“Lyme keeps you in a metabolic state of winter,” says Timothy Hammond of Lyme disease, which host Meredith Oke describes as the “apex predator of our time.” While working as an intelligence analyst for the military as well as major organizations and firms, Timothy developed a debilitating case of Lyme. After both pharmaceutical and naturopathic modalities failed to treat it and destroyed his microbiome, he set out to understand the environmental factors–namely light, water and magnetism—which are so crucial to our health and healing. On today's episode of the Quantum Biology Collective podcast, Timothy explains why the answer lay not at the biochemical level but at the biophysical level. He shares his four pillars to achieving cellular coherence, why the oft-maligned reactive oxygen species are essential to our health, and how foreign EMFs have the same effects as Lyme. He also shares how we can guard ourselves against media manipulation and navigate the series of conflicting narratives all around us. Learn how Timothy is helping others to optimize their quantum health with his company Regenerint and how to access complimentary materials. Quotes “Any centralized system is ultimately vulnerable to corruption because of these single points of failure. In the quantum biology space, one of the beauties of it is that this is decentralized. You don't need to go through any centralized authority or intermediary to go out and reconnect with nature and experience the healing benefits of that.” (24:49 | Timothy Hammond) “I think the isolation from society is part of the worst aspect of any chronic illness.” (35:25 | Timothy Hammond) “It was the same error of thinking in that instead of throwing tons and tons of pharmaceutical medications at my body, they were throwing tons and tons of herbs and supplements…it's the same mentality of something from the outside having to be inserted in rather than examining what environmental conditions are needed to activate the body's innate healing capacity and innate healing intelligence.” (36:32 | Timothy Hammond) “These biochemical models, which involved the pharmaceutical approach, the allopathic approach, the naturopathic approach, were all working on the level of biochemistry…so this connection with nature led me to explore biophysics, which is a more fundamental layer upon which biochemistry is built…it doesn't matter how hard you're working on the biochemical piece. If your light, water, and magnetism environmental inputs are wrong, you're not going to have the success you're looking for.” (38:48 | Timothy Hammond) Links Connect with Timothy Hammond: Website: regenerint.com Full bio: www.timothyghammond.com Socials: @regenerint on Instagram, X, and Facebook Bon Charge Discount Code: at checkout enter: QBC to receive 15% off https://us.boncharge.com/collections/blue-light-blocking-glasses **If you're in the US and have a Health Savings Account (HSA or FSA) BonCharge products are an eligible expense** To receive a FREE infographic of the Ideal Circadian Day & join our email list: https://www.quantumbiologycollective.com/qbc-newsletter-aqb To find a practitioner who understands quantum biology: www.quantumbiologycollective.org To see details about the Applied Quantum Certification: www.appliedquantumbiology.com Follow on Instagram & Facebook: @quantumbiologycollecitve Twitter: @quantumhealthtv Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm
The transition from solopreneur to CEO is never easy. It can be hard to let go of control and trust your team to deliver an ROI. Today's guest shares how you can break through that 6-figure plateau and set your team up for million-dollar success with a sales-focused marketing strategy. Victoria Hajjar, founder of Ugli Ventures, helps female-founded startups scale from 6 to 7 figures. She specializes in the sales and marketing strategies, team building, and leadership development they need to build profitable 7-figure enterprises. Her clients have had million-dollar months, been featured on Forbes 40 under 40, and several have passed the billion-dollar revenue mark. How to Build an ROI-Driven Team Victoria uses a 4-step process to help her clients transition into an executive role. The first step is brand clarity: getting focused (or re-focused) on your messaging, ideal client, and positioning. Before you can build a successful marketing strategy, you need to be clear on your ideal client's pain points and the transformation you provide. The next step is a sales-focused marketing strategy. Victoria recommends a 24/7 content flywheel that speaks to all six stages of the customer journey. Once you have a funnel in place, measure the performance of each piece. Look at your conversion rates to determine where the leaks are, then optimize accordingly. Once you've optimized your funnel, evaluate your team. If conversions are low in a particular area, it could be because the person assigned to that task isn't an expert. A common hiring mistake is expecting each person to do multiple jobs. If you can't afford to have more employees on retainer, hire an independent contractor with a proven track record. For example, if your website conversions are low, hire a user experience expert to solve the issue on a project basis. The last step is leadership. Are the right people in the right seats, and are you managing them well? Each team member should know which metrics they're responsible for and bring ideas for improvement. 3 Essential Marketing Meetings Even if your team is mostly independent contractors, you should still include them in your quarterly planning meetings. This keeps everyone on the same page as you move toward your goals. You should also meet weekly to review your marketing scorecard. Let each team member report their own metrics and offer feedback and ideas. Regular communication eliminates silos within your company. Lastly, take the time to sit down monthly or quarterly with key people on your team. Ask them to tell you about what's going on in their life, the challenges they're facing, their career path, and any resources or training they might need. Investing time in your team pays off in long-term loyalty. Enjoy this episode with founder Victoria Hajjar… Soundbytes 4:01-4:30 “I bring a fresh perspective because I've been inside so many people's businesses over my 15-year career. Not only inside different businesses but also in different countries around the world. I've worked in China, I've worked in Mexico, I've worked in Dubai, and the UK…and what's been really great is figuring out this universal approach. How do you grow and scale a business using marketing as the catapult for growth?” 7:32-7:51 “We have to make a transition. And the transition is from doing everything ourselves and feeling like we have to execute everything ourselves, especially when it comes to marketing and sales, and beginning to take that path towards stepping into the leadership role in your business.” 21:47-22:08 “Building your team doesn't mean that you need to get a bunch of employees and have a ton of people on retainer, but you have to systematically, in an intelligent way, invest in the growth of your business. That means getting people in who have proven track records that really know what they're doing in particular areas.” Quotes “Any business can use marketing as a catapult for growth, it just depends how the business is setup.” “Once our time, money, energy, and budget gets split across different efforts, that's where we also tend to see that dip in performance.” “Even if you don't consider yourself a leader, you are. Your team is looking to you.” “So many of us as business owners, but especially women, we think that someone will like us more if we're in the trenches with them, instead of as a leader.” “You're not going to build a million-dollar business, a 7- or 8-figure business, by being too nice.” Links mentioned in this episode: Ugli Ventures: http://www.ugliventures.com Connect with Victoria on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/victoria-hajjar/ 24/7 Marketing Flywheel resource: https://www.ugliventures.com/overwhelm Learn more about Victoria's accelerator program: https://www.ugliventures.com/accelerator

Explore how hormonal shifts in midlife affect your metabolism—and what you can do to stay balanced. And more! QUOTES "Any type of movement can really help your metabolic health and glucose control. So it can be really simple things... squats, walks, just moving throughout the day makes a huge impact." "When we're eating meals, we want to see how high your glucose goes and how quickly it comes back down to baseline. That's really what you want to pay attention to." "You can literally have your cake and eat it too. You just need to be mindful—whether it's with movement before or after, or adjusting your meal slightly, the flexibility is there." "Often, people think, 'I'll never eat cake again.' But actually, using tools like a CGM gives you the freedom to find what works for your body, instead of restricting everything." “I thought I met the man of my dreams, and he turned out to be one of the biggest con men in history,” shares Benita Alexander, a highly accomplished journalist and executive producer. In this episode, she joins Dr. Z to recount her harrowing experience with love fraud at the hands of Dr. Paolo Macchiarini. Benita's story, featured in the Netflix documentary “Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife” and the Wondery podcast “Dr. Death,” serves as a chilling reminder that even the most intelligent and successful individuals can fall victim to the manipulative blueprint of narcissists. Benita met Macchiarini during a vulnerable period in her life. His charm and apparent empathy quickly drew her in, leading to a whirlwind romance. However, as their relationship progressed, red flags began to emerge, which Benita initially dismissed due to Macchiarini's convincing explanations. Dr. Z and Benita explore the psychological impact of such a profound betrayal, emphasizing the difficulty of recognizing, and escaping from, a narcissistic abusive relationship. They discuss how factors such as intelligence and success do not necessarily immunize one from becoming vulnerable to this type of abuse. Benita's courageous decision to go public with her story underscores the need to raise awareness about the dangers of people like Macchiarini, who exploit their victims' trust for personal gain. Exploring the complexities of narcissistic abuse, the insidious nature of love bombing, and the resilience required to rebuild one's life after such a traumatic experience, this episode serves as both a cautionary tale and a source of inspiration for those who may find themselves entangled in similar situations. Quotes “Any narcissist's worst fear is the collapse—falling from the pedestal, their reputation being destroyed.” (36:35 | Benita Alexander) “It takes so much courage for a woman to come forward and expose herself like that. And then, on top of it, to get attacked—it's the reason people don't talk about this kind of thing. That's what's so concerning to me because if we stay quiet and if women don't feel comfortable enough to come forward and talk, it's going to keep happening. These people—narcissists, con artists, sociopaths, whatever you want to call them—count on you being quiet. They count on you being too embarrassed and humiliated to talk. That's why the lies keep escalating, because they don't think they're ever going to get caught.” (58:59 | Benita Alexander) “I think it's also important to realize—very, very important—not to blame yourself. I mean, what was your crime? You fell in love. You wanted to trust the person you fell in love with, and that's a very normal thing. You didn't do anything wrong. You were vulnerable. When you're vulnerable and you fall in love, there's a reason they say love is blind. But you never expect something this extreme to happen. You never expect someone to be lying to you about literally everything." Doing Divorce Different A Podcast Guide to Doing Divorce Differently
Today, I have Tracy Pleschourt from Self Made U back on the podcast! We are talking about how to feel confident in your decisions. Tracy talks about how to know if you are ready to make a big decision in your life, and the best ways to really sit with that decision to ensure you are making it from the best place possible. She also explains our primitive and prodigy brains and how they can work against each other. The tips Tracy shares hold true whether you are making decisions about work, life, business, or divorce, so tune in to learn how to feel confident in your decisions. In this episode: [3:01] How do you know when you are ready to take action and make a decision? [6:15] How do you know if you have all the information you need to make a decision? [9:53] What actions can you take to make sure you are making the right decision? Tracy walks through an example of someone finding out their significant other cheated on them. [11:13] How do our primitive and prodigy sides of our brain work? [16:34] Why does divorce create a feeling of suffrage and how do you work through it? Key Takeaways: When you come up on a situation that has you feeling like you have to make a decision, take a step back and ask yourself “what feeling is driving that action?” Don't make a big decision from a feeling of desperation. Once you've made a decision that you feel confident in, write down why you like the decision that you made. The likelihood that you'll come back to the decision you made and feel unsure is high, so having it written down will help calm your brain. As humans, we are expected to feel every emotion. That is good for us, it helps keep us aware, and is a necessary part of life. Learning WHEN to make decisions that go along with the feelings we are experiencing is a skill that needs to be learned. Quotes: “Any good decision that you make, requires fact finding. It requires you to tap into resources and referencing any sort of mentoring, any sort of resource you might need yet to tap into, you might need to remind yourself that you have already tapped into it.” - Tracy Pleschourt “If your goal is to feel confident in the decision that you made, you've got to back up from the action of making the decision, and find what feeling is driving you.” - Tracy Pleschourt “When you are feeling the pain, or you are feeling the terror, that is a human response, we are all supposed to experience all of the emotions available to us, including suffrage, including terror, but we don't want to suffer unnecessarily or compound that suffering with judgment that sounds like you shouldn't. Have some compassion, have some grace for yourself, show yourself some empathy.” - Tracy Pleschourt Guest Bio: Tracy Pleschourt, the Founder of Self-Made U helps men and women create Self-Made wealth and wellness through life coaching. Tarin was raised in Christianity, but has found yoga to be an all-encompassing practice which has helped her explore other spiritual practices. Temperament and Personality InfluencesTarin believes she was born with a calm and patient temperament, and was an introvert. As an adult, she has worked to be more extroverted. As an only child, Tarin claims she always wanted to prove her point, but eventually learned through life experience and marriage that “you can't be right all the time.”Cultural EpiphaniesTarin has realized that she won't necessarily fit in with those who look like her. She also learned through teaching yoga that not everyone is focused on self-care and wellness. Advice to an Employer Openness to change, to another person's perspective, and to growth are values that excite Tarin in working with others, which help everyone move forward towards their goals.More Great Insights! This week, I'm speaking with the brilliant Lauren Elizabeth! Lauren is a Courage Coach and a Feminist Business Mentor. Her mission is to help feminist coaches and creatives deprogram from oppressive patriarchal conditioning so they can make a more massive impact in the world and have a life and a business that lights them the fuck up. I was so excited to hear Lauren speak about finding pleasure in your business in a way that I've not encountered very often. We talk about how finding joy in your work is what makes it sustainable, an approach that can stretch from your day-to-day, to working with clients, and even throughout your content. With so many of us preoccupied with the (dreaded) algorithm, Lauren gives tips on how to shift focus from follower count and statistics, and into true engagement with the clients that you can serve best. Your business shouldn't feel like a chore, so listen in for some tips on how to make it the opposite! You can find Lauren at www.laurenelizabethcoaching.com Insta: @lauren.elizabeth.coaching Community: www.feministbusinessnetwork.com QUOTES “Any of us who live outside of the norm are very much told how we're supposed to be. And I would say, noticing in myself and in my clients, how much those ‘supposed tos' is and how much those ‘shoulds' were keeping us from being our full brilliant selves.” “Patriarchy says we should always be doing. Capitalism says we should always be producing. And like, if we deprogram from that a little bit, to the extent that we can, what does consistency - like creating consistent content or showing up consistently in your business - look like for you?” “I've been like hovering just below 3000 followers for like a year. And part of me is like, come on, I just want to get to 3000 followers. And the other part of me is like, those like 60 people aren't going to make or break my business.” “Growth and engagement is important in that it like feels good, but ultimately what matters is our ability to connect with our best fit clients. And if we're doing that right, if we're connecting with our best fit clients, then the strategy is still working” “Often the, the sort of container for a niche is focused specifically on the problem and a person's identity markers… I'm not opposed to talking about like the pain points. I think those things are still important to address, but I don't think we need to lead with them. I don't think that that needs to be the centre of our work.” “I think what it takes is a sort of embodied approach to this work… noticing a ‘should' and then taking some time to like sense it, like, where is that coming from in my body? Where is that coming from in my memories? Who told me that story?”
Randi Smith is an island girl who is passionate about celebrating life's big moments. She is the founder and lead designer at Sugar Euphoria - a boutique wedding cake and confectionery studio in North Carolina. On today's episode of the podcast, Randi chats with Michelle about navigating through the busyness of being an entrepreneur, cake designer, and mother. She's got a lot on her plate, but her story of going from burnout to profit, isn't one you're going to want to miss! Randi has been featured in Style Me Pretty Brides Magazine, Martha Stewart, Borrowed & Blue, Southern Bride & Groom, Munaluchi Bride, Wedding Sparrow, and Grey Likes Weddings. Big Takeaways Top 5 Questions for Randi Does she stay and cut the cake? No. Most caterers offer a cake cutting service though. What if there are a lot of guests but not a big budget? Cupcakes, sheetcake, and more are a great option! What should we do with the extra cake? You can box up cake for guests, create a storage solution, save a slice for the one year! Put the cake in the fridge first, to help the icing harden a bit, then saran wrap it, put it in a box, and put it in the freezer! Will she put the flowers on the cake with fresh flowers? Depends! Are the flowers an important part of thedesign? Ifnot, it's fine if the florist does it. Otherwise, she will try to work with the florist to make it work. How many flavors can you have in your tiered cake? As many flavors as there are tiers. When you have allergies or food restrictions, it is important to do the research on your bakers. There are really great alternative options, and some bakers will even have a referral for you. Plated dinners, you want to make sure you have cake for everyone. * Buffet style, you can have a little less. Not everyone will end up eating a slice. * What you should be looking for in a cake baker? * Make sure they are licensed with the city or state. * Make sure they are insured! * If guests were to get sick, the baker's insurance would cover costs and you as the couple would not have to worry about this. When it comes to proposals and contracts: - They should be detailed. * You want to make sure you know what the icing is. * Size and shape of tiers? * What is the delivery fee? * Are rentals of cake knife, server, cake stand on there? * How do you return those? When? * Sometimes proposals roll into contract and invoice, * Is everything included? * What happens if there is a reschedule? How to cut and serve the cake: * Request a cutting chart from your cake baker or look one up on the internet. * the person cutting needs to know how many servings need to be cut. * Not like a bday cake, they need to be little rectangles (not wedges.) * There will be little dowels in each tier for support that need to be removed. * Work with a clean knife between each cut. Dip it into hot water. You'll need a towel or a rag. Alternatives to cake * Randis' favorite alternative is macaroons. * Easy to customize to theme and colors. * Shells can be dyed to match your colors. * Mix and match fillings. * Fun way to incorporate on traditional flavors into dessert (ie: peanut butter is your fave, funfetti, cookies and cream) * Edible printers - can add pics of your pet, monogram, etc... * Make great party favors * Macarron towers, bowl, plate * Light and dairy - eat a few without feeling guilty * Mini tarts or pies * Level of sophistication ot the dessert table * Pull in the fun flavors * Dessert Shooters * Your wedding cake can be put in a shooter as an alternative to cupcakes - aesthetically pleasing * Lactose, gluten, egg-free, or vegan * Do the research on the bake and make sure to sample! * There are a lot of products on the market so it is possible. I'm like, ‘you're not extra, you're in the right place. Because I just have leaflets and leaflets of 24 karat gold. I will gold leaf anything. So, yes, we can do that.'” - Randi “I just want to encourage people, if you're not a cake fan, there are so many alternatives out there for you. Singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen said, “There's a crack in everything—that's how the light gets in.” Sometimes the way we approach Scripture is to think we have to have everything about it perfect—ourselves, our interpretations of it—to have a fulfilling spiritual life. But writer Shauna Niequist reminds us that couldn't be further from the truth. Shauna shows us that allowing ourselves to be imperfect in our approach to spiritual lives—and in any creative endeavor—is the gateway to experiencing the beauty that God meant for us to have. Quotes “Any piece of art or wisdom or culture or meaning, you can observe it at a distance or you can interact with it, let it shape you, let it interact with your own experiences and feelings and the experience of it will be so much richer if you do that. And I think the Bible's just exactly that same way.” —Shauna Niequist “I want my kids to feel able to make the decisions that match their own values for their lives, to make their lives as busy or slow as they want them to be, to be as relational and social and adventurous or contemplative and quiet—whatever suits them.” —Shauna Niequist “Any of us who are storytellers or songwriters or painters or dancers, people who make anything, who tell stories in any way, poets, preachers, all of it—we're writing down what we see in the world, what's beautiful, what's notable, what's profound, what's shaping and challenging so that God's children can read it. And then our job is to just wait with happy excitement and see what God is going to do with it.” —Shauna Niequist Shauna's LinksShauna's Website Shauna's Facebook Shauna's Twitter Shauna's Instagram Resources Mentioned in This EpisodeAnne Lamott Connect with Sally Lloyd-JonesJesus Storybook Bible Facebook Jesus Storybook Bible Instagram Sally's website Sally's Facebook Sally's Instagram *The Jesus Storybook Bible Podcast is produced by Four Eyes Media
Ever since the age of 11, Michelle Kuei has been followed by an invisible checkbox. Similar to the checkboxes you fill out on job or college applications, this unseen checkbox represents the assumptions that people make about Michelle with just a cursory glance. Michelle has a visible disability: she walks on crutches as a result of a car accident she was involved in during her early years. The resulting damage was permanent and has affected the labels people automatically ascribe to her ever since. Now a success coach, founder of Elevate Life Coaching, Michelle didn't always have such a positive outlook. She explains that for many years, she was consumed by frustration, anger and sadness about her disability and the limitations it forced upon her. However, Michelle tells listeners that one day she woke up and decided to stop feeling sorry for herself. After avoiding the gym for most of her life, Michelle got a gym membership, a personal trainer, and ultimately climbed Machu Picchu! This feat inspired Michelle to quit her job as a pharmacist and become a full-time coach, motivating others to turn their dreams into realities. Tune into this week's episode of Breaking Labels for a poignant conversation with Michelle about turning limitations into possibilities. Learn about the differences between passion and purpose, the transformational power of rejection, and why discovering your “why” is the first step towards achieving lifelong fulfillment.Quotes• “Any human being going through their life – we're always looking for some type of success. I got up in the morning – great success. I finished my coffee or got to my coffee – great success. I think success to a lot of people is just being able to show up and do the things that they want to do in their life, and feel accomplished, feel satisfied, feel fulfilled.” (05:20-05:44)• “I was done feeling sorry for myself, and I was done accepting those no's when someone answered. I wanted that yes, and that yes needed to come from me.” (07:23-07:31)• “I keep adjusting, adapting in order to fit in, to manage my everyday activity…. There are a lot of realistic challenges that just show up regardless of how smart I am, how good I am, how talented I am. There's limitation all around.” (12:54-14:20)• “There's that invisible checkbox walking around next to you, and people just check off, ‘Oh, disabled. Let me give her special treatment.'....You start to believe that there are so many limitations on yourself that there's no way that you can achieve anything at all because you've been labeled as disabled or handicapped or abnormal.'” (19:15-20:26)• “Physical work, taking care of our physical needs, it's actually the low hanging fruit. There are so many different things that we can address on a daily basis that would help us get going or achieve more goals, right? But the physical is the most easy to access.” (38:20-38:37)• “I think that should be the number one, top question on all job applications, all college applications: ‘Why do you believe that this is your purpose? Why do you believe this is important to you?'” (45:06-45:20)LinksConnect with Michelle Kuei:• Website: http://elevatelifecoaching.org• IG: https://www.instagram.com/elevatelifecoach/• FB: https://www.facebook.com/groups/theconfidencelab• LI: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michelle-kuei/• Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn1sZpJJvPUQ8YVfEujhkDw?view_as=subscriber• Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5Lx5u5s0frBQY7PFWBv3i0?si=FjP0QBOyQdee0fsO7a8-fw&nd=1Connect with host Rosanna Gill and Breaking Labels:• https://www.instagram.com/breakinglabelspodcast/• https://breakinglabelspodcast.com/• https://www.instagram.com/rosanna.e.gill/Have a scenario where you asked or said something that offended someone, but you don't know why? Where did all these Medicare Advantage plans come from? They're great for seniors to be able to afford more dental care but they're taking a lot of offices by surprise. I asked my friend Dilaine to break it down for you (and for me!) We throw around a lot of words like opt-in, enrolled and prescribing physician. They each have significant meaning and we will need to not only know them but to adequately explain it to our patients. I expect you'll take plenty of notes - I know I did! Quotes: “Any provider who opted out of traditional Medicare is not eligible to receive benefits from a Medicare Advantage plan.” “It seems like everyone and their brother has a Medicare Advantage Plan.” “There is a lot of stuff with Medicare that does apply to the dentists that flies under the radar.” “We can dive into a deep black hole and stay there (to investigate Medicare Advantage), but office managers may not be able to do that.” Regarding customer service reps: “If it's not on their list in front of them they will not know the answer.” “Be sure you have entered into a written private contract with that patient and I recommend doing that every two years, every time that renewal period comes up.” “If you have to listen to this again no one would blame you, this is not easy stuff.” Don't forget to check out my other podcast Chew on This - A Dental Podcast! Buyers love that... The one move you can make in any business that will increase your valuation is to add some kind of subscription revenue.” - Eric“As I get later in my life, [I’ve realized] brokers are amazing. Think about it: as an app developer, you spend 99% of your time being an app developer, right? And then you have this 1% critical action, which is the sale… It’s really useful to have somebody on your side who’s done this before and can tell you what you’re doing that’s wrong and what you’re doing that’s right.” - Jacob“If you’re an inexperienced seller of something, get somebody to help you out.” - Jacob“I forget what I paid Eric; it was probably $20,000 or $30,000. But to me, I saw it as worth every penny because he helped bring the market that got the highest and best value of the app… Having access to that pool of buyers and having Eric’s experience helping me walk through it, I think it made up the [cost] of whatever I paid him in the valuation that I got in the sale.” - David“I’ve sold three apps, and it’s been huge for me. It’s helped pay off debt, it’s helped put a little money away, and helped me sleep better at night. There’s a lot of reasons to do it.” - David“There’s a lot of people who can’t make [apps]. I think as indie app people, we just kind of take for granted — because we hang out on Twitter with a bunch of other people who know how to make apps — that it’s not that unique. And it’s a tough business; it’s not always easy to make an app that’s going to make you a lot of money. But if you factor in… the fact that not everybody can make these things, that can be a really useful tool for you to unlock liquidity earlier than you would otherwise.” - Jacob“I think people should have the mindset… that you are building an asset that you can sell someday if you want to. You don’t ever have to, but build something that is sellable. If people can treat it more as an investment, that can see people through some of the dark times, the challenges of being an entrepreneur.” - EricLike this episode?Subscribe to Sub Club on Spotify or Apple Podcasts to get the latest news on mobile subscription apps.

With a wonderfully unorthodox start to the skill set, Dodgy Roger of Dodgy Paper takes us through his genesis and process of what is such a unique, fascinating and also steeped in literally thousands of years of tradition, the art of making paper. What Dodgy Paper brings to the foreground is not just the use of recycled paper, but using this feature as a focal point, embracing the irregularities rather than hiding them. Dodgy takes things as far ranging as candy wrappers and parking fines transforming them into gorgeous hand made paper. During our chat we talk about how important and enjoyable it can be to just dive in head first learning by trial and error rather than over analyzing. We dive into practical ways to get into the creative flow state, discuss the joy of discovering and exploring different disciplines and even get into a bit about personal branding. How do you find work if you live in a place that might not have many opportunities? It’s going to take some creativity, determination, and flexibility for sure, but the work is out there. Today’s guest, Barry Andersson, has made a career out of taking what he calls “intelligent risks” to find amazing work in unexpected ways. Barry is an award-winning director and cinematographer. He has made a career in television and video production which includes five feature films, many short films, three TV pilots, and numerous commercials. He uses his real-world experience to work for clients like Disney, Skype, and ESPN to instruct seminars globally about best practices for filmmakers. He’s consulted with groups like the US Marines, the NFL, NBA, and some prestigious universities. As if that weren’t enough, he’s also the author of the DSLR Filmmaker’s Handbook. Today, we’re talking about unconventional ways to find work in this business. Barry has found work that he truly enjoys doing and we talk about discovering jobs that we find fulfilling. As a master of making great videos under less than ideal circumstances, Barry pulls the curtain back to reveal some of the ways he ends up with amazing finished products. Barry took a unique path into filmmaking, eschewing formal film school in favor of going his own intrepid route. We talk about what this journey was like, its unique struggles and advantages and disadvantages. Barry is a pro at finding work in unexpected places and he shares how he does that too. Have you found any outside the box solutions to getting work far from the big studios? Let me know how you did it in the comments on the episode page! In this episode: Identifying work that you truly enjoy doing Common frustrations that aspiring filmmakers face and how you can overcome them The work-ethic and sheer force of determination necessary to make it big in this line of work Finding jobs in unexpected places by leveraging your resources and connections Why you should work on jobs that make you nervous and uncomfortable Three unconventional ways to excel in the video business Quotes: “Any time I get to work with someone and get to create an authentic moment that isn’t authentic, that’s something that I feel like I was put on this earth to do.” [9:21] “How many people have one defined path that worked? This is the only business where literally there are no rules… As long as you don’t think it’s crazy, then it’s a viable option to try.” [20:31] “If you're not working on jobs routinely that make you uncomfortable and nervous, you are not doing it right because those are the jobs that push you to be the best.” [29:08] Links: Find Barry Andersson online Follow Barry Andersson on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube | Vimeo The High Performance Planner The DSLR Filmmaker's Handbook by Barry Anderson and Janie L. This week we are joined by a dude that knows more about dating than most people on this planet, Derek from Real Social Dynamics. He teaches people how to get the dating life they want and takes them out in the “field” to practice. Today he shares the in-house secrets of this skill set, how he got into the pickup world, what really makes up good game, approach anxiety, why he hates corny lines, and ways for all of us to not be such weirdos with hot chicks. Key Takeaways: [2:41] Derek has a business background, and RSD has been more of a hobby than his main source of income. He gets to travel around the world, hang out with cool dudes and help them get a fantastic dating and sex life. [8:36] The fundamentals of pickup are similar to having good form at the gym. You have to build up to good results and put in the reps and sets. [9:22] The three core questions a guy has to answer first in order to know his true identity: What kind of man am I? What kind of life do I want to live? What kind of companions would be ideal for that life? [12:28] When a girl feels a lack of certainty or decisiveness, it can also come off as creepy and insecure. [17:28] Resourcefulness, reproductive value, and having fun are at the top of what girls look for, rather than always money or a job title. It helps to be ballin' out of control and have a boat and a huge house, but it's not necessary. [20:57] Derek always recommends being direct and honest when communicating interest with a girl. If you respect yourself and your time, it's best to let someone know when you like them from the beginning and invite them to do something cool that you are already doing. [27:53] It's normal to get stuck in your head and have anxiety approaching women. The more you practice doing it the right way and train yourself to stay curious and open-minded, the easier it is to take action. [31:22] Using the same old-school routines and lines to pick up girls didn't work for Derek, and he found it to be incongruent with the way he was living the rest of his life. [33:59] Instead of faking that you are a certain way, really become that cool, resourceful, and successful guy. [46:09] If you want the optimal life, it's hard work and dedication but it's worth it. [49:29] Whatever your goal is, find the people that are doing the best job at it and make them your mentor or coach. [54:13] Brandon's tips for being cool and not a loser: focus on what you love, what you are good at, and what you can do to make money. Some will overlap in the circle, some will stay separate but still bring you enjoyment. [59:37] Derek's not one to brag, but his courses are constantly sold out all over the world. People love his practical and common sense teachings mixed with high value and long-term education. [67:04] Humans are going to act in their own self-interest. Whoever you are trying to attract, whether it's in love or business, make it so that hanging with you is a benefit to them. In this episode I sat down with Rob Sayles, a DIGITAL marketing expert (who is also backed with over 20 years of marketing experience) who runs a Facebook academy on top of coaching, mentoring and developing businesses and today we get to talk about Facebook as a powerful tool in business. Rob shares how Facebook is the biggest social media platform, far bigger than Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. as well as how it has evolved over the years since it first came out. We talked about how the platform has matured and has become a very effective tool that one can use for both personal and business use. Rob also touched on the Facebook algorithm – how it works, weeds through the content of the users post to determines which ones are relevant. He also shared Facebook’s plans on improving the platform. We tackled how Facebook and any online platforms for that matter, are harvesting data about how you use the platform and this data creates a database which can be used by businesses very effectively. Rob talked about how Facebook can help you organically grow your audience without the use of Facebook ads by harnessing Facebook pages, and groups. Rob also shares the two primary methods of how his business is able to help others: Establish Brand Awareness – helping a client build his brand awareness (on Facebook) through organic method i.e. making use of pages and groups, and creating “interesting” contents. Using Facebook’s Paid Products – effectively using ads, etc. to reach new audiences. In this episode, we also discussed how Facebook Retargeting works and how a cold lead is transformed into warmer leads as it goes down through the sales funnel. Rob explains how Facebook Pixel fits into this. In today’s episode, we also get to hear Rob’s adventure when he was invited by Facebook to attend an event in Brussels recently. Lastly, we got Rob to give us three tips and techniques on how to grow our businesses on Facebook: Catch people’s attention with your content in three seconds or less! Make an impact in that short span of time. Video is King! Incorporate videos into your contents. Generate a Pixel! Even if you have no plans of running a paid Facebook advertising yet, be sure to generate Pixel, it helps you in harvesting data. Golden Nugget Round Question 1 – What would you tell your 25 Year Old Self? Do what you love and build up your tribe. Question 2 – What is the one BIG learning point that change how you now do your business? Taking imperfect actions, not polishing something to the nth degree. Things change so fast that you need to get out there and actually let the market decide whether what you’re offering is suitable or not. Question 3 – What was your biggest investment or financial decision? Doing courses and taking up mentorship. You should never stop learning – there’s always somebody out there that’s going to be better than you in certain things. SHOW NOTES I was introduced to Jesse Macedo through a mutual friend. We’ve met in passing at Holiday Parties, Birthdays and Dinner… I’ve always enjoyed BSing with him about movement so I thought I’d have him on the podcast. I found over the course of our BSing that he really knows his shit! I asked him to assist me in educating the public about painless squatting during knee month and he jumped at the chance. Squatting without shoes Rooting Use of Kettlebells Debunking common squatting myths All of these topics and more are addressed during this podcast session. It’s a fun one… you won’t be disappointed! The video version is on Youtube… subscribe to the channel to get access. Jesse Macedo Bio: Experienced Personal Trainer with a demonstrated history of working in the health wellness and fitness industry. Email: jmacedopt@gmail.com IG: @strengthcoachmacedo Quotes: Any shoe these days have a heel lift and a smaller front. That automatically puts (the ankles) into plantar flexion. Hey why don’t you tell me what happened on rep 6,7, & 8... That gives them a moment to pause and think about what they just did (good or bad rep). If you’re inundated with texts, emails or you’re thinking about work then that 90% 1RM becomes dangerous. Pay attention to the moment. {to a random gym goer} I see you’re doing goblet squats. I love kettlebells bro… All I want you to do, is try that one without your shoes on man… and see how it feels. This trader is no stranger to the podcast, but he’s a great trader so why not talk to him again and see where he currently stands in his trading journey? For you members of the community, Dave (or “h00ch” as he is known by in the chat room) is someone who has essentially been around since the start and continues to be a pillar of the community. Although he has been trading for more than a decade, he still continues to make progress and discover new areas of the market that assist him in adding more tools to his trading toolbelt. This isn’t really an interview, more-so just a laid back conversation, so sit back and enjoy! Notes: Today we speak to long time community member h00ch. Since we have already interviewed him, we decide to throw some new questions at him. To summarize his background, he worked at a bank for many years and would take some investment advice from friends. He definitely struck some fools gold and then when his job eventually downsized, he was out of a job and decided to make day trading his job. He was able to capitalize during the dot com boom by putting most of his income into stocks with websites but he did take some significant losses when the bubble burst but he still came out net positive. H00ch has expanded his trading vehicles to include futures. After paper trading them for 4 months, he did open a margin account and mainly trades futures in the evenings after the regular market session is over. Even though he is a day trader primarily, he does swing trade as well. That’s the beauty of technical analysis… it applies to all timeframes. He looks for the same setups he would use on a shorter term chart as he would on a longer term chart. He has slowly ratcheted up his size over the years for his day trading but it is contingent on the market conditions. H00ch is smart enough to realize not to push it when the market is stuck in a tight range and to take advantage of trending markets instead. Quotes: “Any company that had any mention of a website would just take off during the dot com boom.” “At first I wasn’t interested in futures so I paper traded it. I did eventually open a margin account and trade 1 contract at a time.” “I’ll look at the longer term charts in the evenings. You can make all the plans in the world but a big gap can ruin that.” “With my swing trading, since I trade smaller size, I am able to use wider stops. You’re looking for the same patterns and setups.” “My day trading size has increased slightly. It depends on the market if it is trending or in a channel.” Links: The Stock Trading Reality Podcast: Episode 2 The Stock Trading Reality Podcast: Episode 75 The Stock Trading Reality Podcast: Episode 100
