Julia Barno describes herself as “culturally Jewish” after growing up with a divorced Mom in Buffalo NY. She went to a decidedly Jewish summer camp where she once met Larry David. Her family turned to her for reliable laughs to defuse tension. Julia was a natural. Now comedy is a calling she dares to answer. We sit down in her office in her Plaza-Midwood home in Charlotte and the conversation takes off like a rocket. What. FUN.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The United States Armed Forces are facing the biggest recruiting crisis in fifty years. At the same time, there is a growing cultural gap between the military and civilian sectors of the American public. Politicians, generals, and academics are all concerned, but the situation doesn't seem to be getting any better. This week, we sit down with Dr. Nora Bensahel and LTG David Barno to discuss the recruiting crisis, the civil military gap, and how, if left unchecked, these issues may affect the United States in the long term. For more information on the recruiting crisis, check out Gen. Barno and Dr. Bensahel's article from earlier this year: https://warontherocks.com/2023/03/addressing-the-u-s-military-recruiting-crisis/

In this episode of the Dental Wealth Podcast, Tower's Founder and President Eric and Morin and CEO Matthew Maffei sit down with special guest Dr. Michael Barno. Dr. Barno is a dentist who has been practicing for 15 years and spoke about the importance of leadership in scaling out a business. He believes that dentistry is a special profession and there needs to be strong leadership in order to build an organization that can compete with large corporations. During this podcast, Eric, Matthew, and Dr. Barno discussed his motivation behind expanding his practice: wanting to serve more people in their community and create jobs for those who don't want to work for corporate entities. Dr. Barno stresses the importance of having an exit plan but notes that he wants to continue doing dentistry when he's 65 or 70 and therefore has built an organization around this goal. Check it out and subscribe!

Hello, and welcome to Beauty and the Biz where we talk about the business and marketing side of plastic surgery and how Sheila Barbarino, MD has practices in LA and Austin. I'm your host, Catherine Maley, author of Your Aesthetic Practice – What your patients are saying, as well as consultant to plastic surgeons, to get them more patients and more profits. Now, today's episode is called “Practices in LA and Austin. How? - with Sheila Barbarino, MD". When life throws you a curve ball, you have the choice to duck, run away or figure it out. That's what Sheila Barbarino, MD did. She figured it out. Dr. Barbarino, a cosmetic surgeon of the face and body has a thriving practice in LA with celebrity clientele, lots of PR media opportunities and a great reputation as the go-to source for expert techniques for injectables, laser and aesthetic devices. All was well until she experienced a pull to set up another practice in Austin, TX (you have to listen in to find out). This week's Beauty and the Biz Podcast is my interview with Dr. Barbarino describing her journey from LA to Austin to worldwide lecturer, innovator and industry thought leader. It's quite a ride! Hour 4: Virginia Tech DE Amare Barno boards the Mothership. Did Jeter take a stand against cheap owners? Plus, Advanced Analytics & your Epic Fail.
It's Barno's birthday so it only seemed fair to have him on as our very first podcast guest.
After a solid break we are back to deliver more love to your ears. Kicking off with some hot takes on butt stuff we get right into it. What's this reoccurring obsession with girls trying to convince us to put stuff in our lower hole? Bagpipes are officially in, recorders suck, and we test the “phone a friend” lifeline used in most gameshows to see if it would work for us. On a more serious note, Madison almost died in a crash, Danny speaks about his past kidney failure and Barno got dropped on his head as a kid. Thank you! This book offers significant context and substance to our collective understanding of military change and how we conceptualise adaptability. Its clarity and purpose is refreshing in a field dominated by buzzwords and other language that routinely confuses activity and effects. The post #WavellReviews ‘Adaptation under Fire: How Militaries Change in Wartime’ by Lt. General (Ret’d) David Barno and Nora Bensahel. appeared first on Wavell Room.

Few human enterprises are as complex, dynamic, and unpredictable as war. Armed conflict substitutes the relatively ordered reality of peace with the undeniably chaotic reality of combat. Militaries, by design, seek to make sense of and prepare for that chaos. And as long as there have been organized militaries, there have been military officers, theorists, and observers, like Ardant du Pique or B.H. Liddell Hart, who sought to predict the fundamental nature of the next war. But as Lieutenant General David Barno and Dr. Nora Bensahel observe in Adaptation Under Fire: How Militaries Change in Wartime (Oxford University Press, 2020), anticipating the complexities, subtitles, and character of the next war is no simple task. Warfare has a nasty habit of confounding pre-war assumptions and rendering impotent cherished pre-war doctrines, technologies, and leaders. To successfully contend with warfare's radical shifts and rampant unknowns, Barno and Bensahel argue, modern militaries need to be adaptable. They must build an adaptive capacity within their doctrine, cultivate an adaptive approach to technological implementation, and—perhaps most importantly—inculcate an adaptive mindset in their tactical, theater, and institutional leadership. Such adaptive capability, Barno and Bensahel contend, will only grow in importance as the resurgence in great power conflict, the effects of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and the expansion of warfare into space and cyberspace radically reshape the threat environment of the 21st Century. Whether or not the modern United States military is adaptable enough to face and overcome these threats remains an open question—one that Barno and Bensahel seek to answer. Drawing upon a wealth of examples from the conflicts of the 20th century, Adaptation Under Fire powerfully illustrates what successful and unsuccessful adaptation looks like in relation to military doctrine, technology, and leadership. History, of course, is not predictive. Bensahel and Barno, however, deftly wield its analytic potential, revealing the factors that contribute to a potent adaptive capability, as well as the ways in which those factors manifest or fail to manifest within the United States military today. Lucidly argued and perspicacious in its diagnosis and prescriptions, Adaptation Under Fire makes a compelling argument for adaptability as a core competency in the modern United States military.

Join authors Nora Bensahel and David Barno to discuss their book, Adaptation Under Fire., a critical look into how and why the US military needs to become more adaptable. The book argues that militaries facing unknown future conflicts must nevertheless make choices about the type of doctrine that their units will use, the weapons and equipment they will purchase, and the kind of leaders they will select and develop to guide the force to victory. Yet after a war begins, many of these choices will prove flawed in the unpredictable crucible of the battlefield. For a U.S. military facing diverse global threats, its ability to adapt quickly and effectively to those unforeseen circumstances may spell the difference between victory and defeat. With #NatSecGirlSquad founder Maggie Feldman-Piltch. Recorded October 29, 2020.
