President Joe Biden has officially signed a marijuana research bill into law, making history by enacting the first piece of standalone federal cannabis reform legislation in U.S. history. The law gives the U.S. attorney general 60 days to either approve a given application or request supplemental information from the marijuana research applicant. It also creates a more efficient pathway for researchers who request larger quantities of cannabis. We look at the institutes of higher learning forwarding the need for undisputable research, and how two of the largest polling companies in the nation continue to survey and keep learning how the public continues to broadly favor legalization of the drug for medical and recreational purposes.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

We've seen some big #federal #Cannabis #news in the headlines this week when President Biden signed a historic bill approving cannabis research. A national banking association has made demands urging the Senate to take action on the SAFE Banking Act. President Joe Biden today signed into law a bill that streamlines access to marijuana for medical research. The new law is expected to speed the issuance of government permits to scientists who want to study cannabis, whose medicinal promise has been widely touted but remains, with a few exceptions, unproven. It will also expedite applications from producers—including universities—that want to grow and distribute the drug for research. It also obliges the federal government to make sure an adequate, uninterrupted supply of marijuana is available to scientists. “We will now be able to treat marijuana like we treat any other substance or pharmaceutical for which we hope there is potential benefit. We will be able to subject it to rigorous scientific trial,” says Representative Andy Harris (R–MD), a physician and former National Institutes of Health (NIH)–funded researcher who helped usher the bipartisan legislation through Congress. https://www.science.org/content/article/new-u-s-law-promises-light-marijuana-research The four co-chairs of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus—Blumenauer and Reps. Barbara Lee (D-CA), Dave Joyce (R-OH) and Brian Mast (R-FL)—released a joint statement following the president's signing. “For decades, the federal government has stood in the way of science and progress—peddling a misguided and discriminatory approach to cannabis. Today marks a monumental step in remedying our federal cannabis laws,” they said. “The Medical Marijuana and Cannabidiol Research Expansion Act will make it easier to study the impacts and potential of cannabis.” “Research is foundational for the path forward on cannabis policy. Research is essential to better understand the therapeutic benefits of cannabis that have the potential to help millions of Americans struggling with chronic pain, PTSD, multiple sclerosis, anxiety disorders and more. We celebrate the enactment of this critical and long-overdue legislation, and we know there is much more to do to remedy the ongoing harms of the failed war on drugs. Our caucus will continue working to reimagine the federal government's approach to cannabis and enact further reforms. In the coming weeks, we are committed to passing subsequent bipartisan, common-sense proposals like the SAFE Banking package, the Veterans Equal Access Act, the PREPARE Act, and the Veterans Medical Marijuana Safe Harbor Act.” https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/legislation/2022/12/02/bills-signed-h-j-res-100-h-r-8454-s-3826-and-s-3884/ H.R. 8454, the “Medical Marijuana and Cannabidiol Research Expansion Act,” which establishes a new registration process for conducting research on marijuana and for manufacturing marijuana products for research purposes and drug development; Thank you to Representatives Blumenauer, Harris, Griffith, Joyce, Mace, and Perlmutter, Delegate Norton, and Senators Feinstein, Grassley, Schatz, Durbin, Klobuchar, Tillis, Kaine, Ernst, Tester, and Murkowski for their leadership. If you've been following the podcast for a while, you've undoubtedly heard us ask our guests: “When do you think we'll see full federal legalization?” We've gotten all kinds of answers, but most of us are making educated guesses at best. To get more of an insider's perspective, we're thrilled to be talking to Jarrod Loadholt. He's a partner at Ice Miller LLP's cannabis group, where he specializes in cannabis law. Previously, he was the head of Credit Karma's Washington D.C. office, and before that, he co-founded a full-service public affairs firm with a focus on government relations, public affairs, strategic communications, and electoral campaigns. This makes him more than qualified to discuss this episode's topic: federal cannabis legalization in the United States. In our conversation, we dig into why cannabis isn't a huge legislative priority at the federal level right now despite massive support, the incremental changes that could help the industry right now, and what the SAFE Act is–and how you can help get it passed. KEY TAKEAWAYS Why the coming midterms will give us a much clearer picture of what's to come for cannabis. What makes the cannabis industry so bad at advocating for itself in Washington. Why the SAFE Act has taken way too long to pass–and why the Cannabis Administration Opportunity Act (CAOA) is not happening. Why the Biden administration has yet to embrace mass clemency. How crypto can play a role in cannabis banking despite being a highly speculative, high-risk field. This is your host Elliot lane. As always. We got our producer, Aaron Thomas powering this thing to success and Benzinga thank you for the platform. Welcome to product launch Thursday. I think every company in the industry launched a product this morning. We'll cover some of those, but we do have some big news to dive into first.Mississippi is on the board you off. I had an air horn. I blow it. If I had a drum roll, I would've played it before. But Mississippi governor has signed in to law, the medical cannabis bill for certain medical conditions Al it's. If I'm looking as an investor at this market, I get excited about companies that have dominated in other medical states, such as for.Hint, hint, maybe some truly TC in NF dives into this market. Maybe perhaps one of the smaller competitors like C N T M F both on the OTC, jumping into this market. There's several that you can look at. I would be surprised if a big MSO, like truly. Or cure leaf. Wasn't one of the first to jump in though. So congrats to Mississippi. Welcome to the party. Y'all I'm super glad to have ya. But yeah, it's good news. It's great news for the industry, especially when a Southern state like Mississippi, whom I would think would be one of the first to say that. Says, yes. All right, job. Moving on next leaf solutions.Let's give a round of applause to Paul Peterson and team over there. Oil F or O I L F on the OTC enters Ontario. They have made massive waves with their brand glacial gold. This has been hugely successful for them and they are pushing it to the Bram here. They are very Gung-ho and heads down on intellectual property. They have tons of patents internationally, I think 90 plus if I'm not mistaken. So obviously this is a company that's planning for the longterm. So keep an eye on O I L F I it's always been a watchlist. I think they are an up and comer and end of last year, they were one of the more successful licensed producers in Canada in terms of growth to their stock price. So do keep an eye on them. ACB Aurora cannabis obviously one of the most well-known names in the cannabis space launches a new CBD product. Here we are. We're into the product launches. Y'all this is through their subsidiary release. Or Arielle IVA kg seven hemp-based products. It looks like they have a CBD speed stick plus other things. So ACB continued to expand their product line as always another dominant player in the medical market, but not one that will inter Mississippi, anytime soon, obviously acreage holdings, AC R H F launches, a craft brand Superfly. Successfully in Illinois, Ohio and Massachusetts per their press release this morning. And the first three months of the brand launch, they reached circa 100 retailers.
