In the latest episode of the Advisory Group Podcast, “Be Advised,” we learn about the Mary Free Bed Guild. Our guest is Meg Derrer, program director of the Mary Free Bed Guild and a passionate community advocate. The history of Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital dates back to 1891, when a small group of women set out to help people who couldn't afford health care. Seeking support from the local Grand Rapids community, they passed around a little black purse asking anyone named Mary – and anyone who knew someone named Mary – to donate 10 cents. Mary was the most popular woman's name at the time, so the group quickly raised enough money to fund a bed at a local hospital. That became known as the first “Mary free bed.”As the needs for care in the community grew, so did the group of volunteers. The group incorporated in 1911 as the Mary Free Bed Guild of Grand Rapids. Now 120 women strong, the Guild has representation on all hospital boards and committees. Its reach extends into the community, where the Guild donates to dozens of organizations dedicated to furthering the quality of life for people with disabilities. On this episode, Meg Derrer talks with the “co-advisors” about Guild services, support and sponsorships of hospital and community events. She shares how the Guild is a keeper of the culture at Mary Free Bed – helping to ensure positive experiences and better futures for patients.Derrer also shares her growth in community involvement and walks listeners through how they can make their own personal mission statement. For questions about this or other “Be Advised” podcasts email us at: advisorygroup@maryfreebed.com Learn more about the Mary Free Bed Guild. Continuing from CrackMILF Part 1. Acomi and Turk182 discuss how the code of conduct in fighting has changed. A simple fight, or brawl, used to end with a victor and a loser. The loser walked away having learned a lesson; generally don't fight that other person. Now, the rules are if you lose, keeping coming back with more people until you win. Even worse, the praise heaped upon the winner in the lopsided fight. Turk blames social media darlings and overnight celebrities for the shift in the culture. He blames them for making heinous individuals rich and famous. They also talk about their views on aliens and alien life, and the benefits of knowing a CrackMILF. And, Turk tells Acomi that he's discovered the meaning of life, and explains to him what it is. Be Advised! This podcast contains the unadulterated truth about The Meaning Of Life. Gay was just a little girl playing fairies under the grey moss when her mom told her to watch her little brother. She kept playing. The brother toddled into a pond and drowned. Thus began a lifetime of trauma, post trauma, shame, addiction, therapy, healing, faith and a miraculous belief in a benevolent universe. Powerful stuff. You're gonna wanna share this. BE ADVISED: heavy discussion of loss and grief which may trigger some listeners. Also, audio recorded in the common space at C3 Lab in Charlotte's historic South End, so background noise will drive some audio nerds nuts. Stuart apologizes to audiophiles personally and promises never to do this again.

Episode 18 of convinzed is about Sauna. While this may seem like a cut and dry topic where Vinz has a lot of detailed information, because of course.... his Dad built one, Brian breaks down the cultural experience of going to the enormous sauna and spa facilities available around Europe from an American perspective. BE ADVISED.... this is not a kid friendly episode. Brian talks about his own experience of going for the first time to the "textile free" saunas. Enjoy the hilarious conversation that ensues. Morningstar is a great company and has done great things for bringing investment research to the masses. In this video I show you why you SHOULD invest in their 5 star funds. But, BE ADVISED, this doesn't mean you change your portfolio each year to invest in their 5 star funds. You simply find a highly rated fund from them and stick to it. The reason for this is that Morningstar's highly rated funds have outpeformed. Not by much mind you, but they have outpeformed. Morningstar uses risk-adjusted returns, analyzes different share classes and takes survivorship bias into consideration too. End result? Better performance, with lower volatility and expenses. That's good enough for me! https://joshscandlen.com/morningstar-5-star-funds/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/josh-scandlen-podcast/support

Does the approaching New Year inspire you to roll up your sleeves and make some great strides in your business? If you’ve made some lofty business goals for 2018 — BE ADVISED — you’ll need to arm yourself against the HIDDEN threats that can squash your progress before you even start. Join Jayne Jewell and me as we expose three of the most dangerous “unseen” threats you need to watch out for when building and scaling your business in 2018. We will also share how to disarm each of these threats, so they’ll no longer do damage to your business or stand between you and achieving your goals. In this episode we talk about: Humans are meaning-making machines. Anytime something happens we are always creating meanings to an emotional event that is important and of value to us. We can either create empowering stories for an event or create disempowering stories around the event. The challenge is that many of us are in a pattern of creating disempowering stories of why something won’t work. When looking at your mindset, you want to make sure you aren’t making up a story to sabotage yourself. There is a piece of data or fact that happened, but once you add in the other “made up” stuff in your mind, it all becomes real to you. The story you are choosing can either empower or disempower you. This story determines how you show up in the world and what your level of ability to serve is. You want to get clarity on what the outcomes you desire are, a powerful vision of what your “why” is, and a real solid plan to follow. At COD our success in business is broken down in three ways: income, freedom and lifestyle, and impact. The quickest way to move forward and achieve is to find someone who is getting the outcomes they/you want and it will accelerate your own personal growth. BE ADVISED. IT'S A SPOILER FULL EPISODE!! Year in Review - 03:17 Award Season Recap - 07:07 The Full Monty - 16:00 L.A. Confidential - 36:09 Good Will Hunting - 1:02:11 … (Insert Re: Harvey Weinstein at 1:05:29) TITANIC - 1:22:11 As Good As It Gets - 1:46:55 Perfecting Perfection - 2:00:00 Again, unlike last week, ALL FILMS IN THIS EPISODE ARE DISCUSSED WITH SPOILERS. (FYI… most of our podcasts will be free of spoilers, but in an effort to really dig into some of these reviews, we plan to release a Spoiler Full pod from time to time.) This episode brings you our first Oscar Retrospective, focusing on the 1997 Best Picture race. We open with a Year in Review and Award Season Recap, flow into the bulk of the episode with 5 reviews of each of the nominated films, and conclude by re-ranking the category itself and discussing our top films of the year. We have the audacity to call this final segment, Perfecting Perfection. Each film review starts with a Production Profile, full of all the essential and weird detail one can unearth. We then build each review segment to a best scene/worst scene discussion and save the overall grades for our ranking segments at the end, for posterity. Included in our reviews this week, we discuss the soulful art of Irish nicknaming and Tom Wilkinson's dance moves in our chat about The Full Monty. With LA Confidential, we try to pronounce Kim Basinger, and we should've known who the villain was all along. We compare Good Will Hunting to classic rock, and we hate on Harvard guys at bars who like apples. Then with our centerpiece, we discuss Titanic as it's celebrating a 20th anniversary as perhaps the most successful film of all recorded time, and our debate rightly comes to blows over the merits of Billy Zane's hairpiece. We conclude the review section with dueling rants on the awful final scenes in As Good As It Gets, and Mike puts the suffix -gasm- on words where the suffix -gasm- shouldn't go. We encourage you to contact us with any comments, questions, requests, beefs, or overall feedback. Who knows?! We may read your email on the show. We are members of a species that is a global society of Human Beings, yet we separate ourselves according to often ancient cartographical designations. We seem to kill ourselves in droves because of these imaginary lines, despite our daily understandings eye-to-eye & face-to-face. We must remove ourselves from these & other imposed paradigms & become in practice the single species that We are. We do this by beginning such a shift internally, allowing for a certain positivity & optimism to permeate our beings until it then affects our daily Lives, our households, our villages, neighborhoods & towns, our cities, our states, our countries, & our continents. Only then will We be unified as one, & We will no longer concern ourselves with foes, as the only foe We see will be the one that has always been the dominating force of evil in this world: the foe that lives in all our hearts: one that teaches us of selfishness, of greed, of malice, jealousy, & deceit. Radio for the Blind is a serial written as a message in communication to the members of the Global South. The Global South is comprised of the impoverished People of the world. Our planet currently perpetuates a system that is designed to keep the impoverished subservient & downtrodden; this system is prolonged by the acceptance & participation of the People. Freedom from this system will be difficult, but not impossible. We must have Hope. We must have Love.
