There was a time when Canadians didn't believe in Canadian music...unless someone else told us it was good first. To celebrate Canada Day, we're exploring how that mindset changed, and how Canada went from cultural insecurity to producing one of the most influential rock movements of the 1990s. From early radio bias and the “Guess Who?” prank, to CanCon rules, FACTOR funding, the rise of FM radio, and the national impact of MuchMusic, this is the long story of how a domestic music industry was built...piece by piece. We trace the conditions that led to the CanRock explosion of the '90s, spotlighting key artists and moments along the way: Rush, Martha and the Muffins, Blue Rodeo, The Tragically Hip, Sloan, Our Lady Peace, I Mother Earth, and many more. We also dig into the demographics, economics, and cultural shifts that turned Canadian bands into hometown heroes...and international stars. It took decades, smart policy, and a generation ready to embrace its own voice...but the payoff was enormous. This is the story of how Canadian rock found its confidence…and changed everything. Throughout the Gospels, some of Jesus' most powerful moments happened around a table. He taught truth, extended grace, confronted hypocrisy, built relationships, and revealed the heart of God while sharing meals with ordinary people. From dining with sinners to feeding thousands, every meal carried a message. This sermon series, “Guess Who's Coming To Dinner,” Pastor Brad leads us to explore the meals of Jesus and what they teach us about faith, fellowship, forgiveness, humility, and the Kingdom of God. Each week highlights a different scene where Jesus used food and fellowship to transform lives and point people toward salvation. As we gather around these tables, we discover that Jesus still invites people to come near, find grace, and experience true spiritual nourishment. Whether you feel far from God or close to Him, there is always a place at the table with Jesus.
Going back to the mid-'60s, who would have thought that Allen Park had a music scene that would flesh out one of the finest groups to hit the charts in the Michigan music scene? Rick Stevers is a founding member of the mighty Frijid Pink, who continues to tell the story from behind the drum kit. Stevers is also a member of the Michigan Rock Legends Hall of Fame and the Pink's cover of 'House Of The Rising Sun' continues to be a household staple. Here in part 2 of 2, from the pink bathrooms of the era, to the big stages playing with a 'who's who' of other '60s bands such as The Guess Who, studio time with Janis Joplin, and meeting the other 'House of The Rising Sun' band, Eric Burden & The Animals. Being ahead of the curve, Frijid Pink spent more time on the road than many of their contemporaries, which Rick says that did more harm than good when it came to the Michigan fan base. Partying with Sammy Davis Jr., working with Don Brewer, speaking with Gordon Lightfoot, and being a car worker at Chrysler for over 17 years. All the albums, lineup changes and lost power to his father, never stopped Stevers. You have to dig into this episode, NOW!

EPISODE 143 - “GUESS WHO'S NUMBER ONE?: STEVE & NAN RANK TRACY/HEPBURN FILMS” - 6/08/2026 One of the most dynamic duos in film history is undoubtedly the teaming of SPENCER TRACY and KATHARINE HEPBURN. It's a show that asks more questions than it answers. For starters, could Elis and John host Strictly? How are the boys related to classic board game Guess Who? And can you spell catastrophe without top rate cash? These amuse-bouches are followed up with meatier questions: why was John interviewed at a law firm? Why has Elis been under London's strongest thumbs? And why is Dave telling a man called Ed that he's ready to take his trousers off? Most of these are answered, plus find out what John had erroneously left unchopped for 15 years, and Elis takes us down a whole new route in the nation's favourite 60-second Welsh-based acquaintances game, The Cymru Connection. To save Producer Michael's job, send in some nice messages about his great production work to hello@elisandjohn.com.For lots of exclusive EJJR #content, join our Patreon at patreon.com/elisandjohn.For weekly visual highlights, head to youtube.com/@elisandjohn.For everything else, head to elisandjohn.com.The Elis James and John Robins Show is a Significant Production. Once again, I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time and got to experience the lift off of the first Canadian artist to hit #1 in the USA. Before they became world famous, they were another prairie band trying to get the bosses in Toronto to notice them. I was at CJME and CKCK in Regina, and over one early 60's summer, they spent the hot months playing at beach parties and small halls. One after the other. Then the hits started to roll, and I ended up going to London, UK, with them, to cover the story. Except the story was a bust. Poorly planned on the London end, they played a couple of tv shows and came home. Then came These Eyes, American Woman and fame. After the Guess Who split up, another set of musicians decided to take the name and run with it, for 13 years. Legalities carried on for many years, but eventually Randy and Burrton Cummings..the two original guys, got the name back and that's why the upcoming Guess Who Tour is called the " taking it back tour." Taking it back tour dates June 8 – Saddledome Calgary June 10 – Rogers Place, Edmonton Aug 23 PNE Freedom Mobile Arch August 25 Memorial Arena Victoria

Car guy Dave Piluski of RTM Engineering Consultants sits in for Jill this week. Tom opened the show by complaining about contemporary country music, especially someone named Luke Combs. This because Tom did not have time to Bluetooth connect with his new test car prior to recording. Dave and Tom discuss two major news items: Ford's constricted F-150 pickup supply, and Nissan's newly revealed turnaround plan. Because of the Iran Conflict, Ford is struggling to source aluminum for the F-150's body panels, and Nissan is working to rebuild sales in the U.S. and globally. Listen in for details. Tom also reviews the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid Calligraphy. Turns out there's little here not to like. In the second segment Dave and Tom are joined by friend of the show Robert Colangelo. Robert shared the details--some horrifying--of his recent Model Y voyage from Northwest Indiana to Canada to catch a Guess Who concert. You don't want to miss this. In the last segment Dave is subjected to Tom's "Which Came First: Eighties Edition: quiz. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Chris and the team are back after a week away - which means normal chaos has officially resumed… with a BANG!This week's show had everything from Chris braving a driverless car, Dom announcing that his favourite word is quench (even though we've literally never ever heard him say that until now), and Captain getting a haircut in a very unusual location… a bus! Plus, some Chris Moyles show classics: Reverse Words, Stupid Amnesty and a fresh batch of your brilliantly ridiculous WhatsApp Messages! Our first visit was Louis Theroux, making his Netflix debut with his brand new documentary! Inspired by what his teenage sons have been watching online, Louis dives into the mysterious and controversial world of the “manosphere”.We were also joined by Professor Brian Cox, who returned to chat about space, science, his role working with the United Nations, and his upcoming Emergence world tour. Plus he admits that he thinks knowing absolutely everything about the universe might actually ruin the fun.And it doesn't stop there, somehow amongst all that there's still more…One finger boom!Polly has a Guess Who!Aaron-Alan's car noisesP.S. We had a gap for guests on Wednesday's show, so Chris said “if you're famous and have something to plug”, then make yourself known! We had two excellent takers of said offer, and those who hate spoilers, don't read the next part…Surprise guest number one… was the legendary Barry Scott from the Cillit Bang commercials! You know, BANG! And the dirt is gone! And, surprise guest number two… Jamie Oliver popped in to surprise the team and even taught Chris and Dom a bit of Italian! Jamie's Italian 2.0 is now open around the corner from the studio, so naturally he popped in to tell us all about it – and left everyone extremely hungry!Enjoy! The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X!Weekdays 6:30am - 10am
