No we aren't talking about the Stephen Speilberg movie about dinosaurs. We are back from our long hiatus. What have you been up to? A lot of things have changed and most things stayed right where we left them. Speaking of being back. We are a bit rusty. The audio was accidently recorded to the wrong mic. When West Side Story hit theaters in 1961, it was a commercial and critical success, with Rita Moreno becoming the first Puerto Rican actor to win an Oscar for her role as Anita. This urban take on Romeo and Juliet created by four Jewish gay artists as a cautionary tale about the hate destroying forbidden love resonated with audiences worldwide. The musical is nowadays considered a classic, but it's also been criticised for its portrayal of Puerto Ricans and for casting white actors in brown-face makeup instead of actual Latinx performers.60 years later, West Side Story is back, this time directed by Stephen Speilberg with new lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, a new book by Tony Kushner and Executive Produced by and starring Rita Moreno in a new role as the motherly Valentina. The remake is being celebrated for its more positive portrayal of minorities, but some folks are still stung by the racist legacy of the original work and would rather see new films created for and by Puerto Rican people.Today we take a look at Stephen Speilberg's remake of West Side Story, what changes they made, why the box office numbers are low and why you will love it!Plus,➤ The new Sex and the City series' first episode has a Big ending.➤ Interview a Vampire novelist Anne Rice dies at the age of 80.Episode #3002

The ancient aliens argument has racism written all over it. Of course no one likes to be called a racist because that may mean having to admit that something they did was wrong and we all know how opposed people are to admitting wrongdoing. Nevertheless, the cult following of pseudoarchaeology, also known as alternative archaeology remains a very real threat to civilization itself. Elon Musk is currently the most prominent pusher of these quack theories about little green men building ancient structures, but there have been many down through the ages. The idea gained its cult following in the 1960s after the publication of the book "Chariots of the Gods", which makes a very clumsy and non-evidence based argument that ancient aliens, who humans worshiped as "gods", once visited earth and gave brown people the technology they needed to build complex structures like white people. The distinction of racial bias is important here because Stonehenge, the only European structure on the ancient aliens list, was only recently added to the list of structures this alien visitors built. Why is it that black and brown people have to be dumb, primitive creatures without engineering savvy, but Europeans are smart enough to be able to do this without alien intervention? Why is it always that black and brown people need help from the fantasies of white people in order to do something great? Racism, plain and simple. Do not try to tell me otherwise. Now, I know that some really want aliens to exist, but completely washing away the great accomplishments is no way to realize this science fiction fantasy. People have watched Star Wars and Star Trek so much, too much if you ask me, that they are starting to identify with these fictional beings. Demi Lovato, in their infinite philosophical wisdom, recently called on people to stop referring to aliens as aliens, "The singer and actor who identifies as nonbinary has a docuseries on Peacock titled "Unidentified with Demi Lovato" in which they explore what life there may be beyond this planet." First of all, why is Demi Lovato researching life beyond the planet with a docuseries on peacock? Aren't you like supposed to have a degree in science for this? Turns out Demi Lovato does have a degree; in fact she has a few degrees...in Jiu-Jitsu. The singer turned alien enthusiast does not even have a college degree, apparently because of bullying... Anyway, moving on, Lovato continues, "I really think that if there was anything out there that would want to do that to us (harm us is what they mean here), it would have happened by now," they said. "But I think that we have to stop calling them aliens because aliens is a derogatory term for anything. That's why I like to call them E.T.s!" You see what Stephen Speilberg and other Hollywood alien enthusiasts have done to the minds of people; we have to take into consideration the feelings of the things that may or may not exist now? Well, by that logic, you all must stop referring to jolly Ol' St. Nick as Santa Claus now because the proper name is Krampus, don't you see? Do you see how ridiculous this is getting? This is what happens when your life is nothing more than a cartoon. You begin to get in your head that you are Dexter from Dexter's Laboratory and that your science is better than everyone else's, even when there is not one scientific fact present. By the way, these crackpot theories also found their way onto the incorrectly named "History Channel", where many people around the world first heard them. Why the "History Channel" is allowed to get away with lying about science on the air and presenting it as fact I will never know, but they continue this nonsense to this very day and they are showing no sign of stopping. How long will it be before these nitwits demand ancient aliens be taught in schools too? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/morecontentplease/support

Upcoming film credits include the reboots of both "Sex and the City" and Stephen Speilberg's much-anticipated take on the iconic "West Side Story." In the 1997 Stephen Speilberg film "Amistad" John Quincy Adams says, "In a courtroom, whoever has the best story wins." It's a great line (whether or not John Quincy Adams actually said it in real life). And, there is deep, resonating truth found in it. In our lives, the best story will win. The story that most captures our imaginations, and stirs our souls, will give direction to our lives. If the "American Dream" is our favorite story, then we'll likely direct our efforts towards bigger and better possessions, etc. In today's midweek teaching we explore the importance of understanding that the gospel, at its core, is a story - the best possible story.

So many of us experienced the unexpected in 2020. When the world stopped, we were forced to reckon with who we are without busy lives to distract us. That reckoning was most uncomfortable for the busiest among us, who were moving so fast they never took the time to stop. Paloma Garcia-Lee was one of the busiest of those artists. A verteran of six Broadway shows, she spent 2019 as an original company member of Moulin Rouge! The Musical, as well as playing a featured role in F/X’s Fosse/Verdon and playing Graziella in the upcoming Stephen Speilberg helmed feature film of West Side Story. She was running on all cylinders until March 12. Here, with what happened next, is Paloma Garcia-Lee. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

During the summer of 1975 the world collectively became terrified to go into the water after Stephen Speilberg's classic shark attack thriller Jaws hit the theaters. The story of a rogue shark terrorizing a sleepy New York coastal beach town became a pop culture phenomenon but did you know that it was based on a true story that happened right here along at Jersey shore just over 100 years ago? This week we dig into the little remembered story of how a rogue shark claimed 5 victims and set off a national panic from Sea Isle to San Francisco. Also this week we discuss the NY Times latest article validating the existence of UFO's, Seattle's hockey team picks a fishy new name and more! Toxic Radio

This week I produced one of my most in depth podcasts with Matthew Valentinas who is one of the producers of "An Open Secret". An Open Secret is one the most shocking documentaries i've seen in years and its slated as the "Film That Hollywood Doesn't Want You To See". This incredible documentary investigates the dark situation at The Digital Entertainment Network (DEN) which was an early version of what Netflix was to become in terms of online content. Matthew and his team tell the stories of a number of young men who were child actors at the time and how they were reportedly groomed and abused whilst producing content for the platform, it is believed that was the main reason for the platforms creation. In the film the boys, now young men, talk about Mark Collins Rector and his partner Chad Shakley who along with a young Brock Pearce (Now in Bitcoin) had arranged numerous parties for the young boys at the M&C estate where the acts are said to have been committed as well as elsewhere during that time. The film covers the impact of this horrifying ordeal on the young men in later life. What makes this even more astounding is that this "project" was funded by the Biggest Names in Hollywood such as Dave Geffen who is the business partner of Stephen Speilberg at Dreamworks and Bryan Singer who is the director of XMen and someone who had numerous accusations against him. There are also links to Microsoft and Disney. The founder Mark Collins Rector is now a convicted Sex offender who has appeared to gone off grid as nobody seems to know where he is. In this fascinating interview Matthew Valentinas he talks about the making of the documentary, his ongoing research into Hollywood and those that run it today as well as just why this is truly the film that Hollywood Does Not Want You To See, thus they had to self distribute the film. To watch the full film for Free click the link below https://vimeo.com/138965813 A special shout out should be made to the brave man who funded this film in Gabe Hoffman who donated all original sales to The Courage to Act Foundation and made this film because he believes it to be the right thing to do. And the director Amy Berg who did a fantastic job. Please connect with Matthew if you have any further information https://twitter.com/MattValentinas http://www.sennottwilliams.com/matthew-valentinas An support An Open Secret by following the link below and sharing the film far and wide. https://www.facebook.com/AnOpenSecretDoc/ I would like to thank Matthew, Gabe, Amy and everyone involved in this important film. Hollywood is being revealed as hiding darkness behind its curtains.

Today’s episode is a bit different than a normal episode of Science of Success. We share the incredible "Real Life Story of The Epic Quest To See How The World’s Most Successful People Launched Their Careers” - including a wild journey of hacking the Price is Right, meeting Bill Gates and Lady Gaga, and an epic five year quest to study and learn form the world’s top achievers. This is a topic I’ve dedicated my life to and this fascinating discussion with our guest Alex Banayan shines some new light on one of the most important questions of our lives - what was the inflection point that set massively successful people’s lives on a different trajectory? Alex Banayan is the best-selling author of The Third Door, which chronicles his five-year quest to track down the world’s most successful people to uncover how they broke through and launched their careers. He has been named to Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list and Business Insider’s “Most Powerful People Under 30.” He has been featured in major media including Fortune, Forbes, Businessweek, Billboard, Bloomberg TV, CNBC, Fox News, MSNBC, and much more!My passion has been studying the worlds top achievers - Alex took that to another level Alex’s seven year journey becoming obsessed with studying the world’s most successful people Do you know what do you want to do with your life? Are you on the right path? How did Bill Gates, Stephen Speilberg etc achieve epic results so early in their lives? When no one would talk to the world’s most successful people early in their careers - how did they break through? The ridiculous story of “hacking” the Price is Right“The Flinch” - when you become so nervous that you don’t do anythingBreakfast with Larry King The common strategy shared by the worlds top achieversThe world’s top achievers all treat success the exact same way The Power of the Third Door Framework Most people think success is either a function of waiting your turn or being born into it The reason most people never achieve their dream is not because the dream is unachievable but because of their fear stops them from going after their dreamsTop achievers don’t achieve fearlessness, instead they achieve courage Fearlessness is jumping off a cliff without thinking about it, courage is acknowledging your fears, looking at the consequences, and then deciding you care so much about it you’re going to take one step forward anywayFor the world’s most successful people there wasn’t one big single tipping point in their lives - it was a series of incremental small steps that compounded over time When you’re in the trenches building your dream there is no tipping point - it’s all just little steps Everyone tries to over-optimize and wait for things to be perfect. If things are 80% there it’s up to you to jump and close that gap. The founder of TED live’s his life by two mantras:If you don’t ask you don’t getMost things don’t work out The Power of Possibility transforms people much more than giving them the tools and resources to succeed Homework: If you’re looking to find your path, looking to find your passion - Take the “30 Day Challenge.” Buy a notebook, write “30 day challenge” on the front. Every day for the next 30 days you have to journal about the same 3 questions. It has to be 30 consecutive days, it can’t be spread out over several months. Pick the same time of day and consistently do it:What excited me today? What filled me with enthusiasm? What drained me of energy today? What did I learn about myself today? The magic happens on the last few days Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The 1992 Hull Festival provided the launch pad for Northern Broadsides with the company presenting a new production of Richard III distinguished by its use of the northern voice. Twenty five years on, Northern Broadsides are back in Hull for its UK city of culture celebrations with Mat Fraser as Richard III. Director Barrie Rutter and Mat, who has thalidomide-induced phocomelia, discuss what casting a disabled actor in the role of theatre's most high profile disabled villain has brought to this anniversary production.Anne with an E is a new adaptation of Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic novel, Anne of Green Gables. Meg Rosoff reviews the Netflix series which tells the story of Anne Shirley, a precocious orphan placed in the care of uptight Marilla Cuthbert and her brother Matthew on a farm on Prince Edward Island, Canada.Amy Schumer talks to Kirsty about her new film Snatched, where she and her mother, played by Goldie Hawn, are abducted whilst on holiday in Ecuador.Tony Kushner discusses his musical Caroline, Or Change, which is on in Chichester, and also reveals that he's adapting West Side Story for a new film directed by Stephen Speilberg.
Over the years, we have met many people who (just like we all did at first) said they cant make their film because they don't have the right camera, or the right equipment, or the right actors, the locations, the sets, the know-how.. there's always something. What those things equate to are just excuses. It's self-sabotage. If you say you don't have what you need, then it can't be your fault when it doesn't get done, right? WRONG! The first, and most important lesson in becoming an indie filmmaker is as simple as this: JUST GET IT DONE! Your first film will be bad, it will be filled with mistakes, mishaps, problems, and everything will go wrong. And even if you're lucky enough to capture lightning in a bottle, a few years from now, you'll hate it because you'll know how to do it better. Waiting for the right equipment, or the right actor, the right location, the right set of circumstances, waiting for ANYTHING is the first mistake everyone makes. Just grab a camera and start shooting. Quality comes with experience and time. First, just get it done and go forward from there. The most difficult and challenging thing about directing a film, is getting out of the car. -Stanley Kubrick quoting Stephen Speilberg

This week, it's the second instalment in our Indiana Jones series. In the style of one of this week's recommendations, it's a bit of a tussle: dubious politics versus excellent cinematography; inexcusable racism versus comprehensible pop culture references. Fight! This week's watching: INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE (2016): Roland Emmerich, Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum SPOTLIGHT (2015): Tom McCarthy, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (2014): James Gunn, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana Recommendations: DUEL (1971): Stephen Speilberg, Richard Matheson, Dennis Weaver STREET FIGHTER (1994): Steven E. de Souza, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raúl Juliá HELP! (1965): Richard Lester, John Lennon, Paul McCartney FAN (2016): Maneesh Sharma, Aditya Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan
