When there is a lack of clear expectations, when there is a misunderstanding, that typically leads to some type of disconnect. How you bridge that is truly through understanding how people communicate.”    “If somebody is not fulfilled, even if they're getting paid what they want to get paid, but they're not fulfilled in other ways and there aren't growth opportunities, they will leave.”    “We have to be what I like to call ‘generationally curious' and I think that's a true leadership skillset.”    “And I always ask [leaders] ‘what happens if you don't?' Things are not changing, they've already changed. And so are you going to be ahead of the curve? Are you going to be ahead of your peers or are you going to kind of sit back and see what happens and then risk being farther behind in 10 years? And usually that snaps them into attention.”

If you're constantly hiring but still coming up short, the issue might not be the labour market. It might be something deeper—a generational disconnect that's quietly eroding trust, productivity, and retention. In today's trades workplaces, it's common to see four generations working side by side. You've got veteran employees who've built the company's foundation and younger workers who bring new skills and expectations to the table. When leaders don't know how to bridge those differences, communication suffers, accountability slips, and your best people start walking out the door. We see this play out all the time—especially in companies that promote top performers into leadership roles without giving them the tools to lead a multi-generational team. That's where culture either grows stronger or starts to fracture. In this episode of The People Strategy Podcast, Traci Austin sits with Kamber Parker Bowden, founder of Generational Performance Solutions, to talk about what trade organizations can do differently. Kamber brings hard-earned insight from over 5,000 interviews across 65+ industries—offering clear, actionable steps for creating a workplace where every generation feels seen, respected, and committed to the work. This is a conversation about leadership in the real world—messy, human, and worth getting right.

Přišel půl roku poté, co Babiš koupil vydavatelství Mafra a s ním i Lidové noviny.

Abstract: Lexical stress is an essential element of prosody. Mastering this prosodic feature is challenging, especially in a stress-free foreign language for individuals native to a stress-fixed language, a phenomenon referred to as stress deafness. By using functional magnetic resonance imaging, we elucidated the neuronal underpinnings of stress processing in a stress-free foreign language, and determined the underlying mechanism of stress deafness. Here, we contrasted behavioral and hemodynamic responses revealed by native speakers of a stress-free (German; N = 38) and a stress-fixed (French; N = 47) language while discriminating pairs of words in a stress-free foreign language (Spanish). Consistent with the stress deafness phenomenon, French speakers performed worse than German speakers in discriminating Spanish words based on cues of stress but not of vowel. Whole-brain analyses revealed widespread bilateral networks (cerebral regions including frontal, temporal and parietal areas as well as insular, subcortical and cerebellar structures), overlapping with the ones previously associated with stress processing within native languages. Moreover, our results provide evidence that the structures pertaining to a right-lateralized attention system (i.e., middle frontal gyrus, anterior insula) and the Default Mode Network modulate stress processing as a function of the proficiency level. In comparison to the German speakers, the French speakers activated the attention system and deactivated the Default Mode Network to a stronger degree, reflecting attentive engagement, likely a compensatory mechanism underlying the stress-deaf brain. The mechanism modulating stress processing argues for a rightward lateralization, indeed overlapping with the location covered by the dorsal stream but remaining unspecific to speech. Digital procurement is no longer a ‘next level' approach to spend and supplier management. Digitized procurement processes have fast become the table stakes for any procurement team that hopes to become a true business partner.  And yet, procurement often still struggles to ‘connect the dots' between multiple strategic and technical considerations - a business-wide effort. In a recent LinkedIn Snap Poll, Art of Procurement community members told us that alignment with the business is the most important input to digital transformation. That in and of itself is an important indication of procurement maturity. This episode features a recent AOP Live session where Philip Ideson was joined by Alpar Kamber, Julie Brignac, and Chris Eyerman from WNS Denali. They took the opportunity to dig deeper into the connection between alignment with the business and procurement's digital transformation goals. They discussed: What the concept of a digital ecosystem really means - to procurement and to the rest of the company How procurement should perceive the connections between digital transformation and their own maturity journey The important role that experienced and objective third parties can play in accelerating both transformation and maturation

She shares of how the Lord has healed her from feeling broken in singleness to embracing where He has her. God has brought sweet friendships into her life that have challenged her, informed her, and given her the opportunity to see people the way that He does. It is a sweet and fun story that she shared with us. Give it a listen today. Share it with someone who could be encouraged by it! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thetestament/support

"Photography is magic…it has incredible and really unparalleled power to represent and define people, communities, and individuals...kids see that and they want to do that and they want to be part of that." Former conflict photographer Michael Kamber founded the Bronx Documentary Center. The BDC is dedicated to providing free photographic education to Bronx middle and high schoolers, as well as education for adult Bronx photographers. Michael believes in the value of photography to educate and inform and he also believes that anyone willing to put in the work should have a place to learn the craft and share their work with their peers and that money should not be a barrier to learning. Opening the BDC was the fulfillment of an idea that he and his fellow photojournalist and friend, Tim Hetherington, had talked about and they had even picked the site before Hetherington was killed by artillery fire in Libya in 2011. The first show honored Hetherington's work. Tom Kamber (@thomaskamber) is the founder and executive director of OATS, where he has helped over 20,000 senior citizens get online, built more than 30 free technology centers, created the seniorplanet.org digital community, and launched the Senior Planet Exploration Center—the country's first technology-themed community center for older adults. His work has been covered in major national media, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Washington Post, National Public Radio, Univision, MSNBC, and the TODAY Show. Tom is active in shaping technology policy and serves on the City of New York's Broadband Task Force, and on the State of New York's Broadband Adoption Task Force. Tom teaches courses on social entrepreneurship and philanthropy at Columbia University and has published widely in academic journals on topics including housing policy, crime and geography, advertising strategy, broadband technology, and technology adoption by senior citizens. Prior to founding OATS, Tom worked as a tenant organizer working with low-income residents in Harlem and the South Bronx. He has a B.A. in Latin from Columbia College and a PhD in Political Science from the City University of New York. In this episode, we discussed: key challenges older adults face getting online. how OATS helps older adults use technology to stay engaged and enhance their overall quality of life. specific policy recommendations for ensuring older adults are both connected and actively using technology.  Resources   OATS Senior Planet This Chair Rocks by Ashton Applewhite SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome by Mary Beard NEWS ROUNDUP Missy Ryan, Ellen Nakashima and Karen DeYoung of the Washington Post report that the Obama administration has announced sanctions against Russia for executing cyberattacks on American institutions, including the Democratic National Committee, and releasing sensitive material to the public, in an effort to sway the November presidential election in favor of Donald Trump. The sanctions include the shutting down of two Russian facilities in Maryland and on Long Island which U.S. officials believe were used to collect intelligence. President Obama also expelled 35 Russian agents believed to be involved in the hacks. The President also said the U.S. may undertake covert activity to undermine Russia. But the Kremlin has vigorously denied the hacks, with Russsian President Vladimir Putin calling President Obama's response "irresponsible diplomacy". Yet, Putin has said Russia will hold off on a tit-for-tat response and not expel U.S. agents working in Russia or close American facilities there, until they see how Trump will respond following the inauguration on January 20th. Camila Domonoske has the story for NPR. Here's the link to the DHS and FBI report on the Russian intrusion, which has been dubbed Grizzly Steppe. Andrew Kramer has a nice piece in the New York Times describing how Russians recruited hackers for its cyberwar against the United States.  -- Ellen Nakashima also reported in the Washington Post that President Obama has signed a bill that would work to split U.S. Cybercommand from the National Security Administration in order to promote administrative efficiency. But the split can't happen unless it is approved by the defense secretary and the chair of the Joint Chiefs of staff, which may or may not happen under the Trump administration.  -- House Speaker Paul Ryan wants to stop sit-ins by members of Congress on the House floor. Speaker Ryan introduced a rules package last week which would attempt to curtail live streaming on the house floor by imposing sanctions of $500 for the first livestreaming offense and $2,500 for each subsequent offense, with ethical citations also a possibility. Back in June, Democrats had live-streamed a sit-in on the House floor to protest Republicans' failure to introduce gun control legislation. The livestream was organized in response to the fact that Republican leaders had turned off tv cameras in the chamber, preventing the public from viewing the sit-in on C-Span.

Kamber Cain grew up in El Dorado Springs, a small rural town in Missouri, but that has not kept her from having big city dreams about singing Country Music. No stranger to the stage, Kamber, born in 1990, has been quite the performer for the majority of her life. Influenced by artists such as Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Martina McBride Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, she has always strived for a piece of the limelight. At the ripe old age of 3, her first stage appearance was with Brian Black. By age 4, Kamber started her singing career and hasn't looked back. She is known for her strong vocals and stage performance. Winning a local competition in Kansas at a Colgate Country Showdown at the age of 14 gave her the opportunity to open at a Country Round-Up Show for Jamie O'Neal, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Billy Dean and headliner LONESTAR. This was only the beginning. She has gone on to qualify ten more years for the Colgate/Texaco Showdown State Competitions held in Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. She has held various titles over the years, including Route 66 Idol, Pittsburg Idol and most recently was named the 2014 Missouri State Fair Idol. She has also performed at the American Royal in Kansas City, MO, the American Idol Experience in Orlando, FL and at numerous other contests and venues. All this, plus continuing her education after high school by attending Belmont University and MSSU, obtaining a Marketing Business Degree. The true goal in life, however, is pursuing music!Kamber was blessed with the awesome opportunity to co-write and record 4 original songs with the mentoring of singer/songwriter/producer Rich McCready, (Co-Owner of McCready Recording Studio) and Nashville's own producer/songwriter, Brian Maher, (Hit Co-Writer for Justin Moore's "Small Town USA" and "Til My Last Day".) Tracks were perfected at Benchmark Sound Studio in Nashville and 4 amazing songs were born! Kamber has also started co-writing songs with Don Quinn and Elise Thornton out of Mississippi. These songs can be found on sites such as iTunes, CD Baby, Amazon, Reverbnation, Google Music, among others.Kamber was also blessed with doing her very first music video in the Summer of 2013 for her song "Ain't Nothin Like A Night Like This," with the help of Mark Alan Peters, Mike Stryker (Casting Life Films) and Darren Williams (Blue Conduit Films) from Nashville, TN. The video turned out amazing and really captivates who Kamber is as a person. Kamber has also finished up with the filming of another music video for her song called "Maybe I Just Might." It was filmed in Nashville, TN by the same video crew. The music video was released online on September 30, 2014. Be sure and check it out!Kamber has recently been featured on such websites as "Today's Best Country Music Videos", "Country Rise" and "Visit MO". She has also had one of her songs, "Ain't Nothin Like A Night Like This", placed in Season 2, Episode 7 of the Hit Show "House of Cards." In March 2014, Kamber was one of Reverbnation's Featured Artist's of the Week! She is also frequently played on some Missouri radio stations, along with some online radio stations, such as "Music Road Radio" and "The Iceman's Cavern".Kamber's plans for the future include writing and recording more songs while pursuing her lifelong dream of a Country Music Career.
