Buckle up for a wildly funny ride! This week on That Was Wild, Adam Macias welcomes comedian Mort Burke, co-host of Rebrand, to break down some of the most absurd and laugh-out-loud moments from the chaotic world we live in:
Building resiliency, in part by decoupling the US economy from China's, is essential to our long-term security. China is doing the same thing. Yet China's export business is booming, and it dominates trade with other emerging markets. Is a communist nation beating us at capitalism?

A BONUS for ya, as we start talking about defense mechanisms. We take on roles of employer or employee, and the defense mechanisms that allow us to maintain our assigned roles "for safety" flow from there. CHEERS FUCKERS
This week we continue a long series with some really serious philosophical implications. Is the internet truly dead as some may fear? Or are we just interacting with fake robots in and out of the digital space? And what is Main Character syndrome? Tune in as we do part two of a long discussion starting with how one person on the internet thinks they've got it all figured out. We're live at sea! lizzie and Cindy recorded this episode onboard Cayamo, which is a singer/songwriter cruise that's been sailing yearly since 2008 and is one of the best music festivals we've attended. AND it's another edition of FOLK DEBATE CLUB. This time it's Community vs Capitalism! Our panel features Jenny Owen Youngs (musician and co-host of Buffy the Vampire Slayer podcast, Buffering the Vampire Slayer), Amy Reitnouer Jacobs (Co-Founder / Executive Director of The Bluegrass Situation) and Natalie Dean (Director of Events at Sixthman, which presents Cayamo). We talk about both through the lens of folk music and the music industry at large. Community building amongst folk artists and fans in authentic and unique ways will help drive your passion. Organically finding community through event production, online presence or music promotion is at the core of folk culture. Community trust and cultural diversity are key in ensuring that folk music artists will thrive in our Capitalistic society. How do you build that trust among your audience in a way that allows them to build trust with each other? How do you stay true to your values while being able to pay for your life? How have musical community leaders cultivated their particular communities? Capitalism is our current reality, but it historically has not mixed well with Community. Clearly, one must be pursued vigorously more than the other! Or does it? Is there a way that these two can live side by side in folk music? If you are listening to this or reading this right now, I can make this assumption: You want to support music financially and with your heart. Music is something that sustains our lives, but it's also a profession and something people consume. Last week unrest broke out in China, seemingly in response to attempts by the Chinese authorities to dismantle parts of Najiaying mosque in Nagu, a town in Yunnan province. The province predominantly houses the Hui Muslims. But on what grounds, has the Chinese government labelled these mosques as "illegal religious education"? And like the Huis and Uighurs, the Ahmadis in Pakistan remain a persecuted community. How does the persecution of a religious minority in an Islamic country like Pakistan differ from persecution in a country like China that claims itself to be ‘athiest'?

It seems every movie is a sequel or another rendition of long established characters and stories. The same could be said for music as well. Is our entertainment industry in a collective funk? Why do we keep seeing the same old same old, but only with new actors? Has creativity bottomed in the United States? If so, what does that say about the future? Or is there something else happening? In this week's Trading Perspectives, Sam, Courtney and John ponder why everything seems to be a remake. John also realizes just how old he really is.
In this episode of Money Tales, our guest is Kasey Lundquist. When Kasey was growing up, she worked really hard to make the club volleyball team. She was excited when she achieved this goal, but there was a problem. Club volleyball would cost $2,000 per year. That was outside of what her parents could afford. Kasey shares that she felt crushed by that. It was the first thing in her life that she really wanted to do, and money got in the way. Kasey decided then and there that she didn't ever want to be in a position like that where she couldn't do something because she didn't have the money for it. Kasey is co-founder and GP of Rise Together Ventures, a hybrid venture and philanthropy firm that empowers growth stage companies to reimagine the ways their business assets and core strengths can be used to drive social change. Kasey started her career in investment banking and private equity and made the switch to startup operations after earning her MBA. She has worked at pre-revenue, early-stage companies and large venture backed scale-ups, most recently as the head of vehicle operations, EMEA for Bird before making the switch back to the investing side. She enjoys traveling and experiencing other cultures, and has lived in NYC, Chicago, LA and Amsterdam. Kasey received her BA from Duke University and her MBA from the Kellogg School of Management. Kasey currently lives in Santa Barbara and is a proud mom of two kids. See all episodes >

We discuss the frequency of mass shootings, the current state of social media, and we draw some lines between current social climates and the war on drugs. We also talk about Capitalistic systems and spaces that violate the rules—like this podcast. We discuss the ongoing January 6th hearings and the insurrection that spurred them, mass shootings, social media, the art of self-deception, political polarization, long term issues related to the COVID lockdowns, atheism, the idea of community in the digital era, and (hopefully) we will explain why these things are all related.

Some loose context on the origins of this May 'celebration' ~ Why knowing this information may help relieve grief and anxiety due to the expectations of us a a society for this holiday. And of course, some comic relief. At least for me. If you are struggling today, this is for you. We hope it helps~ May we celebrate every day. G
Poem: “I Hear America Singing” – Whitman pays tribute to the people who make America great–its workers.Brief Analysis – Singing is a metaphor for the goods and services produced by American workers. Whether you consider it a Marxist cry for the workers of the world to unite or a celebration of the Capitalistic notion that each man's work is his own is open to interpretation (I lean to the latter). America is an example of synechdoche, with the whole representing the parts.TakeawaysThere are plenty of Whitman poems to teachWhitman's poetry was revolutionary for its celebration of the common personIt's ok to celebrate yourselfLinksPoetry Collections at ELACommonCoreLessonPlans.comFigurative Language in Poetry Lesson PlanTheme in Poetry Lesson Plan Walt Whitman Page

Hi Mind Grind Podcast Family! Here's a topic that is not only really important from a mental health standpoint, but we also think you'll enjoy it! We talk about the differences between Confidence and Cockiness, and how to spot them - both in yourself and in others. These can seem to resemble each other, especially in a Capitalistic society that often asks for presentation over authenticity. There are ways to learn how to stand more in yourself from a confident place where you're allowed to take up space - and it isn't cocky. We also consider how to respond to cocky behavior in general with a different approach, knowing that we don't need to judge these defense mechanisms, but be mindful of these. Find the time, come and unwind to The Mind Grind! Beth & Dana
I hear a lot of accusations... about the US being a feudalistic and oppressive society. Capitalistic monarchs suppressing the serfs of today... but I wanted to zoom in on an actual feudalistic society and its characteristics that existed for years prior to their infamous revolution... Russia. Let us really compare and contrast the systems and conditions in the late 19th and early 20th centuries vs. today. I will further extrapolate on the Russian Revolution that changed everything... for better or for worse? Vladimir Lenin and The Bolsheviks led the charge... in hopes of their communist utopia... and Mr. Lenin will go down in history as one of the most cruel and evil dictators to walk the land. Me personally, I don't remember learning any of this crap at all in school... It should be an absolute requirement to learn about the political structures and ideas that replaced the last Czar of Russia and caused the death of millions of lives. Part 1... enjoy. Or not. Joseph Stalin... is next. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/unveiledpatriot/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/unveiledpatriot/support

WWI was one of the most pointless wars in the history of mankind. But it did serve to prove one point, namely, that try as they may, society will always look at Jews as social pariahs. It didn't matter that Jewish deaths in the war were proportional to their numbers in the population or that the wealthy industrialist Walther Rathenau used his resources and ingenuity to give Germany a lease on life during the war and even negotiated on its behalf after the war. Like Rathenau, Jewish credibility was dead shortly after. As the 20's raged on in the Weimar Republic, with a sexual revolution and progressive values at the helm—much like today btw—the value of Jewish life was deteriorating as fast as the value of the Frank against the dollar. But while the government was able to print more money to keep the economy afloat a little longer and prepare the nation for the next war, there was nothing that could prepare the Jews for what was to come. Capitalistic assimilationism, socialist Zionism, or isolationist orthodoxism - whatever you call it, a Jew devoid of his mission is always going to have trouble. Flamethrowers anyone? #israel #thetribe #antisemitism #judaism #worldwarone #worldwartwo #nazism #zionism
