In this episode, Shelley and Phil, as well as you the listener, are treated to a true music creator, inspired by each wine we're tasting through. Continuing the idea that Phil Mershon shared with us, in this episode, we explore the intersection of wine and music as Barry Aiken lays down a symphony of sound based on what he's tasting. Barry is no one trick pony. He can play it all! In this episode, we talk music, jazz, blues and of course, wine. He even knocks out a deep cut Billy Joel tune, out of the blue! Grab one of these wines or your own, sit back and enjoy this one. #HappyFriday! #ItsWineTIme! #Cheersing #WineIsLikeMusic #EasterEgg Check out the Barry Aiken YouTube channel by visiting https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuFJ4GHrysDJ2pBWLPlRSQAWines this episode:2022 Rivaura Rosé ($19 at the winery)

One of the iconic figures in BBQ joins us on Episode 204 of the Tailgate Guys BBQ Podcast. Ed Maurin was a member of the KCBS Board of Directors in the organization's early days, when he battled the likes of Johnny Trigg, Ray Lampe and Jeff Stehney on the competition circuit. Honing his skills as a Kansas City firefighter, “Fast Eddy” would modify Traeger cookers to his liking, often raising eyebrows - and interest - from fellow competitors. By 1997, Maurin had developed his own line of FEC (Fast Eddy Cookers) that would revolutionize the pellet-cooking industry for restaurants and food trucks worldwide. Ed is still teamed up with Oklahoma-based Cookshack to bring new smokers to the market, with pizza cooking a primary focus these days. He talks his career, plus his passion for Off Road racing in the desert, in an extended conversation before catching a flight for a marathon off road race in Mexico this weekend. Meanwhile, co-hosts Lyndal and Steve discuss their BBQ weeks, review March Madness and the Final Four field and preview the new baseball season. Author Ed Zenisek joined us remotely from Las Cruces, New Mexico to discuss his bariatric journey. Ed's journey was such a wild ride that he decided to write a book about it. Bariatric Surgery: The Best and Worst Decision I Ever Made chronicles Ed and his wife's journey into have the surgery together. From going on the pre-surgical diet together, to navigating the office gauntlet of paperwork and tests, be right there with Ed and his wife as they share with you their story of what having bariatric surgery is like. Ed spoke with us candidly about how he came to be overweight, and how his struggles with weight started at an early age. From watching his father struggle with obesity, to watching complications from diabetes end his grandmothers life early, Ed fought to prevent diabetes and gout from complicating his health. He spoke about how as a child, "Fast Eddy" wasn't concerned about the future of Ed's life. Those were problems for future fast Eddie, not Eddie today. When the time came to pay on that debt, the only thing Ed could do was to do something about his weight. This episode is another mans tale of standing up to obesity and winning. Morris and the other Fast Eddy members point to Motown and '70s classic rock as influences on songs like "Hurricane Alley." Fast Eddy stopped into the CPR Performance Studio to play a few songs. The band members also spoke with Alisha Sweeney about their road trip to Atlanta to record "Toofer One" and what they love about performing in Denver.

Ed Lukowich has been there in Curling. "Fast" Eddy has been central to some of the greatest shifts in the history of the game. He learned to curl in Speers, Saskatchewan, back while the sliding rules were being shaped. Four decades later he won the Moncton 100, the no-hit bonspiel that ushered in the Free Guard Zone era. From the Richardsons to Kevin Martin, he's battled Legends from every living generation. In 1973, with a chance to join a young Paul Savage, Ed may have been one of the first players to move across country solely for a curling opportunity. You might be surprised to hear who Ed nearly replaced on that Ontario squad (rhymes with wrench). In 1978, Ed took advantage of new rules that allowed a Calgary player to team with his Medicine Hat rink, and with Mike Chernoff captured the Macdonald Brier in Vancouver. They also won the event with horsehair push brooms, a first, and with Mike calling the game while Eddy threw fourth stones, something not commonly seen back then. 1988 saw Ed become the first ever mens skip to represent Canada in an Olympics, when curling was a demonstration sport at the Calgary Winter games. Controversy over provincial residence has often been an issue in past seasons, and Ed was embroiled in it in the early 90s when second Rick Vallette shifted his playdown efforts from Saskatchewan to join Lukowich in Alberta, and also during the Merv Bodnarchuk era in BC. Ed's efforts hatched a professional curling league which eventually became the World Curling Tour and he later became one of the early Canadians to assist a foreign nation in curling, becoming an advisor to USA during the early part of the new century. In its day, Ed's book "The Curling Book" started many youngsters on the path to the roaring game. He now writes Science Fiction and you can find out more at http://www.trillionist.com/. Ed's Curling Tips Video bring you back the 1980s and for a read on Merv Bodnarchuk, check out "Merv Curls Lead". You can also watch Eddy in the 2016 Canadian Masters final. No surprise, "The Brier" by Bob Weeks and Jean Sonmor's "Burned by the Rock" are essential reading for more on "Fast" Eddy Lukowich. Next Episode: Mike Riley
Fast Eddy and Syr Keebler provide the midseason intro/retro/what-ever-other-spective you can think of on On Topic*. The guys also touch on Keebler's OkCupid account and talking politics in entertainment.
Neil Houston is now an Event Manager for Curling Canada. He has been instrumental in bringing the Brier to large NHL arenas and showcasing curling at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Over forty years ago, he teamed with second Glen Jackson, lead Kelly Stearne and skip Paul Gowsell to form perhaps the greatest junior team in history. The Gowsell squad stormed through the Canadian and World Juniors, while combating mens teams on the cashpiel circuit...and winning. To the older crew cut players of that era, the strange pants, long hair and beards were a small annoyance compared to their use of push brooms rather than corn. Neil shares stories of the Gowsell rink and helps separate legend from fact. He also talks about his time on the Lukowich rink and how "Fast" Eddy went from playing second to skipping them to a Brier, Worlds and Olympic medal. We'll hear about 1997 when the CCA gambled by putting a Brier in the Calgary Saddledome, and contemplate the death of the hair broom in competitive curling. Video from the 1976 World Junior Championships can be found at The Curling History Blog. You can read about the Gowsell and Lukowich rinks in Jean Sonmor's "Burned by the Rock" and "The Brier" by Bob Weeks. Next Week: Errol "Colonel" Klinck
Dun-Dun Dada Dun-Dun Dada Dun-Dun... Join Syr Keebler and Fast Eddy as they journey through the top 30 villains in Game Of Thrones (Per Rolling Stone Magazine). The guys try GoT themed beers, talk sexism in Westeros, and try to figure out if GoT made them bad people, or simple revealed that they were always bad people.
