - If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting different results, surely our plan to once again draft Elias Petterson in 2022 is flawless.    Thanks for listening! Complete Sports Media welcomed back Dale Cory into our podcast forum to discuss the NHL playoffs. This breakdown comes just as we have started the second round of the NHL playoffs. The Vancouver Canucks had a crushing 5 to nothing beat down at the hands of the Las Vegas Golden Knights in game one. This was definitely not the way the Canucks faithful wanted the series to start but they were exposed for their shortcomings and played their worst game of the playoffs. This is only one game so it is definitely not time to panic but they must turn in a much better game two to give hope and confidence to themselves and their fans. The Canucks young guns Bo Horvat, Elias Petterson, Brock Boeser and Quinn Hughes all struggled mightily in game one. The Canucks MVP of the season and playoffs Jacob Markstrom also seemed to really be fighting the puck and wasn't positionally strong in the Canucks net. The entire team needs to put forth a better effort in the next game and series. Coach Travis Green needs to put a game plan in place and make a series of this one. We spoke about all of the other series as the top eight NHL teams are still alive and fighting for the Stanley Cup. Enjoy the breakdown. Take care Love yah Bye for now!

It’s December 2ndand the William Nylander Opus is over!  He has signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs for 6 years, 41.77 million dollars. The shock here…only that it took so long to get where they could have been at the beginning of the season. Mike believes that there is or was something else going on behind the scenes (an injury, perhaps) and Chris tends to agree. Buffalo is the surprise story of the NHL thus far, and there appears no slowing down for the surging Sabres. The Boston Bruins retired Rick “Nifty” Middleton’s number 16 this past week.  It was a nice ceremony, not at all over the top.  Master of Ceremonies Andy Brickley was eloquent and a delight to listen to for the service.  Rick Middleton was a fan favorite and showed off moves that even now are crowd stunners. The Twitter Poll last week focused on the rookies and whether anyone could possibly catch Elias Petterson.  The winner, with 56 percent, was no one or someone other than the players listed. At this point in time we tend to agree with the 56. We discuss the possible career ending hit on Daniel Paille by Thomas Larkin.  The hit took place two years ago and Paille has not played since. The Swedish prosecutor, Joakim Johansson, has charged Larkin with assault for the blindside hit which may have ended Paille’s career. The Flyers are still in flux after having fired their GM, Ron Hextall.  There has been no replacement hired, and president Paul Holmgren has stated that he will leave the fate of the head coach up to the next GM. The issue here is that the team needs a complete overhaul and we discuss the moves that need to be made. Are the Forecheckers in the prognostication business?  No, but there are plenty of teams that need extensive work, the worst of the bunch being the St. Louis Blues.  Give a listen and share your opinions as Mike and Chris talk about the possibilities of moving most of the roster to other teams. Seattle is looking like a lock to be, as Mike puts it, number 32.  They have sold 30,000 season ticket deposits and have passed all the hurdles up to now.  On Tuesday, they face the final hurdle, a vote to approve the city as the next NHL franchise. Bowen Byram’s dad, Shawn, played 5 games in the NHL.  It is a record that he would be happy to see Bowen break someday.  Bowen is eligible for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.  We will keep an eye on Bowen and report on his progress at a future time.  Good Luck Bowen! Finally, Mike may be having a change of heart regarding David Krejci.  He still states that the B’s should have traded him after the Stanley Cup win, but Mike has also stated that this may be his most impressive season to date.  We discuss why as we wrap another episode of the Two Man Forecheck.  As always…give us a listen, share your opinions with us and enjoy the show!

Mark and HockeyProspects has Elias Petterson ranked fifth, based on hockey IQ and skill, but says Petterson has to get stronger
