Deap Vally came out of the box hard in 2011 and within two years were playing Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, and Reading Festival. The drop of Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards released three great albums, a bunch of singles and EP's, a collab with Flaming Lips (Deap Lips) in 2019 and toured extensively since their formation. In September, they announced that they were doing their farewell tour in 2024 and here we are. We love Deap Vally and were psyched to talk with them. Enjoy! Lindsey Troy and Julie Edwards are the drummer and guitarist respectively for the Los Angeles based band, Deap Vally. Since 2011 they have recorded and released four LP's three EP's and have consistently toured the world. On February 1st , they will release Sistrionix 2.0, a newly recorded version of their 2011 LP Sistrionix. In this episode, we hear what motivated the two to form a band, how early childhood experiences influenced their interest in performance and why a knitting shop brought them together. Lindsey and Julie share their un-healthy and stressful stint on a major label, why they re-recorded their record and the magic ingredient on the new recording. They discuss the compatibility of both being in a band and a mom, what it's like touring with kids and what the future for Deap Vally holds. Sonia Barcelona is both a musician & photographer. Named Best of Las Vegas by the Las Vegas Weekly & Desert Companion, Sonia has opened for the likes of Japanese Breakfast, SALES, Deap Vally, and Pearl Charles. She has been featured on VICE TV, Fox5, and ABC networks. After a few years performing at open mics, the desire to further pursue music became apparent. She would quit her job in 2016 to become a full-time artist. Her 2019 debut album "Bitter Melon" brings a new and bigger sound reflective of her 90s grunge rock influences. Her single “Indian Girl” speaks to her Indian & Filipino heritage.

Julie Edwards and Marc Smollin recently formed the avant-rock duo Heads Are Heavy. Formerly known as The Pity Party, they show no signs of slowing down. Having met in eighth grade, Smollin and Edwards have gone through life on the same wavelength, even when they're continents apart. Edwards is also part of the globally successful female blues-rock duo Deap Vally and was recently involved in a collaboration with The Flaming Lips known as Deap Lips. Creatively joined at the hip, Julie and Marc dusted off forgotten demos they made together years ago and decided they should do something with them. That's how they came to form Heads Are Heavy. They talk about their propulsive debut single “That Sounds Okay,” as well as coping mechanisms for dealing with physical pain, alternative forms of self-care, and their adventures touring around Europe. Vulpynes are a two piece punk rock band from Dublin comprising of Kaz on drums and Maeve Molly on guitar and vocals. In spite of the lack of a bass player the band have a weighty sound which is generated through overdrive, distortion and Kaz's intense and controlled drumming. In July 2016 only months after forming the band released their first single "Terry Said" and in 2017 released their second single "OCD".  In 2018 they released their debut EP ‘Vulpynes’ on UK label Headcheck Records to critical acclaim - supported Marmozets, Deap Vally & DOYLE(Misfits), blazed a trail across the UK festival circuit, made their German gig debut and released their gritty, impassioned track 2 Cents. They have recently toured with Sleaford Mods and are about to play their own show The Academy.

We All Want To: Formed back in 2009, We All Want To is the brain child of Tim Steward, namely the front man of Brisbane institution ‘Screamfeeder’ to discover some melodies and hooks in slower tempo’s. A bulk of the material that you’ll be hearing in this set comes from the self-titled debut album that was released in 2010, and 2013’s “Come Up Invisible”. The show we’re about to delve into was recorded last year at The Underdog, and was the book-end to what had been a successful Brisbane Live Music Week that was celebrated by 4ZZZ and all of its listeners. Dreamtime: Dreamtime are a psychedelic rock quartet that started life as a trio, with Zac Anderson on Guitar, Cat Maddin on Bass and Tara Wardrop on Drums, and saw their ideas outgrowing them, so they added Fergus Smith on Sitar and various other instruments. Their first self-titled album was released in 2011 and quickly followed it up with their sophomore release ‘Sun’ in 2012.
