Viewers in the U.S. can watch the festivities on most broadcast and cable news channels. Check your local listings for details. And now the latest updates from The Associated Press on both the ceremony and the drama. King Charles, the third plans to take a shortcut and smooth a ride to Westminster Abbey for his coronation. Charles, is innovation tremulous at the procession route his mother, Queen Elizabeth, took in 1953 as he aims for a more modest event that will include some modern touches. Buckingham Palace says, however, the lower key ceremony on May six will still be steeped in ancient traditions and adorned with the royal regalia from the crown jewels, but will also feature its bespoke emoji, reflecting the first British crowning of the social media era Queen Elizabeth. The second was the first coronation televised 70 years ago. The 1.3 mile route is a bit shorter than the one Elizabeth took to the Royal Church, passing a statue of Charles, the first the monarch beheaded in 1649 before arriving for the 11 a.m. religious service. Charles de Ledesma, London. King Charles III joins as many as 2800 guests for his coronation on May the sixth at Westminster Abbey. His complicated family will once again take center stage. There's a second wife, an embarrassing brother, and an angry son and daughter in law, all with allies who aren't shy about whispering family secrets in the ears of friendly reporters. How King Charles manages his family drama over the coming weeks and years is crucial to the king's efforts to preserve and protect the 1000 year old hereditary monarchy. Editor of Majesty magazine Jay Little, says Charles's ongoing family drama was never going to justice appear. I think it was inevitable that when Charles became king, the loss of the personal stuff would come back to haunt him. Royal historian Robert Lacey says the standards were set too high. The British monarchy is supposed to be representative, and that used to be thought to mean It's got to be ideal, it's got to behave in absolute, immaculate fashion. Well, that wasn't realistic and proved not to be realistic in facts. Lacey believes Charles's fractious family may be easier for the British public to identify with. But I think most people in Britain find an imperfect and honest family easier to live with. Karen Chammas, London. Buckingham Palace says Prince Harry will attend his father's May 6th coronation. Harry's attending the coronation service of his father, King Charles, the third at Westminster Abbey. Setting aside months of speculation about his presence. The palace adds Harry's wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, will remain in California with the couple's two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Harry's attendance comes despite a rift within at the House of Windsor, prompted by Harry's decision to reveal family secrets in his bestselling book Spare. Charles de Ledesma, London. As the coronation of King Charles, The third fast approaches. All eyes are on Camilla, the queen consort who will be crowned alongside her husband's. The moment will mark the culmination of years of efforts that helped to transform her image from being one of the most reviled women in the country to becoming a likable, down to earth hard worker. Ingrid Seward, editor in chief of Majesty magazine, explains. Just by giving it time and going gently, gently, she has managed to show people the real person that she is and that she's not this villainous. However, spiritedness, her triumph is not a complete one. But there are still people in this country and there are a lot of people abroad who will never forgive her for being the third person in the marriage. Camilla herself admitted last year in an interview with Vogue magazine that she had learned to live with the scrutiny of her past. Karen Chammas, London. Towns and cities will be awash with union flags and patriotic decorations to celebrate King Charles the Third's coronation this weekend. But the events, viewed with a large dose of ambivalence by some in Britain's diverse communities. Darren White, a descendant of migrants from Jamaica, and Adriano Phillips Durrant, a musicians with the Brixton Chamber Orchestra here, rehearse ahead of the Coronation Carnival. While whites excited about the gig, he tells the Associated Press that some might find it hard to connect to the whole occasion. With the economy on the precipice of recession. While Forbes says it's strange that the event would happen at a time when people don't really have the money to get by. I have mixed opinions on kind of on general, kind of like the royal family and the coronation. Just but just because I think that there are, you know, bigger things happening in Britain right now. Across the capital, John Pan, Basra, the head of Southall Community Alliance, says people are going through a cost of living crisis. Is it fair that there is so much attention and resource being put into a massive coronation celebration when people are in record numbers having to rely upon food banks facing poverty on a believable scale? Elsewhere in Southall, proprietor guru Anand recalls the Royals demeanor when he ate at his restaurant. Charles, he says, actually listens to you, wants to know where you've come from. Charles de Ledesma, London. Thousands of British military personnel will join King Charles's coronation. The UK Defense Ministry says 6000 troops, including soldiers, sailors and aviators, will participate on May 6th, making it the force's biggest ceremonial deployment for seven decades. Thousands of them will escort the king and Camilla, the queen consort, as they travel by gilded horse drawn coach between Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abbey. Gun salutes will sound from British army bases and warships and military aircraft, including World War two. Spitfires will perform a flypast. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace calls it a spectacular and fitting tribute to King Charles, who is the armed forces commander in chief. Mimi Montgomery, London. Tourism industry officials have high hopes the May six coronation of King Charles will provide a vital boost to the industry, which is still reeling from two years of COVID 19 shutdowns. Outside Buckingham Palace, Patricia Yates, chief executive of the VisitBritain Tourism Board, says she hopes next week's coronation, the first for nearly 70 years, will be a great success. Events like this really kick start at the recovery, don't they? And they put Britain on the world stage again. And goodness, we do that so well. Pageantry around the coronation will just be amazing. History, heritage and the Royals are the biggest draw for international tourists, Yates adds. And royalty, a particular magnet for Americans who are driving the country's tourism recovery. Queen Elizabeth. The second platinum Jubilee celebrations last year brought in an extra 2.6 million visitors to London, and Charles's coronation is expected to have a similar effect. Visitors to London's Westminster Abbey will be allowed to stand for the first time on the exact spot where King Charles The third will be crowned, though they'll need to make sure they don't have holes in their socks for the Shoot US tour meant to protect the Abbey's medieval mosaic floor. Abbey officials say the section of the church's floor, known as the Cosmati Pavement, where the coronation chair has been placed for some 700 years, will be on display during Charles's crowning ceremony. Vanessa Simeon, head conservator at Westminster Abbey, says it will be a unique visitor experience. It's such a rare opportunity. Nobody apart from the clergy go up to this space. So for visitors to come here and be able to walk on the pavement and get up close and look at the designs and all the different materials that make up this incredible piece of art, it's going to be just a once in a lifetime experience. The intricate mosaic of marble, stone, glass and metal located in front of the Abbey's high altar was commissioned by Henry the third in the 1200s and made by Italian craftsmen. It's said to be the best surviving example outside Italy, of course, Marti after the Italian family which created it. Charles de Ledesma, London. The Biden administration is defending the decision to have First Lady Jill Biden attend King Charles Third's coronation instead of her husband. The president told the king in a call his wife will attend on America's behalf. We're proud that she's going to be representing the United States. Asked why the president himself will not be at Westminster Abbey, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said there is precedent. President Eisenhower did didn't attend Queen Elizabeth's coronation either. In fact, no sitting U.S. president has ever attended a British royal coronation. On the events invitations, Buckingham Palace officially identifies the king's wife for the first time as Queen Camilla. Sagar Meghani, Washington. I'm Terry Lipshetz, thanking you for listening. The fifth series of Netflix's The Crown was released on Wednesday. Airing two months after Queen Elizabeth II's death, the new series focuses on a turbulent decade for the royals in the 1990s. There has been criticism of the series, prompting Netflix to add a disclaimer to its marketing saying the show is a "fictional dramatisation", "inspired by real-life events". Today's Mishal Husain speaks to Robert Lacey, historical consultant on The Crown and author of many books on royalty, including two biographies of the late Queen. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 7 My new puppy is doing great but I don't let him sleep in my room. Chandra started watching Blonde and it's not as bad as she expected. (Update: She finished and it's bad.) Roger Federer retired after playing his final match with Rafa Nadal and it was sadder than Chandra expected.  Royals: Minutes 7:00 to 30:00 Last week we had the Queen's funeral on Monday. We were surprised how long the public portion was and didn't expect the Windsor portion to be aired. Both Harry and Meghan were impeccable and regal at the many ceremonies despite everything that's been thrown at them. Harry stood out and the cameras kept finding him and Meghan. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the Queen. Kate and William seemed especially happy after the Queen died and Kate sure helped herself to the Queen's jewelry. When I die I want a quick funeral so people can go about their day. There are three new royal books out now. Valentine Low's book is Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Throne, that seems to have the most tea, Katie Nicholl has The New Royals and Angela Levin has Camilla From Outcast to Queen Consort. Valentine Low seems to know that his sources are racist.  In Valentine Low's book Meghan is blamed for the way she was treated by the palace staff. These talking points were pushed by the palace earlier to Robert Lacey for Battle of the Brothers. It goes far beyond victim blaming and proves that Meghan was downplaying the abuse she endured. Low gives a bunch of examples of the royal staff being incompetent and rude to Meghan while her reactions seem perfectly reasonable. At one point Meghan disagreed with the plans a female staff member had made and told her to change them. When the woman said it would be too hard, Meghan responded “Don't worry, If there was literally anyone else I could ask to do this, I would be asking them instead of you.” Meanwhile Charles sounds like an awful boss. He's gone through five secretaries in seven years and he calls his staff at all hours of the day, including on Christmas. His office is described as toxic and the staff are backstabbing. Nicholl's book has the detail that we've heard before that William can't forgive Harry and that William “always expected Harry would be his wingman.” She also writes that Charles is holding Archie and Lilibet's titles over the Sussexes' heads depending on what Harry reveals in his memoir. We got so many stories about how and why Meghan wasn't invited to Balmoral when the Queen took a turn for the worse. It was telling that instead of focusing on the Queen after her death the press was about the Sussexes and everything they were supposedly doing wrong. We heard that Meghan wasn't invited because Kate didn't come for whatever reason. We wish Meghan would come out and say how despicable the royal family is, but they've been showing that with their actions. Meanwhile there are all these stories about whether Harry and his family can make up. Charles is said to have hope that they can but Gayle King reported that there was no peace deal at the funeral. Harry's kids don't have titles and Harry and Meghan have been demoted on the Royal.uk website to the bottom. We don't think Harry will dish the dirt in his first memoir but hopefully he will in his future books. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about Charles. We talk about how Queen Margrethe of Denmark removed the royal stylings and titles from her grandchildren without telling them first. The Cambridges are sort-of stepping into their roles as Prince and Princess of Wales. They went to Wales, where William tried out his rudimentary Welsh. It was supposed to be a low key visit. It doesn't seem like they knew they were getting the Wales titles right away. Comments of the Week: Minutes 30:00 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Light Purple on the story where Khloe Kardashian claimed she was engaged to Tristan Thompson last year. My comment of the week is from Lunchcoma on the post where Brad Pitt said that Emily Ratajkowski is hot. Thanks for listening and subscribing bitches!

Other royals are expected to attend many events, given the Games are happening on home soil.It comes after the Queen sat out many key events at her Platinum Jubilee celebrations last weekend. One royal expert has today suggested there was a selfless reason for the Queen missing several of her own celebrations, claiming the monarch wouldn't have wanted to risk worrying people with a fall or stumble."She would not want to stumble – not for her own sake but for the distress, it would cause other people," royal historian Robert Lacey told People. At the end of the Platinum Jubilee, the Queen did publicly acknowledge her absence throughout the weekend."While I may not have attended every event in person, my heart has been with you all; and I remain committed to serving you to the best of my ability, supported by my family," she said.Meanwhile, it's been revealed that the Queen enforced one strict rule behind closed doors as she met Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle's daughter Lilibet for the first time. It's been claimed the couple wanted to bring cameras along to capture the meeting for their Netflix reality series – so the Queen's team enforced a strict "no cameras" rule.An insider said: "Harry and Meghan wanted their photographer to capture the moment Lilibet met the Queen. But they were told no chance. It was a private family meeting."Harry and Meghan family flew back to California on Sunday afternoon without a snap.

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 7:00 We will have an episode out next week and are off May 14th. I finished the first season of Yellowstone and really liked it. Chandra is watching Gaslit and loves Betty Gilpin and Dan Stevens's performances. Chandra really liked The Batman and thinks Robert Pattinson was excellent. Royals: Minutes 7:00 to 32:00 There are two new royal books for which we are getting advanced details and interviews with the authors. The main one is Tina Brown's The Palace Papers: Inside the House of Windsor–the Truth and the Turmoil, which came out this week on April 26th. Brown has sources in the palace as well as in the Middleton camp. Brown's book takes Harry and Meghan's strengths, like their shared vision of helping people and Meghan's skill at public speaking, and makes them sound like they're bad and a nefarious plot. Meghan is called “actressy” and characterized as swag-hungry. Chandra has been reading and reporting on the book. In the book, Brown is bitchy to everyone but in interviews she's very complimentary to Kate. Her talking points are much different than what she's been writing. In an interview Brown called Harry “unbelievably arrogant” for saying he was concerned about his grandmother. She is racist against Meghan and is downplaying the very real racism Meghan has faced, comparing it to the classism against Kate. In an interview with Marie Claire Brown trashed Meghan. She said that “Meghan got angry so fast, and that's what's rocked the family.” This is the angry Black woman stereotype. Brown has not acknowledged the fact that Meghan said in the Oprah interview that she was suicidal while she was pregnant and being smeared by the press. She does not take Harry and Meghan at their word. In the book Brown said Harry liked Meghan because she didn't come from his “narrow circle” and she “was of a breed he had not encountered.” That's so racist. Chandra mentions that Brown uses the word “ghetto” in the book when describing Meghan's career on TV cable. Brown also wrote that Kate was jealous of Meghan's style and that she was jealous of her sister, Pippa. In another part of the book, Brown wrote about how Carole coached Kate to land and keep William. Carole strategized with Kate about how to handle William when he was cheating on her. Another royal book is coming out on June 21, William at 40: The Making of a Modern Monarch, by Robert Jobson. The advance story we heard from that is about what a rage monster William is, which we already know. Harry's strength in being a calm, even-tempered person who has been to therapy is painted as a weakness by the press when William is the one flying off the handle. Chandra credits Robert Lacey's book Battle of Brothers for setting the narratives that these other royal biographies are following. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen and Zakia wonder about the press messaging. Chandra says that the Invictus Games was a turning point that showed how petty and negative the British press is. The Wessexes did their Caribbean tour, where they're getting much the same reception as the Cambridges did on their struggle tour just with less publicity. Sophie and Edward tried to do it low key, but they still got told that several Caribbean countries want reparations and intend to become republics. When the Queen passes, the commonwealth will be all but over. Prince Charles and Camilla are doing a three day tour of Canada from May 17th to May 19th. Chandra wonders why he's going for such a short time and thinks it's because he doesn't trust his relatives around the Queen. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the royal tour and the commonwealth countries. Kate did an outing in London with Princess Anne on Thursday where they visited their maternal health patronages. There are about three photos where Anne and other people are side-eyeing Kate. I asked Chandra if she had larger versions of those photos from our agency and curiously those unflattering photos were the only ones out of the set which were lower resolution. Comments of the Week: Minutes 32:00 to end My comment of the week is from notasugarhere on the post about Donald Trump telling Piers Morgan that Prince Harry is whipped. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5 We'll have another episode out on October 16th and will be off the 23rd. Thank you to all our new and old subscribers! I watched Squid Game and loved it. Chandra has been watching Billions, which just ended season five. Royals: Minutes 5:00 to 20:30 It felt kind of flat in royals news this week since Harry and Meghan's tour, but we got a lot of stories nitpicking them as usual. The Daily Mail speculated that Meghan must be doing a beauty line since Harry and Meghan took a private plane to New York owned by the infomercial company Guthy-Renker. Chandra assumed that they just rented the plane but it turns out that Harry and Meghan know the head of the company, Bill Guthy, and that they possibly did the Oprah interview on his estate. If Meghan started a beauty line we would definitely buy her stuff. There's also speculation that they could move to New York. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen, Courtney and Lisa talk about this, including Dan Wootton's column claiming Harry needs to resign from Netflix due to the Diana musical. The Cambridges likely asked The Sun to delete the photo of them out at lunch that came out on the Sunday after the Sussexes NY Tour. The Sun seemed to have their permission to post it along with a sugary writeup but the photos were deleted with no fanfare a couple of days later. The story remained available at The Sun. Chandra thinks the Cambridges hated being called out for it and that's why they wanted the photos taken down. There have been all these weird embiggening pieces about the Cambridges claiming that they're down to earth and that they still hang out with their school friends. Battle of Brothers author, Robert Lacey, claimed that William had “broken the cycle” of marital problems in the royal family by sticking with Kate essentially. This reminds me of Dan Wootton's quote that Kate and William would stay together as long “as they're both alive.” Lacey made it sound like the Cambridges are just staying together for the kids. Kate went to University College London's Centre for Longitudinal Studies, which has done research on child development for decades. Kate has the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood which she announced in mid June, but we didn't hear much about it afterwards. After her visit to University College London, there was a piece in People Magazine that made it sound like Kate was responsible for the research from the university. Everything is centered around Kate instead of the research and children. Katie Couric: Minutes 20:30 to 27:15 We've heard excerpts from Katie Couric's upcoming memoir, Going There, and she sounds like a terrible person. In the first excerpt we heard that Katie refused to mentor other women because she saw them as competition. She also said that Ashleigh Banfield was the next big thing and that she didn't mentor her on purpose. Ashleigh, who works at News Nation now, responded to that and said she was hurt by it. She later realized that Katie likely sabotaged her career. In other excerpts Katie is sympathetic to Matt Lauer. She also made her nanny out to be awful and claimed the nanny was trying to ruin her marriage to Jay Monahan, who passed away in 1998. In response the nanny talked to The Daily Mail and detailed what a piece of work Katie was. Comments: Minutes 27:15 to end Chandra's comment of the week is by Amy Bee on the post about how Kate was “supporting research.” My comment of the week is from Bookie on the post where Meghan Trainor said she had toilets installed side by side so she could pee next to her husband. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 3:30 We've been off for two weeks due to the Met Gala and the Emmys. We'll have two more episodes after this one and then are taking October 23rd off. There have been so many events lately because they got put off. Our job has been really busy and we've felt burnt out. Royals: Minutes 3:30 to 29 Harry and Meghan did a three day tour of New York City last weekend! During and after Harry and Meghan's tour we saw the Keens more in a week than we have in months. It was so ridiculous and obvious. On Thursday Harry and Meghan did an appearance at One World Trade Center with Mayor De Blasio and Governor Hochul. They also had a roundtable discussion at the World Health Organization. On Friday they visited a public school in Harlem and ate at a popular restaurant there, Melba's, which they donated to. On Sunday the Sussexes appeared at the Global Citizen Festival to talk vaccine equity. Friday William met with the President of the Football Association and Kate had an event with British tennis stars including Emma Raducanu. Chandra says it seems like the Cambridges' events were thrown together at the last minute but that seems to be typical for them. On Sunday the Cambridges had a “pub lunch” with their children that happened to be captured by a photographer and described in cloying detail by The Sun. It definitely seemed to be set up ahead of time. On Tuesday USA Today published William's op-ed about climate change that he co-authorized with Michael Bloomberg. We also heard that William is doing a five part Discovery streaming series about his Earthshot prize initiative. Tuesday night the Cambridges went to the No Time to Die Premiere dressed to the nines along with Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla. Then Wednesday they went to Northern Ireland for a surprise visit. It seemed put together at the last minute to one-up the Sussexes. When they visited a university with a petting zoo for students' mental health they didn't mention their mental health organization, Heads Together. Mike Tindall, the husband of William and Harry's cousin, Zara Philipps, made a “joke” about the royal family wanting to punch Harry. He said that he and his friends tried to throw punches at Harry in 2003 and that the royal protection officers stopped them. Harry would have been 19 while Mike and his buddies were around 25. Chandra thinks that Mike, Zara and Harry had a falling out over Meghan. Will and Kate are covering People Magazine this week with the title “The Making of a Modern King,” even though Charles will be king next. Battle of the Brothers author Robert Lacey wrote part of the article and he's obviously being fed information by William. Lacey said that “a new leader – William not Charles – is paving the way forward.” People wonder whether Charles will stand up to William. Chandra thinks Charles won't give William the Prince of Wales title once The Queen passes. As usual, the British press criticized Harry and Meghan but gave William and Kate a pass for doing similar things. For instance Meghan's makeup was nitpicked and her eyebrows were called “Hollywood” while Kate's makeup at the 007 premiere was praised and presented more like a tutorial. Meghan was also concern trolled for wearing a coat in warm weather in NY. I didn't like Kate's Jenny Packham gown but Chandra did. We both thought her hair looked heavy and lopsided, but her makeup looked good. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about this. There's speculation whether Meghan and Harry will come back to the UK for the Queen's Jubilee next year or if they'll come for Christmas. Chandra thinks that Harry has told the Queen he wants to bring his children to visit her and that the people around the Queen are freaking out about this. I play a segment from Zoom where Monique, Ameerah, Zakia, Karen and April talk about this. Americans love Harry and Meghan and the British press hates this. Comments of the Week: Minutes 29 to 34:45 Chandra's comment of the week is from JT on the post about how William is paving the way for the monarchy. My comments of the week are from Jezebeelzebub and Same on the post about Mila Kunis doubling down on not bathing her kids. They were once so close.Princes William and Harry grew up together, supported each other after their mother's untimely death and worked side by side as they began their royal duties — two brothers seemingly bonded for life by blood, tradition and tragedy. But those links are now painfully strained as William sits in London defending the royal family from allegations of racism and insensitivity made by Harry and his wife, Meghan, from their new home in Southern California.Royal watchers will be looking closely for any signs of a truce — or deepening rift — on Thursday when William and Harry unveil a statue of their mother, Princess Diana, on what would have been her 60th birthday. The event in the Sunken Garden at London's Kensington Palace will be their second public meeting since Harry and Meghan stepped away from royal duties over a year ago.People shouldn't expect a quick resolution of the conflict because the two men are fighting over core beliefs, says Robert Lacey, a historian and author of "Battle of Brothers: William, Harry and the Inside Story of a Family in Tumult.'' William is defending the monarchy, and Harry is defending his wife."It's a matter of love versus duty, with William standing for duty and the concept of the monarchy as he sees it," Lacey said. "And then from Harry's point of view, love, loyalty to his wife. He is standing by her. These are very deeply rooted differences, so it would be facile to think that there can just be a click of the fingers."But finding some sort of rapprochement between the princes is crucial to the monarchy as Britain's royal family seeks to appeal to a younger generation and a more diverse population. When Harry married Meghan just over three years ago, it seemed as if they would be central figures in that next chapter of the royal story. The Fab Four — William and his wife, Kate, together with Harry and Meghan — were seen as a cadre of youth and vigor that would take the monarchy forward after the tumultuous 1990s and early 2000s, when divorce, Princess Diana's death, and Prince Charles' controversial second marriage to Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, cast doubt on the future of the institution.Meghan, a biracial former TV star from Los Angeles, was expected to be an important part of that effort, with Black and Asian commentators saying that for the first time there was a member of the royal family who looked like them. But the words "Fab Four" were quickly replaced in tabloid headlines by "Royal Rift."First, their joint royal office was dissolved. Then, Harry stepped away from royal duties and moved his family to North America in search of a more peaceful life. William pressed on with royal tasks, including goodwill events like accompanying his grandmother to Scotland this week to tour a soft drink factory. The relationship was further strained in March when Harry and Meghan gave an interview to U.S. talk show host Oprah Winfrey.Harry confirmed rumors that he and his brother had been growing apart, saying "the relationship is 'space' at the moment" — though he added that "time heals all things, hopefully." Harry also told Winfrey that his father, Prince Charles, didn't accept his calls for a time. And then came the real shocker. The couple revealed that before the birth of their first child, an unidentified member of the royal family had expressed concern about how dark his skin might be. Days after the broadcast, William responded, telling reporters that his was "very much not a racist family."But whatever their disagreements, out of respect for their mother, William and Harry won't put their differences on display during the statue ceremony, said historian Ed Owens, author of "The Family Firm: Monarchy, Mass Media and the British Public 1932-1953," which examines the royal family's public relations strategy."We're not going to see any acrimony or animosity between the brothers on Thursday,'' Owens said. "I think reconciliation is a long way off, but nev...

Intro: Minutes 0 to 5:30 We will be off for the next two weeks as we’re taking a break next week and the week after that is Easter. We’ll be back April 10th! Royals: Minutes 5:30 to 39:30 Last weekend Duchess Kate visited the memorial for murdered Londoner Sarah Everard. Kate wasn’t wearing a mask and brought her own videographer. So many stories and headlines centered her the next day instead of the woman who was killed or the women there to pay their respects, many of whom got arrested. I play a segment from Zoom where Sara and Ameerah talk about this. Chandra says Kate wouldn’t have pulled this stunt if it wasn’t for Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview. She was trying to change the subject from the stories about her making Meghan cry. Minute 9:15 We got more stories about how angry Prince William is. The palace first started centering their PR strategy around William’s rage about two years ago as the Sussexes became more popular. Robert Lacey noted in his book Battle of The Brothers that William responds to Harry with anger so often. Chandra wonders why they keep pushing this story of Prince William as the angry guy who throws tantrums. Minute 12:15 Gayle King revealed that she spoke with Harry last weekend. Harry told her that he had talked to his father and brother, but that it was unproductive and that they did not talk to Meghan. After that we heard that William had trust issues with Harry and was worried his brother would continue to spill to American outlets. The Windsors have been so obvious in trying to smear Harry and Meghan and they’re getting outplayed every time. Minute 14:00 Gayle also said that Sussexes wanted to heal the rift with Harry’s family. Chandra says Gayle was making the point that William and Charles needed to check in on Meghan and recognize the pain they caused her. Gayle said that Meghan has receipts. People think Meghan has written off Harry’s family and he’s still trying to reason with them. It’s like he was in a cult and needs deprogramming. Chandra thinks Meghan was the one who wanted to compromise and Harry was the one putting his foot down with his family. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen, Sara, Michelle and Alnaaze talk about this. Everyone loved Chandra’s “engorged” title. The commenters have been calling William “Baldimort!” Minute 19:45 The royals have also hired a law firm to supposedly investigate the “Meghan bullied staff” lie that they were pushing. They’re not going to release anything nor are they going to give Meghan access to their “evidence.” Chandra says this shows that Buckingham Palace wants to get this off their plate and don’t want a part in Kensington Palace’s smear of Meghan. Meghan contacted Buckingham Palace and asked for documentation, which was handed over to Prince Charles’ staff, Clarence House. Minute 21:45 The Cambridges released Mother’s Day cards written by their kids to “Granny Diana,” which came across as exploitive. Minute 24:15 Prince Charles was supposedly going to do a “point by point” rebuttal of the claims in Harry and Meghan’s interview but didn’t want to get into a “tit for tat.” It seems like The Queen isn’t really in charge and like Charles is acting as the de facto regent. Chandra wonders what his game plan is. Charles had rehabilitated his and Camilla’s image post-Diana but that all blew up after the latest season of The Crown. Minute 26:00 Kate is still so fixated on this false narrative that Meghan made her cry. Katie Nicholl wrote that Kate found Meghan bringing up that story to Oprah “mortifying,” and that “she has been saddened, disappointed and hurt.” It’s wild how they cannot let this go. Minute 28:00 Michelle Obama was asked for her reaction to Harry and Meghan’s interview. We were really surprised by her somewhat shady responses. Chandra wonders why she didn’t find a more diplomatic way to say “no comment.” Hillary Clinton’s comments about the interview, on the other hand, were excellent. I play a segment from Zoom where Alnaaze and Zakia talk about this. Sometimes the healthiest option is to get away from a toxic family. User Feedback: Minute 39:30 to 41:15 Thanks to Alyssa for leaving us a nice voicemail! Comments of the Week: Minutes 41:15 to end My comments of the week are from Aeren and Merricat on the post about Sharon Osbourne’s interview on ET. Chandra’s comment of the week is from Andrew’s Nemesis on the post about how long Jennifer Lopez wanted to break up with A-Rod.

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 3:45 We’re going to take next week off due to the election. Our next release will be on November 8, 2020. Chandra has been laughing at social media, like Trump releasing his 60 Minutes interview thinking it made him look good. Giuliani got caught in a hotel room with his hands down his pants with a young woman. Both Chandra and I have already voted. Please make a plan to vote if you haven’t already. You can do that through IWillVote.com. Royals: Minutes 3:45 to 11:45 Harry and Meghan did a Time 100 talk where they talked to experts about online media and mental health, and the fact that disinformation and hate is spreading. In one section Meghan and Harry talked to two experts, one was one of the main experts from a documentary on Netflix called The Social Dilemma. His name is Tristan Harris and he founded The Center For Humane Technology. The other expert was UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry co-director Safiya Noble. She wrote a book called Algorithms of Oppression, How Search Engines Reinforce Racism.  I watched The Social Dilemma and was floored at how Facebook specifically led to the rise in QAnon, misinformation and the genocide in Myanmar. Chandra points out that Harry and Meghan are making this a larger conversation instead of focusing on the hate they get. Minute 7:45 We got a lot of promotional interviews with Robert Lacey, the author of Battle of The Brothers. He’s been talking out of both sides of his mouth about The Sussexes and The Cambridges. Minute 9:15 Will and Kate did a couple of events on Tuesday and they’re not consistently wearing masks. They only wore masks while meeting hospital workers. The Queen did an event for the first time in seven months and did not wear a mask. They made a big deal about the fact that The Queen and everyone around her was tested, which is still a bad look. She should be promoting mask wearing. Chris Pratt: Minutes 11:45 to 18:30 We had the big Avengers GOTV fundraiser with Kamala Harris this week. Right before that, there was a mild meme with the four famous Chrises asking which one had to go. Everyone picked Chris Pratt because he’s a member of an anti-LGBTQ church and once gave away his cat on the Internet. This conversation has been around for years, but it got picked up by major outlets. Chris’s wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, and other celebrities including Robert Downey Jr., Zoe Saldana and Mark Ruffalo jumped in to defend Chris in an over-the-top way which was not warranted by the meme. Because the tweet got popular right before the Avengers Biden event, which Pratt did not participate in, people conflated the two things. The defense of Chris was ridiculous. It’s very privileged of white men to be “apolitical,” especially at this point in history. It reminded Chandra of the defense of Chris Evans for leaking his own pics. When Brie Larson got so much hate online hardly anyone defended her except for Don Cheadle. I play a segment from Zoom where Ameerah, Lisa and Zakia talk about this. Ghost stories: Minutes 18:30 to 30:00 We told ghost stories in episode 34 if you’re looking for another spooky episode. Chandra read an article in People about haunted roads and was reminded of a incident when she was driving home late at night on back country roads after visiting her mother. You have to listen to hear the details of that! I play a segment from Zoom where Amber, Karen, Alnaaze and Kimberlyanne tell stories of encounters, coincidences and loved ones visiting them. Under His Pinkeye: Kamala Harris wins debate against fly-covered misogynist.  The Republicans are blocking a stimulus package while trying to push a Supreme Court nominee through. I play a segment from Zoom where Karen and Ameerah talk about how evil and out of touch the Republicans are. Royals: Minutes 17:45 to 30:45 We’re surprised how much dirt there is against the Cambridges in the new royal biography by Robert Lacey, Battle of Brothers: William and Harry – The Inside Story of a Family in Tumult. Chandra thinks the book overstates how mad The Queen supposedly was at Meghan and that the courtiers were the ones who had a problem with her. The Queen and Prince William were said to be super mad that Meghan and Harry kept the details around Archie’s birth private, especially the fact that they’ve never revealed the godparents. Chandra thinks this was William’s issue. When The Queen did her 2019 Christmas message she had no photos of Harry and Meghan on her desk and she didn’t even mention Archie’s name, just saying she welcomed her eighth grandchild. The Queen did that heir photoshoot with Charles, William and George meant to show the order of succession. It was said to be Charles’ idea and sent a clear message to Harry that he wasn’t needed. We also heard more details around William telling Harry to go slow with Meghan. William apparently asked their uncle, Diana’s brother Earl Spencer, to talk to Harry about Meghan and of course Harry didn’t like that at all. Chandra mentions that Earl Spencer is on his third marriage and has a dozen kids. (He has seven.) The royals were also upset about Meghan’s British Vogue cover, which featured activists and women of color, because that was supposedly “political.” We agree that they wouldn’t have liked it if she posed for an editorial like Kate did either. The rest of the royals apparently found Meghan too “woke” and not in step with the monarchy. The good dirt we heard from the book was around Kate and William’s early relationship, in which Kate organized her entire college career around William. This information was known before, but I didn’t know the extent of it.  We heard a lot about William’s temper too.  I play a segment from Zoom where Courtney and Karen talk about this book. User Feedback: Minutes 30:45 to 33 Thanks to Darla for pointing out that I was thinking of Callista Gingrich last week when I brought up Republican hair. Charfromdarock loved Chandra’s giggling during the Trump update. Comments of the Week: Minutes 33 to 38 My comment of the week was from Vanessa on a post about Katie Holmes and Emilio Vitolo. Chandra’s comment of the week is from Seraphina on the post about Kate putting herself in William’s path at every turn.  Thanks for listening bitches! Text us or leave a voicemail at 434-218-3219.

Given his early years as a bookish Jewish boy from the Russian Empire, very few people would guess that Meyer Lansky would become a giant of the American underworld. This podcast examines Meyer Lansky's childhood and examines how a studious, well behaved kid became a ruthless young gang leader. I relied heavily on Robert Lacey's excellent biography of Meyer Lansky, "Meyer Lansky, The Thinking Man's Gangster" for most of the material. I also used "The Five Families" by Selwyn Raab for background.

Three days later and the fallout from Prince Andrew’s BBC interview keeps coming: today university students and a big accountancy firm are distancing themselves from the duke. Prince Andrew appeared on Newsnight to address controversy over his ties to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. But it backfired after critics called the interview a “car crash”. On the same weekend the other royal drama The Crown returned to TV screens after a two year break. In this episode we talk to the royal historian and advisor on the Netflix drama Robert Lacey, who has just published a book to go alongside the series. He tells us about Prince Andrew’s relationship with the Queen and how this all might play out on TV in the future. With Republicans in control of Washington, many suspect that conservatism is on the ascent. Others are wondering what conservatism even means in 2016. In which version of conservatism does President-Elect Donald J. Trump believe? How would Trump answer the question that David Brooks posed to Barack Obama about Edmund Burke before he became president? Robert Lacey's new book, Pragmatic Conservatism: Edmund Burke and His American Heirs (Palgrave MacMillan, 2016), offers the start of an answer. Lacey is associate professor of political science at Iona College. He has previous written American Pragmatism and Democratic Faith. His new book argues for Burke as a pragmatist and more closely aligned with the current philosophy of many liberals than movement conservatives. In order to make this case, Lacey compares Burke to Walter Lippmann, Reinhold Niebuhr, and Peter Viereck, the American heirs. As Donald Trump ascends to the presidency, Lacey's book should be read to understand whether business pragmatism of the new president resembles the conservative pragmatism of Burke or something altogether different. NOW on PBS partners with best-selling author and journalist Robert Lacey to investigate the surprising success of Saudi Arabia's approach to dealing with terrorists and extremists -- without torture or water-boarding. Given extraordinary access to the Saudi Arabian Interior Ministry and its practices, Lacey visits terrorist rehabilitation camps that use "soft policing" tactics to be nice to the bad guys. In the program we see the Saudis providing a private jumbo jet to bring inmates home from Guantanamo Bay, giving them a hero's welcome, then sending them to a converted holiday resort for re-education. Then, the men are set free. Is this rehab program working, and can we trust the Saudis to protect themselves -- and us -- against Islamic extremism in the future? Watch this NOW on PBS report for a perspective on terrorism you've never seen before.
