Let's face it, the fitness and wellness industry attracts all kinds of people and there are all kinds of ways to succeed in it. Nick Melnyk took a chance in college and attended his first cycling class at the school's rec center. Monica the instructor, and bikes that go nowhere awakened his love of movement and nothing was ever the same after that.He began teaching various fitness formats and during his last college year heard about a new boutique studio opening and he applied to be front desk and instructor. It just so happened to be the very first CycleBar. Nick immediately fell in love with the community and after graduating in 2015 he joined the original CycleBar Franchising corporate team, taking the brand from 3 locations to the international brand it is today.As a FitPro Nick made his mark in the Cincinnati fitness scene as what was known as a CycleStar in those days, at Shred415 and other local studios.His experience both as a FitPro and working in Operations as he helped others open studios across the country gave him unique insight into the do's and don'ts of studio ownership.He knew early on that being an instructor would never be enough and studio ownership was his destiny. From investors, to partnerships that dissolved, to the increasingly high costs of opening a studio Nick was derailed from his dream time and time again but he did not give up. In February of 2023 Nyxx Studio opened in the community that raised this resilient FitPro. They offer rhythm based cycling classes and strength classes coming Spring 2024. Christine Howe has dedicated her entire career to staffing and recruiting in the HALO (Health, Active Lifestyle, Outdoors) industry for over 12 years. She recently ventured out on her own and started Fit Pro Finders, a staffing service catering specifically to the HALO space. She and her team work with a wide range of companies, from small to mid-sized independents, to franchise-owned and corporate facilities, to help them find the right personnel to drive their businesses forward. Pete and Christine discuss the in's and out's of human capital and delve into the challenges of finding and retaining top talent, the importance of a holistic approach to staffing, and the need to shift the industry's perspective to a people-first mindset. They also touch on the significance of understanding a client's immediate needs and the lack of HR departments in some scenarios. Regarding hiring from outside the industry, Christine is a fan. She states, "I've been having a lot of conversations with hiring managers about hiring talent outside of the industry. Looking at organizations like Starbucks, Disney, other hospitality-people first driven organizations that have a phenomenal customer service onboarding system and pulling people that are generally passionate about serving people through this modality." I've literally been waiting for this episode since June when Christine Conti won the prestigious IDEA 2023 Fitness Instructor of the Year in Los Angeles, CA. Dr Michael Lange host of "ask the dr" today with Dr Susan Summerton. Dr Lange and Dr Summerton discuss exercise and cancer, eating more fruits and vegetables will decrease disease, foods for testosterone and foods never to eat with each other. They also discuss how important weight management is for overall health. Dr Lange and Dr Summerton discuss specific foods to never eat together. Dr Lange does a brief section on the powers of omega 3 and how the best form on omega 3 fish oil is TG form omega 3 or rTG form omega 3 made in Norway. He advises people to check their current omega 3 to see if it is an inferior cheaper form of omega 3 called ethyl ester (EE) by squeezing the contents into a Styrofoam cup and if the cup rots away in 10 minutes this means it has ethanol in the fish oil. Today's show discussed vegan vs whey protein in some detail and also goes over how to pick a good rTG omega 3 fish oil. They also chime in on the all new Fortifeye Fit Pro that is in final phases of development. Dr Michael Lange and Dr Richard Hall host "ask the dr" this am. The show starts off with Dr Lange discussing how to pick a good vegan protein and how to pick a good whey protein. He states whey proteins should be non-denatured, grass fed and from New Zealand, UK, America, Australia or France. Two weeks ago I shared 3 ways for personal training gyms to increase their revenue. Today, we are taking it a step further and discussing 3 steps (simple) for fit pros to get rich. You may not like the word rich. Different people have different hang ups around certain words. That's fine. You can call it wealth, abundance, or whatever you want. Here is a quick overview of the 3 primary steps for personal trainers (or anyone) to get rich. 1.
