I have had the great blessing of witnessing people's stories over the last 30 years as a therapist and teacher. During this time, I have learned to identify various archetypes – universal models of people's personalities that play a role in influencing their human behavior. Carl Jung, who founded the field of analytical psychology, developed 12 Archetypes including The Sage, The Innocent, The Explorer, and more.Through my own work in the field of psychology and human studies, I have identified another archetype that I named The Lighthouse. This archetype illuminates the parts of ourselves that are hidden or unseen. They shine a light on new ideas, perspectives, inspirations, and insights into human soulful experiences. The Lighthouse also teaches us how to become whole and accept all parts of ourselves by offering us new ways to process and integrate the darker experiences we have had in life, such as death, divorce, or disease.Today's guest on Cracking Open, Suzanne Anderson, MA, is one of the most beautiful examples of The Lighthouse I have ever come across in my life. Suzanne is the founder of The Mysterial Woman, a psychologist, coach, leadership consultant, transformational teacher, and author of the newly released memoir & guidebook You Make Your Path By Walking. Her pioneering work in guiding women to awaken their full Feminine and Masculine strengths combines insights and practices from ancient wisdom, depth psychology, and modern neuroscience. Combining her graduate studies in women's developmental psychology together with her decades as a leadership consultant, Suzanne wisely guides women to awaken to the next level of consciousness and leadership capacity, making the changes in themselves they want to shape in the world. She is an incredibly bright light, who has also learned how to navigate through immense darkness. Suzanne lost her beloved husband to suicide in 2013, and in the coming months also lost their island retreat center, her cat, her community, her company, and the future they had created together. Suzanne shares with us how she made it through this dark night of the soul with a certainty that this was a transformation and an awakening to reclaim her power and bring her to a place of greater compassion and love. As a Lighthouse, Suzanne shows us that when life has sent us on a deep dive into the darkness, that through practices in ancient wisdom, depth psychology, and sh*t loads of love, compassion, and support, we can rise and reawaken back into the light, more vibrant than ever before.Love,MollyLearn more about Suzanne Anderson and The Mysterial Woman herePurchase You Make Your Path By Walking hereConnect with Suzanne on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram Learn more about Molly Carroll hereGet your free Body Emotion MapConnect with Molly on Instagram and Facebook

In this episode, Dean and Paula are joined by friends and athletes Lee and Suzanne Anderson. Coach Paula, Suzanne, and Lee share their experiences racing the Jack and Jill Downhill Marathon outside of Seattle Washington. Coach Dean shares his experience spectating the race. This is an awesome venue for racing which takes place on the former railroad trail now known as the Iron Horse Trail. It includes a train tunnel that is over two miles long. The gradual downhill is very subtle for most of the race. This is a great course to race a fast time and possibly Boston Qualify. Key spectating locations are around mile 11, 16, 21, and the finish. RyR is a team of runners and triathletes who receive comprehensive and customized coaching. The team name has dual meanings. The first is based in Hebrews 12:1 in which Christians are instructed to run the race set before us. In this context, RyR stands for Run your Race, with an emphasis on meeting you (the athlete) where you are and coming alongside you to help you reach your goals. The verse emphasizes patience, endurance, and perseverance. These qualities are essential for success as both athletes and coaches. The second meaning is based on the enduring friendship and marriage between the founding coaches, Dean and Paula Roberts. In this context, RyR stands for Roberts and Roberts. While our primary mission is to help athletes set and reach fitness and performance goals, we understand that this must occur within the context of each athlete's daily life. We strive to form an individual relationship with each athlete and make sure weekly training fits seamlessly into family life and work schedules.

Today we are joined by Suzanne Anderson, mom of Memphis Grizzlies NBA star Kyle Anderson. At 18 months old, Kyle was already shooting balls into his Little Tikes Basketball Net and his mom tells us how worried she was because he wasn’t interested in anything else. Needless to say, Suzanne realized early on his fascination with the game would lead to an incredible journey beginning with his high school career where he received national recognition as a Parade All-American, McDonald’s All-American, playing in the Jordan Brand Classic and the Nike Hoop Summit. We talk about the college recruitment process, playing al UCLA for the Bruins, the NCAA investigation and her experience of racial profiling. Suzanne takes us through the thought process behind their decision to declare for the draft. The 2014 draft was the day Kyle’s dream came true when he was chosen as a first round pick by the San Antonio Spurs where he played for four seasons alongside superstars Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard. Suzanne also talks about her own journey on Ancestor.com which led to her discovery of who she is and a trip of a lifetime for her and Kyle and how this new understanding of his heritage has impacted the way he is raising his child and living his life.

Just as she was on the verge of publishing her first book, Suzanne Anderson's husband died of suicide, tossing her into a very dark and difficult abyss. Her entire life was changed by this tragedy and she turned to the same self-care and support practices she taught as a writer, speaker, and leadership innovator. These practices enabled her to be present with each of the emotions and experiences connected to her grief. We talk about the shame and stigma associated with suicide and how she worked to dismantle both as she grieved her husband's death. Within 6 months, her life had drastically contracted, when she had expected expansion, and everything she considered the most dear was gone. Through it all, Suzanne’s center held, even though she had never felt so uncertain. Style of Leadership Suzanne’s leadership is Mysterial. She brings together the feminine and masculine principles and embraces the capacity to unfold the emergent. What Are You Excited About? Suzanne is excited about her transition into the online world. Now with the worldwide online community, Suzanna can see her vision coming to life.
