A man sits alone in his worn-out armchair, the flicker of a TV casting shadows across the room. Then, out of nowhere, a spark—no warning, no flame, just a sudden, impossible heat. In minutes, he's gone, reduced to ash, while the chair beneath him barely smolders. They call it spontaneous human combustion, a mystery that creeps into the edges of our understanding, leaving behind questions that itch at the back of your mind. How does a body burn so hot, so fast, with no source, no fuel, no mercy? Now imagine the stories—hundreds of them, whispered over decades. A woman found in her kitchen, nothing but a pile of soot and a single unburned foot, the stove cold as stone. A farmer in his field, charred to nothing while the grass around him stays green. No screams, no smoke, just silence and a lingering smell of something wrong. Scientists scramble for answers—chemical reactions, freak accidents—but the truth slips through their fingers like ash in the wind. Tonight, we're diving into that darkness, peeling back the layers of this eerie riddle. What ignites a person from the inside out? We'll see you on the inside. You come for the dessert, and stay for the meal. That's been echoed in Gentry for over 20 years when talking about the Wooden Spoon. Cam and Jane Klassen started the restaurant 20+ years ago, in their mind, as sort of an obligation- you'll hear that story. You'll also hear about the building that the restaurant's in. Part of it came a VERY long way. Cam tells us that story. 4 years ago, Justin and Emily Allen bought the Wooden Spoon from the Klassens. The Allens had no restaurant background, but it didn't much matter at the time. You'll hear the story about the transition, and the emotion involved once the wheels started to turn. We talk to Justin and Emily Allen, as well as Cam and Jane Klassen about one of our region's favorites, the Wooden Spoon, and that's next right here on the Flavors of Northwest Arkansas.
Whether it's representing the LGBTQ+ community as an officer with Keighley Cougars or playing himself in any free hour he's got, Johnathan Zemlik is someone who lives and breathes rugby. He's run out for Leeds Hunters, Ossett RUFC, York Barbarians and a whole host of other clubs – and this summer, he'll even be a key part of the world's longest-ever rugby union match for the charities Looseheadz and Wooden Spoon, which both do amazing work in the game. So, when he said he wanted to come onto the podcast to shout about that – and so much more! – we were always going to say ‘yes'. This is a fascinating conversation with someone who lives and breathes rugby, but who didn't actually get into the sport into relatively late – and it feels like he's been making up for lost time ever since! It's a conversation with some exciting announcements, some touching revelations, and a chat with a really genuine man who has discovered his tribe in rugby and is now dedicated to having others do the same. It's just a brilliant chat with someone who embodies what grassroots sport is all about, and we think you'll really love this chat with Johnathan today! Claire Elaine from Wooden Petal Bake Shop in Santa Rosa, joins Harry Duke and Herlinda Heras on Brew Ha Ha today. Brew Ha Ha is a double show and podcast today. Also in the studio is Raena Jones-Metzger from Rio Nido Roadhouse. Occasionally, if we have two guests on one radio show, we make two podcasts from the live show, so that each guest can have their own podcast audio and a sharable (and indexable) web page of their own episode. The Rio Nido Roadhouse podcast episode page is over here. Claire describes her day in the bake shop which begins at 3:30 or 4:00 making dough and then sandwiches from her pretzel buns. Wooden Petal is a name that Claire came up with, based on her grandmother's catering company Wooden Spoon. Also, she was “an English granny” and used to call Elaine Petal, hence Wooden Petal. She and her partner built their shop a couple of years ago, from scratch. They had to re-permit the location to serve food. Moonlight Brewing Co. is where she did her first pop-up selling pretzels. Wooden Petal is at 4984 Sonoma Hwy. near Middle Rincon Rd. They are open 7am to 1 pm. Pretzel Buns Make Great Sandwiches Wooden Petal's pretzel buns make great sandwiches. Turkey or Salami with chive butter, with cheddar is called the You Betcha. The East Coaster is a classic deli sandwich with mayo mustard and cheddar, and the Valencia has fresh mozzarella, pesto and house tapenade. Russian River Brewing Co. is open in Santa Rosa on 4th St. and at their big Windsor location. Visit their website for up-to-date hours, menus, beers and more. Tomorrow, Friday Sept. 27, (as we are live on Thursday Sept. 26) Wooden Petal debuts the Meatball Grinder, which is meatballs, ricotta and parmesan, on a pretzel bun. Claire and Wooden Petal Bake Shop were featured in the Press Democrat recently, here is the article. See our sponsor Victory House at Poppy Bank Epicenter online, for their latest viewing and menu options. Claire suggests ordering ahead online, or by phone. Her original idea was that pretzels would be popular in Beer City. At first, she started by doing pop-ups, and the response was always great because her pretzels always fit into the events where she appears. She is very proud of having a lot of loyal local customers.
Sue and Kendra learned something new about David: When he answers the front door, he brings with him... a wooden spoon. Why, you ask? Good question...........

The Wests Tigers managed to make a meal of 'Spoonbowl' 2024, but we think most of our fellow fans weren't overly surprised. With a chance to discard the Wooden Spoon, Wests Tigers put in one of their worst performances of the year to go down 60-26 against the Eels. But does it matter if you finish 16th or 17th? Wests Tigers 2025 recruit Jack Bird (though still not confirmed as a signing by the club at the time of writing) has said missing the finals is a failure and worrying about positions from there is pointless. We start this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast with a debate about Jack's position on table positions for non-semi-final teams, and look at whether it really matters if we have the spoon three-peat. Also on the agenda, how do we fix our defense in 2025? After conceding a massive 750 points this year, is John Morris the man to turn this around? Speaking of recruits, we also discuss the probable recruitment of Warrior's winger, Marcelo Montoya, and look at who else might be heading our way for a new-look side next year. There's a whole stack of 'One Word' submissions from the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum, including submissions looking to sum up the 2024 season with just a single word. We're slowly packing up and moving on from season 2024 with an increasing view towards a hopefully much more enjoyable 2025!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In a special edition of Woodsy's Club Tour, Woodsy previews the 'Spoon Bowl' with Tigers legend Chris Lawrence and Eels legend Tim Mannah. How good is it!? A post-victory edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast! The Wests Tigers registered their fifth win of the 2024 season on Saturday night at Campbelltown with a two-point triumph over the Rabbitohs. Aside from beating Souths, a great thing at any time, the win lifts the team one win ahead of the totals recorded in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. It also keeps some hope alive that we might be able to hand that dreaded Wooden Spoon to another arch-rival, Parramatta. In this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Nick Hayes and Garry Watson to review the game, particularly the performances of some of the individual Wests Tigers players. This includes a look at the quite raw, but still quite promising fullback, Heath Mason. A stack of one-word submissions from the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum also features, and these range from 'Confused' to 'Relief' and everything in between! We take a look at two things that might affect the 2025 Wests Tigers team, firstly, the importance of beating Souths and thus ending a losing streak that we didn't want to take into the new season. Secondly, our new recruit Jerome Luai has a big challenge ahead at Penrith over the next six weeks, how will what happens to the Panthers in the finals affect our side when he lands at Concord in November? It's so good to be talking about a Wests Tigers win and we hope that means you really enjoy this much lighter and brighter edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Talking about life in Alaska, some discussion about kitchen utensils, some cross country, of course, and a whole lot of yapping with our special guest, George Yates.
The turnover of hosts matches the turnover of Wests Tigers Players on this week's mid-week edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast. Eddie is joined by Garry and special guest host Jordan to discuss the latest news from the Wests Tigers. There is no shortage of news this week with the boys taking on the rumours surrounding Stefano Utoikamanu's ongoing contract negotiations, the will he won't he negotiations surely must end soon and the team give their thoughts on the situation. John Bateman is also rumoured to be leaving the club for the remainder of the season, only to return for the start of next season so this provides plenty of discussion points to digest. The Wests Tigers take on the Warriors in New Zealand on Friday night so there is a preview of this important game if the Tigers are to avoid the Wooden Spoon for a 3rd straight year. Yioti's quiz closes out the show as the boys attempt to pass the trivia test. Thank you for joining us for the Wests Tigers Podcast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Alan is joined by Tim and DJ to recap the Fire's recent trip to Seattle. First, the guys discuss the Fire's pipeline and which players may be moving up, down or out as the youngsters look for minutes and the first team looks for reinforcements. How will Teran's injury impact the first team? The Union visit Chicago as the Fire find themselves languishing in Wooden Spoon contention. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mir97/support
On this episode of Bats and Balls Podcast, The Producer & Josh go over what has been happening in the NRL, Supercoach, AFL and discuss if it's the death of Monaco. The NRL just completed Round 16 with The Storm still sitting on top of the Ladder. Manly after defeating the Dragons dropped the belt to the NEW Bats and Balls Champions the South Sydney Rabbitohs. The Eels had the bye and were still able to drop 4 places into last position. Mitchell Moses will need to bring is NSW form to save the Eels from the Wooden Spoon. Speaking of NSW, the Blues destroyed the Queenslanders in a Mitchell Moses master class. Bring on Game 3. AFL and the Sydney Swans just keep winning. The Swans took down local rivals the GWS Giants. Geelong had and bad loss to Carlton while the Lion smashed Port Adelaide. West Coast were brave but wayward kicking in the first half stopped them getting the win against Essendon. Supercoach we just got through the second of the three major bye rounds. How many trades do you have left. The team goes through Bats and Balls Cup and Mug results before talking about the trades they will be making this week. Do not forget to join our NRL and AFL Tipping competitions. S3E25 - For the Glory KC is back with the 90th episode of the show! Things get weird as we recorded waaay after dark. Sporting Kansas City had another rough week. So much, that my co-host preferred we "just get it over with" on Saturday night versus waiting to do a podcast on Sunday. Despite that, we have a lot of thoughts about the losses to Real Salt Lake and the Columbus Crew. I'd like to think it was more about the catharsis of getting some of these thoughts out, while they are fresh in our minds. For a deeper tactical breakdown, check out the Home and Away podcast. Amazingly, it's not all bad. For years we've criticized when SKC just did the same thing over and over and expected different results. At least they tried some things. There were massive lineup changes in both games including rolling out a 3-4-3/5-4-1 against the Crew. Andreu Fontas seemingly got benched (until an injury). Kayden Pierre made consecutive starts at right back (and may have broken a bone). Both goalkeepers got starts, allowed four goals, and stunningly were some of the better players in those games. Young players got extensive minutes at forward too. This episode has some venting. It has some rants. It even has a bit of a plan for what we'd like to see from Sporting KC for the rest of 2024, since ownership made it clear Peter Vermes is safe. We also had to learn a little bit about the Keepers of the Spoon. Sporting KC are dangerously close to the bottom of the table and fans will probably need to read up on how that Wooden Spoon 'trophy' works. Is it a trophy? Is there more than one of them? Gareth, Philippa Tuttiett and Siwan Lillicrap react to Wales' 22-20 victory over Italy.
Lauren Jenkins, Alex Cuthbert and Philippa Tuttiett reflect on Wales' loss to France which means a wooden spoon decider against Italy on Saturday. They also discuss the URC and a big win for Ospreys in South Africa. Got a question for the podcast? Send them in to scrumv@bbc.co.uk.
What's left to say about the Sounders' start? After falling 1-0 to the LA Galaxy, they are now 0-3-2 and sitting in last place in the Western Conference and just one point ahead of the New England Revolution in the Wooden Spoon race. They've now tied their franchise record for worst-ever start. I think they looked better on Saturday than they in possibly any other game, but that's as much of an indictment of how bad they've been this year than a genuinely positive statement about their play. I'm not going to sit here and say I think that the team is broken or won't improve, but I also don't think we can simply take that as a given. They're in the midst of what seems like a pretty soft part of their schedule and it's concerning that they can't pull out better results, regardless of how many injured players they have. That's really the most frustrating thing. This team has enough talent on the field to be a better team, but right now they're undeniably bad.
