Hey everyone,This week on The Modern Recruiter, I had a great conversation with Benjamin Mena, host of The Elite Recruiter Podcast and Managing Partner at Select Source Solutions. Benjamin then interviewed me on his own podcast - give it a listen here. It was fun to do a crossover episode - and I know many of you are already big fans of Benjamin's! Benjamin shared a lot on his personal story from getting almost fired as a young, hungry recruiter, to launching his successful practice and scale his personal brand:* The power of consistent content creation Benjamin's journey with The Elite Recruiter Podcast shows how regular, valuable content can build strong relationships and generate business. He emphasized the importance of sharing others' stories and industry insights rather than always focusing on yourself.* Specializing in government contracting recruitment The virtues of niching are something I hear again and again on this podcast (most recently on episodes #73 and #74 with Diane and Clark). By focusing on this niche, Benjamin built a deep expertise that set him apart. He explained how understanding the unique challenges of government contracts has been crucial to his success. * Overcoming early career struggles Benjamin started at Aerotek and faced significant challenges in his first few months. He turned things around by learning from top performers, a strategy that helped him become a top biller within a year.* Evolving business models in recruitment We discussed how Select Source Solutions shifted from primarily direct placements to offering more consulting services, allowing them to better serve government contracting clients and diversify revenue streams.* Advice for recruiters at different career stages Benjamin offered targeted advice:* For newcomers: You can't help everyone. Just focus on helping clients find the best person.* For experienced recruiters: Go back to basics, hit your metrics, but also find ways to stand out in a crowded market.* For all recruiters: Don't neglect sales training, even if you prefer recruiting. This episode is packed with practical advice for recruiters at all stages, especially those interested in government contracting or looking to leverage content creation for business growth. What do you think about Benjamin's approach to content creation and specialization? Have you tried similar strategies in your own recruiting business?I'd love to hear your thoughts - just hit reply and let's chat!Until next time, Robin This is a public episode. In this episode of Recruiting Trailblazers – Marcus interviews Bruce Morton about his role at Allegis as Chief Strategy Officer and his book “Redesigning the Way Work Works”Bruce shares how he advises Clients on workforce design and TA in the future - as well as actually leading the design of most suited services for the Allegis client portfolio.Allegis Largest privately held staffing firm in world (owns Aerotek) and operates in all the usual talent verticals – technology, manufacturing, financial services, energy and healthcare. On the subject of the Covid disruption - Allegis were able to get 20k people employees working from home in 2 days plus 500k workers WFH! A lot of perm hiring came to a stop. Bruce thinks it’s going to be a “tick mark recession” (quick entry and slow exit), and also thinks that the contract markets will expand due to lack of confidence – probably indefinitely. Plus we may reach a 50-50 mix of perm to on-demand workers in the not too distant future.Marcus and Bruce discuss the cornerstones of his book – “Redesigning the Way Work Works”What is Organizational readiness? What are Work Design Architects and why do all (big) companies need one? What is a Talentsumer?(Bruce describes how todays workers “consume” jobs in the same way that they might purchase any product or service.)Deconstructing the work – what is the need for it? (basing your hiring decisions on your achievement goals rather than duties and responsibilities)One of the highlight of the conversation - Bruce shares a great story about Ronald Reagan visiting NASA – asking a cleaner what do you do? He responded – “I helped put a man on the moon!”Other key questions answered:To what extent do companies have a properly mapped out mission and strategy – to increase the value of their offering to their clients?Talent Architecture – can Companies check their egos at the door to allow the new workers to choose how best to engage with an employer to perform a specific set of tasks.Do companies need to bear more responsibility regarding the retention of employees/workers in tough times like Covid? Are companies finally measuring workers by productivity instead of activity? Are remote workers in fact getting more work done at home – and isn’t this a big surprise?Do you think hiring managers do enough to sell the opportunity to a candidate - or spend too much time assessing for fit?The Glassdoor phenomena – does it work and what impact is it having on the world of work? Bruce explains why Allegis is such a great place to work! I sat down recently with Timothy Wheeler, President and CEO of Wheeler Staffing Partners, a staffing firm based in Allen, Texas. We talked about how we got connected, shared stories about networking, and the importance of leveraging tools like LinkedIn as a job seeker and working professional. Timothy's easy demeanor and years of experience in the business made this a great conversation! For Timothy, recruiting started at an early age as he was a sought after football recruit coming out of his high school near Oklahoma City. Early on, he saw the good, the bad, and the ugly side of recruiting of high-level athletes. After finishing his football career and college degree at Texas A&M University - Commerce, he decided to start a recruiting career with one of the nation's largest staffing firms, Aerotek. The rest, as they say, is history. Over the last 24 years, he's worked several recruiting jobs eventually becoming President/COO of HLP Solutions, an IT, Telecommunications, Engineering staffing firm based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. In 2012, he became CEO and Partner of WheelHouse Resource Partners, another staffing firm based in Plano, Texas. In June 2014, he founded Wheeler Staffing Partners, a staffing firm focused on contract, contract-to-hire, direct hire, contingency, and executive positions. Wheeler Staffing Partners started in his house and has grown to nearly 90 employees. The firm just celebrated their five-year anniversary. When he's not working requisitions and landing people jobs, he spends his time on the football field...as a coach. Timothy's got a passion for youth sports and gives back by coaching young boys who are getting ready to play junior high football in Rockwall, Texas. www.6degreesorless.com www.wheelersp.com

Techno Delivery Systems Radio is psyched to feature AXKAN on February's episode! If you're unfamiliar with his work, prepare yourself! Featured Set 11pm - AXKAN OMEN Recordings No stranger to the LA Techno scene, or even the world, Axkan is a talented producer and performer from Los Angeles. His Techno is highly influenced by Industrial and EBM alongside ethnic rhythms. His darker and noisy style of Techno is a highly sought sound and can be found on several labels (i.e. OMEN Recordings, Advanced (Black), The Cast Project, Reloading Records, SecreTechno, Rheostatus, From 0-1, GBB, Aerotek, Format Recordings, Switch Off, Eternal Drive, etc.). “Axkan without question has to be one of the most brilliant rapid rising stars on the American West Coast Techno scene and everyone is just starting catch on. His live sets are perking up ears from all over the world, devastating dancefloors from Berlin, UK, Paris, Russia, Mexico, Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Vancouver, Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, among others. There are people who make techno, and play techno live, but there are few masters of their machines who know how to put them to effective use when in front of an audience and that's where Axkan shines.” - Sean Ocean, DEFSF Opening duties 10pm - DoubleUngood Techno Delivery Systems Fnoob Techno Radio Complaisance Resistance Corps

Episode 21 has finally arrived and I am ecstatic to finally release & share this guest mix with you. This episode takeover is a special mix coming from a fellow 914-New Yorker turned desert dweller. In the recent years he has been taking Arizona & the west coast by storm with not only his DJing, but his productions as well. Oh & I did I mention he happens to be the Owner/Creator/Label-Boss of one of my favorite techno labels Aerotek Recordings? *Drum roll please.....* Ladies & Gentlemen give it up for the Aerotek General himself Rolando Hodar! After launching Aerotek in 2013 Rolando has created a beautiful mantra of inviting people to #AlwaysChooseTechno. Since forging Aerotek he has had industry heavy hitters such as D-Unity, Dkult, Bageera, Joy Fagnani, Alex Young, & Deetech, just to name a few; release massive tracks and EPs on Aerotek Recordings. I don’t see Rolando or Aerotek slowing down anytime soon. Be sure to stay tuned and follow both Rolando & Aerotek on social media/beatport for what are sure to be nothing but more incredible techno releases all throughout 2019. It is a real honor that he took the time out of his busy schedule to feed the always growing Philosophy family this massive hour & a half mix of nothing but techno!! Now without further ado…. This is the Philosophy-101 takeover with Rolando Hodar!! As always; listen, share, like, comment, and most importantly.. DANCE!
