“A man's got to have a code, a creed to live by.” ~ Patrick DorinsonGuest Bio: For the last 35 years I have been involved in all kinds of political combat all across America and I have the battle scars to prove it. He is a writer, speaker and commentator who unlike many so-called pundits and commentators, has actually been in the arena. This ain't his first rodeo. He was a columnist for the FOX News.com Opinion section on the FOX News website. In the past Patrick appeared on Sean Hannity on the FOX News Channel and on Cavuto on the FOX Business Channel as well as on FOX News.com webcasts. For eight years he hosted his own own radio show, The Cowboy Libertarian on iHeart media's KFBK radio station in Sacramento. He currently can be seen weekly as a Newsmax Contributor. Patrick message is, “A man's got to have a code a creed to live by”. Beginning with the Ten Commandments, mankind has always had a code to live by. Today everyone talks about American values, but have no idea what those values are. It has become a throwaway line politicians use but they too have no idea what it means. Patrick Dorinson reminds us that if you have a code and values you will have the foundation for a moral life. SHOW NOTES: Website: https://ridinfences.com/Facebook: Facebook/Patrick DorinsonTwitter: @RidinBeamerYouTube Channel: Common Sense CowboyREMARKABLE LISTENER SPECIAL OFFER(S):Enjoy saving 30% to 80% on EVERYTHING you order at MyPillow.com with free promo code, “REMARKABLE“. Jeff Johnson said "I'm drawn to open country.  It's where everything becomes clear.  It's where the world makes the most sense.  When I put myself out there, I always return with something new.  The best journeys are those that answer questions that in the beginning, you never thought to ask". (2010 - 180 Degrees South)Whether it's imagining yourself as a cowboy, or some kind of adventurer, riding a motorcycle takes us to a new space and time.  It's hard to explain, isn't it.  As for me, out on the lonely dirt roads up in the mountains, often standing on the pegs and riding slowly, yep, I'm a cowboy.  Just like Jeff Johnson said in that movie, I too am drawn to open country.  Out there, the world does seem to make the most sense.

Ranches can be dangerous places. Unpredictable livestock. Complex machinery. Extreme weather. None of that deterred David McCumber from dedicating a year of his life as a ranch hand up in Montana, even though he had never worked on a ranch. Those twelve months ended up being filled with adventures, lessons and more, enough to fill a book and get it published. Now the managing editor of the Arizona Daily Star newspaper, David joins Russell and Alan to talk about the year he spent in cowboy boots and his book “The Cowboy Way: Seasons of a Montana Ranch.”

Well we have just about finished up our week at the historic and delightful White Stallion Ranch in Tucson Arizona.  Not only did we have course enjoy the wonderful weather and all of the things you can do at one of the premier guest ranches in the country... But we also did a bit of business by signing up five new podcast programs that will start this late winter in spring and I know that you'll be interested in almost all of them. And we did what is called The Cowboy Up podcast and recorded an interview while he was on the touring road with Nashville singer Greg Hager. And in our conversation he gave me a line that I had to write down and I had to talk about... You see there are people with a cowboy way of thinkin' and others that are not. And since I'm a fan and a historian and a lover of the Western tradition that got me to thinking about cowboy thinkin... And with your permission I'd like to share some of that thinkin with you and then like to hear from you and what you think. And make sure you go to GregHager.com to hear some quality original cowboy singin and thinkin. Thanks Stan

I remember every year starting to look at the seers Christmas catalog that came usually just before Thanksgiving.  End it truly was what they often cold in the wishbook.  And since our family was kind of poor we knew we weren't going to get everything on our wishes. I do remember when I asked for a cowboy hat and the play double pistol set that would shoot off paper caps and go bang.   Just like Roy Rogers and all of my heroes that I saw on television in the movies.  To my wonderful amusement and amazement I got it and it is still one of my favorite pictures in my long list of Christmas memories. Well today I introduce my new friend and partner who is a world-class expert on the western way of life and about the life of the cowboy.  So let me introduce you to Stuart of True West magazine who has stories to tell about the lore and legends and even more what it was really like to live the life of a cowboy.  Perhaps today we need a lot more people who believe in and live out the cowboy code in life and business. We've got the signs. This is Rebecca Wanner aka 'BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt with the radio show The Bend Radio Show & Podcast, your news outlet for the latest in the Outdoors & Western Lifestyle! Episode 163 Details     NEWS OUTDOOR RECREATION OUTPACES DOMESTIC ECONOMY GROWTH   The U.S. Department of Commerce just released its latest assessment of the outdoor recreation industry's contribution to the national economy. The result? $1.1 trillion in total economic output during 2022. That's more than oil and gas extraction, and mining, combined. Nationwide, outdoor recreation was responsible for 2.2 percent of the total Gross Domestic Product in 2022, and five million jobs. That's 3.2 percent of total national employment.     2 MEN INDICTED FOR ILLEGAL KILLING, SELLING & SHIPPING EAGLES     After a federal investigation revealed incriminating text messages and PayPal transactions, Travis John Branson and Simon Paul have been charged with multiple felonies for poaching bald and golden eagles in northwestern Montana, as well as selling and shipping their parts, according to Outdoorlife.com. Back on December 7th, a federal grand jury issued an indictment in the U.S. District Court of Montana charging the two men with multiple felonies related to illegally killing, selling, and shipping parts from 3,600 birds including federally protected bald and golden eagles. The federal Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act of 1940 prohibits any take of bald and golden eagles without a special permit from the Department of Interior. According to the indictment, penalties for a first offense of trafficking bald and golden eagles can reach a $5,000 fine and a year in prison. Penalties are elevated for second and subsequent convictions to $10,000 in fines and two years in prison. Additionally, the penalty for conspiracy is a $250,000 fine with up to five years of prison and 3 years of supervised release. Lastly, adding on the penalty of the Lacey Act could add up to five years behind bars, supervised release, and another $20,000 fine. The Lacey Act, signed in 1900 by President William McKinley, the Lacey Act protects plants, fish, and animals by civilly and criminally penalizing those who violate its provisions. Including prohibiting the importation of invasive or harmful species, or their introduction to the environment (for example, zebra mussels into lakes and rivers) according to Outdoorlife.com.         KENT ROLLINS, THE COWBOY COOK Guests: Kent & Shannon Rollins   "SMOKED BOLOGNA" by Kent Rollins ‘Red Rind Steak' would be the name that Kent Rollins's daddy always called Bologna. Kent Rollins shares a recipe that transforms this fine ‘Red Rind Steak' or Beef Bologna into a delicacy that will have you replacing the typical staple meats, like ham, at holidays such as Christmas. This budget-friendly, often overlooked meat, is transformed into a mouth-watering Smoked Bologna. Topped with a respectable glaze, that will have you saying “Move Over Christmas Ham, we're here for the Bologna!” Kent Rollins special sauce is a mixture of brown sugar, honey Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, and coarse ground black pepper. Click Here for Recipe. "BEST SMOKED MEATLOAF" by Kent Rollins This classic comfort food, Meatloaf, is given new life as Kent Rollins mixes a spicy meatloaf that's then tossed in the smoker. Surviving as a rancher is hard for lots of reasons: land has gotten more expensive, corporate farms have gotten more powerful and put pressure on small ranches to expand their operations to stay in business, inflation has driven up the prices of feed and supplies… But for Nate, and for Black ranchers and farmers across the country, ranching is also hard because the USDA, the government agency that they're supposed to be able to turn to for support, instead makes it hard for them to get that support.

I really do try to get guests that I genuinely find interesting and those won't all be horse trainers/breeders/vets. Sometimes we go to the peripheral. Kent Rollins is the King of the Cowboy Cooks. "Can't get full on fancy" is his motto. He's been on more cooking shows than you can count. He's beaten Bobby Flay in a head to head Chicken Fried Steak Competition. He's been named the Official Chuck Wagon of Oklahoma by the Governor.  More than just a pretty face, Kent has also been named the Best Cowboy Humorist and Storyteller of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists. He's the author of 3 cookbooks, "Comfort Food the Cowboy Way," "Faith, Family & the Feast," and "A Taste of Cowboy." Folks, this guy's funny, tanned, grizzled and smoked. We talk about his 1870's chuckwagon, his 385 lb. stove, Bertha, and much more. How did a cowboy cook grow to have one of the largest cooking channels on YouTube with 2.6 million subscribers? This is a really enjoyable conversation and I can't thank Kent enough for taking time out of his very busy schedule. Visit North Dakota this summer, and plan to catch the Chancy Williams Concert and the 144th Mandan Rodeo Days in North Dakota over the Fourth of July!   NEWS Columbia - This was the biggest story last weekend, one that touched all heartstrings. Four children were found last weekend alive in a jungle in Columbia. The siblings had been missing for 40 days following a plane crash that took the life of their mother and pilots. The children were ages 13, 9, 4, and 11 months. They were able to stay alive thanks to the 13-year-olds knowledge of survivor skills.  Small footprints were discovered at the crash site leading search teams to believe the children were still alive in the rainforest, which is home to jaguars, snakes, and other predators. The knowledge of fruits and jungle survival skills kept the siblings alive. Florida - Officials are warning people not to walk dogs near bodies of water, especially as it is alligator mating season. Recently a Florida man saved his dog from an alligator attack. The man was walking the dog along a river bank when an alligator came out of the water and snatched it. The man jumped on top of the alligator and freed his dog. This event spurred the Florida Wildlife Officials again to remind all walking near bodies of water to be on alert and definitely avoid if with pets. Illinois - a 9-year-old Wyoming, Illinois girl has gone viral for catching a Largemouth Bass with a McDonald's Chicken McNugget. The bass weighed 5 lbs. The girl stuck her McNugget on her hook before tossing her lure into a body of water. She reeled the bass in by herself… And this isn't the first time she's been adventurous with her choices of bait. She's had success too with crackers & gummy worms…. LOL… BEC says, HEY - WHATEVER WORKS, and WHATEVER gets kids outside!! FBI WARNING - These things noone is a fan of reporting on however, it is vital that we are all aware and up to date on the latest technology, especially when it could be a potential threat. The FBI is warning people to be careful when posting selfies online. Scammers and hackers are stealing the photos and then using artificial intelligence (AI) and deepfake technology to extort people. This is BAD stuff. The scam artists are placing people's faces on other people's naked bodies in which they then threaten to send pictures or videos to the victim's friends, family, and co-workers.  The FBI says the scammers ask for money to not send the fake, X-rated material. THIS is a topic to discuss with your family too as our youth are becoming younger and younger having full access to various social media as well as with the elderly.  One tip that BEC can offer is that before sharing photos on social media, like Facebook or Instagram, Snapchat, BeReal, etc... Take the time now to check your privacy settings, so that you are ONLY sharing information with people you want to be and to keep a close eye on your social media Friends Lists, that there have not been “Ghost accounts” created mirroring someone else which was added to your crew when they should not have been     COOKING, FISHING & WILDLIFE QUESTIONS Tigger has reviewed the vast number of questions received from listeners and fans of The Bend Show. BEC is a huge pickle fan, and where she is from - You love Ranch Dressing and DILL PICKLES of all varieties! The newest Pickle trend is the answer to your need for an easy recipe or easy appetizer. Dip mini or petite dill pickles into warm, melted chocolate and then set on wax paper to harden. If using Kosher pickles, dip them into the warmed chocolate and then roll the pickles in sea salt and let harden. As mentioned, if you know BEC she will be surprising all of her family and friends this summer with this easy Fourth of July appetizer recipe! If you have a fondue pot, consider this as a fun activity too for the kids. So many possibilities with these Pickle Recipes.   Drinking Alcohol and Mosquitos. Another trend across social media has been debunked, drinking Gin & Tonic - we are sorry to report will not WARD OFF mosquitos! BEC & Tigger have heard of many reasons to have a cocktail or two, but not this one until I was approached and then had to investigate. It turns out that drinking alcohol actually makes you slightly more attractive to those biting skeeters, mosquitos. It is advised the best thing one can do is buy a true repellent. Personally, after trying many things; Tigger & BEC have weighed the pros and cons of tick-related diseases such as Lyme disease, one that is often overlooked by the medical world, and now stockpile their household with insect repellents that contain DEET. We know that some of you listening will not agree, and that is OKAY it has just been our family's decision to go after a Deep Woods product that contains preferably 40% Deet. Regardless, this year be sure to NOT be drinking that Gin & Tonic in hopes of warding off the mosquitos, and do plan ahead with some sort of bug repellent!   FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS Call or Text your questions, comments to 305-900-BEND or 305-900-2363 Or email BendRadioShow@gmail.com FOLLOW Facebook/Instagram: @thebendshow   SUBSCRIBE to The Bend YouTube Channel.   Website: TheBendShow.com https://thebendshow.com/ #catchBECifyoucan #tiggerandbec #outdoors #travel The Outdoors, Rural America And Conservation are Center-Stage. Hello, and welcome to another episode of the podcast. I'm excited to have an interview with Kent Rollins. Kent and his wife Shannon lead a busy life slinging hash, beating Bobby Flay on Food Network, and running their YouTube Channel, the Coyboy Kent Rollins Cooking Channel. In their newly released book Comfort Food the Cowboy Way, Kent shares over 125 recipes that are equal parts hearty and scrumptious, from their classic Southern and Western favorites to the more spice-forward Tex-Mex and Bayou dishes for backyard grilling and smoking, one-pot meals, and tips to add cowboy twists. All the recipes qualify as true comfort food the cowboy way, are easy to follow, and are meant to be served up family style. Today on the podcast, Kent and I talk about his journey working as a cowboy cook, the success of his YouTube channel, the importance of finding your audience, and doing work that allows you to be the person you were meant to be.  Things We Mention In This Episode: Kent Rollins website Cowboy Kent Rollins YouTube Comfort Food the Cowboy way How to Get Paid to Write a Cookbook free training

Kent and Shannon Rollins are the force behind teaching the world how to cook like a cowboy.  On their YouTube Channel, "Kent Rollins Cowboy Cooking" and their new book, "Comfort Food The Cowboy Way", they share the wisdom, weather and recipes of the American West.   This all started somewhere around 1983 when Kent started cooking for an outfitter in a New Mexico elk camp.  But really, it started much earlier than that when Kent was a kid and in his later years of being a ranch hand.  At some point he traded in the branding iron for the cast iron, and he went to work making sure that cowboys were well fed before and after their long days in the saddle.   There are some traditions of the American West that are thought to be gone, that still exist.  Cooking for cowboys on the range from a chuck wagon is one of those.  In Kent and Shannon's book you get a glimpse of this tradition through the incredible photos that Shannon has taken while they are on ranches cooking.  And in Kent's words, he captures the impact of the weather and how the right meal can ease the burden of facing the harshness of Mother Nature from the saddle all day.

There are some things that just don't go out of style, no matter how much time passes by. That is some of the core values taught by our ancestors that came before us who lived to tell the stories of their day. And we too, are building and creating our stories, the introductions of which often began unfolding early in our youth. At nearly 81 years young, returning guest, Jim Owen still has a lot of living, passion, purpose and stories to share! Determined to get fit in his 70's, the 80-year-old former Wall Street executive, best-selling author of Cowboy Ethics, and Just Move, documentary filmmaker, social entrepreneur, and global speaker, Jim Owen, inspires others through his fitness journey, positive and empowering thoughts about life and living and his recent documentary film, The Art of Aging Well. We unpack his best-selling and highly inspirational book, Cowboy Ethics: What It Takes to Win at Life, and how he came to explore the Code of The West. Jim will tell you he had a fascination with cowboys since his youth and they had forever been his heroes. But it was his ability to cherry pick their core values that truly is astonishing. And as he shares on this show, that isn't just my opinion. His Code of the West was declared as the “Official Code of the West” by the Governor of Wyoming…a high honor indeed! Speaking of honor, Jim's codes aren't just for cowboys and day's gone by. They embody the best of fundamental values, iconic traits for living a life rich with principled beliefs in a modern era. 10 tenets like Courage, Pride, Fairness and Promises, all of which he outlines on the show. The book itself is a work of art and each page wisdom infused stories to back up the reason for the code of ethic. But his resonating message is one of the fact that we all need heroes during this time, and his hope is that the Cowboy Way will inspire everyone to reach for the Hero Within. But he's much more than a cowboy enthusiast and admirer --though admittedly not a cowboy himself, and says quite openly he's even scared of horses. But what he is – is a BOLD life enthusiast and absolute Aging GreatFULLy Role Model! In his book shared on a previous episode, Just Move, he shares his journey from couch potato to fitness by simply making the choice to “move” and encourages everyone to simply do so. His latest project is another powerful one, a multi-segment documentary film, The Art of Aging Well and spotlights everyday super-agers the art of aging itself. Listeners are invited to view it on his website at www.justmoveforlife.com for free, where you can also learn more about all the fascinating and inspiring work he is doing, purchase his books and connect with him.An inspiring show from beginning to end you won't want to miss! In this week's episode, we're featuring the first album in nine years from Nashville transplant Bobby Marquez, "The Cowboy Way" (2018). Hailing from the deep south of Texas, he moved to Nashville in the late 90s to pursue the country music dream. Nicknamed "Smilin'" Bobby Marquez by WSM legend Keith Bilbrey, his positive attitude has come in handy since his move to Music City: signed to two major labels and dropped from both for reasons beyond his control, with some help from his wife and Texas Country Music DJ Hall Of Famer Jennifer Herron, Marquez founded his own label and did things his own way. Playing by his own rules has worked well for him: winning awards and entertaining crowds worldwide with his easy traditional style that brings to mind the heyday of George Strait and Alan Jackson (he's had songs recorded by both) - "The Cowboy Way" is a solid dose of originality, with highlights including the bouncy "What's The Deal"; a great duet with fellow Texan Johnny Rodriguez on one of that man's first hits, "Ridin' My Thumb To Mexico"; a fun opener in "Honky Tonk" and a dedication to his late father-in-law on "The Cowboy Way". Solid.

The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview the cast from INSP's The Cowboy Way: Alabama. Cowboys have graced the landscape of America for centuries, but what do we really know about them?  In the movies, they are depicted as men who ride in, save the day, and then ride off into the sunset. But most people never see the reality of cowboy life: the getting up before dawn to work long hours; the business acumen needed to be a successful rancher, including the uncertainty of income; the sprains, broken bones and aching muscles that go along with the job; and the sacrifices they make to spend quality time with their families.  In INSP's new original series The Cowboy Way: Alabama, viewers get a behind-the-scenes look at the adventures of three young and charismatic cowboys: Bubba Thompson, rancher and expert carpenter; Cody Harris, rodeo champion and cattle dealer; and Chris "Booger” Brown, expert cattleman and horse trainer.  Like the cowboys of old, these three friends ride the open range and live according to an old---fashioned cowboy code as they build their cattle business in South Alabama.  Their days may not be easy, but they wouldn't have it any other way.

We are big fans of both ladies and their show, on which they discuss a wide variety of movies with the perfect mix of insight and humour. It is like hanging our with smart, funny friends. Kat and I can be found on their show this week discussing Bad Girls from 1994. On our show, we stayed in 1994 to chat about The Cowboy Way starring Woody Harrelson and Kiefer Sutherland. We try our best to make sense of this strange film that seems to convey the message that the best way to defeat human trafficking is through rope tricks and line dancing. The audio is a bit all over the place (let's all blame the gremlins at Skype, shall we?) but it's all audible and if you have a fraction of the fun listening to it as we did recording, you'll be in great shape. Oooops, we almost forgot to mention that we've included a half hour of Pretty Little Liars chat on here.
