"We love the fact that there are players who are different races, different nationalities, different cultures, backgrounds, sexual orientation, and gender identities too. I identify as a gay male, but I'm much more than that. Being able to be myself and have some of that awareness because I know when I was in high school, I would have loved to see anybody, whether it's somebody running a tournament I was playing in or a PGA or LPGA Tour player, who is out, living their life and being who they truly are. My old friend Jon Jacques is a longtime high school golf coach in Maine. He shares some thoughts on what he's seen out of his players over the years, and what it takes to have some fun at the high school level in most areas of the country. The truth is that there is a ton of opportunity for young people to learn the game for free or cheap while they're young. Most programs are trying to get kids to come out for some free golf...and you don't have to be a superstar to crack most high school lineups either. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/golf-essentials/message

In this episode, Chris catches up with his good friend and first mentor in the golf world, Tom Isaak. Tom was Chris’ math teacher in high school and the two developed a golfing relationship early in Chris’ high school career. Throughout high school, Tom played an integral role in developing Chris’ game through course management. Tom is currently still teaching at Saint Augustine High School in San Diego where he is also the head golf coach. He coaches a team with over 30 young players trying to get better. The two discuss Toms start in golf, his professional career, and how to help young players enjoy the game. The conversation was fun and easy and I hope you enjoy listening. Cheers!
