In the last few years have you noticed a large number of LDS women starting their own businesses? Why do you think this has been happening? Coach Bonnie Wiscombe believes that it is the result of so many of them feeling a call from God to do so and use them to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ through their business endeavors. Women are pulled in many directions and starting a business can seem daunting. Many women are afraid that they are doing the right thing, that their families will suffer, or that they don't have what it takes to be successful. Veronica Colon Rosairio. Executive director of Fundacion de mujeres en Puerto Rico was founded by women in the Diaspora and within Puerto Rico, which promotes social justice and supports the economic security, safety, health, reproductive autonomy and general empowerment of women, girls and gender-fluid individuals in Puerto Rico. Why is this so important? The women and outer communities of PR have continuously been left on the margins, particularly women, since colonial times of the island and it has been a corporate tax free haven to exploit folks and keep them in poverty. Think Hawaii 2.0. After Hurricane Marie hit her home country of Puerto Rico, Veronica went back home to leverage her US top tier educational background, with an 11 year career within a Washington, DC think tank, to help rebuild the country through an ecosystem of non-profits creating an entrepreneurial environment to help communities see ownership and organizing women at the forefront to lead a new transformation of Puerto Rico. Veronica and I discuss the importance of this new leadership and a socio-economic change for women to be at the forefront due to the history of Puerto Rico and the US relationships over the years. Particularly the big corporations and Pharma which has had a long history of creating clinical trials with the first birth control pills tested on Puerto Rican Women which were hugely controversial and was also known as The Pill Trials to lead into the first testing distribution of Opioids in Puerto Rico. The history of Puerto Rican people has long been colonized by Spain and the US by creating more profits to the wealthy since the early 1900's as per this documentary we refenced call “La Operacion '' which at minute 7, is where we see the economic displacement begin of the farming communities and lower income neighborhoods, then by sterilizing women to control the populations. There is a lot to unpack in this episode, but the goal is to start discussions of our histories that are slowly being erased and how these policies of colonization, which we clearly opened our eyes to the concept through social media with Gaza and Israel, has long been a thing here in the US starting with the Indigenous populations. It's time to start healing and moving forward by learning more and advocating for those that are not resourced to live humanely. By providing women leadership and entrepreneurial skills to help rebuild communities, creates a pathways for the right investments getting to the people that need them the most, not to those who profit from the land ownerships and corporations that feed the broken policies of Puerto Rico. It's time for us, women of color and our allies, to invest in social equity that builds communities into better women's healthcare and a new economic sustainable society for future generations. For context in this episode, we referenced the Madrigal sisters which is in reference to the Madrigal ten, which was a legal case of Madrigal v. Quilligan in Los Angeles California from the 1970's challenged the forced sterilzation of latina women without their consent. But this is not anything new, and can not be forgotten, just as UnidosUS provides us with more information and context on forced sterization of Latinas here that is also happening in ICE detention centers. In the last series, “The Top 10 Reasons Women Fail to Grow Wealth”, Dr. Ekstrom detailed the limiting beliefs and typical behaviors that hinder women from creating a wealthy, abundant future. This episode, “10 Obstacles to Women Building Wealth: Accountability”, is all about the panacea to these obstacles: Accountability. Accountability is arguably the most essential piece of wealth building. But when we consider the word “accountability”, typically our mind goes to the negative. We think of critical feedback or punishment. But what if we rebranded the word? Instead of holding ourselves accountable, we held ourselves capable. If you are encouraged by all the opportunities you have to take action, you feel a sense of freedom. Having choices is powerful. When you choose accountability for yourself, it drives your decisions, which drives your habits, which drives your planning. When you're accountable to yourself, you build confidence in your abilities. You're able to tolerate more risk. Both of which are pillars of building wealth. As you accumulate inner confidence and count on yourself, you teach yourself to imagine a new reality. With imagination, you can create a new vision for your life. Though accountability is the mindset we should all strive for, there is a tendency to fall back into old, familiar patterns. For many, this pattern is a victim mindset. In this episode, Dr. Ekstrom will discuss the temptations of victimhood and how short-term comfort can prevent long-term personal, relational, and financial success. Topics Discussed: Accountability Process improvement Imagination Building confidence Being in demand Overcoming a victim mindset Drawbacks to holding yourself accountable Short-term vs. long-term success Resources: Uncommon Accountability: A Radical New Approach To Greater Success and Fulfillment Money Loves Women EP141 - 10 Reasons Women Fail to Grow Wealth - Part #3, with Dr. Deborah Ekstrom Money Loves Women EP140 - 10 Reasons Women Fail to Grow Wealth – Part #2, with Dr. Deborah Ekstrom Money Loves Women EP139 - 10 Reasons Women Fail to Grow Wealth – Part #1, with Dr. Deborah Ekstrom For more information on how to achieve financial freedom, personal mastery, and professional success, please visit https://moneyloveswomen.com/.

In an article entitled “Women are underrepresented in CRE – Here's how we change it” the author notes “while 64% of all residential realtors are women, in CRE (commercial real estate), that number is roughly 36.7%. Zippia.com, which tracks real estate developer demographics, the numbers further show that amongst developers, women represent 33% versus 67% for men. And, that Black or African American developers represent roughly 9% of all developers. And these numbers are significantly lower for Southern California. Herrin Hopper and Holly Harper met in 2015 when their kids were in the same preschool program on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Through normal socializing with other parents, somehow six moms - all married and all living in the same 10-block radius - became friends. Sometime in 2016, Holly disclosed to Herrin that her marriage was in BIG trouble. Infidelity. Anxiety. Depression. At the same time, Herrin was working through her own marriage troubles, but from a different perspective and approach. They began to grow closer together as they navigated this time, offering one another advice and just friendship. When Holly's marriage finally ended in 2018 - Herrin was there for her through the worst of it. Six months later, she and her husband decided to separate as well. By the fall of 2019, both were living in fancy schmancy high-rise apartments on H Street NE in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, trying to get used to the "new normal." By early 2020, both were starting to consider their next home buying journey. Over a game of Bogle, they decided to look for a duplex. When Hurricanes Irma and María made landfall in Puerto Rico in September 2017, their destructive force further devastated an archipelago already pommeled by economic austerity, political upheaval, and environmental calamities. To navigate these ongoing multiple crises, Afro-Puerto Rican women have drawn from their cultural knowledge to engage in daily improvisations that enable their communities to survive and thrive. Their life-affirming practices, developed and passed down through generations, offer powerful modes of resistance to gendered and racialized exploitation, ecological ruination, and deepening capitalist extraction. Through solidarity, reciprocity, and an ethics of care, these women create restorative alternatives to dispossession to produce good, meaningful lives for their communities. Making Livable Worlds: Afro-Puerto Rican Women Building Environmental Justice (University of Washington Press, 2021) weaves together autobiography, ethnography, interviews, memories, and fieldwork to recast narratives that continuously erase Black Puerto Rican women as agents of social change. In doing so, Lloréns serves as an "ethnographer of home" as she brings to life the powerful histories and testimonies of a marginalized, disavowed community that has been treated as disposable.
