¡Sigamos creciendo juntos!

Come along this week as we discuss the mysteriousness of Hypnosis!   Support the show on patreon: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=80108564   Hypnosis is a state of focused attention, heightened suggestibility, and deep relaxation that allows individuals to be more open to suggestions and influences. It is often induced by a trained professional, known as a hypnotist, through a process called hypnotic induction. In this state, individuals may become more receptive to changing their behaviors, perceptions, thoughts, and sensations. Hypnosis is often used for therapeutic purposes, such as managing pain, reducing anxiety, overcoming phobias, and addressing various psychological issues. History of Hypnosis: Hypnosis has a long and varied history that spans cultures and time periods. Here are some key points in its history: Ancient Practices: Traces of hypnotic-like practices can be found in ancient civilizations. The Greeks, Egyptians, and Romans all had rituals and practices that resembled what we now recognize as hypnosis. 18th Century: Franz Mesmer, an Austrian physician, is often credited with laying the foundation for modern hypnosis. He developed the concept of "animal magnetism" and used techniques to induce a trance-like state in his patients. While his ideas were later discredited, Mesmer's work influenced the development of hypnosis. 19th Century: James Braid, a Scottish surgeon, coined the term "hypnosis" in the 1840s. He rejected the metaphysical explanations of Mesmer and focused on the psychological and physiological aspects of the phenomenon. Braid's work helped establish hypnosis as a legitimate field of study. Late 19th to Early 20th Century: Hypnosis gained popularity and was used for various purposes, including medical and psychological treatment. Sigmund Freud initially used hypnosis in his psychoanalytic practice but later shifted to other therapeutic techniques. Mid-20th Century: Hypnosis fell out of favor in the medical and psychological communities due to misconceptions and the rise of other therapeutic approaches. However, it continued to be practiced by stage hypnotists and alternative healers. Late 20th Century: Hypnosis regained recognition as a legitimate therapeutic tool. Milton H. Erickson, an American psychiatrist, contributed significantly to the modern understanding of hypnosis by emphasizing the importance of tailored approaches for individual patients. Contemporary Usage: In the modern era, hypnosis is widely used for clinical and therapeutic purposes, often in conjunction with other forms of treatment. It is employed to address various issues, such as chronic pain, anxiety, stress, addiction, and trauma. Mechanisms of Hypnosis: The exact mechanisms underlying hypnosis are still not fully understood. However, it is generally believed to involve alterations in cognitive processing, attention, and suggestibility. While some individuals are more naturally susceptible to hypnosis, anyone with a willingness to participate and follow instructions can potentially experience hypnotic trance. During hypnosis, individuals are guided into a state of deep relaxation and heightened focus. This state may lead to changes in perception, memory, and suggestibility, allowing for the acceptance of therapeutic suggestions that can help address specific issues. It's important to note that while hypnosis can be a valuable therapeutic tool, it is not a magical or supernatural phenomenon. It operates within the bounds of an individual's existing psychological and physiological capacities.

Was habe ich davon? The patient’s unconscious mind is listening and understanding much better than is possible for his conscious mind". Confusion Technique "In all my techniques, almost all, there is a confusion". – Milton H. Erickson[26] Erickson describes the confusion technique of hypnotic induction that he developed as being done either through pantomime or through plays on words. Spoken to attentive listeners with complete earnestness, a burden of constructing a meaning is placed upon the subject, and before they can reject it another statement can be made to hold their attention. One example is offered in which he uses verb tenses to keep the subject “…in a state of constant endeavor to sort out the intended meaning". He offers the following example: One may declare so easily that the present and the past can be so readily summarized by the simple statement "That which is now will soon be yesterday’s future even as it will be tomorrow’s was. Thus the past, the present, and the future all used in reference to the reality of today". Erickson describes the second element of confusion to be the inclusion of irrelevancies and non-sequiturs. Taken in context these verbal distractions are confusing and lead progressively to the subject’s earnest desire for and an actual need to receive some communication they can readily understand. A great example of confusion technique: Derren Brown. Visits a jewelry store and purchases an expensive item. During the payment process, Derren begins asking where the nearest subway station is. He talks about directions, North, South, East, West. He states “I was nervous about taking the subway and a friend told me to just “take it”, as he hands the blank paper bills to the cashier. Much of the following information used from Mike Mandel Hypnosis.com Arguably the greatest hypnotist in history, psychiatrist Milton H. Erickson, was the foremost master of conversational hypnosis, and he developed a lot of unique techniques that we’ll look at. What is Conversational Hypnosis? When you first think of “conversational hypnosis” it tends to sound strange. In reality, a skilled hypnotist is able to induce trance and cause change through what is a seemingly ordinary conversation. This is what we mean by conversational hypnosis. It’s a scientific and systematic method of putting someone in a trance by just talking to them. In case you’re also wondering about covert hypnosis, it is exactly the same thing as conversational hypnosis. The only difference is, when doing covert hypnosis, you’d be more subtle and you would not openly disclose that you’re doing anything hypnotic. Why would anyone do covert hypnosis? Because if you need to help someone change and you don’t think they’d be open to a hypnotic experience, you can still help them through conversation that is hypnotic without explaining that it’s hypnotic. Remember hypnosis is not mind control, and as a conversational hypnotist you can influence people, but you don’t have magical or mysterious powers over them. Conversational Hypnosis Happens Naturally The first thing to realize is that conversational hypnosis is happening all the time! Just telling someone about your vacation, or talking about your childhood will cause hypnotic trance to develop and fade, like waves on a beach. That’s because trance is a completely normal part of life. We go in and out of hypnotic states all the time, we just don’t typically realize it. So is it possible for someone to be in hypnosis without being relaxed, and without having their eyes closed? Yes. That’s because hypnosis, especially conversational hypnosis, is a normal part of life. In fact, we often slip in and out of trance while we are driving, daydreaming,

Wer war also besser? Today, Rhonda and David have the honor and pleasure of interviewing Dr. Jeffrey Zeig, the beloved founder and head of the Milton H. Erickson Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. Every four years, Jeff sponsors the awesome Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference, which draws more than 7,000 mental health professionals to hear all of the most famous and best psychotherapy teachers and innovators in the world to beautiful Anaheim, California for five days. This year, it will be December 9 to 13, 2020. In this far-reaching interview, Jeff talks about the history of psychotherapy, beginning with Freud's work beginning in 1885, all the way up to the first Evolution of Psychotherapy Conference on the 100th anniversary of Freud's origins, in 1985. He explains that up until the beginning of World War II, psychotherapists were focused on the WHY of emotional problems, in spite of the fact that the causes of depression and anxiety were then, and still are, completely unknown. Then, around 1944, therapists began to focus on the question of how we can best help people heal, change, and grow, in spite of the fact that the causes have yet to be discovered. This was a welcome and sensible shift, but led to a proliferation of hundreds of competing "schools" of therapy, most of which claimed to "know" the causes of psychological problems and also claimed to have the "best" treatment methods. Jeff's goal in creating the Evolution conference in 1985 was to bring together the best from all the schools of therapy to share ideas and focus on the common healing factors that all forms of effective therapy share. To Jeff's surprise and delight, the conference was an immediate hit, with more than 7,000 participants from around the world, and was sold out well ahead of time. Jeff also discusses his own creative and imaginative philosophy and approach to therapy, which he describes as a magical experience, requiring great skill, much like a musical creation or theatrical, and not a cookie cutter formula taken from the pages of the latest treatment manual for depression or this or that anxiety disorder. Jeff is one of the pioneers and masters of "indirect hypnosis," which originated with his mentor, Milton Erikson. Jeff fondly and tenderly describes his early days with Milton Erikson, who he describes as a wizard and genius, and likely one of the greatest therapists of all time. Erikson was also an inspiration to Jeff, and to all who had the good fortune of knowing him, because of his own extremely physical limitations caused by polio, and how he transcended those limitations and transformed them into strengths. So, mark your calendars for the Evolution Conference this December 9 - 13. It will be a chance for you to hear and meet many your own therapy heroes first-hand and to learn from superb teachers. I'll be there too, so make sure you say hello. I don' t know yet what topics I will be speaking on, but will post them on my workshop page as soon as I find out. And if you're a struggling, starving student, as I once was, Jeff wants you to know that they will need many helpers at the conference, and the helpers receive generous discounts! Now, that's a deal you can't beat! You'll network with colleagues from around the world in a gorgeous setting. Thanks for listening today, and thanks for all the kind comments and totally awesome questions you submit every day! We greatly appreciate your support! David and Rhonda

A famous psychotherapist, Milton Erickson, explored the concept of utilization, which involves using the reality of your situation to help you, rather than merely analyzing it. It is with this concept in mind that Erickson found the technique of hypnosis to be particularly useful, especially to those with infirmities and other similar predicaments. In the first episode of a series on hypnosis, Dr. Daniel Amen and Tana Amen are joined by Dr. Jeffrey Zeig, founder of the Milton H. Zu Beginn meiner Tätigkeit als Revisorin musste ich feststellen, dass die normalen Regeln des sozialen Miteinanders nicht mehr so funktionierten wie vorher. My guest today, Fred Gallo, is an expert in human psychology who has studied multiple therapy modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, NLP, TFD, and many more. He’s a world expert on a process called "tapping".  I saw firsthand how powerful this method is when it cured my husband’s phobias of heights and water. Connect With Fred: energypsych.com About Dr. Fred Gallo, Ph.D. Fred Gallo on Facebook The Mission Log: [03:50] - Fred talks about who he is and describes his background. He also introduces the concept of tapping. [06:01] - We hear a specific example of how tapping helped one of Fred’s clients. [09:13] - Was Fred surprised by how quickly and powerfully tapping worked for this client? He answers, then discusses another, even more powerful instance in which tapping helped the same client. [12:58] - Fred had worked with this client for many months using different techniques before she achieved the breakthroughs that she achieved through tapping, he explains. [14:57] - Orion points out that Fred started working with a relatively small issue with this client, which built the trust necessary to face the bigger, deeper issue. [16:33] - We hear that Fred has helped Orion’s husband, Stephan, with two deep fears he held: heights and water. Fred goes into depth about how completely Stephan overcame these fears with the help of tapping. [19:10] - Did Fred do another tapping treatment on Stephan before the next canoe ride, or were the effects from the previous session still effective? [21:51] - What are Fred’s spiritual beliefs, and how are they involved in the ways he treats people? As he answers, he shares some incredible things that have happened throughout his life journey, including how he ended up treating Tony Robbins. [27:17] - Fred explains why Tony Robbins thought that he was “the man” before they had met for the first time. [29:03] - Does tapping work (and offer benefits) for everybody? It’s very effective for most people, Fred answers, but a few don’t like it. [31:00] - Fred gives an example of a case in which tapping was a permanent cure for a young woman’s emotional trauma. [38:25] - Orion points out that Fred’s tapping is unique because of his background in other therapies. Fred then explains that while people can do tapping on themselves to some extent, they likely won’t need to. [41:29] - Does Fred feel that some people are attached to their memories and are afraid to let go, perhaps because they are attached to their victim mentality? In his answer, he digs into a case in which a man who was sabotaging his life didn’t believe that he would ever be happy. [48:26] - Visualization isn’t necessary, Fred explains, but explains how it can be helpful. He also offers a strategy for getting around it for people who struggle with visualizing things. [50:55] - Fred talks about his strategies for treating ADHD. [54:45] - Where can people find Fred and learn more about what he does? In this interview, Avner Eisenberg, who performs as Avner the Eccentric, talks about his career and his approach to performing silent comedy. Other topics that come up are creating material appropriate for your character, being easy to work with, and where he finds inspiration. Avner is a clown, juggler, mime, sleight-of hand artist, and actor. He's been featured on TV and as The Jewel in the Movie Jewel of the Nile. He’s been a featured performer at various comedy, magic, and theater festivals world-wide, where he’s won multiple awards like the Edinburgh Festival’s New Faces award, and special jury awards at many other notable festivals. In 2002 he was inducted into the International Clown Hall of Fame. In addition to this, Avner is an instructor in his craft, teaching on physical comedy and silent theater.     Success Mantra Always take a nap before a show.     Avner’s Approach to Comedy • Fear of not being interesting. • Performers and Audiences being afraid of each other. • Be interested, not interesting. • Contract between the audience and performer is to share the same hallucination. • Make them love you and then you can do anything. Even card tricks. • The objective isn’t not to make people laugh. • Laughs can be an interruption that you have to deal with. • A performer should never be foolish, but also never be afraid of looking foolish. • There is no failure, only feedback.     Communicating Without Words • Keep your mouth shut. :) • Make what you’re pretending to do more compelling than what you’re really doing.     Other Topics Covered • Talks about how he accidentally fell into entertainment. • Tells about his the structure of his one-man show. • How he became a silent act. • Talks about a lucky break he received (a glowing NY Times review) and how things took off. • How audiences have changed as well as their expectations. • Keeping his act fresh. • Putting obstacles in the path of the person trying to accomplish a goal. But they have to be obstacles that you can get around. • Where he finds inspiration. • Creating things that fit within your character and killing or modifying things that don’t. • How his show has evolved over his career. • Being easy to work with.     Failure Moment Getting a woman up on stage with him who was sloshed and couldn’t follow directions, so he let her go back to her seat to get someone else up to help out. She turned out to be just as wasted as the first.     Favorite Success A fun and amazing coincidence which only could have happened to Avner. And then in a completely unrelated account, winning a competition he didn’t realize he was competing in.     What’s worked best in building his career? Running on Broadway and playing The Jewel in The Jewel of the Nile. Asking for reviews and building his press kit.     Biggest Professional Challenge Playing the Jewel of the Nile     Interesting Story from the Road Tells a few stores which involve arriving late to a show and having to setup in front of them, another instance where a young girl wet herself on stage, and yet another instance where he was attacked by a drunk man on stage!     Parting Advice Be interested, not interesting. If you can’t succeed every time, learn to fail magnificently.     Recommended books and resources: Note: Many of the links in this section are affiliate links, meaning we earn a small portion of any sales. Skills and experience, research and theory—each plays a critical role in the development of effective therapy practice. And then there is something else. When we recall the work of such figures as Milton Erickson, Virginia Satir and Carl Whitaker, we detect another layer: artistry. Surprisingly, artistry is something that can be taught, or more accurately, expanded or enhanced. Everyone has the capacity. And it is artistry that brings forth all of that skill, experience, research and theory in effective and generative ways. In this lecture, Dr. Jeffrey Zeig identifies the creative patterns of Erickson (and others) and then bring them to life through demonstration, experiential exercises, improvisation and individual and group activities. Attendees will expand their lenses (ways of viewing), strengthen their muscles (ways of doing) and foster greater flexibility (ways of being). Therapists from all disciplines and at every level of experience can benefit. Those who view this lecture will be able to: - Describe the Choice Point model of therapy. - Explain three experiential methods for professional development. - Identify creative patterns of therapeutic interventions. Speaker Bio: Dr. Zeig is the founder and director of the Milton H. Erickson Foundation, having studied intermittently with Dr. Erickson for more than six years. He is the architect of the Evolution of Psychotherapy Conferences, widely regarded both as the world’s largest and its most important conference devoted to psychotherapy. He also organizes the Brief Therapy Conferences, the Couples Conferences and the International Congresses on Ericksonian Approaches to Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. The author, co-author or editor of more than 20 books, Dr. Zeig maintains a private practice in Phoenix, Arizona and is a frequent and in-demand speaker at major universities and teaching hospitals around the world, including the Mayo Clinic, the Menninger Clinic and MD Anderson.
