Ross argues that cases taken on by Garden Court lawyers raise questions of impartiality. The claims about Meghan Markle having a "meltdown" after a reported difficult interview have sparked significant controversy, particularly among royal commentators. Angela Levin, a well-known royal biographer, and broadcaster Dan Wootton discussed the incident, suggesting that Meghan was extremely upset during the interview with CBS's Jane Pauley. Levin alleged that Meghan was "screaming" at producers and appeared to be very annoyed by the questions posed to her, leading to tensions between her and Prince Harry.Levin further commented that during the interview, Meghan seemed frustrated and as though she "couldn't stand Harry speaking." This led to speculation about the state of their relationship, with Levin asserting that the couple might be very angry with each other, yet unable to separate due to their circumstances.Unlock an ad-free podcast experience with Caloroga Shark Media! Angela Levin told GB News,: "On the royal website, they removed the information that in 2016 Harry sent this very, very angry letter to the press. "It was to say that they were being racist towards Meghan and disturbing her. Now that was when they met."It was interesting in 2016, I went to see him and I was told by one of his aides, 'be very, very careful because he's just written a letter and he's terrified that Meghan's going to leave him'."That's what the issue was, he was terrified that Meghan was going to leave him. It was love at first sight from his point of view."Now that the letter is gone he's very cross because he felt it should be against the press."However it doesn't work like that because they've moved forward and they don't want to have this distancing themselves from Harry and Meghan."Get this and many other shows without commercials! Prince William is having a good week, getting lots of good reviews. On Wednesday the future King distributed honors at an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. This came just a day after he made a powerful appeal for peace in the Middle East.Notable figures such as "Game of Thrones" actress Emilia Clarke, Wetherspoons founder Sir Tim Martin, and former chancellor Sir Sajid Javid were among those recognized by the Prince of Wales. Emilia, acclaimed for her role in "Game Of Thrones," and her mother, Jenny, recieved MBEs for their contributions through SameYou, a charity dedicated to aiding brain injury recovery. The charity holds personal significance for Clarke, who has survived two brain haemorrhages.Post-ceremony, Clarke shared her awe and gratitude, noting the unexpectedly enchanting experience of the event. She praised the Prince of Wales for his warmth and approachability, stating, "His Royal Highness William was just delightful and made us feel so comfortable."Jenny Clarke laudedWilliam's thorough understanding of SameYou and its mission, hinting at a playful moment where she almost invited the Prince to join the charity's board. Emilia humorously remarked, "I thought she was going to ask him to be on the board of trustees, but she didn't," to which her mother playfully responded, "I nearly did."William's solo appearance at the BAFTAs on Sunday night has drawn praise, with royal expert Angela Levin highlighting his potential as a future king. She told GB News, "The contrast between him and his own brother couldn't be more stark. Well, he's so dignified, he was appearing as if nothing was wrong. He didn't want to spoil it for other people.""He didn't want to look harassed or miserable or concerned, he wanted to be in that job. He's been principal since 2010, and he wanted to do what is expected of him, his shoes shone brilliantly.""He looked very smart. He was smiling and he was very respectable. And you think if he's an heir to the throne, that's absolutely brilliant. Particularly given the fact that his wife is still recuperating at home from a major operation and that his father has been diagnosed with cancer," Meanwhile:During Meghan's recent visit to Canada, the Duchess of Sussex displayed a stunning array of fashion, with her outfits totaling over £44,000 in value. In just the initial 12 hours of their trip, Meghan dazzled onlookers by donning outfits valued at £8,000.

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 7 My new puppy is doing great but I don't let him sleep in my room. Chandra started watching Blonde and it's not as bad as she expected. (Update: She finished and it's bad.) Roger Federer retired after playing his final match with Rafa Nadal and it was sadder than Chandra expected.  Royals: Minutes 7:00 to 30:00 Last week we had the Queen's funeral on Monday. We were surprised how long the public portion was and didn't expect the Windsor portion to be aired. Both Harry and Meghan were impeccable and regal at the many ceremonies despite everything that's been thrown at them. Harry stood out and the cameras kept finding him and Meghan. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the Queen. Kate and William seemed especially happy after the Queen died and Kate sure helped herself to the Queen's jewelry. When I die I want a quick funeral so people can go about their day. There are three new royal books out now. Valentine Low's book is Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Throne, that seems to have the most tea, Katie Nicholl has The New Royals and Angela Levin has Camilla From Outcast to Queen Consort. Valentine Low seems to know that his sources are racist.  In Valentine Low's book Meghan is blamed for the way she was treated by the palace staff. These talking points were pushed by the palace earlier to Robert Lacey for Battle of the Brothers. It goes far beyond victim blaming and proves that Meghan was downplaying the abuse she endured. Low gives a bunch of examples of the royal staff being incompetent and rude to Meghan while her reactions seem perfectly reasonable. At one point Meghan disagreed with the plans a female staff member had made and told her to change them. When the woman said it would be too hard, Meghan responded “Don't worry, If there was literally anyone else I could ask to do this, I would be asking them instead of you.” Meanwhile Charles sounds like an awful boss. He's gone through five secretaries in seven years and he calls his staff at all hours of the day, including on Christmas. His office is described as toxic and the staff are backstabbing. Nicholl's book has the detail that we've heard before that William can't forgive Harry and that William “always expected Harry would be his wingman.” She also writes that Charles is holding Archie and Lilibet's titles over the Sussexes' heads depending on what Harry reveals in his memoir. We got so many stories about how and why Meghan wasn't invited to Balmoral when the Queen took a turn for the worse. It was telling that instead of focusing on the Queen after her death the press was about the Sussexes and everything they were supposedly doing wrong. We heard that Meghan wasn't invited because Kate didn't come for whatever reason. We wish Meghan would come out and say how despicable the royal family is, but they've been showing that with their actions. Meanwhile there are all these stories about whether Harry and his family can make up. Charles is said to have hope that they can but Gayle King reported that there was no peace deal at the funeral. Harry's kids don't have titles and Harry and Meghan have been demoted on the Royal.uk website to the bottom. We don't think Harry will dish the dirt in his first memoir but hopefully he will in his future books. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about Charles. We talk about how Queen Margrethe of Denmark removed the royal stylings and titles from her grandchildren without telling them first. The Cambridges are sort-of stepping into their roles as Prince and Princess of Wales. They went to Wales, where William tried out his rudimentary Welsh. It was supposed to be a low key visit. It doesn't seem like they knew they were getting the Wales titles right away. Comments of the Week: Minutes 30:00 to end Chandra's comment of the week is from Light Purple on the story where Khloe Kardashian claimed she was engaged to Tristan Thompson last year. My comment of the week is from Lunchcoma on the post where Brad Pitt said that Emily Ratajkowski is hot. Thanks for listening and subscribing bitches!

118: Prince William's racist statement, Duchess Meghan sued by her grifter half sister, Ryan Coogler detained at bank

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 6:30 I saw King Richard and loved it. I want it to win Best Picture. I also saw CODA and Drive My Car. I liked CODA a lot and Drive My Car was deep but too long. Chandra saw Dune and thought it was really good. Oscar Isaac was especially hot in it. Royals: Minutes 6:30 to 20:00 William and Kate visited the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London, where William made the obviously racist statement that “For our generation, it's very alien to see this in Europe.” An initial article claimed that William said that Britons were more used to seeing conflict in Africa and Asia, however the reporter, Richard Palmer, took that part of his reporting back and said he “misheard” William. A less than 30 second video was released of the Cambridges from behind where the only thing you could hear was the direct quote in the article. The quote from William was still racist. It reminds us of the racist remarks from the press about the war in Ukraine. This isn't the first time Prince William has said racist things in public. In November of last year he made a conservation speech in which he called population growth in Africa “a huge challenge for conservationists,” and he said essentially the same thing in 2017. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Chandra thinks that William gets briefings but thinks that he knows better. We heard that Samantha Markle, Meghan's grifter half sister, is suing her for $75,000 for supposedly misrepresenting their childhood and their relationship in the Oprah interview. Samantha is claiming that it hurt the sales of her self published book. It's clearly a money grab and Meghan's lawyer issued an awesome statement. There was speculation that Meghan might be deposed for this, which is doubtful. Last week we talked about Dan Wootton's piece saying that Kate will be making appearances without William. The Daily Mail had another story saying that Kate is “more confident” and “relaxed” on trips without him. Royal commenter Angela Levin said that Kate devoted her life to making William happy and helping him feel “important and worthy” which is really true. We got a surprise photo of Prince Harry at a rodeo in Fort Worth, Texas over the weekend. It's unclear why he was there but Biden was also in Fort Worth at the same time. We can't figure out what Harry was doing in Texas though. Camilla Tominey wrote an article about how the Sussexes “are rarely seen in LA and certainly not in the Hollywood party scene” and that they don't even go to the awards shows. She seems mad that we haven't seen enough of them. There's speculation that they'll come visit the Queen in April.  There are some positive stories about the Sussexes. Royal commenter Tom Quinn said that Harry is madly in love with Meghan. Commenter Peter Hunt wrote in the Irish Times that the royals should have worked harder to accommodate Harry and Meghan. Ryan Coogler: Minutes 20:00 to 27:30 Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was handcuffed by cops and removed from a Bank of America in Atlanta in January when he tried to withdraw $12,000 from his own account. He wrote a letter to the teller on the withdrawal slip saying he wanted her to count the money somewhere else and be discreet. He also put his card and pin number in and gave his identification to the teller. The initial reporting by TMZ mischaracterized this and made it sound like he was suspicious. In the 911 call the teller admits that he gave her his identification but says it was from California and that her supervisor told her to call the police. It's ridiculous that Bank of America would do this to one of their customers. We had people in our comments trolling hard for Bank of America and claiming that they had insider information. It was very suspicious. Chandra remembers the story that Chris Rock would keep a camera in his car to document how many times he was stopped by police. I recommend getting a dash cam.  Comments of the Week: Minutes 27:30 to end Kaiser's comment of the week is from Luna17 on the post about Sweden's Princess Victoria & Daniel stepping out together following divorce rumors. My comment of the week is from Lena on the post for the trailer of Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas's film Deep Water. Thanks for listening bitches!

Be it resolved: Prince Charles is unfit to be King of England

He's been heir to the throne for 70 years, waiting to take over as King of Great Britain from the country's longest serving monarch, his mother, Queen Elizabeth. But as the Queen's advanced age and fragile health becomes ever more apparent, many in the UK are wondering whether Charles is the right man to take over the throne from his long-beloved and admired mother. The Prince's critics point to a sense of entitlement and dour personality unbecoming of a monarch. He lectures about the environment while flying in a private jet, is thin-skinned to criticism, and is forever tainted by his alleged treatment of Diana and the very ugly details that led to the breakdown of their marriage. And most importantly, his critics argue, a constitutional monarchy requires that the sovereign not interfere in politics, a role that Queen Elizabeth has embraced and perfected over her long reign. Charles, by contrast, has used his position to express his views and influence both popular and ministerial opinion. The Prince's allies insist that he is the right man for the job – he will bring a more modern, European, and tolerant sensibility to a country that must adapt to a new world. His lifelong commitment to protecting the environment and raising awareness about climate change – long before it was deemed fashionable - shows a strength of character sorely lacking in today's leaders.  And finally, as the longest serving heir to the British throne, he has long exhibited a keen sense of duty and commitment to the monarchy which has endeared him to his subjects and guarantees an easy transition when the time inevitably comes. Arguing for the  motion is Clive Irving, former editor of The Sunday Times and author of The Last Queen: Elizabeth II's Seventy Year Battle to Save the House of Windsor Arguing against the motion is Angela Levin, royal commentator and biographer, and author of Harry: Conversations with the Prince  QUOTES: CLIVE IRVING “Charles has lived in a highly privileged cocoon. William and Kate, on the other hand, fit and understand the real world in a way that Charles has never done” ANGELA LEVIN “We are living in a tumultuous world … we need security and straightforwardness. We need someone we can really trust. And I think that Prince Charles fits that role perfectly.” Sources:  GMA, CNN, 7News, The Royal Family Channel, Sky News The host of the Munk Debates is Rudyard Griffiths - @rudyardg.   Tweet your comments about this episode to @munkdebate or comment on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/munkdebates/ To sign up for a weekly email reminder for this podcast, send an email to podcast@munkdebates.com.   To support civil and substantive debate on the big questions of the day, consider becoming a Munk Member at https://munkdebates.com/membership Members receive access to our 10+ year library of great debates in HD video, a free Munk Debates book, newsletter and ticketing privileges at our live events. Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:00 We will have an episode out next week and we will be off on February 5th. We got a lot of snow and I was still stuck at home when we recorded. The site got an upgrade and it works for the most part but is taking some getting used to. Royals: Minutes 5:00 to 22:00 As Prince Andrew is getting more press for the Virginia Giuffre case, the British press is desperately trying to smear Prince Harry. They brought out this ridiculous complaint that Harry demanded police security when he visited the UK. After that Harry issued a statement saying that it's a risk for his family to come to the UK without police protection and that he offered to pay the British police. In his statement, Harry said his security was “compromised due to the absence of police protection” after the Diana statue unveiling. The Daily Mail then got quotes from a retired metropolitan police officer who complained that the police can't just be available for hire and that Harry can't offer to pay them, since they're the ones who decide which royals need security. Dan Wootten criticized Harry for wanting security for his family, as if he was being petulant and refusing to let his grandmother meet his children unless he got his way. The press was scrambling to react after Harry's statement and removed some of their coverage. We heard that Prince Charles invited the Sussexes to stay with him if they visited the UK. Then royal commentator Angela Levin chimed in to say that Meghan is the one keeping Harry from staying with Charles and reconciling with his family. That doesn't seem to be their dynamic at all. Last week we talked about the fact that Prince Andrew had his military affiliations and patronages stripped and that he will no longer use his HRH title. There are now sympathetic pieces about him in the press, about how sad he was when mummy took away his patronages, and how William thinks his “heart is in the right place.” Chandra thinks that Andrew was able to leverage his departure into getting money from the Queen. A new documentary aired on ITV in the UK called Ghislaine, Prince Andrew and the Paedophile. That documentary featured a former royal police officer who said Andrew kept 50-60 stuffed bears on his bed as an adult and that he would freak out if the chambermaids put the bears back in the wrong place. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about the royals. William and Kate went to the Foundling Museum together, which was Kate's first event in over a month. Meanwhile Harry and Meghan sent food trucks to the King center in Atlanta to provide free lunches to the volunteers on MLK day. Chandra remembers when William visited refugees and didn't bring anything for them. We wonder why Will and Kate don't copy the Sussexes' charity work. Kate has been blatantly copying Meghan's style though. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West: Minutes 22:00 to 26:00 Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's divorce is not completed yet, and Kim is trying to enforce their custody agreement. Kanye has been complaining bitterly in the press about the fact that he can't come and go from Kim's house and has to adhere to the terms of his custody agreement. He bought the house across the street from her a few weeks ago and now he's complaining when she's enforcing boundaries. He admitted that he sent his cousins over to threaten Kim after Kim's security stopped him from entering her home. He's obviously trying to manipulate and control her. I play a segment from Zoom where we talk about this. Comments of the week: Minutes 26:00 to end My comment of the week is from Colby on the post about Meghan Fox's allegedly painful engagement ring. Chandra's comment of the week is from Becks1 on the post about Lena Dunham forgiving herself for being racist.  Thanks for listening bitches!

Introduction: to minute 3 We'll be off the next two weeks and back on December 4th. Chandra has been watching Dexter: New Blood and likes it. Royals: Minutes 3:00 to 23:15 Duchess Meghan did a talk with the New York Times book summit with Mellody Hobson and conducted by Andrew Ross Sorkin. Meghan was so prepared with facts and clear points. I play a segment from that where Meghan talks about the Mail on Sunday appealing the ruling in her favor. Jason Knauf gave Meghan's emails to the Daily Mail revealing that she wrote the letter to her father anticipating that he might leak it. She was just protecting herself and this was smart. He also released emails showing that she authorized him to give briefing points on her behalf to Omid Scobie and Caroline Durand for the biography Finding Freedom. This has nothing to do with the case, which is about the copyright of the letter to her father. Prince Harry did the re:Wired summit. He talked about misinformation online and creating change in social media platforms. He also called the term “Megxit” misogynist. He referenced the Bot Sentinel report we discussed. We talk about whether Twitter or Instagram is more toxic. Here's a link to the post I mentioned on Instagram which went mildly viral. This week we got another report from Bot Sentinel that showed all the royal reporters who interacted with the hate accounts. Angela Levin was the top one, as we talked about two weeks ago, and Richard Eden, Richard Fitzwilliams and Richard Palmer were the other main ones. Harry and Meghan attended the Salute to Freedom Gala where Harry gave out Intrepid Valor Awards. Meghan wore a red Carolina Hererra taffeta gown that we have mixed feelings about. Duchess Kate did one event this week after her vacation and her events with William at the climate change summit. She went to a photography exhibit at the Imperial War Museum. Chandra wonders why we haven't seen Kate in so long. I mention the ridiculous story about Biden allegedly farting in front of Camilla. According to reports Camilla has been talking about it to everyone. I play a segment from Zoom where we talked about this. Chandra thinks that someone in Charles' office leaked that story, particularly after we heard that Camila was trying to have one of Charles' staffmembers fired. We sympathize with Biden because everyone gets gassy sometimes. Antivaxxers: Minutes 23:15 to 31 Aaron Rodgers is still not suspended by the NFL or the Packers despite lying about being vaccinated and catching covid. He initially defended himself and claimed a woke mob was after him and that he did his research by talking to Joe Rogan and taking horse dewormer. Then a source told People he was being crucified and that we should respect his choice for his body as an athlete. He finally did an interview where he half apologized and took full responsibility but doubled down on everything he said before. Matthew McConaughey also revealed that he's against mandating covid vaccines for children and seemed to suggest that his kids are not vaccinated. Then when he got called out for it he said he was misrepresented, that he's not against vaccines for children he's just against mandates for 5 to 11 year-olds and that his son Levi, 13, is vaccinated against covid. We hope he doesn't run for governor of Texas. Emilio Estevez got fired by the Mighty Ducks Disney series for not getting vaccinated and then issued a wordy statement saying he's not antivax and that he had long covid. He never said he got vaccinated though! General Hospital's Ingo Rademacher is so much worse. He's one of those “medical freedom” nutjobs. He got fired after 25 years on that show for refusing to get vaccinated. Chandra wonders what happened to Doutzen Kroes, the Dutch model who revealed she's antivax. I go on a tangent about being disappointed in Dakota Johnson for this interview. Comments of the Week: Minutes 31:00 to end My comment of the week is from Mia4s on the post about Paul Rudd being named the Sexiest Man Alive. Chandra's comment of the week is from Tiffany on the post about Ivy Getty's excessive wedding. Thanks for listening bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 1:45 We're excited for our 100th episode! We've been on since January 15, 2019 and have put out podcasts 74% of the time. We're proud!  Royals: Minutes 1:45 to 18:15 Prince Andrew is at Balmoral. The Queen's lawyers are trying to avoid negative coverage of Andrew by banning outlets from publishing photos. They sent out letters “warning the publications against publishing pictures of the royal family or their guests at Balmoral the same day that Andrew arrived there.” This story validates the Sussexes' claims that the royals could have protected them from the press if they wanted. Chandra thinks the Queen's staff are trying to protect her. We wonder what the Queen knows. Chandra remembers the story about how the Queen took Andrew's word that his BBC interview went well. This week the Sussexes issued statements on their Archewell site. They talked about the Afghanistan withdrawal, the crisis in Haiti and the ongoing pandemic. Many of the royal reporters latched onto the part of their statement that said they were speechless. It was clear what they meant in context, but of course they're being nitpicked. They included links to the charities they're working with which are addressing these issues. You can tell that Harry, a veteran of Afghanistan, has been speaking to his veteran friends. He also issued a statement about Afghanistan through the Invictus Games. Angela Levin accused the Sussexes of accepting money on behalf of Archewell when in fact they told people to donate directly to the charities. Kate and William's charity, the Royal Foundation, is the one that accepts donations and then parcels it out to charities. It's unclear how effective this is considering that at least two of their patronages have closed for lack of funds. Harry and Meghan are also covering People Magazine, which has a new interview with Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie. He's promoting the paperback release of FF on August 31s, which has a new epilogue. Omid said the Sussexes are entering an “era of visibility” and that they're in a healthier place and thriving. We can see that too. They previously announced that they're taking five months paternity and maternity leave. They should be off until November, but they've already done so much. Chandra thinks they'll be making announcements and launching things in the fall. Chandra remembers when Kim Kardashian was pregnant and launching projects. In the epilogue to Finding Freedom, there's a section quoting a source about how Harry and Meghan felt about the royal response to the Oprah interview. It references the Queen's “recollections may vary” statement and says that the royal family isn't taking accountability. The British reporters are claiming that Harry and Meghan “attacked” the Queen and are “reigniting a rift.” The Daily Beast is reporting that lawyers for the Sussexes “have written to at least one major British newspaper saying that the claims are false and inaccurate.” Scobie made it clear that those quotes were from a source and were not directly attributed to Harry and Meghan. The British press seems to be trying to drive a wedge between Scobie and The Sussexes. Chandra mentions that the Sussexes are highlighting how little the royals are doing. They haven't issued a simple statement about the crisis in Haiti. The Crown: Minutes 18:15 to 25:30 We got the first photos from season five of The Crown featuring Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, Dominic West as Prince Charles and Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth. Also Jonathan Pryce is playing Prince Philip, Natascha McElhone is Penny Knatchbull, and Jonny Lee Miller is John Major. The Crown is also going to feature Prince Philip's relationship with his mistress, Penny Knatchbull, who was back in the press recently because she was at his funeral. Penny is 32 years younger than Prince Philip, she lived with him at Wood Farm and they had a relationship for decades. Penny was one of many mistresses and would often accompany Prince Philip and The Queen to events. I ask why Philip hated Fergie and Chandra says Fergie was tacky and indiscreet. I play a segment from Zoom where Susan, Sara, Karen, Lisa and Amber talk about the casting. We don't think Dominic West looks anything like Charles. Chandra found Gillian Anderson hit or miss at playing Thatcher last season but says her body work was excellent. Comments of the Week: Minutes 25:30 to end My comment of the week is from Duchess L on the story about Terry Crews saying you don't need to shower if you don't sweat. Chandra's comment of the week is from Sandy on tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas saying he wouldn't get vaccinated until it was mandatory. Thanks for listening bitches!

Introduction: Minutes 0 to 5:45 Our next podcast will be released on Saturday morning, June 19th instead of Sunday morning as usual. After that we're taking two weeks off. I've been bingeing the show 911 and I love how ridiculous and cheesy it is. Chandra has been watching The French Open and Wimbledon is coming soon.  Royals: Minutes 5:45 to 26:45 Just last week we were wondering when Meghan would have her baby. The Sussexes actually announced last Sunday that they welcomed daughter Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor on Friday. Their statement revealed the origin of Lili's name. About an hour and a half after the Sussexes' announcement, Clarence House and Kensington Palace issued congratulations. There was so much controversy whether the Queen learned about the baby's birth ahead of the press and whether Harry and Meghan were given permission to use her childhood nickname for the baby. An unnamed palace source who spoke to the BBC disputed that Harry asked The Queen about the name. However the Sussexes spokesperson told The BBC that they got permission from The Queen to use her nickname as the baby's name. It became a massive story which baffles us. The Sussexes were trying to be sweet and honor the Queen. I play a segment from Zoom where we wonder why The Queen didn't set the record straight about the name. The aides have put the Queen in an impossible position, when all they had to do is wish the baby health and happiness. The Daily Mail made the point that the BBC was right to report it as they did because they had good sources. Meanwhile we got some very weird stories about how Lili was going to bring the royal family together. It was about trying to get the Sussexes to bring Lili to the UK so the royal press has stories. Richard Kay wrote that Lily could help Prince George secure the throne, which is ridiculous. Angela Levin wrote an oped for the Daily Telegraph saying that “Lilibet could yet prove herself to be a Band-Aid baby” for the royal family. While Levin may have meant that Lili would help heal rifts, a “band aid baby” is a baby meant to heal a relationship, and Levin was being shady. We're floored at how ridiculous the press is being about the baby's name. Chandra can't predict what the royal press will latch onto. It looks like we're seeing the decline of the royal family behind the scenes. Duchess Meghan's children's book, The Bench, has come out and it's already a bestseller. I enjoyed reading it and think it's the kind of book you wouldn't mind reading over and over again. The negative reviews from the British press were gleeful and rude. I think it's cool that the book came out the week Meghan gave birth. Chandra says it was timed for Father's Day, which makes sense. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez: Minutes 26:45 to 31 Jennifer Lopez is planning to move back to LA to be closer to Ben Affleck. We wonder how her 13-year-old twins feel about that and if they're ok with changing schools. Chandra thinks the kids might be ok with starting high school somewhere new. Marc Anthony put his Miami mansion on the market so he's probably fine with this. We hope Ben and J.Lo last for a while. Comments of the week: Minutes 31 to end My comment of the week is from Inge on the post about Countess Sophie saying that people don't know Oprah outside of “chat shows.” Chandra's comment of the week is from Gobo on the post about William and Kate being sent to spend more time in Scotland. Buckingham Palace said Tuesday that allegations of racism made earlier this week by Prince Harry and Meghan were "concerning" and would be addressed privately by the royal family. The comments, made in a statement issued on behalf Queen Elizabeth II, are the first from the palace since the two-hour television interview with Meghan and Harry rocked the royal family. Meghan, who is biracial, said the palace had failed to help her when she had suicidal thoughts and that an unidentified member of the royal family had raised "concerns" about the color of her baby's skin when she was pregnant with her son, Archie."The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan," the palace said. "The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.''The interview, conducted by Oprah Winfrey and which aired Sunday night in the U.S. and a day later in Britain, has divided people around the world. While many say the allegations demonstrate the need for change inside a palace that hasn't kept pace with the #MeToo and Black Lives Matter movements, others have criticized Harry and Meghan for dropping their bombshell while Harry's 99-year-old grandfather, Prince Philip, remains hospitalized in London after a heart procedure.Anna Whitelock, a professor of history and director of the Centre for the Study of Modern Monarchy at Royal Holloway, University of London, said the palace's brief message was an effort to quiet the controversy."It's not very long, but it's very precise and it has a clear intent — and that is to close this down as a family matter; to make clear that this is clearly a family in crisis, that there's family issues to sort out, but to separate this very clearly from any criticism or discussion about the institution of monarchy itself," she told The Associated Press. "And I think time will tell whether that's a distinction that the public will accept."While the palace often tries to stay above controversy by remaining silent and riding out the storm, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's charges proved so damaging that the family was forced to respond. The response was likely delayed by the queen's struggle to balance her sometimes-conflicting roles as monarch and grandmother, said Angela Levin, author of "Harry, a Biography of a Prince," before the statement was released. During past crises, the 94-year-old monarch has usually come down on the side of the 1,000-year-old institution she has led since 1952."The queen has a motto: Never complain, never explain," Levin told the AP. "And she's stuck with this for decades. But I think in this climate and 2021, everything goes everywhere. There's so much social media that in this instance, she really can't not say anything."Harry and Meghan married in May 2018 in a ceremony at Windsor Castle that ended with a ride around the town in a horse-drawn carriage. In the early days of their marriage, the couple were seen as the fresh young face of the monarchy for an increasingly multicultural nation. But the story quickly turned sour. The couple stepped away from royal duties last year and moved to California, saying they wanted to escape racist coverage and unwanted intrusions on their privacy by the British media.During the interview, Meghan described feeling so isolated and miserable inside the royal family that she had suicidal thoughts, yet when she asked for mental health assistance from the palace's human resources staff, she was told they couldn't help because she wasn't a paid employee. She also said Harry told her there were "concerns and conversations" about how dark Archie's skin would be.Winfrey later said Harry told her off camera that the family member wasn't Queen Elizabeth II or Prince Philip, sparking a flurry of speculation about who it could be.Harry also revealed that the stres...
