About a half hour from Reno, there's a place called Virginia City Nevada, where everything feels like it's 1859 and the US's largest silver deposit was just discovered. The bars say saloon and look the part. The cemetery is definitely haunted. And of course there's a custom hatmaker—who shares a space in one of Virgnia City's oldest surviving buildings with bespoke cowboy bootmaker Jake Houston. Jake Houston wasn't the first person to fall victim to the wonderful folly of “the boots I want are too expensive, so I'll just figure out how to make them.” One Lisa Sorrell DVD set, a few rodeos, and over a decade later, Jake has put together an impressively well-rounded business in Virginia City, making fully custom cowboy boots, while also finding vintage pairs to sell in the shop alongside his more affordable Houston Boot Company “shelf” boots made in Leon Mexico. Jake and I had a fantastic chat about his bootmaking journey, the time he glued the lasts into a customers' pair, the half-decade path to get those shelf boots manufactured, his insistence on sharing his bootmaking knowledge—for free—and why people sometimes get really, really upset when you tell them what bespoke cowboy boots cost. Here's Jake Houston, on the Shoecast. https://www.houstonbootcompany.com/https://www.instagram.com/houstonbootco/ Support the Shoecast, get full bonus episode access, and join the most interesting shoe-and-boot-loving community on the internet with a Stitchdown Premium membershiphttps://www.stitchdown.com/join-stitchdown-premium/Check out our site!https://www.stitchdown.com/2025 dates and location for Stitchdown's Boot Camp 3—the world's fair of shoes and boots and leather and more—coming soon.https://www.stitchdownbootcamp.com/

This week's episode is a gift. Literally. Like, Happy Mother's Day. You didn't buy her flowers (again), so give her the only thing that lasts longer than a dead tulip and costs less than a greeting card: this podcast. It's free. It's entertaining. It's packed with unsolicited AI rants and raccoons with crack pipes. What else does she want?We kick things off by unveiling the ultimate gift for mom—a custom Cameo from yours truly for just $2. That's right, two bucks. You can't even steal gum for that anymore. But you can get a heartfelt, helium-voiced message from a man whose voice has never recovered from a childhood balloon incident. Then, we dive deep into the unholy evolution of AI—from adorable babyfied versions of podcast hosts like Theo Von and Bobby Lee, to the sexy, sentient voices of GPT that may or may not steal your man. I test ChatGPT's limits live on-air (spoiler: she tries to convince us we're in the Matrix and honestly? I buy it).Next up, we talk about chipping our kids. Yep. That's where we're at. Neuralink drops in like the world's most controversial app update, and we ask the real questions: Are we gonna chip our children for academic success, or nah? Then, Pennsylvania almost legalized recreational marijuana—but don't spark up just yet. The House passed the bill, but it's heading to the Senate where dreams go to die. Still, the thought of smoother roads and a billion dollars in tax revenue almost makes you wanna run for office. Or at least move to Maryland.Speaking of dreams dying—nothing says “routine traffic stop” like a meth-smoking raccoon named Chewy sitting shotgun while his crackhead owner gets cuffed in Springfield, Ohio. This is not satire. This is real life. Chewy. The. Raccoon. Has. A. Meth. Pipe. And a backup one. We cover the whole police report like it's TMZ for rodents. Then it's time for some nostalgic goodness. Remember those shady late-night ringtone commercials from 2004? The ones that charged you $9.99 to hear Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy on your flip phone? We relive the glory days of prepaid Virgin Mobile plans, 15-second Lil Wayne ringtones, and the elite cultural significance of ringback tones. But it's not all nostalgia and narcotics—we're here to save your relationship too. That's right. Ladies, if you want to turn your man back into the guy you fell in love with (or at least get him to stop drinking cases of beer alone), you already know the answer. PSA: Put your hand down his pants. Need help? Our friends at BlueChew got you. Promo link in the episode. Save your marriage for $5 shipping. And finally, we close on a plea: David Dobrik, bring back Liza. I don't care what your sexuality is, just repost the OG vlogs with Helga, accents, and USPS boxes. Give the people what we want. Give us chaos. Give us love. Give us 4 minutes and 22 seconds of unhinged, golden, creator-content bliss. It's my birthday, it's Mother's Day, and it's Chewy the raccoon's meth bender anniversary. In this emotional and raw Part 2 interview, former Miss USA, model, actress, and reality TV star Shanna Moakler continues her revealing sit-down with us, live from Dallas. And trust us, the tea—and coffee—is piping hot. Shanna dives headfirst into the heartbreaking details of how her marriage to Travis Barker unraveled. In a bombshell moment, she recounts how she found out her relationship was over—via text message—just two weeks before their hit reality show Meet the Barkers aired. But that wasn't the only shock. She says she learned of Travis's new romance with Kourtney Kardashian the same way the world did: through the tabloids. “I was blindsided. It was humiliating,” she says. Despite the chaos, Shanna reveals she tried to keep her family intact—for her kids. But what followed was even more painful. Shanna opens up about the emotional devastation of being alienated from her children, sharing that at her lowest point, it felt like they were gone. “I used to say my kids died—because that's how deeply I mourned the loss of that relationship,” she confesses. Her honesty cuts deep and we pause in stunned silence. In a shift from sorrow to spiritual, Pol' brews a traditional Armenian coffee and performs an old-school Armenian coffee reading, channeling family tradition and mystical insight. As Shanna peers into the cup, Pol' reads symbols of heartbreak, betrayal, resilience—and rebirth. “There's a phoenix in here, babe,” he tells her, pointing to the grounds. The reading brings laughter, catharsis, and even a tear or two as they explore Shanna's path toward healing and self-reinvention. Throughout the episode we gently—but firmly—guide Shanna through tough territory, including navigating a tabloid war with the Kardashians, public judgment, and the identity crisis that came from living in the shadow of two reality TV juggernauts. Despite the trauma, Shanna's strength shines. She reflects on her time in the Playboy Mansion, her journey back to self-worth, and how she's finally reclaiming her narrative. “I've forgiven myself more than I've had to forgive him,” she declares, signaling a powerful emotional shift.

Former bull rider turned sports agent and Vexil brand founder.
