Sam Johnson Wild Bearings, LLC is an extension of my passion for the outdoors and the habit of living “slightly” on the edge with my safety clicked off. My biggest passion is remote fly fishing, as well as writing about the waters of the Appalachians, Rockies and Sierras. My rod of choice is bamboo, so another passion is making, collecting, selling and fishing them. Also worth mentioning is my role as Executive Producer and Co-host of Wild Bearings Outdoors, a TV show that takes viewers to exotic fly-fishing destinations and showcases their history, lore and angling opportunities. The show premiered in 2023 and airs on The Country Network. One other bad habit of mime is playing the bagpipes, and as a member of John Mohr Mackintosh Pipes & Drums in Atlanta, I spend a lot of time performing around the country. When not chasing things in the wild, or making outdoor films, I'm a partner in a boutique transaction advisory practice that helps late stage emerging growth, and lower mid-market companies, prepare for, and execute buy / sell transactions. I also sit on several corporate and non-profit boards. But in the end, when it's all said and done, I just want to be known as a red-blooded, flag waving American, performer, traveler, kilted fly fisherman, talker, loyal friend, gentleman, do-gooder, mountain man, Christian and an occasional prevaricator. I've also been described using slightly stronger adjectives, but fortunately they're in a slight minority! Chris Sloan Growing up in a very small town in Texas was cool, especially since we lived just a few miles from Lake Lewisville. Total population 3,000 meant small town, small community, and great outdoor activities abound. I grew up bass fishing not only on Lake Lewisville, but my uncle had property in east Texas that had a 23-acre private lake where the bass were huge, the crappie fat, and the brim aggressive. I met my better half in that small town and 40 years later we are still Texas strong. Not long after college I got into golf and enjoyed playing for many years. But about 2014 a bug (pun intended) jumped up and hooked me with an even greater sport… fly fishing! I was always curious about the sport and it wasn't until I met Sam, who is a true fly fishing pioneer, that the dream of learning how to fly fish became a reality. I truly enjoy the nostalgia of the sport and especially the history of fly tying and bamboo rods. Wild Bearings is a dream come true that allows me to hopefully leave a little something behind to the sport while passing on what I've learned to the newer generations of future historians that will write their own stories someday. We discuss that mental aspect of that, plus much more with the pitmaster of Fergolicious BBQ and Marketing/PR director of Proud Souls BBQ & Provisions on Episode 222 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Podcast. “Fergie” says even seasoned veterans like himself can be puzzled by scoring at times and says sometimes you just have to shake your head and move on. He gives us a rundown on the rebranding of his line of seasonings, an upcoming class this weekend he and Sterling Smith are teaching, a recent win for his pupil on The Country Network program BBQ Country and the latest news from Proud Souls BBQ & Provisions Kansas City. Rocci Stucci and Tim (TK) Klund officially kicked off Battle Scars Podcast at The Country Network in Fort Worth, TX. Their first guest was B. Taylor Ambassador. You can catch the episode HERE:Going into the second episode, we're honored to sit down with WWII Iwo Jima Veteran Don Graves. Saturday, March 4th at 6PM CST.For most it's an iconic moment captured in a timeless photo and placed in just about every U.S. history book in existence: that moment a group of United States Marines planted the American Flag on the peak of Iwo Jima during World War II.It's an image of patriotism for most, but for Don Graves it's a memory that still lives as clearly in his mind as it did the day after he stood just feet away from that flag being planted in the rocks.“That was my Colonel's flag,” said Graves who was 19 when he and his unit fought in that infamous battle. “He gave it to Lt. Schrier and said, ‘put this up Harold. Get some boys together, and put it up for me.'”Graves, who's now in his 90's, said gunfire was raining down on him and his fellow marines as they took in the sight of that flag being planted on the Japanese island; a battle that ended up being a major step in victory during the war.https://battlescarspodcast.comhttps://butverve.comhttps://romikadesigns.com

Not many can say they've shared the stage with the likes of Carrie Underwood, and Howie is one of even fewer who can say they were handpicked to do so at the age of 5; while other kids were learning how to ride a bike, she was teaching people to expect the unexpected whenever they hear the name Payton Howie. Her music has been highlighted by leaders in the industry, including “Never Go Home” featured on Spotify's Fresh Finds Country: Best of 2021 and Country Rock playlists, and “Country Before Me” featured by COWGIRL Magazine and CMT. In this episode of Bourbon With Friends. The BWF team sits down with Country Music Artist and Veteran Ryan Weaver. Ryan's personal story is like no other artist in country music today. Growing up with a family of eleven in a small town in Floral City, Florida, he joined the Army right after high school. After several years of working as a Military Intelligence Analyst, Ryan followed in the footsteps of his two older brothers, Steve and Aaron, by attending Warrant Officer Candidate School and flight school. He graduated top of his class in flight school, becoming a Black Hawk Aviator. In April 2003, he deployed to Baghdad International Airport in Iraq. Shortly after, one of his brothers, Aaron, was deployed just west of him in Fallujah. On January 8, 2004, Aaron was killed in action when the Medivac helicopter he was a passenger in was shot down by enemy fire. Ryan certainly understood mortality and the risks of combat… After all, Aaron had survived the bloody 1993 battle in Mogadishu, Somalia – the same battle that became the basis for the movie, Black Hawk Down. When Aaron died, however, something changed for Ryan. He returned from combat, taking a new position training the next generation of Army aviators and officers at Fort Rucker, Alabama and has not piloted a Black Hawk since that fateful day. On December 17, 2013 Ryan's brother-in-law, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Randy Billings, was killed in action in Afghanistan when the Black Hawk helicopter he was piloting was shot down by an enemy ground-detonated explosive device. This second heartbreaking loss made the Weaver family a two-time Gold Star family. Both of his brothers' ultimate sacrifices continue to fuel Ryan's fire to accomplish his dreams in music. In late 2016, Ryan released the music video for his single “Burn,” featuring Kris “Tanto” Paranto and John “Tig” Tiegen from the movie 13 Hours: Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. “Burn” aired nationwide on The Country Network and Heartland, and internationally at over 5,000 retailers, restaurants, and entertainment venues throughout the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017. Ryan's first music video “Crank It” played nationally on ZUUS Country TV and TNN/Heartland Network and spent 8 weeks on their Top 10 Video Countdown – a network record. In 2017, Ryan was named the Patriotic Voice of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) for their Celebrate America Campaign. The World Finals is the biggest global stage in professional bull riding – a booming sport now seen in more than 400 million homes worldwide. The Celebrate America Campaign is a season-long initiative that honors America's heroes, inspires youth, and brings communities together. Weaver made his debut in the primetime performance slot, which was previously held by Aerosmith's Steven Tyler in 2016. At that time, the PBR officially launched Ryan as a PBR artist and debuted his new EP entitled Celebrate America. Ryan worked closely with hit songwriter Wynn Varble on the Celebrate America EP, co-writing three of the four songs. He has toured the U.S. and internationally to Australia with the PBR in 2018 and 2019, performing his songs and singing the “National Anthem” at US events. He has several performances scheduled in Australia this year. Ryan performed on the first single from the West Point Military Academy's Benny Havens Band's debut album Songs That Save Our Lives. The song was short-listed for GRAMMY Award consideration in the American Roots category. The album also featured Charlie Daniels. She continues to tour heavily through the midwest and Gulf Coast regions.JOHN PAYCHECKJohn PayCheck is just a guy trying to enjoy country music and have fun with some other rowdy musicians while continuing to carry on the music traditions his father left behind. He also just happens to be the son of a country music legend, a combat veteran, any Army helicopter and fixed wing pilot, a firefighter, a civil servant, a computer engineer, a musician, a small business owner, comic book collector, board game nerd, rodeo lover, horse lover, a whiskey drinker and a pretty darn good guy....oh and he some how finds time to be a father and husband.John has been a part of the music business for years and only recently decided to jump back in after some encouragement from friends in the music industry. John started out working for his dad every summer as a kid. Working his way up from roadie to road manager. He played in a few different bands for fun while pursuing his other interests outside music like finishing his Bachelors of Science in Computer Information Systems and his Masters in Military Strategy and Diplomacy. To top it all off he is married to his wife Samantha,a combat veteran, and together they are raising three wonderful girls. Flying planes and helicopters, working with computers at IBM and raising a family just wasn't enough for him though, he missed the road and music.

In late 2016, Ryan released the music video for his single “Burn,” featuring Kris “Tanto” Paronto and John “Tig” Tiegen from the movie 13 Hours: Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. Ryan performed on the first single from the West Point Military Academy's Benny Havens Band's debut album Songs That Save Our Lives. The song was short-listed for GRAMMY Award consideration in the American Roots category. The album also featured Charlie Daniels.
