Air New Zealand has been named New Zealand's Most Attractive Employer for the seventh time, according to Randstad's latest Employer Brand Research. The HR and recruitment specialist surveyed 4302 Kiwis, with the market's 150 largest employers eligible for the recognition. While Air New Zealand bumped last year's winner, Evolve Education, it could be seen as a continuation of its dominance in the category, given Randstad doesn't allow an organisation that wins the most attractive employer accolade three years in a row to be eligible for the award for a period of three years. The airline previously held the title between 2017 to 2019 and 2011 to 2013. And Air New Zealand overnight was named by Australian website AirlineRatings.com the Airline of the Year for 2023, a remarkable seventh time it has won that award in the past 10 years. AirlineRatings said the airline was being honoured this year for its multi award winning in-flight innovations such as the SkyNest economy beds, operational safety, environmental leadership and motivation of its staff. Randstad said the national carrier achieved the most attractive employer accolade based on its reputation, interesting job content and financial health. Air New Zealand chief executive Greg Foran said: “We're humbled to have been named the country's most attractive employer for the seventh time. This distinction reflects the resilience and commitment of our people, and the hard mahi and dedication they demonstrate every day. Randstad country director Richard Kennedy said Air New Zealand's achievement recognises their commitment to moving on from the Covid-19 pandemic. In February, the airline reported an after-tax net profit of $213 million for the six months to December 31, compared to a loss of $272m in the previous period. Covid-19 paralysed the aviation industry and delivered a near-$1 billion blow to Air New Zealand that same year - and further heavy losses - which forced the Government to step in and help in the form of a loan. “We've had a tough time over the past few years, and I especially want to thank our customers who have stood by us, even though we struggled at times to deliver the standards we pride ourselves on,” Foran added. “The key reason we got through it was because of the unwavering support of our people. We will continue to foster a welcoming culture where our staff can be authentically themselves and feel part of the Air New Zealand whānau.” New Zealand Customs Service and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) were second and third in Randstad's research respectively. “I would also like to congratulate NZ Customs and MBIE who continue to perform exceptionally well every year, which is no mean feat in the current economic climate,” Randstad's Kennedy said. Nigel Foster, Customs' deputy chief executive people and capability, welcomed the recognition alongside its key airline partner. “Customs is here to protect and promote Aotearoa New Zealand across borders and shares a great sense of pride and camaraderie in not just protecting our country and interests, but also looking after our people and those we interact with,” Foster said. “Many Customs officers who join stay with us for decades, finding the culture and purpose aligns with their own. What are the differences between salmon and sea trout? What are their migration patterns when they get to the ocean? Find out what scientists from the Compass Project have learned about these fascinating fish from my conversation with Dr Richard Kennedy.Salmonids are fascinating fish and that's not only because of their life history strategy. They also have huge importance for the health of ecosystems. And, albeit to their detriment, they are also important for the economy. Of course, I cannot omit the fact that they are prized by anglers as sport fish. Even though we already had a general discussion about salmon in episode 63 and a talk with men facing the dangers of fighting with salmon poachers in episode 51, today we offer a different perspective with more of a focus on sea trout. This is another episode dedicated to research conducted during the COMPASS project and as the title suggests we focus on salmonid studies. Our guest today is Dr Richard Kennedy who is a Senior Science Officer at AFBI (Agri Food and Bioscience Institute). During our conversation, we talk about the differences between salmon and sea trout, and their conservation status as well as dedicate a significant chunk of our discussion to the aims and achievements of the COMPASS project study. And if after listening to this episode you still want a deeper dive you can check the scientific papers on Richard's Research Gate profile.https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Richard-Kennedy-7Subscribe to Tommy's Outdoors NewsletterSupport the Podcast and Buy Me a Coffee: buymeacoffee.com/tommysoutdoorsRecommended Books: tommysoutdoors.com/booksHats and T-shirts: tommysoutdoors.com/shopFollow Tommy's Outdoors on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Facebook Hosted on Acast. New cases of COVID-19 are down 90% from the peak, with under 75,000 new cases reported last week across the U.S. "What we're observing is a pretty dramatic suppression of cases," explains Dr. Gregory Poland, head of Mayo Clinic's Vaccine Research Group. "This is good news, but we need to be cautious."Dr. Poland warns that there are still people who are vulnerable to COVID-19 infection, including people who are immunocompromised; children under 5 who cannot yet be protected by COVID-19 vaccination; and the more than 30% of the U.S. population that is not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to Mayo Clinic's COVID-19 tracking tool data."'I'm as weary of COVID-19 as everybody else," says Dr. Poland. "But we still need to take this seriously." On the Mayo Clinic Q&A podcast, Dr. Poland discusses the latest COVID-19 news, including new COVID-19 vaccines coming for approval; the latest on long COVID; and his recent commentary with his colleague, Dr. Richard Kennedy, a Mayo Clinic internist, on the need for more research infrastructure and research funding in order to maintain public confidence in vaccines.

The Scottish nature writer Jim Crumley takes the Slightly Foxed team on a tour of literary landscapes, from the lochs of the Trossachs and the mountainous Cairngorms to Aldo Leopold’s sand county in Wisconsin and Barry Lopez’s Arctic. Together they trace the chain of writers who have influenced Jim, from Robert Burns and Wordsworth to Thoreau and Walt Whitman, and see nature through the eyes of his hero, the great Scottish naturalist and photographer Seton Gordon. They discuss how folklore has demonized the wolf while Jim believes its reintroduction could hugely benefit the ecology of the Scottish landscape. And finally they venture off the beaten track with this month’s wide-ranging reading recommendations. Please find links to books, articles, and further reading listed below. Slightly Foxed Editors Gail and Hazel take us between the pages of the magazine, bookmarking articles along the way. Crack the spine of the quarterly to discover T. H. White taking flying lessons, smutty book titles, a passion for romantic ruins, John Berger shadowing a remarkable GP, a rebellious Mitford ‘rescued’ by a destroyer, a night to remember on the Titanic and much more besides. From correcting proofs to welcoming writers with a host of experiences, the story of putting together an issue of enthusiasms unfolds. And in this month’s reading from the archives, a hapless apprentice at the Hogarth Press recounts his disastrous stint with the Woolfs. Richard Kennedy, the deputy president of the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA), calls for changes to be made to the country’s trespassing and bail laws in order to protect farm families from criminal gangs. Plus, Jackie Cahill Fianna Fail’s spokesperson on food, horticulture and forestry explains the actions that his party is taking to tackle the threats of rural crime and rural isolation
About a year back I recorded this brief interview with my patient, friend, and hero Mr. Richard Kennedy. He passed earlier this month unable to celebrate today. I think we should all celebrate this great American.
He flew 34 missions over occupied territory during WW II in the back of a B-17 as a tail gunner. I'm proud to be able to care for someone who is responsible for my freedom. When I stand for our National Anthem I stand in silence, and with respect, for people like Richard Kennedy.

We were joined in the studio today by Top of Virginia Regional Chamber CEO, Richard Kennedy & Director of Program/Development, Jody Wall to talk about the State of the Schools presentation coming up on Wednesday, January 25th from 11:30pm - 1:30pm at Holiday Inn Winchester Historic Gateway - 333 Front Royal Pike in Winchester. The chamber is again hosting this yearly event in partnership with the Winchester Area chapter of Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), & Lord Fairfax Community College Workforce Solutions. Rachel Schaeffer from Winchester SHRM, and Dr. Jason Van Heukelum, Winchester City Schools Superintendent also joined us to talk about the topic of the presentation: Creating the Workforce of Tomorrow through Partnerships. The State of the Schools address will be a joint presentation featuring the Superintendents of the City of Winchester Public Schools (Dr. Jason Van Heukelum), Clarke County Public Schools (Dr. Chuck Bishop), and Frederick County Public Schools (Dr. David T. Sovine) for local Winchester Area SHRM Chapter and the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber member/prospective member businesses. The joint presentation will provide updates on the status of each school system in addressing the workforce issues recently identified by the Business and Industry Summit hosted by the Frederick County Economic Development Authority. The Business and Education Workforce Initiative vision sets forth a plan to have a skilled workforce that meets the needs of local employers by understanding the skills required by students to function independently in society. Goals of the plan include developing strategies to have students know and demonstrate required work skills in concert with those identified by the community and local industry. Learn how the school systems will address closing the skills gap of the future, and how they intend to focus on increasing the number of eligible and skilled candidates within our community. There is no cost to attend the event if you're a member of SHRM. Born in the mind of John Randle at the age of 14 when he first entered his school's press room, the Whittington Press started life in a disused cottage. Its first book, Richard Kennedy's A Boy at the Hogarth Press, was printed on weekends during 1971-1972 on an 1848 Columbian. Matrix - the Randles' revered annual publication on fine press printing - started out as a planned slim volume of some thirty two pages saddle stitched into stiff covers; the objective was for it to serve as “ a means of seeing in print a few short pieces which would not in themselves justify the production of individual titles, but which together might make a worthwhile publication.” Matrix 1 grew to seventy two pages, and had to be square backed. With it the Randle's created an environment in which “author, artist and printer, punch-cutter and type-caster “can work separately and together to both nurture and explore each others' skills. The revered annual provides an important platform for typographical dialog among and between fine press aficionados on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. I met John Randle recently in his repurposed gardener's cottage to talk about his Press, his calling, and his thoughts about the practice of fine press printing.

Richard Kennedy, a Mayo Clinic internist, on the need for more research infrastructure and research funding in order to maintain public confidence in vaccines.Research disclosures for Dr. Gregory Poland.
