The pain of child abuse follows its victims to adulthood. Many seek therapy, but some internalize the pain and then inflict it upon others, continuing the cycle of abuse. Jason Vukovich chose a different path to exorcise the demons inflicted upon him by his adopted father. Jason consulted the sex offender registry of Alaska and physically assaulted known pedophiles in Anchorage. Jason's story is not a murder nor a mystery, but it is a true tale about a crime that is far too common and a victim who took the law into his own hands. In this episode, I sit down with Tom from the Kids Can Fish Foundation to recap one of the biggest years they've ever had — including the 2025 Running of the Bulls Charity Redfish Tournament. We talk about what made this year different, how the tournament sold out early, how the prize purse reached $10,000, and why this event has become one of the most meaningful surf fishing tournaments in the Southeast. Tom shares behind-the-scenes insight into what it takes to run a tournament of this size, how sponsorships and volunteers make it possible, and how every dollar raised helps fund free fishing camps for kids all year long We also get into some powerful moments from the beach — including kids catching their first redfish, young anglers growing into confident fishermen, and families coming together through fishing. Tom explains why accessibility, patience, and creating a positive fishing experience for kids is at the heart of everything Kids Can Fish does Kids Can Fish 2025.If you care about surf fishing, youth fishing, community, or seeing the next generation get hooked on the outdoors, this episode shows exactly why Kids Can Fish exists and why this tournament continues to grow year after year.Learn more or get involved at kidscanfish.netAudio: https://share.transistor.fm/s/6ad9d5ff Video: https://youtu.be/1YTNQVOV39I To follow:Website: https://www.kidscanfish.net/FB: https://www.facebook.com/KidsCanFishIG: https://www.instagram.com/kidscanfish/YT: https://www.youtube.com/@kidscanfish4890TT: https://www.tiktok.com/@kids_can_fish_foundationThis Episode Is Sponsored By: Kids Can Fish Foundation: Kids Can Fish is a state and federally-recognized 501(c)(3) charitable foundation. The endless supply of larger-than-life characters in Alaska makes the state fertile ground for reality television shows and movies based on true stories. If you made a list of the strong, fascinating individuals in the history of this vast state, though, Joe Vogler would rank near the top. Picture a sharply dressed man, wearing a fedora, a bolo tie, and a plaid flannel shirt while he stands in front of a group of rowdy people and proclaims his controversial opinions in a booming voice. Joe Vogler developed a large following of folks who agreed with his politics, but he also made many enemies. When he disappeared from his remote home, people wondered if an enemy had killed him, or if the murderer was someone who claimed to be his friend and colleague? Sources Brenan, Tom. Cold Crime. 2005. If you head out on a Ferry from Oakland's Jack London Square over the Bay, to San Francisco… there's another special place where you can get fresh food: Fisherman's Wharf. Here, boats dock early in the morning with salmon and halibut, mackerel.. and now it's Dungeness crab season! The catch then goes into refrigerated trucks, to eventually end up across the country or around the world. But for one Fisherman, catching and enjoying this bounty is best served… right here at home. Kirk Lombard is a sea forager. And he shows people why and how we should catch seafood ourselves, on the docks and mudflats around the Bay. In 2014 KALW's Angela Johnston went down to the wharf, to learn more.

Is it 1985 or 2026? Because the air in Chicago hasn't felt this electric since Coach Mike Ditka was roaming the sidelines in his famous sweater vest. Did you see Walter Payton :) I did in all those players. The smiles gave it away. In this episode, I am breaking down the legendary Bears vs. Packers rivalry and how the city of Chicago has finally found its soul again. For years, critics looked down on Caleb Williams questioning their style, his swagger and attitude, and whether he had the right "mojo" to lead any NFL team. Caleb Williams was treated like an fishing expensive lure that looks good on the shelf but can't catch a thing in rough water. But look at him now. We're diving into how the right mentorship has unlocked his potential. It's a reminder that in football—and in fishing—you don't have to change your nature to succeed; you just need the right environment and a good mentor that understands you. When the city gets behind you and the right coaches believe in you, you stop playing "safe" and start playing like a legend. Same holds true in fishing. We also explore why this rivalry brings out the absolute best in sports. While Chicago brings the urban grit, the Packers draw from the collective energy of the entire state of Wisconsin—a "small-town" force that fuels a global powerhouse. It's a clash of cultures and you gotta love that! In this episode: The Culture Shift: Why Chicago finally feels like a "Ditka-era" football town again. Silencing the Doubters: How Caleb proved that with the right mentorship, you can be exactly who you are. State vs. City: How the Packers' statewide energy forces the Bears to elevate their game. The Fisherman's Perspective: Why the best Bears seasons—much like the best fishing trips—require patience, the right "fishing spot," and a whole lot of heart. Share a commentThe air smells like smoke and rumor, and the faithful are bracing for a storm. Against that backdrop, we follow Peter's unvarnished journey—sharp insight, spectacular missteps, a rooster's indictment, an empty tomb's quiet proof, and a bold voice that helped launch the church. This is not a highlight reel; it's a field guide for people who have promised too much, failed too fast, and still ache to be useful. We start with Peter's confession—“You are the Christ”—and the whiplash turn to presumption as he tries to correct Jesus. Then we sit with the ache of his denials and the shock of the resurrection details John preserves: linen left in its form, a face cloth folded as a royal signal of return. The angel's words land like grace with a name tag: “Tell the disciples and Peter.” From there, Pentecost breaks open. Peter's courage replaces bluster, his message names Jesus as both Lord and Christ, and thousands respond. The journey arcs forward to an older Peter who writes about prayer that doesn't always prevent failure, humility that replaces swagger, and sober-minded calm that steadies a panicked church. We connect Peter's lessons to our moment: how to hold mission when culture feels hostile, why the church does not need applause or power to be fruitful, and how to exercise rights without making them our refuge. We talk about leaders better than a nation deserves, worse than it merits, and exactly what it has become—and why none of that cancels the call to plant seeds of the gospel. Through it all, one theme threads every scene: entrust your life to a faithful Creator who always does what is right. As the city smoldered, Nero's propaganda machine named Christians as arsonists, and what had been scattered suspicion hardened into open hostility. Into that pressure cooker, Peter writes like a seasoned shepherd, urging believers to hold their confession without panic and to choose a defiant, settled joy that makes the world curious. We walk through why the shortest creed, “Jesus Christ,” is both the church's anchor and culture's stumbling block. Peter stakes the claim that Jesus is the anointed Messiah and God the Son, echoing Acts 4:12 and the earliest preaching of the apostles. We contrast the apostles' experience with Paul's sudden encounter on the Damascus Road, unpacking why he often says “Christ Jesus” and how that reinforces the same confession from a different angle. The thread running through it all is grace: not a cushion for comfort but solid ground that cannot be shaken by mockery, loss, or marginalization. To bring the theology to life, we zoom in on Peter himself. He's brave, impulsive, corrected often, and yet restored—exactly the kind of flawed follower grace can turn into a pillar. From the Mount of Transfiguration, where his words drift into nonsense, to Caesarea Philippi, where his insight nails the truth, we see how God shaped him to sign his letter, “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,” with a steady hand. Along the way we get practical: why the end of casual Christianity can be good news, how joy functions as evangelism, and why a rooted local church is a lifeline for worship, teaching, prayer, and mission when the cost of faith rises. If you're sensing that cultural comfort and Christian conviction no longer fit together, you're not alone—and you're not without a map. AND FINALLYHollywood's Biggest Faceplants: The 10 Most Disappointing Flops of 20252025 had its hits, but let's be honest—it was also a year where some massive blockbusters crashed and burned. From superhero fatigue to Oscar-bait that nobody bit on, here's a look at the ten movies that just couldn't get audiences into seats this year. 1. Thunderboltsa. Marvel is definitely feeling the pain. While this movie made nearly $400 million, that's peanuts compared to the glory days of Avengers: Endgame. It suffered from the same problem as Captain America: Brave New World: it just felt like reheated leftovers from a saga that ended years ago. Aside from Superman, it looks like superhero fatigue has officially set in. 1. Snow Whitea. This was the exception to the rule that Disney remakes print money. It didn't even make back its budget. The movie had an identity crisis—trying to be both a classic recreation and a subversive twist—but the real killer was the PR nightmare. Between the casting controversies and political debates, the movie was "covered in mud" before it even hit theaters. 1. Mickey 17a. Everyone was dying to see what director Bong Joon Ho would do after Parasite. The problem? We waited too long. After endless delays, the hype died. When it finally dropped in February, reviews called it "toothless" and confused. Even Robert Pattinson couldn't save this sci-fi epic from being a disappointment. 1. After the Hunta. You'd think Julia Roberts and the director of Call Me by Your Name would be a slam dunk. Nope. It made less than $10 million globally (which is like, half of Roberts' salary). The movie was too long, too rambling, and felt more like a streaming series than a cinema event. 1. Christya. Sydney Sweeney is everywhere, but apparently, that doesn't guarantee box office sales. Her boxing biopic had one of the worst opening weekends ever for a wide release. It seems social media fame doesn't always translate to ticket sales. Sweeney defended it, saying she made it for "impact," not numbers, which is good, because the numbers were bad. 1. I Know What You Did Last Summera. Studios thought they could pull a Scream with this 90s revival. The issue? People actually love Scream. Nobody really cares about "The Fisherman" or the original 1997 film enough to show up for a legacy sequel. 1. Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowherea. Jeremy Allen White played The Boss, but audiences didn't show up. Why? Because the movie focused on a depressing, quiet period of Bruce Springsteen's life where he moped around a bedroom recording acoustic tracks. People wanted the stadium anthems and energy, not the gloom. 1. Elio a. Pixar had a huge win with Inside Out 2, but Elio brought them back down to earth. The original director left mid-production, and the final product felt like a movie with no reason to exist. It was hard to explain the plot, and audiences just didn't connect with the aliens. 1. M3GAN 2.0a. The first M3GAN was a viral hit because it was campy, slasher fun. The sequel failed because it tried to pivot into a sprawling, geopolitical action thriller. The producers admitted they overthought it—they should have just given the people more of the killer doll they loved. 1. The Smashing Machinea. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson really wants an Oscar. He teamed up with Emily Blunt and an indie director for this gritty MMA drama. But here's the thing: nobody goes to a Rock movie to be depressed. It was a bleak story about addiction, and audiences preferred to stay home. This is an AI generated summary that was TOO GOOD not to share...Check it out and if you want to join our next FREE (LIVE) workshop go to:http://1DealAWeek.comThis presentation introduces Lead Deck, an AI-powered real estate software designed to help agents close one deal weekly by adopting a "fisherman" strategy. The system moves away from traditional marketing like social media content or heavy advertising, focusing instead on a three-step process of identifying distressed or off-market properties to use as "bait" for active buyers. The tool streamlines business by providing automated lead targeting, skip-traced contact information, and a mobile interface that allows for instant outreach via text or call.By utilizing predictive analytics and filter stacking, the platform identifies motivated sellers and cash investors in any market across the country. The source emphasizes that success is guaranteed through disciplined execution and the elimination of technical friction in the prospecting process. Attendees are offered a Platinum bundle that includes the software, weekly mastermind coaching, and personalized onboarding to help them transition from passive "farmers" to proactive deal-makers. Ultimately, the program aims to end the commission rollercoaster by providing agents with a reliable, repeatable system for filling their pipelines on demand.

College football is officially unhinged — and we're here for it. Why do we romanticize historical outlaws and con artists? It is difficult to write about Wild West outlaws because the myths surrounding them bear little resemblance to the truth. Jefferson Randolph “Soapy” Smith was one of those characters. Smith often donated money to good causes, but he earned that money by cheating and robbing people. When he relocated his criminal enterprise to Skagway, Alaska, during the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897, the citizens soon grew weary of his cons and threats. The animosity led to a confrontation and a shootout, and soon, Jefferson Smith's life ended, and the legend of Soapy Smith began. Sources Charles River Editors. Grant Broggi, Jeff Buege, and Tres Gottlich break down three things every man is thinking about right now:• How to build a real home gym without wasting money• Why college football fans are emotionally exhausted (Texas A&M included)• And the unbelievable true story of the sprinter van that wasn't supposed to be opened… but was.Grant lays out the bare-bones home gym setup that actually gets you strong — no fluff, no gimmicks, no influencer nonsense. If you've ever thought about building a garage gym, this is the exact blueprint. The crew also reacts to the College Football Playoff chaos, SEC heartbreak, and the reality of what an “11-win season” really means in modern college football. And somewhere in between… a completely innocent church van becomes the scene of a full-scale accidental raid.Podcast Hosts:Grant Broggi: Marine Veteran, Owner of The Strength Co. and Starting Strength Coach.Jeff Buege: Marine Veteran, Outdoorsman, Football Fan and LifterTres Gottlich: Marine Veteran, Texan, Fisherman, Crazy College Football Fan and LifterJoin the Slack and Use code OKAY:https://buy.stripe.com/dR6dT4aDcfuBdyw5ksCheck out BW Tax: https://www.bwtaxllc.comBUY A FOOTBALL HELMET: https://www.greengridiron.com/?ref=thestrengthcoTimestamps: 00:00 - Intro 11:21 - Staff Brief23:07 - Outlying Stations28:28 - Turkey Pull Winners30:13 - Insane Van Story39:52 - iPhone Update Issues43:28 - Bare Bones Home Gym Essentials57:21 - College Football Madness01:11:44 - Tres' Picks Of The Week01:33:23 - Dan vs Daniel01:39:20 - Saved Rounds

First named in 1972, the Alaska Triangle stretches from Anchorage in southcentral Alaska to Juneau in the southeast panhandle to Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow) on Alaska’s northern coast. Since 1988, more than 16,000 people have vanished from this area, and every year, approximately four people go missing per every 1000 Alaska residents. This rate is twice the national average. I was surprised when I first learned how many people disappear in Alaska, but I don’t need an underground pyramid or mysterious magnetic vortices to explain the statistics. I also don’t understand the need for a triangle since people disappear throughout the state, not just in the area outlined by a geometric figure’s hypothetical lines. However, I guess a triangle conjures up the aura of the Bermuda Triangle and suggests the possibility of mysterious forces at play. Many disappearances and other mysteries in Alaska have never been solved. Planes vanish, boats disappear, UFO sightings baffle military officers, and in one instance, the population of an entire village fled their homes to escape a giant, hairy, manlike creature. Here are a few of the stories. Sources: Conger, Cristen. Why has part of the Alaska wilderness been called the Bermuda Triangle? How Stuff Works. Gough, Cody. 2019. He has authored 17 fly-tying books, many of which have become staples for saltwater anglers and tiers seeking to improve their craft. He also collaborates with leading brands, guides, and conservation groups to support responsible fisheries and help anglers elevate their skills. When he's not writing or teaching, Drew can usually be found on the flats or in the backcountry around Southwest Florida—testing new materials, observing local fish, and refining the patterns that have made him one of the most recognizable names in modern fly tying.
