If you're a regular listener then you most likely know who Melisse Brunet is. I had wonderful conversations with her in my August 15 and October 24 episodes. If you are not familiar, I suggest listening to these episodes because she is fantastic--a Paris-born native of France who became a U.S. citizen last winter, Melisse conducts the Northeastern Philharmonic as well as the Lexington, KY Philharmonic and guest lectures across the country at various colleges and universities. She was heavily featured in the documentary Maestra and is purely delightful, hopeful and inspirational. Well yesterday afternoon I attended the Philharmonic's Holiday Pops concert that included singers from Wilkes University, Marywood University and the Choral Society of NEPA as well as musicians from the Valenches Music Company and dancers from the Ballet Theatre of Scranton and it did not disappoint. The performances were as sparkling and magnificent as the suit that Melisse was wearing (visit my Instagram RealFunny_Wine_Girl_Jeannine to see). Melisse conducted with such a fun, playful and joyful style that I was smiling through the whole concert. She is absolute fun and pizazz. I wanted to share my thoughts so I recorded this Sunday evening after I left the concert. I hope you'll support local arts in NEPA or wherever you live because it really does fill our hearts and connect us in ways that are vital to our humanness---to show one another kindness, empathy and love!

The Annapolis Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its 63rd season. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. And our very own Maestro Jose-Luis Novo is celebrating an amazing 20 years with our symphony. So, it made sense to sit down and talk. How did he get here? It was a long time coming! What does he hope to leave behind if he were to leave? What is he most proud of? How did the ASO survive COVID? Who is the better violinist? We get into it all in this fun episode! We also talk about the impact the ASO has on the community. Sure they have the performances (first one starting next week), and they do a free Pops in the parks concert on Labor Day, but did you know they perform for senior living facilities? For hospice patients? For students? Did you know they has a Youth Symphony Orchestra and an Orion Orchestra? Or that their Concertmaster is also a commercial pilot? I bet you didmn't know that the ever-popular Holiday Pops is going on the road this year. We cover a lot of ground in a half-hour. Have a listen! Lesson learned--if you are looking to pin down a Maestro to talk holiday concerts--do it way in advance! But we succeeded and just under the wire! We sat down with Maestro Jose-Luis Novo of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra which will be hosting their annual Holiday Pops performance on Friday, December 17th at 8:00 pm at Maryland Hall. This year will see all of your favorites with a twist as the Canadian group Sultans of String will be joining the orchestra on stage at Maryland Hall for one, in-person, incredibly entertaining, family concert! We also talked about Symphony+, their streaming service that was borne of necessity from the pandemic, and also how well the Annapolis Symphony Academy is doing! Oh, and if you ever wondered what resides on a Maestro's playlist other than classical--we have that answer! Have a listen and then get your tickets to Holiday Pops--the last time I looked, quantities were dwindling! LINKS: Annapolis Symphony Orchestra Holiday Pops (Tickets)
