In this episode, we are speaking with Courtney Gray, a weight loss coach for women who want to lose weight permanently.  In her program she uses mindset and strategy, and her clients lose weight without deprivation and giving up all the foods they love.   Courtney believes that how women feel about their body reflects out to all areas of their life.  This is why, after her clients lose weight with her process, they find their whole life up levels.  They feel more confident, empowered, and at peace in every area. Courtney believes something amazing happens when women decide how they want to look and feel in their body and then they start living in a way that supports that vision.  Not by going on a diet or restricting themselves to lose weight and then eventually gaining it back.  This is not the way.  She works with her clients to choose powerful new habits that they can implement and sustain for the rest of their lives.   Courtney's coaching centers around mindset and self-mage.  She believes that a person's thoughts create their habits and daily routines, which create the results in their life.  Courtney believes that when women learn how to intentionally think and choose what they want to believe, their life levels up in every way. When it comes to helping her clients lose weight for the last time, Courtney believes it is an exciting, loving, and transformational process. Courtney Carver's book Soulful Simplicity really changed how I think about “stuff.” I have been on a minimalist trend for years, but Courtney's story really resonated with me. On overachiever in work and life, Courtney had developed an autoimmune condition that led her to re-examine her life -- the result led to a simpler lifestyle, which led to a blog, a book, another book, and a whole movement that's brought a lot of people a lot more health and joy. I go back and read Soulful Simplicity a lot, because her messages about having more with less have brought so much Vitamin Joy to my life. It was an honor to talk with her about the joy of simplicity and minimalism -- both emotional and physical -- and we even got into the joy of sobriety, adding to the insights other guests have shared this season. Courtney Friel: Surviving Addiction and a Pandemic as a News Anchor   Courtney Friel is news anchor, best selling author and sobriety warrior who's been in recovery for more than 10 years. I first met Courtney when I was interviewing different individuals for my book The Heart of Recovery.    Courtney's recovery journey.  It was a 15 year party lifestyle for Courtney when she was working as a news anchor and reporter.  Courtney had a work hard play hard identity. The parties she attended were characterised by alcohol, cocaine and pills.  It was through an intervention of her husband (now ex) and other friends that she accepted getting into rehab.  But before the intervention, Courtney, having already witnessed so many celebrities die from drug abuse, had already contemplated the thought of sobering up, but lacked the strength to do so.  It was during the aftermath of a party she had attended in Florida where she had passed out half naked on the floor that she finally got the strength and support she needed to attend rehab.  Courtney decided she deserved more than who she had become, and still had so much to give to the world. With one last drink, she said goodbye to the party life and hasn't looked back ever since.    Staying sober. The one thing that has helped Courtney in her 10 year sobriety journey is that she has a lot to draw from in life.  Through meditating, journaling, yoga, church, parenting, social programs and self-help books, Courtney has enough to keep herself busy and occupied.  One thing that got drilled into her belief system at the rehab program is that alcohol or substance abuse doesn't help solve any situation. You're only going to wake up to the same problem, only this time, feeling worse than before.  The best way to fight life's adversities is to find and practice new tools to manage the stress and anxiety. In time, these tools shape your habits and build your character.  Managing job related stress.  Working as a news anchor and field reporter can be very draining. For Courtney, she's had to find ways to connect to herself and press refresh when she's overwhelmed by sad and depressing news stories.  She's already had newsmayers and emotional hangovers related to the sad stories that she has to report. Stories that have only grown by the numbers during the current pandemic.  But through her different sobriety tactics, Courtney has learnt to live in the present moment and practice gratitude for all that she's been blessed with.    Having interviewed so many people for both my book and podcast, there's one  common theme surrounding people that have gotten and stayed recovered. The theme surrounds fitness, spirituality, healthy relationships and self-awareness.  Connect with Courtney Website - http://www.courtneyfriel.com/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/CourtneyFriel/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/courtneyfriel/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/courtneyfriel Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/Courtney-Friel/e/B083M4JW9Y%3Fref=dbs_a_mng_rwt_scns_share   Connect with Doug Instagram: @dougbopst Facebook: Doug Bopst Website: www.dougbopst.com/gift   More on Earth Echo Foods/Cacao Bliss: www.earthechofoods.com/dougbopst Use Promo code "Doug" at checkout to receive 15% off your order We are also a proud supporter of Belcampo meats  www.belcampo.com Use Promo code "bopst20" at checkout to receive 20% off your order

*trigger warning: we know this is a heavy topic so please take the space you need for self-care* On today’s episode, the squad will be discussing the maternal mortality crisis in the U.S. The United States has the worst maternal mortality rate of all developed nations and sadly this trend is not an emerging issue. For the past THREE DECADES, the CDC has documented a rise in the national pregnancy-related mortality ratio. We also know that Black mothers are 3 to 4 times more likely to die in childbirth than white women and even more shocking, that 50% of all maternal deaths are considered preventable. Join us as we break down some of the reasons mothers are dying, how our nation is responding, and what we can all do to make birth and postpartum safer for women and babies. We didn’t want to tackle this topic alone so we have brought in our very first TKS guest to help us explore this important issue! Courtney Butts is a Licensed Master Social Worker and certified doula in Dallas TX. Courtney is the Programs Director at an area Domestic Violence agency where she is responsible for the development, planning, and coordination of violence prevention services. Courtney has coupled her passion for working with survivors of domestic violence with her love of pregnant women and is on a mission to lower the maternal mortality rate of Black mothers.
