Consider what you want to make space for in your life in this 6-minute contemplation guided by Alex Elle. Find a quiet place, settle your body, and reflect on where you want more clarity or ease in your life. Breathe deeply, filling your belly on each inhale and softening your body on each exhale. Notice the fears, doubts, or stresses you're carrying and gently commit to letting them go. Pick one phrase from the meditation that speaks to you most deeply (e.g., In the presence of chaos, I will make space for inner peace). Write it down on a sticky note and place it somewhere visible to keep the intention alive throughout your day. Close your practice by offering yourself grace, trusting that making space takes time and patience. In this deep conversation, two “happy" masters of meditation, Loch Kelly and author of Original Love, Henry Shukman, explore their similar and unique approaches to awakening. With delight and curiosity, they share some of their own initial awakening experience. They also discuss their process of discovering and unfolding and how they share it with students. To this end, they unpack and illuminate the contemplative art and science of Inquiry and Koans as ways to shift out of the chattering mind and into our already awake heart mind. Henry talks about his experience with Zen Koans and Loch shares his Mahamudra approach to inquiry. Loch calls this Glimpsing, and it emphasizes immediate experiential pointers which help practitioners directly realize their already awake nature. Henry and Loch also lean into questions around the importance of integrating ancient wisdom approaches with contemporary models of psychology and human development. Other key areas of their trans-traditional dialogue include recognizing ordinary experiences and pain as opportunities for awakening. They also talk about the role of personal loss in awakening and the role of personal storytelling in teaching. They both agree that awakening is the discovery of what Henry calls Original Love (instead of Original Sin) and what Loch calls Unconditional Love, which allows us to live from Awake Loving Flow.Mindful Glimpse The episode features Loch offering a guided practice called “Compassion Is Already Here.” These mindful glimpses serve as invaluable tools for experiencing ways to access the awake consciousness that is already here within all of us.You can now explore all of Loch Kelly's practices and teachings on the new Mindful Glimpses app, found at https://lochkelly.org/mindful-glimpses. This innovative meditation and wellness app offers daily micro-meditations, step-by-step programs, and simple-yet-advanced tools for awakening.Loch Kelly Bio Loch is the creator of the Mindful Glimpses app, and an award-winning author, psychotherapist, and non-dual meditation teacher. He is also known for his unique practical methods that support awakening as the next natural stage of human development. Backed by modern neuroscience and psychology, Loch introduces Effortless Mindfulness, which combines an ancient form of nondual meditation and IFS psychology that allows immediate access to our embodied awake nature which arises as our calm, clear, and compassionate healing capacity. When we feel cared for, our cortisol levels drop, we feel safe, and we handle stress better. Dacher leads a meditation to help us focus on the people who make us feel supported. How To Do This Practice: Get Comfortable: Find a quiet spot. Sit or stand in a relaxed position. Experience the physical sensations of love through this guided meditation that nurtures connection, relaxation, and emotional awareness. How To Do This Practice: Sit or lie down in a relaxed posture. Close your eyes or soften your gaze. Take a deep breath in, then slowly exhale. Notice the weight of your body and release any tension in your shoulders, jaw, or hands. Recall a time when you felt deeply loved and cared for—whether from a person, pet, or a meaningful experience. Instead of focusing on the memory itself, notice where love manifests in your body—warmth in your chest, a tingling in your hands, a soft smile, or gentle relaxation. With each inhale, visualize love spreading through your body like a warm light or soft energy, filling your heart, arms, and entire being. Allow yourself to fully experience this embodied sense of love, knowing it is always within you. When ready, bring awareness back to your surroundings, wiggle your fingers and toes, and take a final deep breath before opening your eyes. Set an intention to bring this felt sense of love into your interactions throughout the day. In his new book, Original Love, Zen meditation master, award winning author and poet, and renowned spiritual teacher Henry Shukman offers a tantalizing proposition. At any moment there is a powerful possibility available to us.A possibility of piercing the illusion of separateness,And experiencing a profound sense of connection. In these moments which are deemed by some as ‘awakening', it can seem almost as if a spell is broken. That we are waking up from a sort of dream. As we see, feel, and know (in our bones) that there is in fact no separation. That at some level everything and everyone are connected. Henry argues that these experiences can be the single most healing, positively life-transforming events that can happen to us. Well documented for centuries, across different wisdom traditions, and now explored through scientific inquiry,Experiences of waking up to our interconnected nature often lead to large positive shifts in our priorities. We tend to move from self-protection and self-promotion toward a natural flow of compassion and concern for others and the world. This boundless interconnected experience is what Henry calls Original Love. In today's conversation Henry and I will explore this possibility in depth,As we unpack what might lead us back to Original Love. Including practices we can bring into our lives, our work, and our relationships.Practices like :Letting goAllowing what's here to be here as it isLoosening the grip of control and learning to relax into uncertainty. And Henry will share some of his hard earned insight about meditation as a path toward greater wellbeing, connection, and awakening. I will simply say that this is one of the most insightful, interesting and wonderful conversations I've ever had the privilege of being a part of. Henry Shukman is a poet, writer and - more prominently in the last few decades - a zen Buddhist master. Henry runs the Mountain Cloud Zen Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He wrote his first book at the age of 19, subsequently publishing several award books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction. His work has been included in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Guardian, The Sunday Times and The London Review of Books, among others. He has taught meditation at Google, Harvard Business School, United World College and many more. His new app, The Way, is a fantastic tool for meditators of whatever amount of or lack of experience and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Likewise, his most recent book Original Love is a beautiful description of his approach to life and meditation. Today, Michael welcomes Henry Shukman. Henry is a poet, author, Zen master in the Sanbo Zen lineage, and is the Spiritual Director Emeritus of Mountain Cloud Zen Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His new book, “Original Love: The Four Inns on the Path of Awakening,” about his unique approach to the path of meditation and spiritual awakening, is out now. Henry also created “The Way,” a new, first-of-its-kind meditation app that offers a single, long-term path into the deep end of meditation. Highlights from their conversation include: -Henry's childhood growing up in a climate of secrecy then learning later that his parents were Cold War spies -How Zen meditation allowed Henry to transcend his pain, trauma, and depression and regularly access a profound sense of oneness and love -How awakenings from meditation don't always come as some “big cosmic phenomena,” but rather in small shifts that happen over time until you realize you've grown and healed -Henry's recent bicycle accident and concussion that made him focus more on his heart because “being in his head” literally hurt too much, and how staying open-hearted is the way to being whole-hearted -The powerful effect of community on healing; the main tenets of his new book, “Original Love” and the ‘Four Inns' of awakening; his highly-rated new meditation app, The Way; and a whole lot more! Next, Michael concludes with a brief guided meditation. Meet Henry Shukman, poet, author, and Zen master. We begin our conversation by exploring how Henry navigates his life, both inwardly and outwardly, with a deep commitment to mindfulness. Henry shares insights on being present in the world and how his various life paths often merge, guided by his body's inclination towards creativity, especially poetry. Starting from his early experiences, Henry recounts a story about a hobo named Speedy who taught him that a home isn't just four walls; the whole world can be your home if you take time to be still every day. This lesson has profoundly influenced Henry's approach to life and spirituality. Henry explains how each person can find their way in the world and how meditation is about coming home to oneself, especially in moments of overwhelm—a feeling most of us can relate to. He reminds us that there's no one-size-fits-all approach to meditation and finding one's deeper self. For those starting, Henry's app, The Way, offers a guided introduction to meditation, making it accessible amidst the overwhelming number of options available. Yoga is another path he suggests, emphasizing the importance of connecting with your body. Addressing the often-discouraging long path of spiritual growth, Henry shares the shifts he has experienced over the years and the journey he still sees ahead of him. It's about the process, not the end goal. He discusses this in his book, "Original Love." Henry also opens up about his concussion and difficult recovery, which helped him realize he was experiencing the world with more "heartfulness," turning his injury into a blessing. He explains why heartbreak, though dreaded by many, can be a valuable teacher. We conclude our conversation with a discussion of Henry's book, "Original Love," which serves as a manifesto, map, and manual for spirituality in the twenty-first century. This essential guide replaces the concept of original sin with original love as the true foundation of life. We know you will leave this conversation feeling rejuvenated and maybe even inspired to begin your journey of meditation if you've been interested but hesitant to start.Love the show? In this recording, Bentinho encourages listeners to reconsider their understanding of love and to reflect on its true origin. Love is not just a feeling or an action. Rather, it is the underlying eternal energy that exists everywhere, in everything. Love is the essential energy and presence of Awareness/Beingness. It is the energy born of the realization of Oneness, and it is also the foundation of every perception and manifestation.Bentinho explains that the first emanation to emerge from Awareness was Love. But this Love is not the “love” we experience in ordinary human relationships. This Love is Godlike, transcendent, and inclusive of all. It is powerful and not bound to human concepts and associations. The journey to understanding Original Love is infinite; letting go of human filters and assumptions can bring us closer to it._________Follow Bentinho on Social Media:InstagramFacebookYouTubeTwitterTikTok_________Subscribe to the Bentinho Massaro newsletter: bit.ly/3rhVNhs

Today, the podcast starts with a prayer from our guest, Glenn Aparicio Parry, PhD (Humanities); East-West Psychology MA (both from CIIS), and now adjunct faculty at CIIS. Glenn speaks about his time as a student at CIIS in the 1980's and shares ideas that have gone into his current EWP course Original Thinking: Land, Language, and Consciousness from East-West and Indigenous Perspectives. We discuss foundational cosmological, psychological and philosophical ideas from Glenn's trilogy of books Original Thinking, Original Politics, and he reads from his forthcoming book Original Love. Glenn states that western thought places origin in a point in time, as in the temporal event of the Big Bang, while North American Indigenous thought identifies origin as a place, the latter being the eco-psychological basis of Glenn's work. We discuss Glenn's idea that “originally all thoughts were prayers” and ask how in contemporary times we can reconnect with the cosmogenesis of our culture as an unfolding spiritual journey of interconnectedness. The conversation goes deep, asking what our collective prayers are in contemporary times, grappling with how to overcome the shadow of modernity and colonialism, and begins to formulate holistic Indigenous and ecological models of how to create new future potentials. Glenn Aparicio Parry, PhD, of Basque, Aragon Spanish, and Jewish descent, is an educator, ecopsychologist, and two-time Nautilus award winning author of Original Politics: Making America Sacred Again (SelectBooks, 2020) and Original Thinking: A Radical Revisioning of Time, Humanity, and Nature (North Atlantic Press, 2015) and is currently writing Original Love, the third book in the trilogy. The founder and past president of the SEED Institute, Parry is currently an adjunct faculty member of the California Institute of Integral Studies, the president of the think tank: Circle for Original Thinking www.originalthinking.us and the host of the Circle for Original Thinking podcast. Parry organized and participated in the groundbreaking Language of Spirit Conferences from 1999 – 2011 that brought together Native and Western scientists in dialogue, moderated by Leroy Little Bear. Parry now regularly moderates dialogues for various organizations and has appeared in several documentaries, including SEEDing Change: A Retrospective of the Language of Spirit Dialogues and Journeying to Turtle Island, a biographic film exploring David Peat's life and participation in the dialogue circles by Spanish filmmaker Miryam Servet. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking and fly fishing. He writes from a fairly remote location in northern New Mexico, where he lives amid wild horses, coyote and mountain lion with his wife Tomoko, dog Momo, and cat Cappuccino. As a boy in Oxford, England, Henry Shukman found refuge from chronic eczema through poetry and being in nature. But the beauty and clarity he found there was fleeting. A series of visits with a mysterious old family friend helped him to understand that experiencing beauty — and its extraordinary gifts — didn't have to be isolated or chance encounters. It could become a guiding principle of his life. Through listening deeply, she shows him how to practice this.Listen to David Whyte's episode of Meditative Story, "We become the places we love": http://listen.meditativestory.com/DavidWhyte_WWHenry Shukman is a Zen Master in the Sanbo Zen lineage and is the Spiritual Director at Mountain Cloud Zen Center, and co-director of the Rio Grande Mindfulness Institute. Qu'ils sont beaux les pieds, "How Beautiful are the Feet" (Isaiah 52:7; Romans 10:15) is my love song to my Jenny this Valentine's Day! My love has only grown exponentially since we married. My one earthly goal is to spend every available second with her! Yeats' poem "He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven" was my foundational poetic influence in writing this piece, but there were many, many more, some of which I trace out in this episode. I tried to make it clear last week that the cry, “We are Harvest,” which also serves as the title of the series we're currently in, is not a boast but an aspiration. It's what we want to do and be. That is never truer than it is with this Sunday's second instalment of the series, “We love God.” What a thing to declare given our proneness to fail in this simplest of expressions. We have so many reasons to love God and yet find it to be so difficult. This is true for us as individuals and as a church. In this message, we'll look at two key passages—Matthew 22:34-38 and 1 John 4:16-19—that speak to not only our love for God but, more importantly, his love for us which makes our love for him possible. Series: We Are Harvest Message: We love God Text: Matthew 22:34-38; 1 John 4:16-19 Pastor Todd Dugard Harvest Bible Chapel January 23, 2022 John 13:35 We love God… …with all that we are (Matt 22:37) The Great Commandment Deuteronomy 6:5 - heart, soul, might Matthew 22:37 - heart, soul, mind Mark 12:30 - heart, soul, mind, strength Luke 10:27a - heart, soul, strength, mind The piling up of the terms “heart,” “soul,” and “mind” is just a way of saying “with your whole being” and is not intended to designate the component parts of human nature. J. A. Brooks …obeying the great commandment (Matt 22:36, 38) It does not take much of a man to be a believer, but it takes all there is of him!. Kent Hughes 1 John 5:3 …understanding that he is love (1 Jn 4:16) Romans 5:8 1 Corinthians 13 Original: Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13 Alternate: GOD is patient and kind; GOD does not envy or boast; GOD is not arrogant or rude. GOD does not insist on his own way; GOD is not irritable or resentful; GOD does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. GOD bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. …and because he first loved us (1 John 4:19) 1 Corinthians 13 Alternate #2: Harvest is patient and kind; Harvest does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. Harvest does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; Harvest does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Harvest bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

In this episode, Laura reminds us that to be authentic means to mirror the original. Therefore, authentic love must imitate Original Love, which is God. To give love authentically in any of our own relationships requires that we first come to know Love Himself and let Him love us. Come, sit at the Bridegroom's feet and experience the true love He has for you.
Eros (AKA Cupid) and Psyche are one of the most famous couples from Greek Mythology. Relive the amazing love story of Eros the God of Love and Psyche the most beautiful woman on earth. If Christ appeared to you out of nowhere, what would you do? In this episode, I interview Nadia Khalil Bradley. Nadia began her journey in a tight-knit Palestinian-American community located in a suburb of Chicago. A devout Muslim, she followed the traditions upheld in the community and within the culture, having very little knowledge of Christ. She had been writing to God for years, until one day, he answered her. In 2002, while still a Muslim, Nadia had a vision of Christ that literally changed her life forever. Since then, she has been sharing her experiences and insights through her writing (3 books so far) and podcast show (Christisms). Her books include Little Wing, Origins of Truth, and her latest, Original Love. IN THIS EPISODE, NADIA ANSWERS THE FOLLOWING: • What did Christ look like? Was he a ghostly figure? Floating in mid-air? • What were you feeling at that moment when you saw Christ face to face? • How has this experience changed your life? • What did Christ sound like? Was it a voice in your head? A "knowing"? Audible? • So how do you know it's Christ you're hearing and not just your ego? • Why did Christ reveal himself to you this way? Are you special? • What is the main message Christ came to bring you? • What were some of the questions Christ asked you? • Do you still hear Christ today the same way you heard him the first time? • Do you still see Christ in a physical form? • When you pray, do you make a distinction between God and Christ? • Who is Christ to you? God? A messenger? • Do you still consider yourself a Muslim? Or did you become a Christian? • How do you know there is no hell? • How do you handle the skeptics? • Some Christians say your experience was demonic. What is your response? • Has this experience affected your relationships with friends and family? • What are some truths you've learned throughout the years?
