Welcome to The Gwart Show! Today, Willem from Botanix Labs joins us to discuss their pioneering "spider chain" approach for Bitcoin's second layer. Unlike traditional rollups, Botanix creates a decentralized network of multi-sig validators to bring EVM capabilities to Bitcoin while maintaining censorship resistance. Willem explains why decentralization matters for DeFi applications, how their validator system works with Bitcoin staking, and why they've chosen a different path than rollups. With mainnet launch planned for Q2, Botanix aims to enable Bitcoin holders to use their BTC in familiar DeFi applications without sacrificing security. As the crypto industry matures, more sophisticated market participants become involved. As a result, risk management and hedging will evolve to levels seen in TradFi. However, regardless of the preferred market activity, when interacting with a blockchain, every actor competes for the same limited blockspace. Based on demand levels, the cost for securing that blockspace can fluctuate (in the form of miner fees for Bitcoin transactions, or gas fees for PoS blockchains). Therefore, a particular niche of power users could lower these costs by reserving blockspace in advance of elevated demand levels. Her impressive background includes being the first ML engineer at Viaduct, doing research engineering at Google Brain, and software engineering at Facebook. In this episode, we dive deep into the world of LLMs and the critical challenges of building reliable AI pipelines. We'll explore: The fascinating journey from classic machine learning to the current LLM revolution Why Shreya believes most ML problems are actually data management issues The concept of "data flywheels" for LLM applications and how to implement them The intriguing world of evaluating AI systems - who validates the validators? Shreya's work on SPADE and EvalGen, innovative tools for synthesizing data quality assertions and aligning LLM evaluations with human preferences The importance of human-in-the-loop processes in AI development The future of low-code and no-code tools in the AI landscape We'll also touch on the potential pitfalls of over-relying on LLMs, the concept of "Habsburg AI," and how to avoid disappearing up our own proverbial arseholes in the world of recursive AI processes. Isodoros Passadis is a contributor to the Lido DAO as Master of Validators, while Alon Muroch is the Founder of SSV Labs.     Why you should listen Lido (the biggest LST by TVL on Ethereum) is deploying the new SimpleDVT module. Liquid staking protocols allow users to mint a transferable utility token that can be used in on-chain activities while their stake is locked-up while they continue to get staking rewards without maintaining any staking infrastructure. Thus it is said to be “liquid”. The Lido protocol is integrating Distributed validator technology (DVT) to help increase and decentralize its node operations. SSV Network is a leading DVT provider and will have its technology integrated into the module.  SSV Network distributed validator infrastructure establishes a new standard for staking by providing a permissionless and decentralized platform to develop the next go-to applications and tooling for the staking industry. Let's start with the why… Why do we need guardrails for LLMs today?Topic 3 - Where and how do you control (maybe validate is a better word) outputs from LLM's today? What are your thoughts on the best way to validate outputs?Topic 4 - Will this workflow work with both closed-source (ChatGPT) and opensource (Llama2) models? Would this process apply to training/fine-tuning or more for inference? Would this potentially replace humans in the loop that we see today or is this completely different?Topic 5 - What are some of the most common early use cases and practical examples? PII detection comes to mind, violation of ethics or laws, off-topic/out of scope, or simply just something the model isn't designed to provide?Topic 6 - What happens if it fails? Does this create a loop scenario to try again?Topic 7 - Let's talk about Guardrails AI specifically. Today you offer an open-source marketplace of Validators in the Guardrails Hub, correct? As we mentioned earlier, almost everyone's implementation and guardrails they want to implement will be different. Is the best way to think about this as building blocks using validators that are pieced together?  Tell everyone a little bit about the offeringFEEDBACK?Email: show at the cloudcast dot netTwitter: @cloudcastpodInstagram: @cloudcastpodTikTok: @cloudcastpod

As Ethereum ‘merged' to its current proof-of-stake consensus model, the steep (for retail) minimum stake of 32 ETH created a serious risk of centralisation through staking delegation to centralised entities. Lido DAO was envisioned to preserve staking decentralisation, while also providing additional value for staked ETH in the form of liquid staking tokens (LST). However, as its market share reached the first threshold of 33%, concerns have started to be voiced regarding Lido's own risk of centralisation. Through its dual governance model where stakers can veto $LDO voters, and the upcoming implementation of distributed validator technology (DVT) and community staking module (CSM), the Lido DAO aims to preserve staking decentralisation. We were joined by Isidoros Passadis, contributor and Master of Validators at Lido DAO, to discuss Ethereum's current liquid staking landscape, Lido's governance model and what steps it takes to ensure staking decentralisation.Topics covered in this episode:Isidoros' background and how he started working at Lido DAOLido's core architecture and how it ensures decentralisationTransitioning from a curated node operator set to a permisionless modelDistributed Validator Technology (DVT)Lido's dual governance modelstETH bridging and use cases in DeFiHow Lido adapts to Ethereum forks & EIPsMaximum validator effective balance and minimal staking issuanceEthereum vs. Lido governanceLido's approach to MEVRestaking & EigenlayerExpanding Lido to other chainsLido's market share and other liquid staking competitorsEpisode links:Isidoros Passadis on TwitterLido on TwitterSponsors:Gnosis: Gnosis builds decentralized infrastructure for the Ethereum ecosystem, since 2015. Until now, we have had almost no way of evaluating Ethereum validator performance. This lack of accessible data around nodes and their operators has been keeping users, builders, investors, and other validators in the dark about the very health of the Ethereum network. But Elias Simos and the Rated team have created a solution.Elias joins us today to shed light on the state of Ethereum infrastructure. He explains the importance of accessible blockchain infrastructure data, how Rated turns that data into usable performance ratings, and how the idea came about in the first place. We also discuss the challenges that come along with building a product like Rated in a multichain world, and Elias sends us off with some advice for staying sane while working in crypto.

Back in 2017, there was no DeFi as we know it today, yet MakerDAO were already envisioning and building towards what they thought to be a certainty. The backbone of DeFi is represented by stable coins, and MakerDAO quickly understood this: they set out to build a decentralised stable coin, $DAI (and its precursor $SAI). Being collateral-backed, the smart contract needs to know the value of that collateral, but any off-chain price data is not readily available on-chain. This is where oracles come in and provide data feeds on-chain. MakerDAO's internal oracle has been active since 2017 on Ethereum and has recently branched out, forming Chronicle. By using aggregated Schnorr signatures, Chronicle solves the problem of oracle cost-efficient scaling. We were joined by Niklas Kunkel, founder of Chronicle, to discuss the challenges and tradeoffs that oracles regularly face, and how Chronicle is solving them, continuing the ethos of early MakerDAO.Topics covered in this episode:Niklas' background and the early days of MakerDAOHow MakerDAO evolved over time and the adoption of DAIMakerDAO's core principlesWhy Chronicle branched out from MakerDAOOracle challenges & tradeoffsOracle validatorsBusiness model for oraclesProviding oracle services to different blockchainsSchnorr signaturesChronicle's supported chains and oracle offeringsReal-world assets (RWA) and credit delegationEpisode links: Niklas Kunkel on TwitterChronicle on TwitterMaker DAO on TwitterThis episode is hosted by Sebastien Couture & Felix Lutsch.
