(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Pakistani Supreme Court releases Muslim murderers of Christian couple The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the release of the final three men on death row in the 2014 murder case of a Christian couple, Shahzad Masih and his pregnant wife, Shama, reports International Christian Concern. With this decision, along with the dismissal of a state appeal against the acquittal of 102 other suspects, no one remains convicted or in prison for the attack.  Here's the back story.  On November 4, 2014, in a village in the Punjab Province, a violent mob attacked Shahzad and Shama after they were accused of desecrating pages of the Quran, Islam's misguided book. The mob severely beat the couple before throwing them into a hot brick kiln, where they both died.  While five men were sentenced to death and nine others received short prison sentences, they all were released back into society. Lord, “let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” Wildfires in France and Spain have displaced 250,000 people France sent a hulking military cargo plane to dump tons of flame retardants as it battled raging wildfires on Saturday and slashed the final stage of the bicycle race, Tour de France, to redeploy security personnel to the blazes that forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes, reports the Associated Press. The giant A400M transporter swooped in low, its long plume of ochre-colored retardant trailing over drought-hit woodlands on the ground that fought flames that authorities feared could spread toward the wine region city of Bordeaux in southwest France, 310 miles away from Paris. Wildfires in southern Europe last week have now displaced more than 250,000 people. Former Maine lawmaker replaces Graham Platner on Democratic ticket On Saturday, former state lawmaker and logger Troy Jackson secured the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Maine and will face longtime GOP Senator Susan Collins in November in a race that could decide which party controls the Senate, reports The Associated Press. Jackson replaces Graham Platner, who won the Democratic primary in June, but withdrew from the race earlier this month following an allegation of sexual assault that Platner has denied.  Maine Democrats met Saturday to choose a new Senate nominee to face Collins. Trump's CDC nominee commits to abortion data reporting Former Deputy Surgeon General Dr. Erica Schwartz, President Donald Trump's nominee to head the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, testified last week that it is “absolutely critical” for the CDC to gather reliable abortion data upon which policymakers and health analysts can make decisions, reports LifeSiteNews.com. Nominated in April, Schwartz is currently appearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee for her confirmation hearings. Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri raised the matter of abortion data collection and analysis which the CDC had paused in November without explanation. HAWLEY: “The CDC collects data on abortions that are committed in the United States of America through a system called the ‘Abortion Reporting System.' This system is voluntary, and so a number of states, not coincidentally large blue states, do not turn over any data so that it's difficult to get a picture of just how many abortions, and under what circumstances, are committed in this country. We do know the numbers are going up, way up. Since the Dobbs decision -- well over a million abortions last year.  “Would you commit to collect the data on the number and circumstances of abortions, as is provided for in this system, and to work with those states that are currently holding out and not giving it to actually get the data so that we can know we can get a picture of what really is going on here? Will you do that? SCHWARTZ: “Senator, you have my commitment. Abortion surveillance is absolutely a critical component of what the CDC is currently doing. I will look into that.” HAWLEY: “Thank you.” SCHWARTZ: “But I also want to make sure that certain states are not conflating emergency services and hiding abortions in that emergency services case definition. We need to make sure we're pulling out true abortions and making sure that we're really having clear case definitions regarding abortions, so the data is actually accurate.” HAWLEY: “Fantastic!” Christian WNBA star attacked for opposing men in women's sports Sophie Cunningham, an eight-season WNBA veteran, got re-baptized earlier this year to reaffirm her Christian faith as an adult, reports The Christian Post. Appearing on “The Travis Hearn” podcast, she was asked about her faith. HEARN: “What's it like being a believer in Jesus Christ, a follower of Jesus, a woman of God, in the WNBA?” CUNNINGHAM: “For me, to be a believer in the W[NBA] … I think there's a lot more believers than you would actually, because a lot of people don't speak out about it. I am loud, I am confident, and I think being actually a woman of God, it's allowed me to walk into rooms with my shoulders back. I have a different type of swag and confidence about me because I know God has me.” Cunningham made headlines in 2022 when she approvingly retweeted an X post by CBS host Josh Prate opposing trans-identified male swimmer Will Thomas, who pretends to be a woman named “Lia,” being allowed on the women's team. As a result, the Left spewed hateful remarks about her on social media.  Indeed, 2 Timothy 3:12 says, “All those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.” During an interview with ESPN last week, Cunningham asserted that she does not hate transgender-identifying people, but believes in standing up for young girls in their private spaces. CUNNINGHAM: “I think it's really important to protect children, and that's little girls who are also involved in that category. And so, I do have beliefs. I have morals, and I'll always stand on those and be true to who I am. And when it comes just to protecting young girls in sport and women in sport, I feel very strongly about that.” On July 23rd, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed the Trump administration's solidarity with Sophie Cunningham. LEAVITT: “This is something the President feels strongly about as well, and the American people do too. Men should not be playing in women's sports. It's completely ludicrous that anyone could support that.  “It's even more ludicrous that you do have Sophia Cunningham, a female athlete herself, very accomplished in her own right, coming forth and speaking that truth that men shouldn't play in women's sports. We want to protect women and girls. “The backlash she is receiving from Democrats is astonishing. They are clearly very out of touch with the American public on this issue, which is an 80/20 issue. It's common sense. It's rooted in basic biological fact that men should not be competing against women on playing fields across the country.” And ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith affirmed Cunningham's insistence that men, pretending to be women, should not compete against biological women. SMITH: “I can't applaud her enough. This notion that you're hating on the ‘trans community' because you are not a proponent of them participating in female sports is utterly ridiculous. Sophie Cunningham said every word right on the money. There's no hate involved. There's only love we're talking about.  “But what happened to loving girls who are born biologically as girls. What about their rights? What about fairness associated to them?  Smith cited the story of Will Thomas, the male swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania, who is now pretending to be female as a good case in point revealing how demonstrably unfair it was to let him compete against biological women like Riley Gaines. SMITH: “'Lia Thomas.' I'm gonna keep bringing that name up: 400+ in the world competing as a male, transitions to female and he was number one. If we're gonna act like transitioning from male to female doesn't involve an advantage for that trans athlete, I have nothing to say to you. You're not exercising common sense.” Pastor Robert Jeffress' ministry surpasses 1 million YouTube subscribers Pastor Robert Jeffress' Pathway to Victory YouTube channel has surpassed 1 million subscribers, reports the Christian Post. Jeffress, who leads the 16,000-strong congregation at First Baptist Dallas, said the YouTube channel's launch was "an amazing opportunity to share the Gospel through our Bible-teaching ministry. We're grateful for the response.”  Amazingly, the church only launched the channel in 2024. Pathway to Victory was launched in 1996 and serves as the broadcast ministry for First Baptist Dallas and airs on 900 radio stations across the United States. Pastor Jeffress said, "Our mission has always been to pierce the darkness with the light of God's Word, and this [1 million subscriber milestone] is a testament to the power of the Gospel to transform lives." (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson, Timothy Reed and Adam McManus Fulani Muslim militia most deadly force against Christians The Observatory for Religious Freedom in Africa has issued a study on terror-related violence on the Dark Continent. The group revealed that the Fulani Muslim militia is by far the most deadly force in the persecution of Christians worldwide. They kill Christians at a rate 4.4 times that of other Muslims. Thus far, they have killed 79,323 people in six years — amounting to 36 people a day. They kill at 3 times the rate of Boko Haram. That's twenty times the number of people that have been killed in the US-Iran war this year.  Senegal, Africa: Marriage is between one man and one woman The National Assembly of the West African country of Senegal has defined marriage as a union between one man and one woman. Homosexuality is still legal in 21 out of 54 African countries. So far, homosexual faux marriage has been incorporated in one nation -- South Africa. U.S.-Iran war is back on America's war with Iran is back on, and the Middle East is in flames.   The U.S. military bombed dozens of military targets yesterday. The Saudis also bombed the Yemen airport. The Houthi-controlled Yemeni government is an ally with Iran in the present war. The Center for Strategic and International Studies reports a depletion of one-third to one-half of American Patriot, Tomahawk, and Terminal High Altitude Areas Defense missiles. At current rates, the replenishment will take four years. This does not include the use of missiles during the period of May through July.  Trump Meme coin tanked; Bitcoin down by 50% The Trump Meme coin has tanked — costing investors $3.8 billion. The president received $636 million from the venture, according to a recent financial disclosure.  However, Bitcoin has also lost half its value since the Trump election in November 2024. Total losses are running about $2.2 trillion for investors. Gold capitalization has increased about 3% since November 2025. 122,000 American layoffs The website Layoffs.fyi records 122,000 layoffs this year. That's the highest rate in four years.  Amazon is leading the pack for corporate layoffs with a total of 30,000 layoffs over the last nine months. America produces more oil than Saudi Arabia and Russia America is now, by far, the largest oil producer in the world — now producing 42% more than Saudi Arabia, and 37% more than Russia. Back in 2008, the United States produced about half of what Saudi Arabia and Russia produced. That has changed dramatically in the last 17 years.  GOP Senator Mitch McConnell rejects rumors he's braindead Republican Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky broke the silence and intrigue surrounding his lengthy hospital stay. Rumors had swirled that the senator was braindead or under cardiac arrest after he was transferred to the hospital. The senator has clarified that he had suffered a fall, but he did not break bones or suffer a concussion. Senator Lindsey Graham met his maker Longtime Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina went to meet his Maker on Saturday night. According to the D.C. office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Graham died of a ruptured aorta brought on by chronic heart disease. Graham, age 71, was never married and never had children. SC Gov appointed Lindsey Graham's sister to serve remainder of term South Carolina Republican Governor Henry McMaster announced Monday that he has appointed the late Senator's sister, Darline Graham Nordone, to serve the remainder of his term. When Lindsey Graham was 20, his mother died of Hodgkin's lymphoma at age 50, and his father died 15 months later of a heart attack at age 68. Because his sister, then 13 years old, was left orphaned, the service allowed Graham to attend the University of South Carolina in Columbia so he could remain near home as his sister's legal guardian. Here's a portion of Governor McMaster's press conference. McMASTER: “Today, under the law, it's my duty and honor to name someone to serve in the place this extraordinary man for the remainder of his term. “Lindsey took care of his little sister in years long departed. It's my honor to ask his little sister, Darlene Graham, to finish his work for him now. “And by the way, Darlene, I don't know if I told you, but after we spoke on the phone in the wee hours of Sunday morning, and you agreed to serve, through tears. Earlier, I had wondered what you would say, and I was humbled by your quickness to see the duty that you had to serve. “I called the president afterwards, and he thought it was a great idea, and I'm sure that everyone here does as well.” Obamacare premiums going higher Obamacare premiums are jacking up another 14% for next year.   That follows a 20% increase last year. The Peterson-KFF organization notes that the program lost three million members so far this year — now at a total of 19.2 million enrollments.  The average family of four pays $24,000 into Obamacare for this year, and $27,000 next year.  That compares to Samaritan Ministries Christian medical sharing that runs about $8,000 per year.  Hospitals treated COVID-shot rejectors as “plagued rats” Psalm 146:3 instructs us: “to not put your trust in princes, nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.” Recent Centers for Disease Control numbers indicate that 80% of Americans got at least one COVID shot. U.S. death rates, based on 2019 numbers, rose 17% in 2020 during the COVID crisis. After the vaccine came out in early 2021, the death rate increased again by 23% over 2019 levels. Then, the death rate increased by 16% in 2022. Death rates did not reduce to 2019 levels until 2024. Last year's death rate actually registered 4% less than 2019. Former trauma surgeon Dr. James Miller told podcast host Alix Mayer that those who did not take the Covid shot, after its rollout, were treated differently in hospitals, and in an inhumane manner, like “plagued rats.” Listen. MILLER: “Absolutely, the vaccinated and unvaccinated were treated differently. They started just denying basic health services to unvaccinated people, which spurned not giving diabetes medicine [and] you can't go see your family doctor. "Now, you could still get emergency care in the ER, but 100% you were treated differently. You were treated as a dirty, plagued rat. And this was common in social media. But it was no different in the hospital. The medical community is no different.” Next, Dr. Miller spoke of The Overton Window referring to the moment when an argument becomes politically acceptable to the mainstream population. In this case, it is more acceptable now, in 2026, for Americans to express their distrust of the medical establishment about how it handled the COVID shot rollout and how it mistreated the unvaccinated 20% of the population. The term, The Overton Window, is named after the American policy analyst Joseph Overton. Listen. MILLER: “I think part of why this is such a good time to talk about this is I think The Overton Window has shifted on the discussion. I think all people have realized the medical care system did not meet their expectations during COVID. “I think most people thought, before COVID, when you go to the doctor, they're going to help you out a bit, and you're going to get better, and they're going to wish you well. I think most people thought when I'm really sick, I'm going to go to the hospital and they're gonna help me out a lot and do their best and get me well. “After COVID, most people realized their doctors were there for themselves. Their doctors were more than happy to give them a toxic substance that would hurt them, like the COVID injection. And I think most people came to see that the hospitals were really killing fields.” 28 Georgia inmates got baptized after Bible studies The Grady County, Georgia Sheriff's department issued an official announcement over the weekend: 28 inmates got baptized! They had been faithfully attending Bible studies throughout the week, and confessed their faith in Christ.   The announcement said, “Together, we gathered in prayer, lifted our voices in worship, and celebrated these life-changing decisions. Moments like these serve as a reminder that hope, grace, and redemption are possible for everyone.” Back in March, another 14 inmates were baptized at a Franklin County jailhouse in Florida, according to Channel 7 News. PASTOR: “I'm going to baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. And I'm baptizing you in the power of that cross I'm talking about today. All right, ready?” These inmates also attended Bible studies each week and heard sermons from local pastors. Inmate Ethan Vonier became a Christian behind bars. VONIER: “I found Christ in jail. I feel like the good Lord put me here. We're all doing better each day.” And inmate Robert Hill was grateful for a fresh start and a Biblical destiny. HILL: “It's a new beginning. Everybody in here probably wants a new beginning. You know, he gives it to you. You know what I mean? Gives you a fresh start.  Jeremiah 29:11 -- He has a plan for me. I know it. I want it. I'm going to get it.” Psalm 107:10-14 tells the story: “Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, bound in affliction and irons—because they rebelled against the words of God, and despised the counsel of the Most High. Therefore, He brought down their heart with labor. They fell down, and there was none to help. Then, they cried out to the Lord in their trouble and He saved them out of their distresses. "Sangue marcio" di Antonio Manzini “Sangue marcio” è il primo romanzo scritto da Antonio Manzini, diventato poi noto con la serie con protagonista Rocco Schiavone. “Sangue marcio” fu pubblicato per la prima volta nel 2005 da Fazi, era diventato introvabile e ora, a distanza di vent’anni, è stato ripubblicato da Piemme. L'esordio di Manzini, dunque, nato un po' per caso, con un manoscritto che viene fatto leggere all'amico scrittore Niccolò Ammaniti, che ne intuisce la qualità e lo consegna all'editor Martina Donati. Arriva la pubblicazione e il resto è storia nota. In questo primo romanzo c'è già la qualità narrativa che Antonio Manzini ha poi dimostrato successivamente, ma soprattutto c'è un nucleo tematico che poi caratterizzerà i suoi romanzi: c'è la manipolazione, c'è la violenza, c'è anche la disillusione. Per quanto riguarda strettamente la trama di “Sangue marcio”, ci sono due fratelli, Pietro e Massimo. Da piccoli assistono all'arresto del padre per un crimine orrendo che il lettore apprende lentamente nell'ambito del romanzo. Pietro, fra l'altro, assiste anche al suicidio della madre. È il 1976 e Pietro finisce in un istituto a Torino dove la violenza è la regola, mentre Massimo viene affidato a uno zio. Da adulti, siamo nel 2002, Pietro è diventato un cronista di nera e Massimo è un commissario di polizia. Da due punti diversi devono indagare su un serial killer che uccide giovani donne lasciando sui loro corpi sempre la stessa orribile firma.

(Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson and Adam McManus Syrian suicide bomber A suicide bomber entered an Orthodox Church in Damascus, Syria on Sunday killing 22 people and wounding at least 63 others, reports ABC News. The ISIS terrorist group has claimed responsibility. No increased nuclear radiation levels after U.S. bombing in Iran The International Atomic Energy Agency reports no increase in off-site radiation levels at the three Iranian sites bombed by the United States and Israel. The neighboring Kuwait government has also confirmed that “no abnormal radiation levels have been detected in any of the member states.” The whereabouts of 400 kilograms of highly enriched Uranium in Iran is still a mystery. Israel bombed Iran's Evin Prison Israel continues its bombardment on Iran, including a bombing of the notorious Evin prison, where a number of Christians are held, and have been tortured over the last several decades. Trump: Israel & Iran agreed to cease-fire to end “12-Day War” On Monday, President Donald Trump announced that Israel and Iran had agreed to a cease-fire, declaring an end to what he referred to as “The 12 Day War,” reports The Epoch Times. In a Truth Social Post, Trump wrote,  “It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE … for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered ENDED!” Both sides will wind down their final military operations within 12 hours, beginning what Trump expects to be “PEACEFUL and RESPECTFUL” on both sides. The conflict will be declared over within 24 hours. However, The New York Times indicated that there is no confirmation yet from Israel and Iran. Russia bombed Ukraine with 16 missiles and 352 drones The Russian army unleashed a heavy bombardment on Kiev, Ukraine yesterday involving 352 drones and 16 missiles, reports Reuters. At least 10 Ukrainians died in the attack. This follows another attack last week which killed 28 people.  Zelensky assassination plot foiled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was the target of an assassination plot to be carried out by a Polish elderly man who had first been recruited by the Soviet Union decades ago, reports Newsweek. The man was activated to take out Zelensky at Poland's Rzeszów–Jasionka Airport using either a first-person view drone or a sniper rifle. The would-be assassin was a firm believer in Soviet ideology. The assassination plot was foiled by a joint effort of Ukraine's SBU, the main internal security agency, and the Polish internal security service known as ABW. Americans less isolationist Americans are moving away from isolationism according to a recent survey by the Ronald Reagan Institute. In the last three years, Americans who believe the United States should be more engaged in international events has seen a 24% increase. Specifically, 69% of Republicans, 64% of Democrats, and 73% of MAGA/Trump Republicans want to see more engagement internationally. A supermajority of Americans – 84% -- state their support for preventing the Islamic Republic from gaining access to nuclear weapons. Only 57% of Americans would agree with the statement that “the United States is better served by withdrawing from international events and focusing on problems here at home.” The major shift in American opinions on this has occurred since the November election.  Russia economy expanded by 4.3% last year Despite international pressures, the Russian economy expanded by 4.3% last year. This compares to a 1.1% bump for the United Kingdom, and a 2.8% bump for the U.S. economy last year. Supreme Court temporarily allows deportations to third countries In a 6-3 decision on Monday, the Supreme Court temporarily lifted a lower court order blocking the Trump administration from deporting illegal immigrants to so-called third countries to which they have no connection, reports The Epoch Times. The unsigned order came in the case known as Department of Homeland Security v. D.V.D. Michigan church shooting prevented   A heavily-armed man attempted a massacre at the Wayne, Michigan Crosspointe Community Church, reports CBS News. Thankfully, he didn't make it into the building. A parishioner rammed him with his truck, and the security team engaged him in the parking lot.  The suspect was pronounced dead when police arrived on the scene. One security guard took a shot in the leg. Based on national news sources, there are 1-2 church shootings per year in this country. That's 1 out of 380,000 churches.  Psalm 27:1-2 is always the right mindset. It says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?  When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell.” Ohio pro-life legislators want to protect babies from conception Several Ohio legislators are floating a bill that outlaws the willful murder of a child from the point of conception. The "Ohio Prenatal Equal Protection Act,” introduced by state Representatives Levi Dean and Johnathan Newman, would overturn the 2023 referendum amendment that legalized abortion in Ohio.  In Psalm 22, the psalmist confesses, “You … took me out of the womb; You made me trust while on my mother's breasts. I was cast upon You from birth. from my mother's womb You have been my God.”  Older Americans more likely to have Biblical worldview George Barna's 2025 American Worldview Inventory report has been released and he concludes that only 1% of adults under 30 have a Biblical worldview. That compares with 5% for adults over 50, and 8% for adults over 65. Also, 69% of young Gen Z Americans believe abortion is morally acceptable. That's up from 60% for the Gen X and Boomer generations. Then, 73% of Gen Zers agree that sex outside of marriage is okay.  That's up from 59% with the Boomer Generation.  Fifth Circuit deems Louisiana Ten Commandments law unconstitutional The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Louisiana's law requiring the posting of The Ten Commandments in public schools, reports Courthouse News Service. The Louisiana law required schools which receive public funding to post a framed copy of The 10 Commandments in the classrooms. Observatory identified and photographed 10 million galaxies The Rubin Observatory, located in South America's Andes Mountain, has completed its first 10 hours of operation and identified 2,104 new asteroids never seen before, and photographed 10 million galaxies, reports the BBC. The observatory features a 28-foot telescope and an ultra-wide, ultra-high definition camera.  Sperm donor passed cancer gene to 67 children In other science news, a sperm donor in Europe has passed a cancer gene on to 67 children. Already, at least ten of the children have signs of cancer, all of them born between 2008 and 2015. The case was discussed at the annual conference of the European Society of Human Genetics. Dr. Edwige Kasper, a specialist in genetic predisposition to cancer at the Rouen University Hospital in Rouen, France, said, “The variant would have been practically undetectable in 2008 when the individual started to donate sperm.” U.S. housing prices spike Housing prices in the U.S. are still reaching record highs. L'omicidio è stato inscenato come un suicidio, ma le indagini hanno presto rivelato la verità: Manzini aveva colpito la moglie alla testa con un sasso e ne aveva occultato il corpo. Nonostante l'evidenza, il processo ha riservato delle sorprese, con l'assassino che ha cercato di dipingere Giulia come una donna infedele e provocatrice, tentando di giustificare così il suo gesto. La madre di Giulia, Giovanna Ferrari, ha da sempre combattuto per la verità e per la giustizia, denunciando le storture del processo e la tendenza a incolpare la vittima. Vive in simbiosi con i faldoni dell'archivio tanto che per lui quei faldoni "parlano". Carlo Cappai è un uomo ossessionato dai casi in cui l'imputato è stato "assolto per non aver commesso il fatto", ma per lui c'è il forte dubbio di una magistratura influenzata dal potere. Dall'altro lato, proprio come seconda narrazione alternata alla precedente, ci sono le vicende di un giornalista, Walter Andretti, alle prime armi con la cronaca nera (si era sempre occupato di sport) che deve scrivere di alcuni omicidi. In questa intervista Antonio Manzini ci parla del romanzo, ma anche del suo senso di giustizia e, inevitabilmente, di Rocco Schiavone. "Mi piacerebbe scrivere un romanzo con Schiavone in cui però non c'è il morto" - racconta Manzini che poi aggiunge: "Non so quanto andrò avanti con Rocco Schiavone".

Ma Coste è ora anche al centro del romanzo "Il pesatore di anime" (Rizzoli - traduz. Maurizio Ferrara). Coste ha lasciato Parigi da sei anni dopo un'indagine che l'aveva distrutto psicologicamente e si trova a Saint-Pierre, una piccola isola francese situata fra il Canada e l'Isola di Terranova. Qui gestisce una residenza protetta dove vengono inviate per brevi periodi le persone sottoposte al programma di protezione testimoni. Un giorno in questa residenza protetta arriva Anna, una ragazza che per dieci anni è stata tenuta segregata in una gabbia da un maniaco che nel frattempo aveva ucciso altre nove ragazze. Coste ha il compito di capire come Anna sia sopravvissuta, nel tentativo di ricavare indizi preziosi per la cattura del serial killer. Nella seconda parte parliamo di "La via delle sorelle" diGaia Manzini (Bompiani), un libro che parla di amicizia, in particolare di amicizia femminile. Amicizie dell'infanzia e quindi assolute, amicizie come innamoramento, amicizie invece nate in età adulta e dunque più legate a luoghi e circostanze. Gaia Manzini intreccia esperienze personali e amicizie famose, le storie intime si rispecchiano nei legami di grandi donne della letteratura, che diventano quindi spunto di riflessione sul proprio vissuto. Ci sono fra le altre Catherine Mansfield con Virginia Woolf, Sylvia Plath e il suo legame con Anne Sexton, Natalia Ginzburg con Angela Zucconi.

Un romanzo cupo in cui i personaggi sembrano quasi non avere possibilità di riscatto o salvezza. È "La mala erba" di Antonio Manzini (Sellerio), romanzo che non fa parte della serie con Rocco Schiavone. La storia si svolge in un piccolo paese di 300 anime, un luogo asfittico e claustrofobico. Tutto è in mano al ricco Cicci Bellè, proprietario sia di case che di attività economiche, un uomo becero, arrogante, un uomo di potere che è disposto a tutto pur di portare avanti i propri interessi. Gli abitanti sono dunque un po' ostaggi di Cicci Bellè. In questo contesto si muove una protagonista femminile, Samantha, 17 anni, che non vede l'ora di fuggire dal paese, ma che rimane incinta. Un romanzo pieno di personaggi disperati in cui alla fine le vittime, per salvarsi, sono costrette a diventare carnefici. Nella seconda parte parliamo di un romanzo che narra un fatto realmente accaduto durante la Prima Guerra Mondiale: la cosiddetta tregua di Natale del 1914. In quell'occasione in diversi punti del fronte i soldati di opposte fazioni abbassarono le armi e celebrarono il Natale insieme, condividento il cibo e organizzando partite di calcio. Questo avvenimento viene ripreso nel romanzo "Una piccola pace" di Mattia Signorini (Feltrinelli) in cui ci sono due piani temporali. Siamo nel 1933 quando un tedesco accompagna il figlio nelle Fiandre, nel luogo dove, a 19 anni, aveva combattuto contro gli inglesi. Qui racconta al figlio la storia del soldato inglese William Turner (personaggio realmente esistito) che è il protagonista della storia. Ed è qui che nasce il secondo piano temporale, quello ambientato nel 1914: Turner si arruola spinto dalla propaganda (la guerra viene presentata come un'avventura) e per mantenere una promessa fatta alla madre sul letto di morte. Arrivato al fronte, però si rende conto che la guerra è molto diversa da quella che si aspettava. Turner passerà alla storia come uno dei militari che diede il via alla Tregua di Natale.

Personaggio rude, solitario, ironico e sarcastico, ma anche malinconico e dolente. Questa volta Manzini decide di puntare l'attenzione sul caso di omicidio da risolvere, dando meno spazio alla cosiddetta trama orizzontale quindi al passato di Schiavo e e rinunciando a fare un focus specifico su uno degli uomini della squadra come capitato negli altri romanzi. Sembra che sia quasi una forma di rispetto nei confronti del caso che stavolta Schiavone fa fatica a definire "una rottura di coglioni del decimo livello". Questo perché stavolta la vittima è un bambino di dieci anni. Le sue ossa vengono trovate sepolte in un bosco: era scomparso qualche anno prima all'uscita di scuola a Ivrea. Nella seconda parte parliamo di "Le perfezioni" di Vincenzo Latronico (Bompiani). Anche in questo caso i protagonisti sono alle prese con un senso di impermanenza e inadeguatezza. Anna e Tom sono dei giovani creativi digitali, lavorano con il web e i social, hanno trasformato una passione in una professione. Hanno lasciato l'Italia e si sono trasferiti a Berlino dove, apparentemente, sono riusciti a realizzare il proprio sogno di libertà. Ma fin dall'inizio della narrazione si intuisce che dietro l'apparenza perfetta si nasconde qualcosa di stantio, una crepa destinata ad allargarsi sempre più.
