What to expect in the Yoga In Liberia episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast Massa Mamey-Clarke shares her beautiful story with us on the Wild Yoga Tribe podcast, a story of self-discovery, resilience, and a deep-rooted passion for sharing the transformative power of yoga with her community in Libera.  Massa's journey with yoga began unexpectedly during her senior year of college in the United States. A chance encounter with the crow pose sparked her curiosity, leading her to explore this ancient practice. Despite being unfamiliar with yoga, Massa was captivated by the beauty and grace of the poses she discovered online. Thus, her journey as a self-taught yogi commenced, marking the beginning of a transformative path. Driven by the profound impact yoga had on her life, Massa felt compelled to share this gift with others, especially in Liberia. Recognizing the need for mental wellness amidst the backdrop of Liberia's tumultuous history, Massa saw yoga as a gateway to healing and resilience for her community. Thus, her vision to become a yoga teacher and establish a studio in Liberia was born. As Massa's teaching journey progressed, she learned valuable lessons about the importance of self-care and boundaries. Does it feel like it's your job to make sure everyone around you is okay even though you're trying to run a business? And on top of that, they never appreciate it. You know the person you hired to help you with your logo, or marketing, or bookkeeping is going through it personally so they keep dropping the ball. But you say yes, it's okay. I understand, take your time.  And you end up doing half the work yourself because you feel bad for their situation.    Your friend thinks that because you work for yourself, you can help her move in the midweek, in the middle of the day! And you say yes! (Even though you don't have the time!)     Some rando on LinkedIn wants to pick your brain, and you're so grateful it wasn't a sales pitch that you said yes. You don't have the time or energy for this. And then when he asked if you could meet with him again, you still said yes.  Come to find out later that he's just trying to get a date with you.    You run into an acquaintance who's having a birthday party. And even though you're exhausted, you feel like you “have to” show up. Because you don't want her to think you don't like her. It's always something. It feels like everyone wants a piece of you, and you keep saying yes.    You keep doing, they keep NOT appreciating.  Is it any surprise you feel like a burning ember in a campfire?     For many people, it'll take a major catastrophe or a near-death experience to release the “say yes” habit. I do NOT want that for you.   It's why I love talking to people who've released the “always say yes” habit on my podcast. Because it helps others understand what they can do to release their own “say yes” habit.    Join me this week for a conversation with entrepreneur and Founder of Wild Yoga Tribe, Lily Allan-Duenas, to learn how she stopped saying yes to everyone else and started saying yes to herself.

Welcome to Episode #56 of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast! My conversation with Roxana Corojan, a yoga teacher from Romania, was so real and vulnerable, as we dove into how yoga can hold you, and can be a remedy for that which ails you, and that which you struggle against. I hope that this conversation delight in how yoga can be a playground, and how embodiment is empowerment. If you're looking to tune into a podcast episode that is all about embodiment, play, and about turning your practice into a process, then this is the conversation for you. Roxana is a yoga teacher from Romania, was actually trained by Carlos Romero in Bali - who is a previous guest on the Wild Yoga Tribe podcast on Episode #34. Roxana is a yoga teacher and Thai yoga massage therapist who is deeply passionate about Somatics and Embodiment. She loves to mix mindfulness with play, and to bring yoga to alternative places. Support the podcast: https://www.patreon.com/wildyogatribe What to expect in the Yoga In Romania episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast Roxana came to yoga through her sister's advice, and although she didn't like it at first— she quickly came to love it. After experiencing severe burnout, she quit her job and headed off to Bali. She met Carlos Romero there, and fell in love with Thai Yoga massage, and with her practice. Although she never planned on becoming a yoga teacher, that was where the path led her. Roxana seeks to create a home and a strong sense of community with each yoga class she teaches, and she felt in her bones she had found the right space to open a yoga studio in Romania. She opened her yoga studio and created beautiful rituals of sharing tea and practicing yoga, or sharing desserts, or doing tarot readings and yoga. Roxana realized, a long time ago, that community is what brings her true happiness. Though, Roxana realized that to be a yoga teacher means having ten jobs at once and to be a studio owner, she felt like some of her joy was diminished with the fatigue of doing too many things. She decided to close her yoga studio and to work with other yoga studies as a freelancer. I found it so powerful how Roxana said, “To be a yoga teacher is to be a composer of experiences.” And when we dove into the world of embodiment— WOW! She talked about yoga as a playground, to be able to play with the boundaries of form and to explore. Through embodiment she was able to touch into her sensuality, and felt waves of creativity and embodiment. One of Roxana's mantras is, “Turn your practice into a process.” For the skimmers - What's in the yoga in Romania episode? Welcome to Episode #50 of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast! This week, I welcome Dariya Kolodiy onto the show. She is a yoga teacher from Ukraine, who is now leaving in Poland. It was an honor to talk to Dariya in honor and celebration of the 50th episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe podcast. We've been together, dear listeners, for nearly a full near now and the 50th episode is certainly one to celebrate. My conversation with Dariya Kolodiy, a yoga teacher from Ukraine, was so beautiful as we talked about how yoga helps give acceptance of others and of the self as well. I hope that this conversation made you realize that no matter where you go, a yoga studio and your yoga mat will always be a safe place, a sanctuary, a place to come home to. Of course, we also talked about the war, and how her family and life has been effected. If you want to learn more about yoga in Ukraine, tune in to our powerful conversation together. Tell me more about Dariya Kolodiy Dariya Kolodiy is a yoga teacher from Ukraine, from the city of Kiev, who currently lives in Poland. She first began practicing yoga in 2004, however she began teaching yoga in 2016 upon completion of her yoga teacher training in Ukraine. She is an ashtanga practicer, also called an ashtangi. She has taught yoga—and lived!—in Kazakhstan with her husband, and it was due to his job that they moved to Warsaw, Poland in 2020. Dariya knows that over the years, she has not only become healthier, more flexible, and stronger through yoga, but yoga has completely changed her life. She began to really hear herself, to realize her desires and to be more present in the here and the now. Dariya knows for sure that yoga is a path that leads in the right direction. What to expect in the Yoga In Ukraine episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast Dariya and I opened the conversation by talking about how she first came to the practice of yoga— naturally, it was through the asana practice. Before the war, there were tons of yoga studios in Ukraine with a lot of different styles to try and to practice, and that was something she was very grateful for! We moved our conversation through what yoga means to Dairya— a place to learn acceptance of yourself and acceptance of others. She sees yoga, and yoga studios and shalas, as places where she will always find a home and a community. When she has travelled and moved to other countries and cities, she has always found her tribe in the yoga studio itself. Of course, the Ukraine and Russian war was brought up. But we also talked about what yoga in Ukraine was like before the war, and what Ukraine is like as a country to live in and to visit. For the skimmers - What's in the yoga in Ukraine episode? She first founded Om Yoga Studios in 2013, and then founded the EPIC Festival in Marrakech in 2019. Since 2019, she also runs EPIC yoga teacher trainings in Morocco. Lily studied ashtanga yoga in Thailand, and Aerial Yoga with Cirque du Soleil artists. For her, a beautiful series of yoga is like a work of art, a mix of technique and intuition. My conversation with Aurélie Martin Scally, who founded five yoga studios in Morocco, was so incredible as we took a deep dive into the world of studio ownership and how to cultivate energy and spirit in multiple studio centers. We also discussed yoga as a way to find balance. The world isn't black or white, and yoga is a way to discover, see, and accept all the variations of color you have inside of you. What to expect in the Yoga In Morocco episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast Aurélie discovered a Bikram yoga studio in Morocco, and after the death of her father, she found strength and solace on the yoga mat. The owner of that Bikram yoga studio, Nabil Scally, would soon become Lily's husband. After closing the Bikram yoga studio, Lily and Nabil founded Om Yoga Studios in Morocco, first in Casablanca and then later in Marrakech and Dakhla. They now own five yoga studios, and founded EPIC Yoga Festival and EPIC Yoga Teacher Trainings in Morocco, and available online— soon available around the world on their yoga world tour! During our conversation, Lily and I discussed what it was like to open a yoga studio in Morocco, and the advice she would offer to yoga teachers who hope to open their own yoga studios one day. Her main advice is to be careful to not get lost in the yoga studio area, keep your own personal practice strong and keep teaching. And to also be careful to not teach too much. It can be tempting to teach all-day every day, and also marketing, accounting, planning, and more— so many hats!— but to make sure not to burn yourself out. Curious? In episode 28 we're going to tackle Instagram marketing. If you're anything like me, you might not necessarily the biggest fan of social media, but do understand its importance. So, before you go heading for another podcast to listen to, pause for a moment to consider this episode not as a lesson in social media (although it will be a great one), but as a lesson on how to build a dedicated following and get your message out into the world more effectively. Episode 28 features Lily Allen-Duenas as our resident expert on Instagram marketing. Although this discussion is specific to Instagram, a lot of her advice can be applied to many different social media platforms. What is unique about Lily is that she has a professional background in both marketing AND fitness, which provides her a unique perspective to advise fitness and wellness professionals on how to curate content and nurture their communities online.  You'll find a number of actionable takeaways from this episode. Among the most important is how to ensure your own unique voice and message shines through in the social media world. Lily is very pragmatic about her recommendations and provides a framework through which you can approach social media that is comfortable and authentic for you as a fitness and wellness professional, but also as a human. This is a must listen for anyone looking to grow their brand and thought-leadership in the contemporary fitness and wellness space. Welcome to Episode #3 of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast! This week, I welcome Ayn Latonio onto the show. I first met Ayn in Rishikesh, India back in 2018. We were staying in the same hostel and we decided to attend a Hatha Yoga class with the renowned teacher Sri Surinder Singh at Swasti Yoga Shala. Ayn and I were fast friends, and have stayed in touch as fellow yoga practitioners on the path. Ayn is a yoga teacher in Cebu City, in the Philippines. I actually spent a month teaching yoga in Cebu myself, at Wellnessland, however Ayn was traveling outside of the Philippines and we weren't able to reconnect in his home city. In this episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe podcast, we will dive into yoga in the Philippines and learn more about Ayn's affinity for pranayama and bandhas. For a quick explanation, pranayama is the movement of energy, or our life-force, through the breath. Bandhas are energy locks, using internal muscles (either tensing or relaxing them) to control the flow of energy. As Ayn says in this podcast episode, “I started off like everyone, it was all about the asanas and strengthening and flexibility. It was all about the physical practice. So when I got introduced to bandhas, it changed my physical practice so much. It made so many postures more accessible that just going into these poses without using the bandhas and brute force— mindless efforts so to say.” What to expect in Episode #3 of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast: Asana as the gateway The relationship between asanas and bandhas Exploring different practices and methods until you find the one you resonate with The first step in finding the right teacher When the student is ready the teacher appears, when the student is truly ready the teacher disappears Yoga in the Philippines is “young,” but is growing fast and found by word of mouth Pranayama as the path to emotional control, and more control over thought and actions The power of a deep breath when it is truly deep How to radiate peace How to to breathe through stress Connect with Ayn Latonio Personal IG account: https://www.instagram.com/@Ayn_7 Vinyasa Krama IG account: https://www.instagram.com/vinyasakramaphilippines Ayn's teacher: https://instagram.com/gokulacandra Ayn's first teacher Veer: https://instagram.com/___veer___ Want more? Hemant Singh is the founder of Punyah Yoga, a leading yoga teacher training school in Rishikesh India. I first took classes with Hemant in Rishikesh in 2018, and continued to take a daily ashtanga course with him for nearly a month. I was struck by the strength of his teaching and by his presence in the shala. He has a keen eye for the tiniest details of each asana and his presence makes you know that he is always watching each infinitesimal movement you make. I certainly progressed in asana practice under his teachings. I returned to Rishikesh in 2019 and continued to take classes with Hemant, and completed an Ashtanga alignment and adjustment course with him. We have kept in great touch over the years, and I now am a yoga nidra teacher at Punyah Yoga's online teacher training courses. How about a bit of his biography? Hemant firmly believes that one has to be strongly passionate about learning yoga in order to reap and experience the benefits of the path of yoga. He has practiced under the guidance of many teachers around the world including Prahlada Ji, Yogi Kamal Singh, and Vijay Mehra Ji. He considers Yogi Kamal Singh his Guru in the journey to Ashtanga Yoga and continues to pass on his teachings through Punyah Yoga School. Hemant's classes follow the traditional Ashtanga Yoga Method, as it is taught today, with the particular emphasis on discipline being the first and foremost foundation of a Yoga practice. I was delighted to have Hemant on the Wild Yoga Tribe podcast, to share his philosophies on yoga with you all, dear listeners. What you can expect to learn from conversation with Hemant Singh on this episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe podcast: What yoga is like in India? How is yoga different in India than in the West? The many branches of yoga The relationship between the student and the guru The definition of yoga What seeking a deeper yoga path looks like Going past the body and mind connection Right time, right student, right teacher As Hemant says, “Yoga is a journey. It's very important we don't get lost in the body and mind only. We have to have one strong calling— why am I here? Who am I? What is my real purpose? Then, you can really go deeper into your own roots.” And my favorite quote of the episode— "The body and mind are rented space for the soul." If you'd like to get in touch with Hemant, you can follow him on Instagram at @hemant_singh06 If you'd like to learn more about Punyah Yoga, one of the industry-leading yoga teacher training schools in Rishikesh, you can visit Punyah Yoga's instagram account @punyahyoga Want to learn more about Punyah Yoga?
