Stuart Hameroff MD is Professor of Anesthesiology and Psychology, and Director of the Center for Consciousness Studies at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Hameroff became interested in intelligent behavior of microtubules, protein lattices which organize activities within living cells. Hameroff and colleagues developed theories of microtubules as self-organizing molecular computers. In the 1990s Hameroff teamed with Sir Roger Penrose on the controversial Penrose-Hameroff "Orch OR" model of consciousness based on quantum computing in brain neuronal microtubules, a notion bolstered by recent evidence. Hameroff also organizes the biennial interdisciplinary conferences, The Science of Consciousness Conference. The Science of Consciousness (āTSC') conference is the world's longest running inter-disciplinary gathering on the study of consciousness, the nature of existence, and our place in the universe. In 2025 TSC will be in Barcelona, Spain, July 6-11 (Workshops, Plenaries, Concurrents, Exhibits, Demos, Social, Poetry Slam, Dancing - AC Marriott Forum Hotel), preceding and in conjunction with The Festival of Consciousness, July 11-13 (Music, Art, Experiential, Inspiration, Spirituality, Education, Business, Evolution). Susan Blackmore brings us through a rabbit hole of psychedelics, over the bridge of paranormal phenomena, and through the tunnel of memes side by side with the origin of language, including a sidekick of stories that tie it all together. This conversation delves into human behavior, featuring two psychotherapists with differing perspectives on archetypes, yet finding common ground in mystical experiences and the placebo effect. With unfiltered charm, Susan Blackmore adds a delightful and synchronistic touch to this engaging discussion. PiÅ”e Marija Å vajncer. bereta Eva Longyka MaruÅ”iÄ in Igor VelÅ”e. Branje tega v lepem jeziku in izbranem slogu napisanega tehtnega dela zaradi zgoÅ”Äenosti in nakopiÄenega vĆ©denja zahteva zbranost, primerno pozornost in najbrž tudi kar nekaj filozofske izobrazbe. Filozof pravi: "Kakorkoli že, razmiÅ”ljanje o naravi duha zame ni le teoretsko, pojmovno, jezikovnoanalitiÄno poÄetje, ampak me tudi osebno in eksistencialno prizadeva. A do Heglove filozofije seveda ohranja primerno kritiÄnost.

From 2016: Richard Weikart, professor of history at California State University, joins Premier Unbelievable? to talk about his new book 'The Death of Humanity'. He says the loss of belief in the value of human life is leading to disastrous consequences for society. Peter Singer is an Australian ethicist who believes we should dispense with the concept of the sanctity of human life in favour of a view of 'personhood'. Humans who are less capable of having preferences, such as babies, have less claim to be kept alive. They debate whether this view of humanity is dangerous and Susan Blackmore, atheist psychologist and philosopher also joins the conversation. ⢠Subscribe to the Unbelievable? podcast: https://pod.link/267142101 ⢠More shows, free eBook & newsletter: https://premierunbelievable.com ⢠For live events: http://www.unbelievable.live ⢠For online learning: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/training ⢠Support us in the USA: http://www.premierinsight.org/unbelievableshow ⢠Support us in the rest of the world: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/donate

Is our subjective experience of Free Will, supported by the experimental evidence? If not, how do we take moral responsibility for our actions? Why do meditators, who're used to watching their thoughts arise and pass without identifying with them, find this data easier to integrate? In this episode, we have the tough job of evaluating the experimental evidence for the existence of Free Will. The debate has raged for centuries in Philosophy, but now with advances in neuroscience and psychology experiments, we have some actual physical evidence to examine, and its implications to reflect on. We're going to discuss how most of those who accept this evidence have chosen to carry on as if it they still have Free Will, which sounds contradictory. Do the implications for personal moral responsibility require us to do that? We're also going to get into meditation and Zen, as our guest today and another famous advocate of the illusion of free will, Sam Harris, are long term practitioners. It seems those who use some kind of mindfulness meditation, and hence are used to watching the way thoughts arise and pass without identifying with them, are less troubled by the idea that they may not have free will. What does all this mean for the reality of a āself'? So who better to explain this mind boggling question than, our first returning guest, psychologist, author and visiting Professor at Plymouth University, Susan Blackmore. Best known for her books The Meme Machine, Consciousness: An Introduction, and Seeing Myself, Sue's work spans across hundreds of publications in over 20 different languages, making huge contributions in the fields of psychology, memetics, religion, philosophy of mind, supernatural experience, and many other areas. In episode 20 of the Quantum Consciousness series, Justin Riddle discusses language as fundamental to a description of reality. It's tempting to view linguistics as a luxury science only for humans with some free time on their hands. But language is fundamentally mysterious. Just as mathematics cannot be reduced down to simple principles, language has similarly avoided an easy description. Could it be because language is core to how our minds think at a fundamental level and is not just a tool used for communication? In this episode, we discuss the idea that language is the programming of our computational self. On a digital computer level, our code is like that of DNA ā it can be copied directly. But at a quantum computer level, wave functions are not allowed to be copied directly (the no-cloning theorem). It goes to reason that quantum information requires a new type of information copying to occur: perhaps the language of quantum computers is more akin to a schema, motif, or meme. Finally, if we accept that the human mind is plugged into a fractal matrix that connects to the universe at a grander scale, then we must find some third type of language to describe the functioning of our fractal computing self. Borrowing from Susan Blackmore's terminology, we use the word ātemeā to describe a type of pure meaning that does not require interpretation but goes beyond any individual human. With these descriptions, we find ourselves with two types of information that appear to be polar opposites: (1) digital information that is arbitrary, and (2) universal meaning which is anything but arbitrary. The field of linguistics has grappled with these types of information when trying to describe the origin of language. Is language built from arbitrary associations and thus determined primarily by culture and history, or is there some universal grammar that enables all humans to process language which transcends culture and history? How will these competing origins of language be resolved? Watch this episode to find out!

A free webinar on May 15, 2021, features some of the scientists. https://scientificandmedical.net/events/gayle-kimball/ Gayle Kimball interviewed 65 visionary scientists, leaders in the Consciousness Movement, to learn what their research findings reveal about reality. She also asked about their personal development to discover why they're so brave as they challenge the dominant materialist paradigm. The three books in the Mysteries Trilogy explore how consciousness shapes reality, enables healing and provides access to knowledge from beyond the physical senses. The visionary scientists conclude that we are more than our physical bodies with more potential than we realize and that science needs to expand to account for consciousness. Common themes that surfaced about these pioneers indicate that the visionary scientists are highly intelligent and did well in school and university, as you would expect. The majority were first-born in their families (35 compared to 26 latter-born). Most of the US scientists grew up on the East or West Coast or live there now, with a few exceptions, such as some born in the Midwestern states like Ohio. Others grew up in the UK or Canada and one each in Germany, Brazil and the Netherlands (Bernardo Kastrup), Italy, or Greece. Some are first-generation with parents from India, Latvia, Palestine, and Ireland, demonstrating the rich contributions provided by immigrant families. Some had health or family problems in their youth that motivated their search for understanding. Some of the visionary scientists had unexpected and transformative mystical experiences, like physicians John Ryan* and Richard Moss,* physicist Jude Currivan,* psychologist Steve Taylor,* and linguist J.J. Hurtak.* For a few, an NDE was transformative, such as for Eben Alexander,* Joyce Hawkes, and Marilyn Mandela Schlitz.* Family influences included visionary mothers for James Carpenter,* David Lorimer,* Judith Swack,* Christine Simmonds-Moore* and John Kruth,* or an influential sibling for Marjorie Woollacott,* David Muehsam,* Mary Rose Barrington,* and Larry Burk.* Psychedelic drugs influenced scientists like Susan Blackmore* and David Luke.* Having his ābad backā healed by a man he met while lifeguarding at a swimming pool led William Bengston* to research healing, and an injury led Richard Hammerschlag* to study acupuncture. Overall, curiosity about reality and the willingness to study the data was the main motivation to follow the evidence, however much in conflict with the materialist belief system.
Subjective or Objective? In this Episode we're going to be introducing one of the oldest and most talked about problems in philosophy, the problem of consciousness. Just how does our subjective experience as humans relate to our existence as human bodies with brains? For most of the 20th century you couldn't really talk about this as a serious scientist without being laughed at and told to study something useful. But since the 90's, with the advancement of MRI brain imaging in neuroscience, and the coining the term The āHard Problem' by funky philosopher David Chalmers, Consciousness studies have blossomed back into mainstream science. To kick off the podcast with a bang, and explain the mystery that perhaps underlies all mysteries is psychologist and author and visiting Professor at Plymouth University, Dr Susan Blackmore. Best known for her books The Meme Machine, Zen and the Art of Consciousness, Consciousness: An Introduction, and Seeing Myself, Sue's work spans across hundreds of publications in over 20 different languages, making huge contributions in the fields of psychology, memetics, religion, philosophy of mind, supernatural experience, and many other areas. It is no surprise to find her ranked amongst 2013's 30 Most Influential Psychologists Working Today and 2015's Top 100 Global Minds. CONSCIOUSNESS - Why do we have inner awareness? Why does it āfeel like something' inside to see, hear, taste, think? It's called āconsciousness' and it seems mysteriousābut can science explain it? We talk to experts at the 20th biennial conference, āToward a Science of Consciousness.ā Featuring Stuart Hameroff, David Chalmers, Daniel Dennett, Deepak Chopra, Susan Blackmore and Rebecca Goldstein.
The term meme was introduced by Richard Dawkins in his 1976 bestseller "The Selfish Gene."Dawkins was trying to establish the idea that Darwinian evolution is a universal, almost logically necessary phenomenon. He couldn't, however, point to exobiological examples to reinforce the concept of universal Darwinism, so he turned to cultural evolution, renamed āideasā as āmemesā (in direct analogy with genes), and voilĆ , the field of memetics was born. Despite staunch support by authors such as Susan Blackmore and Daniel Dennett, among others though, serious questions can be raised about memes and memetics as a viable concept and field of inquiry. To begin with, how is this different from classical studies of gene-culture co-evolution? Second, what, exactly are memes, i.e. what is their ontological status? Third, how do memes compete with each other, and for what resources? Is it even possible to build a functional ecology of memes, without which the statement that the most fit memes are those that spread becomes an empty tautology? Could this explain why the "Journal of Memetics" closed shop, or is it that they discovered everything there was to discover about memes? Sped up the speakers by [1.0, 1.121137339055794]

David was born in 1954 in Suffolk, Virginia, but moved to Delray Beach, Florida, in the fall of 1963, where he first became interested in the paranormal. In 1965, his next door next door neighbor, Fred W. Grosstuck, a retired college professor and pattern maker, gave him a book called "Adventures in the Paranormal", essentially a collection of short stories of events from all over the world that were scientifically unexplainable. Fred also introduced him to Fate magazine. He proceeded to read every book about the paranormal he could get his hands on. He participated in the exploration of his first "haunted house" at the age of 17 in Boynton Beach, Florida. He received his B.S.E.E. in 1973 while serving in the Air Force, in microwave technology. In November of 2007 he received his Masters in Electronic Engineering in Digital Signal Processing. In 1978 he was certified as an audio engineer and in 1985 as an acoustic engineer. David worked in the entertainment industry as a Technical Director, Lighting Designer and Audio Engineer for over twenty years. He retired from the University of Florida in 2001. Currently David is Manager of Public Address Communications Technologies and Director of the Audio Research and Development Lab for the third largest public transportation corporation in the nation. He is currently working on his doctorate in physics. David is a professional member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Audio Engineering Society, the International Frequency Sensor Association, and is also affiliated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was recently invited to join the Mathematics Association of America. David began his research into the paranormal professionally in 1976, and has investigated cases scientifically from Rhode Island to Key West, Florida. David has experimented with both scientific as well as metaphysical techniques in his study of unexplained occurrences. Over the course of his research he was able to confirm EVP was not related to sound by the use of a Bell Jar, a vacuum pump, a Shure dynamic microphone and a TEAC A-4010S Reel to Reel recorder. Due to several encounters of a very negative nature from 1985-87, he made the decision to concentrate on the scientific research concerning the phenomena, and not the metaphysical aspects of the events. In 1992 David formed a new organization, Scientific Paranormal Investigative Research Information and Technology (S.P.I.R.I.T.), and began a long and painstaking process of collecting, building and focusing a battery of hi-tech instrumentation to concentrate on laboratory and field experimentation to search for the cause of paranormal phenomena. By 1998 his focus of research had narrowed to phenomena specific to āHauntingsā. His primary focus since 1998 has been EVP research, employing his background of audio engineering and psychoacoustics. In 2005 David successfully linked electromagnetic fields as the primary source of EVPs. In 2010 he discovered that paranormal related EMF was an emergent phenomenon. This has led him to develope a wormhole hypothesis associated with a paranormal event horizon. He continues to look for answers in science for paranormal phenomena. David's additional areas of research includes investigating the relationship between free air conductance, magnetic fields, radioactive emissions, electromagnetic fields and other electrical radiation surrounding paranormal phenomena. He is also experimenting with injecting energy into a paranormal event horizon using Tesla Coil technology in order to observe and record the effects. He continues to measure the effects of massive ion bombardment in a paranormal environment. He is developing a device designed to capture and analyze the phenomena referred to as orbs in order to either prove or dismiss their existence. David is also experimenting with a self designed ITC (Interdimensional Trans-Communications) device using electromagnetic field propagation as a medium of cross communication. He is also studying the environmental effects surrounding mediums and psychics when they are active in their work. David is a board member of the Professional Society for the Advancement of Paranormal Research and is currently serving as Acting Executive Director. He is the Director of the S.P.I.R.I.T. Laboratory, Co-Director of New Jersey Paranormal Resource Group, Co-Founder of New Jersey Paranormal Investigative Coalition, a professional member of the Rhine Research Center, life member of the New Jersey Ghost Hunter's Society, member of the International Paranormal Investigators, and a member of the International Paranormal Research Association. He is also a consultant for Paranexus Anomalous Research, Inc. He is a member of numerous paranormal organizations and groups. David was featured on Comcast Newsmakers in 2006. He has also been a guest on WNTI FM, and WRNJ AM-FM radio in Hackettstown, NJ, as well as a repeat guest on HSTV Channel 23 in Hackettstown on the show āScience on the Edgeā hosted by Dr. Karl Hricko. He has made guest appearances on Web Radio programs such as Ecto Radio, The Shadow Hour, Dead Time Radio, Paranexus Anomalous Radio, with Royce Holleman on Paranormal Palace Radio, Paratopia Radio, and recently nationwide on Coast to Coast AM and WOIC AM in Columbia South Carolina. He co-hosts āThe Devil's Advocate podcast with Dr. Stephen Rorke and has interviewed such researchers such as Dr. Susan Blackmore and Dr. Michael Persinger. Not only does David do media interviews, but he is also available as a consultant on media projects for a competitive fee. Additionally he is available for speaking engagements for an honorarium. David is currently booking presentations at conventions and universities.
