Consider what you want to make space for in your life in this 6-minute contemplation guided by Alex Elle. Find a quiet place, settle your body, and reflect on where you want more clarity or ease in your life. Breathe deeply, filling your belly on each inhale and softening your body on each exhale. Notice the fears, doubts, or stresses you're carrying and gently commit to letting them go. Pick one phrase from the meditation that speaks to you most deeply (e.g., In the presence of chaos, I will make space for inner peace). Write it down on a sticky note and place it somewhere visible to keep the intention alive throughout your day. Close your practice by offering yourself grace, trusting that making space takes time and patience. Embrace the beauty of your accent in this self-compassion meditation that guides you in a reflection of your history, heritage, and connection to your ancestors. How To Do This Practice: Find a Comfortable Position: Sit in a relaxed yet alert posture, either on a cushion or chair. Gently lower your gaze or close your eyes if that feels comfortable. Focus on Your Breath: Take a deep breath in and slowly exhale. Allow yourself to transition from your daily activities into this moment of reflection. Acknowledge Your Accent: Bring awareness to the way you speak, recognizing that your voice carries your history, culture, and personal journey. Repeat Self-Compassion Phrases: Silently or aloud, repeat affirmations such as, “my accent makes me unique,” “my accent carries my story,” “my accent connects me to my ancestors.” Place a Hand on Your Heart: If it feels right, gently place a hand on your heart, offering yourself warmth and kindness as you continue to breathe deeply. Close with Gratitude: Take a final deep breath, sending appreciation to yourself, your ancestors, and the uniqueness of your voice before gently opening your eyes. Most women in mid-life have a common rebuttal that keeps them from taking the next step when it comes to their fitness and health journey. The pressure that women put on themselves or the expectation that they believe is there to be perfect and execute their workouts without any interruption could be limiting their ability to reach their goals. Key Takeaways If You Want to Show Up For Yourself, You Should: Stop focusing on the perfection monster mindset Focus on ways you can change your behavior through mindset changes Be kind and gracious to yourself and your workout routine Consistency is Key I want you to ask yourself, what does consistency look like to you? How would it feel to reframe how you think about your workouts and put less pressure on yourself to never miss a day or take a vacation? Fitness and health do not need to be another stressor in your life. I want you to challenge yourself to shift the way you think about your health and be curious about how you can reframe the way you think about your workouts. When it comes to working out, perfection is not the goal, but showing up for yourself is. The Science of Behavior Change If you have been holding back from working with a coach because you are unsure if you can commit 100%, I am here to tell you, that you don't need to. The all-or-nothing mentality that we have when it comes to our fitness is unnecessary, and I am here to tell you that you still get a benefit even if you can't do 10 out of the 10 workouts you want. Showing up for yourself and your health is the first step, and making it work for you and your lifestyle is the key to success. You don't need to force yourself to do something that won't work for you, and you also don't need to do something that doesn't fit your life schedule. Doing what works for you in your here-and-now body is the best thing you can do, period. Are you ready to start showing up for yourself? Share your thoughts with me in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode Understanding the stages of change and how to approach a new idea (3:40) Why you should start a strength training program even if you might not be perfect at it (7:09) What is endowed progress effect, and how can it help you make behavior changes (16:10) How to avoid the perfection monster through mindset shifts (22:50) Quotes “I know there is going to be at least one person listening to this podcast episode, in whatever space and time you find it, who is mulling over the question, ‘Should I get a lifting program?'.” (3:07) “Ageing is not just this linear gentle slope down in terms of the change in function, but rather, there are these punctuated times in our lives, if we are lucky enough to make it to these ages, where there are some changes going on.” (8:34) “I trust that the women I work with, who are mostly in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, are doing their damn best on any given day.” (21:41) “Consistency is more important than perfection. "Setting and maintaining boundaries is essential for preserving energy and well-being, enhancing self-worth and self-respect, and improving relationships." ~Tami Imlay Happy podcast day! I'm so excited to be here with you today. I'm doing something a little different. I'm going to air a conversation, a training session I did with my Divine Destiny: Living a Purpose Aligned Life Facebook community. One theme we've been discussing this past week is showing up for yourself. We've delved into creating healthy boundaries, understanding their purpose, and why we need them. To show up for others, we first need to show up for ourselves. This isn't selfish; it's essential. We've discussed core values and how showing up for ourselves allows us to pour from a full cup instead of an empty one. So, listen in! Today, we are getting a sneak peek into day 4 of our Show Up For Yourself theme. We're going to talk about boundaries, maintaining them, and what it has to do with showing up for yourself. This week's group theme has been showing up for ourselves and living a purpose-aligned life. We want to make an impact, feel fulfilled, and not waste time and energy on things that don't matter. When we show up for ourselves, we can then show up for our people—our community, churches, PTA, neighbors, friends, and family. But it all starts with showing up for ourselves. Pouring out for everyone but ourselves makes us feel misaligned, overwhelmed, scattered and stuck. We've talked about core values, pivoting, and maintaining our word to ourselves. Today, we're focusing on boundaries—why maintaining healthy ones is showing up for yourself, how it's the opposite of being selfish, and how to discover areas in your life that need boundaries. Boundaries don't last forever; they shift as seasons do. Today, let's dive in and talk about why maintaining healthy boundaries is showing up for yourself. Here are three reasons why: 1. Preservation of Energy and Well-being If we try to be everything to everyone, we're actually nothing to no one. We're exhausted and don't have the energy to do what really matters. Understanding our core values makes it easier to set boundaries, freeing us to have the life we want. Healthy boundaries protect your time, resources, gifts, and emotional well-being, helping you live your purpose. 2. Enhanced Self-worth and Self-respect When we respect ourselves, we're able to show up for ourselves. We see the value we bring, and when we're at our best, we can bring our best. Self-respect makes it easy to say no to things that don't align with our values. For example, I once had to decline airing a podcast interview because the guest's values didn't align with mine. This self-respect and confidence help protect the values that my brand holds. 3. Improved Relationships Setting boundaries actually improves relationships by creating clear expectations and mutual agreements, leading to healthier, deeper connections. People know what you stand for, can trust you, and value the relationships more. Ready to take action? Book a Call with Me! Set a time on your calendar right before our call to take a moment and breathe. This is the only preparation you'll need. It's that easy! Join the call and allow your heart to be heard and seen. Key Takeaways: Importance of Boundaries: Boundaries help in prioritizing self-care and showing up effectively for oneself and others. They are vital for maintaining energy and overall well-being. Healthy boundaries enhance self-worth and self-respect. They contribute to better and more fulfilling relationships. Identifying the Need for Boundaries: Assess sources of stress in your life. Pay attention to your feelings and reactions. Evaluate how you allocate your time and energy. Practical Tips for Setting Boundaries: Identify your needs and create boundaries around them. Give yourself permission to pivot and make necessary changes in alignment with your purpose. Upcoming Challenge: Focus on giving yourself permission to pivot and make necessary changes to align with your purpose. Action Steps: Reflect on areas in your life where boundaries are needed. Take action by setting and maintaining those boundaries to live a purpose-aligned and fulfilling life. Journal Question: Reflect on an area in your life where you feel stressed or overwhelmed. What boundaries can you set to preserve your energy and well-being, enhance your self-worth and self-respect, and improve your relationships? How can you give yourself permission to pivot and make necessary changes to align with your purpose? Want to make a change? Want to pivot? Connect with Tami today! Mental Health Month is upon us and we're in the midst of our Show Up For Yourself campaign which focuses on finding 20 minutes a day to care for things that relate to your heart, mind, body, and community. This can look like gentle movement, calling a friend, journaling, and deep breathing. While we're putting an emphasis on small, accessible, and tangible ways that we can all show up for ourselves, there's obviously a bigger avenue for us, if we have the resources, to tend to our mental well-being: Therapy. So that's what we're talking about today. But this isn't just about the rather cliche vision we all have when we think about therapy. A shrink sitting upright in a chair taking notes across from their patient who's sharing their thoughts. Of course, there's great value to talk therapy, but there are more options. And that's a good thing because therapy is not one-size-fits-all. We all have varying experiences, varying abilities, and varying needs, so naturally the therapy that suits us best might look different than what we are familiar with and what TV shows and films project out into the world. In today's episode, we have the honor of exploring alternative therapy options, like Art Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy in particular, with the guidance of the wonderful and creative Alyse Ruriani. Alyse Ruriani (she/they) is a queer femme art therapist, licensed professional counselor, illustrator, and person with lived experience. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a Masters in Art Therapy and Counseling. Alyse's work aims to communicate information, provide tangible tools, and validate the human experience through engaging illustrations and designs. They live in a colorful apartment in Chicago with their black cat/co-therapist Boo. When Alyse is not working, you can likely find her swimming in some body of water, making art with friends, or hyper fixating on some new ideas. Burnout. You've probably heard the term over the course of the last few years in regard to work, the pandemic, and the general state of the world. According to Psychology Today, burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and often physical exhaustion brought on by prolonged or repeated stress. Though it's most often caused by things at work, it can also appear in other areas of life, such as parenting, caretaking, or romantic relationships. At the core of burnout, is stress. Stress can manifest itself in many different ways and it does a number on the body, mind, and soul when it's not acknowledged and addressed. In today's episode, we talk about how to recognize burnout and how to treat it with the help of two people who are rather familiar with it: Sheena Grosshans who is a parent and the spouse of an educator, and Jen Sutton, a long-time teacher. Sheena works as TWLOHA's Director of Key Relationships and is a Brooklyn, NY native who found both her love and home in the South. She is a lifelong creative and professionally compassionate but spends most of her days being bossed around by her two-year-old daughter. She also shares an eight-year-old son with her husband, a third-generation educator who currently teaches at a middle school in Florida. Our second guest, Jen, is in her 13th year as a high school science teacher. This year, in particular, she has even added a few middle school classes to her agenda. And one of her coworkers is actually her husband, who teaches at the same school. But Jen is much more than just a teacher—she is passionate about mental health and advocating for both educators and students alike, she has a corgi named Millie and a cat named Bev, and she's a really big fan of the show Ted Lasso (her favorite character is Mae). “There is something incredibly powerful that happens when you keep showing up for yourself. And you don't have to do it perfectly (heck no!). Show up, embrace the mess, and honor the process, because there is so much joy that's found in showing up for yourself.”Friends!! I am so excited for this 100th episode and to celebrate it here with you!Today I'm sharing how I embraced imperfect action when I started the podcast two years ago, how I continue to choose being brave over perfect still today, and how the podcast has kept me committed to my own personal growth journey. Through this journey, I've learned to show up, do what feels hard and outside my current comfort zone, and eventually to feel an increased sense of self-worth and self-love that's cultivated through this process. Milestones like this take time and discipline to achieve, and it's done one step at a time. And over time, this consistency starts to compound. Today I want to encourage you to show up for yourself, do the thing that's been on your heart, or set a goal that makes you just a little bit nervous. And remember, friend, keep showing up and keep learning because there is no failure. It's all a fail-forward and another step in the learning process. So, if you are ready to embrace the very best version of yourself, press play and let's grow together.Articles referenced:How to be Proud of Yourself (and Why It's So Important)ResourcesFull Show NotesLove Letter Sign-UpJoin The LBD Collective Health Coaching with Kate @mskatehouse Connect with Liz Chapman - Podcast ManagerWebsite@liz_chapman_podcastmanager

Sometimes we get caught up in life. After a while choosing 30 mins on social media is easier than working on our health, business, relationships, goals/dreams or fill in the blank. How do we all have the same 24 hours, but choose to use it differently? With that being said I challenge you this November to reassess your values and SHOW UP FOR YOURSELF for 30 days. It is so easy to say that I value this or I value that, but in reality our actions do no match. November is a great time to get our feet wet to finish out strong in December in order to pave the way for an AMAZING 2021! Cause, friend scary to say but it is around the corner. It is up to us to know the wisdom within us, for this is something no one else can teach us. We must be our own guiding light. There is no competition with another. Any thoughts of competition come from the false self, and this belief lives in a place that holds the belief that you are not enough. If you are the belief that you are not enough, then you look at others and believe they are more than you, doing it better than you, more gifted and more talented. This leads to competition with them, but that competition is one in which you are against yourself. You see, there is nothing and no one better than you, and that is because there is only one you — one you with the very unique and special gifts that you came here to share. Be in abundance. There is more than enough for everyone. Everyone has the potential to tap into the abundance. When you do not feel worthy, you will fill your internal holes with external fillers, and doing so dulls your light. Some do this through the use of alcohol, drugs, food, TV, or social media, and in doing so, they become numb to their own truth. There is a false belief that touching your truth will be painful, and you hold this belief because you do not know the true self within. The true self lives inside your heart. This one is the truth of the who that you are. This one is protected from pain by limiting beliefs, and therefore, cannot easily be touched. All of your gifts wait for you to be ready to awaken, evolve, and become. Ready to begin to live, value, and cherish yourself. The true self inside of you is a beacon of light, much like a rudder designed to hold you steady in a storm. But, you must step up and become the captain of your ship. It is up to the you in the now to get back into the driver's seat of your life. To not be afraid of the pain--the pain of going through healing is not worse than the trauma you have already survived. Be the light that you are. Come on a journey of exploration and self-care, and let's find the hid- den treasures that are you, that reside within you. Let's awaken to your true potential and calling. – says Janet Philbin In this episode, Valeria Teles interviews Janet, the author of Show Up for Yourself: A Guide To Inner Growth And Awareness.
