What if the real glow-up in midlife has nothing to do with wrinkle creams—and everything to do with finally showing up unapologetically as yourself?Meet Sherri Dindal, better known as The Real Slim Sherri—the blue-haired, tattooed, profanity-positive powerhouse who's become a viral voice for women over 40. With over 5 million followers, Sherri's raw, hilarious, and brutally honest takes on menopause, midlife identity shifts, and societal invisibility have struck a nerve—and built a movement. After 26 years in a male-dominated investigative career, Sherri walked away with no backup plan. What followed? A wildly successful boutique, a clean skincare brand tailored for menopausal skin (Wholesome Hippie), and an accidental TikTok empire born out of a post-COVID haze. Oh—and now she's headlining sold-out comedy shows across the country on her Gen X Takeover Tour. She never planned this life. She never thought she was funny. And she definitely never expected midlife to be the beginning of everything. From parenting through “second puberty” (ahem, menopause), to the sacred ritual of quiet mornings with coffee, Sherri's message is refreshingly clear:

Dr. Chantrise Sims Holliman is an award-winning educator, author, and speaker in the areas of resilience, creativity, and flexible thinking. Rachel Griffiths says she just got through her "peak mid-hell years" and she's here to tell us how. The actor, producer, and director has had many eras - from the "fast start" of Muriel's Wedding to being a Hollywood awards darling, a big-deal US TV star, the director of the Australian classic movie Ride Like A Girl, the co-creator of Total Control and now, the star of the TV show Madam. Through all that, she was also wrestling with the relatable MID dramas - parenting teens and young adults, a diagnosis that made sense of so much, caring for ageing relatives and trying to keep a long-term marriage going. No wonder, as she tells host Holly Wainwright, she and her husband needed a sabbatical. This conversation also veers off into ageing, the Hollywood stars Rachel used to envy but no longer does, how to stay optimistic in a tumultuous world and the relief of finding out she's "ADHD AF". Gen X can be funny about food. A lot of us were raised on a diet of Kate Moss, cigarettes and coffee. We were happy to talk openly about skipping meals, cutting carbs, and cabbage soup cleanses. We swam in a sea of celebrity diet tips, fads and…shame. In today's episode of MID, Holly is talking about food and the absolute necessity of small joys with Virginia Trioli. Virginia Trioli is one of the most highly-regarded journalists and broadcasters in Australia. She's a two-time Walkley Award winner, and her voice, on radio, on television has lent authority and comfort to some of the most difficult moments we've lived through as a nation. And this has given her a lot to say about…joy. That's what her new book, A Bit On The Side, is about. Because for her - and for Holly - food is part of that joy. And allowing ourselves to lean into the small pleasures that make a life, without guilt or shame, is a radical act, really. Particularly for women, when we have been taught that self-sacrifice and deprivation are our life's lot. So please feast on this conversation between Holly and Virginia - talking about food, love, and hard-fought parenthood and step-parenthood and losing your parents and wisdom and age and work and friendship and pleasure and letting go - and those times when you just have to… grow up, apologise and eat a shit sandwich. As a driven entrepreneur, you likely pride yourself on being self-reliant and handling everything on your own. Yet, deep down, you know that to grow your business and thrive, you need to lean on your team more. In this episode of Leadership is Feminine, host Kris Plachy explores the challenge many Gen X women entrepreneurs face: asking for and accepting support. Raised with a strong sense of independence, you might struggle to delegate, and when others fall short, it's tempting to just do it yourself. But what if, instead of rescuing everyone, you could guide them—and in the process, free up your own time and energy? Kris shares her strategies on maintaining emotional balance when dealing with disappointments, and how to guide others through their errors, instead of rescuing them. She encourages us to assess situations pragmatically, rather than letting our emotional tolerance dictate our response to setbacks. As you tune into this episode, discover a new leadership mindset that fosters support, maturity and growth. You won't want to miss out on Kris's guidance on how to accept and cultivate support and step out of managing and into leading, as the visionary you are. “‘No one can do it better than me.' That is the most painful lie you're telling yourself. And who cares if they can't do it better than you or as well as you? You know what they can do? They can do it well, and they can do it well based on their brain, as long as your results are specific.” Key Takeaways From This Episode Understanding Gen X Female Entrepreneurs: The struggle to accept help due to the innate need for independence. The Problem with Self-Reliance: The high bar set for others while simultaneously experiencing exhaustion of trying to do it all. Allowing Employees to Make Mistakes: Understanding that employees will inevitably make mistakes, taking on their responsibilities will not make it any easier. Managing Emotional Response to Mistakes: The need for flexible thinking and being able to objectively assess problems. Leading through Others' Mistakes: The need for leaders to guide their employees through the resolution process of their mistakes rather than fixing it themselves To Listen to the Gen-X Women Founders Mini Series Part 1: “GenX Women Founders: A Generation of Leaders that is Changing the World” Part 2: “The Sandwich Generation: How Gen X Women Balance Business, Family, and Aging Parent” Part 3: “GenX Women Founders: Confronting Imposter Syndrome in Gen X Women's Leadership” Part 4: “Gen X Women Founders: How Can WE of All Women on the Planet, Be Afraid of Change?” Part 5: “Gen X Women Founders: Our Collective Emotional Load” Contact Information and Recommended Resources Get Access to LEAD LESSONS Lead for Women is now open for advanced registration! Your relationship with your body might be the most complicated one you'll ever have. So says comedian and podcaster Helen Thorn. And she'd know. Helen has been performing onstage in a skin-tight gold spandex catsuit for years, at all sizes and shapes, as one half of the Scummy Mummies comedy duo. She says that she always felt "f*cking powerful" in it, and laughed off the patronising head tilts of those who declared her "brave". But when Helen found out her husband was cheating on her, upended her marriage and headed into lockdown with a broken heart, her relationship with her body began to shift. This is a story not about losing weight, but about a 'midlife' woman discovering her strength in every sense. What happens to your life, your health, your friendships when you go from living on wine and take-out to running marathons and lifting very heavy things? Well, as it turns out: a lot. Here you are shopping at Target or your favorite store and you have a list of items you need. Laundry detergent, toothpaste, paper towels, ketchup, and mascara.I would guess you go down each of those aisles knowing what you're getting. When I say that, I mean the brand you are buying. Mine…Tide, Toms, UpandUp brand, Heinz, Benefit.Generation X is the most loyal generation and brands like these, are benefitting wildly. They are thrilled you've been using the toothpaste for six years and don't actually look to explore new options on the market. There are pluses and minuses to this for you as a consumer but where it really hurts you is when your blind loyalty spills into your career. We find ourselves loyal to the organization, to the team we work with or even to our boss. Is this loyalty a good thing for us? This week we are exploring the pitfalls of misplaced loyalty. Are you a Modern Gen X Woman? Get the Modern Gen X Woman Manifesto.Send Me the Manifesto! In this episode, we're talking about…How our parents' and grandparents' influence made us reluctant to job hop, supporting the story to stay and be loyalHow gendered ageism plays into our career movesWhat we really owe our employer, and I will say, it is not a certain amount of time with the company. Why loyalty is good for companies but not for us - we are so much less expensive than outside talent and the longer we stay the bigger the pay gap becomes for us and the industry average. How we tie up our identity into our job and it all reflects on our self-worth (we are much more than our title) Why we must push through the discomfort of change because it is the only way we growHow being too loyal can hurt our perceptionWhy corporate loyalty never goes both ways, just ask long-term employees at Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Salesforce and Amazon.Mentioned in this episode: Fredi Pars on TikTok (our stupid obsession!) From the moment we're born, societal expectations begin to shape our thoughts and beliefs about how we are supposed to show up in the world. We're encouraged to suppress our voices, not to take up too much space and to keep our ideas to ourselves. This week, Mimi and I are going to uncover the hidden truths around the Good Girl Epidemic, explore how it impacted us as young girls, and how, even today, those beliefs can rear its head in the most inopportune times, holding us back and sometimes keeping us stuck. Are you a Modern Gen X Woman? We know women are the far superior species. The world would LITERALLY cease to exist without us. While I find myself smiling wide when I say that, this isn't just my beliefs.. The research is in, women are better leaders. Here's a stat that will blow your mind. Of the S&P 500, there are 459 male CEOs and 41 female CEOs. The companies that have women as CEOs have significantly outperformed the companies run by men. Over the past 10 years, the difference in returns is 384% from female-led companies vs. 261% from male-led companiesAcross the board, women outperform men on all (or most depending on the research) leadership measures. As woman leaders, we must trust ourselves and lean into our inherent feminine traits. This means throwing away the masculine energy many of us thought we had to take on in order to be an effective leader. Hint, those traits don't work.Tomorrow's leaders need to embrace and lead with female traits. Listen up as we talk all about Leading like a Woman. Are you a Modern Gen X Woman? Get the Modern Gen X Woman Manifesto. Send Me the Manifesto! In this episode, we're talking about…Why we need to stop trying to take on the leadership traits we've learned through osmosis from men and instead, lean in and trust our own instincts and leadership style. Recognizing to take on male energy will not support our growthWhy women have a greater sense of EQ than men How collaboration, communication, and inclusion are a superpower and needed more than ever Women outperform men in more than the “soft skills” – we outperform them in initiative, resilience, driving results, inspiring others, coaching others, bold leadership, relationships, creativity, honesty, transformation, leading change, and innovationThe neuroscience of women managing stress better than men “Soft-skills are the emerging superpowers of business.—Gary Vaynerchuk”DO THIS ONE THING: ASK SOMEONE ON YOUR TEAM OR AT WORK, WHAT ARE TWO QUALITIES THAT MAKE YOU A GREAT LEADER. It's the short version of my personal journey of embracing body positivity and aging, something I feel has happened rather rapidly lately - the aging part. It's important to acknowledge both the ups and downs of feeling good about ourselves, and I want to encourage you to share your own insights and struggles after you listen. You can contact me at JenHardy.net any time. Let me know if aging is easy or difficult for you. Or, like me, you've got a mix of both. We're also talking about how being fabulous is not just about material possessions, money, or plastic surgery (can't do it) but it's a state of mind. You'll journey with me as I check out and adjust lighting for video recording to avoid unflattering angles. Not sure how I feel about all that, but we've gone & shared it! And I'm so happy to announce my new project called "Jen's Friends", where I'll be sending daily video emails to encourage others dealing with loneliness. You can find info about that on the website here. Thank you for joining me today! I'm having a blast creating Fabulous Over 50 & it would be an honor to have you share it with someone who would enjoy it. Thank you! Want more? Go to the website and you'll find many ways to live your best life over 50! I'd love to hear what you think about this episode, and what you'd like to hear about in the future. Send me a message HERE. Have a blessed week, Jen Want to connect on social? You can find me in the following places: Facebook Instagram LinkedIn
Courageous leadership isn't about how you show up as a boss. Courageous leadership is how you show up to buck the trends, against the odds and fight for what you believe in. It's about paving the way for those who aren't as courageous as you are and maybe, just maybe, getting others to see they too can step into their courage. To lead and fully experience both work and life in any way, takes courage. In this week's episode we're going to explore what courageous leadership looks like in both work and life. In this episode we're talking about…Our own personal takes on courage and leadership How courageous leadership isn't limited to professional settings Why leadership in itself takes courage Leading when you don't have power and how we must use courage against our vulnerability How courage feels and the difference between danger versus discomfort The courage to get back up after a failure and the courage to do something without perfection The concept of courage thresholds and how they can vary from person to person How to step into your courage Want to connect with other Modern Gen X Women? Jess B bumped into Skylar Liberty Rose, a midlife coach for the introverted woman, on Instagram when she ran across her video calling out age and body shamers for their hypocrisy when Madonna was under fire for going back on tour well into her 60's. (https://www.instagram.com/p/CoFJ5rKP0Tn/)She immediately shared the video with JessK and here they are- and it is a GREAT conversation.Skylar has so much to offer her GenX sisters on the topic of anti-aging and body image as a women's empowerment coach in her later 40's. She is committed to transparency and honesty, as well as compassion, to herself (and others) when she feels less than on the outside. She offers so much insight and some helpful tools on how to navigate these moments for those of us struggling to lover our ever changing bellies and faces.Such an important conversation and one that every woman in midlife needs to tune in for.Click here to learn more about Skylar Liberty Rose and her work. Thanks to our sponsors for this week!Lyssa SewardSupport the show
My mind is not what it once was and I know it. I struggle to admit it to myself because I used to be able to decipher a million things thrown at me at once…or at least I thought I did. In actuality, I didn't because most of us can't. We, as humans, intake so much information in any given day, hour or minute. Our brains work hard to weed through all the stimuli we receive and capture what we need. This can leave a lot of important information on the table. What if you are the one delivering the information? If you are doing anything from leading a meeting, to presenting to a room full of people, marketing your capabilities or doing online training, you want to ensure your message lands. In this episode we're going to teach you the incredible impact “3” can make to influence others. In this episode we're talking about…Research shows how much more impactful statements can be in threesOur brain remembers, absorbs and processes in patterns and three is the smallest patter we can createWith so much info thrown at us why we can't store much in our short-term memory and people only remember 10% of what they hear. Repeating it makes impact statements will help people remember what you wantThe power of threes in presentations and interviews The power of threes in marketing and sales Using the power of threes to be memorable and persuasive WORTH IT Have you stopped believing in yourself? When you've decided you're sick of feeling unmotivated, stuck, and frustrated—it's time to join us for WORTH IT. Did you know that research shows that 92% of people do not keep their new year's resolutions or goals? What if you could find a way to be part of the 8% who see success pursuing their lifestyle and financial goals? With this data in mind, Jackie Ghedine and Mimi Bishop launched their firm, The Resting Mind, to help gen X women who are struggling to define themselves personally and professionally. They developed the 8% rule of taking small steps to help women determine who they want to be, where they want to go, and how to get there. Both Jackie and Mimi left behind high-profile corporate roles to launch their firm. A life transition that started with reflecting on an Oprah Winfrey article that helped them discover that they wanted to help bridge the worth deficit gap that women are facing. Jackie and Mimi have developed a unique approach to utilizing energy leadership and positive psychology to help propel gen X women. They take an investigated approach that empowers women to ask for help, to help them realize they are not alone and do so with confidence and conviction. Please enjoy my conversation with Jackie Ghedine and Mimi Bishop. For show notes and resources discussed in this episode, visit https://tammacapital.com/42-gen-x-women/. The Grammy's really struck a nerve in me. We were traveling for business and missed them and instead of seeing news dropping about the music, the performances, and the winners, my news feed was blowing up with negative, nasty comments about the work Madonna had done. It stopped us in our tracks and we rearranged all of our podcasts to quickly produce this one. We have to address what is going on here.Madonna crucified for the work she had done.Paulina Porizkova destroyed for not having work done and her too skinny ‘wrinkled' body.Ashley Judd being obliterated for her weight gain.WTF? Let's dig in because we are pissed! We're having a party and YOU are invited. Join us on Wednesday, March 8th at 5pm EST for the launch party in celebration of our annual digital magazine GEN neXt: The Voice of the Modern Gen X Woman. www.moderngenxwoman.com/partyIn this episode we're talking about…Why when women step in and destroy other women it takes things to an entirely new height Who are we to judge other people and what is right for them Why women can't win at any age…. No mater what we do we seem to be judged and ranked based on some unknown metric for beauty How we can start to stop the commonplace ageist commentary that is not unacceptable Being aware of our own contribution to this discussion and our own unconscious bias If you see something, say something. We don't have to sit idly by while these things are happeningBeing comfortable in your skin and not giving an F about what anyone says or thinks “Aging is a really, really inimate educator on loving yourself. Get the Modern Gen X Woman Manifesto. Send Me the Manifesto! How we tie up our identity into our job and it all reflects on our self-worth (we are much more than our title) Why we must push through the discomfort of change because it is the only way we growHow being too loyal can hurt our perceptionWhy corporate loyalty never goes both ways, just ask long-term employees at Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Salesforce and Amazon.Mentioned in this episode: Fredi Pars on TikTok (our stupid obsession!) ill communication: copywriting tips & sales strategies for small businesses
Today, I'm getting on my soapbox. They call us the Slacker Generation. The Forgotten or Lost Generation. The Latchkey Generation. But I like to think that we are the generation that had the best and possibly the highest hair. We are Gen X. In this episode of ill communication, I'm talking about the generation that's largely left out of marketing and advertising campaigns. So if you want some insights into an untapped economic power and marketing opportunity, this episode is for you. The truth is, this generation hasn't really been invited to the table in the same way that the Boomers and Millennials have. If you haven't considered marketing to Gen X women, you're missing a huge opportunity. This generation of women is amazing, and we make incredible entrepreneurs. Tune in to learn more about the potential for tapping into the Gen X market with your marketing and advertising materials. It was the publicity photo that filled me with rage. In it, star reporters, Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, stand like bookends around actors, Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan, who are leaning on a ladder. I've got nothing against ladders or any of the people involved but still the photo made me mad. Here we have two of our Gen X heroes, two women who heroically chased down a thorny story, putting themselves at risk and for no reason at all, other than “Hollywood” they are being portrayed by two younger fresher faced women. It's not as if this story happened twenty years ago so they need to demonstrate younger selves. These events took place in 2017. It's not like they're ancient history. Why are we looking at women in their 30s when it was women in their 40s who broke this story? To read more of Can Gen X Women Play Gen X Women Please? visit the Songs for the Struggling Artist blog. For as long as there has been a world, men have ruled it. I am going to just say this, without apology, ‘how is that working out for us so far?'To kick off the New Year, we aren't going to be talking about resolutions, sticking to your goals or creating a plan. We aren't going to be talking about word of the year or how to pick your North Star.Instead, we are kicking off the very first episode of 2023 differently. Listen up as we explore the world, how it is today and what it could look like if women, or shall I say, Gen X Woman, ruled the world. Are you underpaid? Is your lack of visibility hurting your ability to ask for the money you deserve? You can now stand out, be seen and unapologetically ask for what you're worth. Would midlife be midlife? Would we need to redefine aging? Would we redefine 50? Such a fun topic.
