The more I let it marinate in my mind, the less sense it made - and the more irresponsible it was, in my opinion - that WXIA-TV (11 Alive) and its NexStar TV partners throughout the state hosted a televised / live-streamed Democratic gubernatorial debate with only half the field in the race. Their flimsy / flawed criteria is so thanks in large part to flawed and sporadic (at best) polling, and it's not as if they couldn't have commissioned a fresh poll closer to the debate date themselves. What makes it so irresponsible is that a) they could fit three more candidates in the studio and b) they may have left out the candidate with the most momentum, right now. What's worse: there wasn't much new to learn about the three (erm) "leading" candidates that would alter the state of the race for either of them.Well, it made me feel better, anyway, to revisit my conversations with the three snubbed candidates today while peeking in on a few notable moments from last night.

Bernhard Fercher entwickelt die App Sidekik. Diese fördert auf spielerische Weise die Motivation fürs Fliegen. Was steckt dahinter? +++ Es gibt so unterschiedliche Fliegertypen. Für die einen ist Airtime „alles“. Sie hängen sich stundenlang wie festgenagelt am Prallhang in den Talwind. Hauptsache sie haben keinen Boden unter den Füßen. Andere wiederum haben nur die XC-Punkte im Blick, gehen ständig „auf Strecke“, auch wenn sie dabei das immergleiche Dreieck zum x-ten Mal abreiten. Und dann gibt es diese Pilotinnen und Piloten, die es irgendwie in die Lüfte treibt. Dort gondeln sie eine Weile eher ziellos umher, fallen dann irgendwann mangels Fokus aus der Thermik, stehen bald wieder am Boden, wo sie sich dann, sehnsuchtsvoll in den Himmel schauend, fragen: Wieso bin ich eigentlich nicht weitergeflogen? Vor allem dieser dritten beschriebenen Gruppe kann geholfen werden. Seit Anfang 2025 gibt es die App Sidekik. Programmiert hat sie der österreichische Pilot Bernhard Fercher. Er will damit auf spielerische Weise die Motivation fürs Fliegen fördern. Die App hilft dabei, Ziele zu setzen, um zum aktiveren und letztendlich auch irgendwie besseren Piloten zu werden. Der Weg dorthin führt über Gamification, also der Einführung von spielerischen Elementen in den Flugalltag. David was a key player in the steel scene in the early 2000s. Canadian, underrated, creative, and very gnarly.
