And it needs to happen fast. If you're an investor trying to align portfolios with climate pathways as well as capture all of the opportunities that are out there related to the energy transition - it's a lot to think about. In this edition of Fidelity Answers, Katie Constance, Head of Sustainability for European distribution, is joined by Gabriel Wilson-Otto, Head of Sustainable Investing Strategy, and Portfolio Managers Kris Atkinson and James Richards to discuss the practical steps investors can take, where the risks lie, and importantly where to look for those opportunities. Editor's note: Beacon was created in 1913 from Matteawan and Fishkill Landing. 150 Years Ago (January 1874) According to the Fishkill Standard, burglars attempted to break into the Coldwell & Tompkins hardware store opposite the Howland library in Matteawan by using an iron bar to jimmy the front door. A window in the door was broken and the knob inside had blood in it, but the rather ordinary lock held. A piece of muslin soaked in oil and resin was found on the stoop, suggesting the burglars intended to carry away what they could and burn the building down to cover up their crime. The Fishkill Landing Machine Works was building two engines for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Co. and a 700-horsepower engine for a Chicago elevator. At the same time, its owners reduced wages by 10 percent. Two men attempting to break into the Matteawan home of James Richards fled after a 15-year-old boy inside shot at them with a revolver. The Wappingers Falls Chronicle called for the towns of Poughkeepsie and Fishkill to be divided, and a new town created, noting that Poughkeepsie had 20,000 people and six delegates on the county board, while Fishkill had 12,000 and one. A musician who came to Fishkill Landing from New York City for a performance in Newburgh lost his bank book and $30 [about $800 today] on the train. On his return trip the next morning, when the conductor came around for tickets and was told of the loss, he produced the bank book and cash, which had been found by the brakeman while sweeping the car. 125 Years Ago (January 1899) Samuel Stebbins, of the W.A. Jones fire insurance agency of Fishkill Landing, was distributing 1899 calendars to his customers. The ferryboat to Newburgh was operating 5 to 10 minutes behind schedule because of ice in the river. Grocers in Newburgh, Fishkill and Matteawan were victims of a scam by a man who claimed to provide Royal Silver soap at a discount. The product, which turned out to be washing soda and grease, crumbled when exposed to air. The fake soap was delivered by local truckers accompanied by men who collected the cash. W.G. Gomersall, superintendent of the Sargent estate at Fishkill Landing, was elected secretary of the Dutchess County Horticultural Society. William Pollock, who started the first steam laundry in Cold Spring, went out of business after moving his plant to Fishkill Landing. David McLaughlin died at age 65. He was a tobacco and cigar manufacturer, as well as the Fishkill Landing postmaster for 16 years. The Lewis Tompkins Hose Co. reported that it had cost more than $400 [$15,000] to bring home the body of Sidney Scofield, who had been killed in Cuba while fighting in the Spanish-American War. The federal government offered to contribute $35 [$1,300], according to the Fishkill Herald. The Rev. Edward McGlynn (at right) delivered a lecture at the Presbyterian Church in Matteawan titled "The Destiny of the English-Speaking Race." He said: "The ends of the world are coming together; even Japan is thinking of adopting English as a domestic language. Ours is destined to be the language of the world. It has strength, elasticity, [and] is sweet, admirable." John Howard, a gunner aboard the Princeton, had just left for Manila when his estranged wife showed up unannounced at the Matteawan school to inquire about the whereabouts of their 6-year-old daughter, who was living with her aunt and uncle. The woman had come to New York from Cincinnati, having walked part of the way. Alarmed, the aunt hid the girl with a neighbor - taking her out the front door as the mother came in the back - and said a judge should decide. The mother said her husband had kidnapped their daughter and that if she wasn't give custody she would kill herself. Matthew Herbert, 50, who drove the grocery wagon for Benjamin Deyo, was found lying on Rector Street at 7 a.m. on a Wednesday after suffering a fatal heart attack. The Lady Washington Hose Co. from Poughkeepsie visited Matteawan to take on the D.C.W. in ...

In this episode, Catherine Yeung, Investment Director, and Marty Dropkin, Head of Equities, Asia Pacific, explore the critical role of transition materials — minerals and elements, such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel, that are essential to developing and deploying clean energy technologies. Demand for these materials around the world continues to grow so securing a reliable supply of them is a priority for countries trying to get to net zero. China has many of them in abundance and it dominates their production and processing, which in turn makes the country indispensable to a successful and sustainable transition. Catherine and Marty are joined by Analyst and Portfolio Manager, James Richards, from London and Shanghai-based Director of Research for Equities in China, Monica Li, to discuss what investors can do to share in this boom and prepare their portfolios for a greener future. My guest is Christina Végh, who since 2020 is the first woman director of Kunsthalle Bielefeld and before that was the first woman director of Kestner Gesellschaft, Hannover. Earlier on she headed the Bonner Kunstverein and worked as a curator at Kunsthalle Basel. Having been brought up in Switzerland in a cultured family, with relatives in Austria, Hungary, the former Czech Republic and the US, Christina learned early how to brigde differences and translate between languages, cultures and styles of communication. She tried herself in quite some fields, including goldsmithing, but in each of them ended up being fascinated by the historical aspects. Questioning how what happened before affects us know and shapes what is to come. She realized exhibitions with artists like Monica Bonvicini, Monika Baer, John Baldessari, Rita McBride, Haegue Yang, Charline von Heyl, Annette Kelm, James Richards, Franz Erhard Walther, Christopher Williams and Nicole Eisenman, to name but a few. She also was responsible for extensive group exhibitions, like „Where art can happen, the early years of Cal Arts“, co-curated by Philipp Kaiser – who was also a guest on this podcast - and „Made in Germany Drei“. Christina is also active on numerous committees and juries. In our conversation she talks about the different needs of a Museum vs. a Kunstverein and how art and exhibitions are related to specific places. One of her core interests, besides art and art history, was always architecture, which is the reason she felt drawn to the post at Kunsthalle Bielefeld, an architectural landmark by Philip Johnson. She reflects in depth on how she and her team will take on the task of renovating and extending the Museum in a meaningful and functional way. She speaks about the programming during the time the museum is under construction, in which there will be more projects in the city space, „meeting the city on new terms“ and including new types of audiences. She reflects on the deep need of humans to be connected with art and culture, especially in times of hardship. Christina Végh is mother of two children and lives with her family in Bielefeld, Germany. This Episode was recorded on 30 October, 2023 and published on 7 December 2023. 45 min, language english. 2021 was a big year for the global fight against climate change. China's president, Xi Jinping, again pledged that China would hit peak emissions by 2030 and be net zero by 2060. Then at COP26 in Glasgow, over 100 countries pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions and eliminate deforestation. But that appeared to come to a screeching halt when the world was hit by the triple blow of Omicron spreading globally, the war in Ukraine breaking out, and the Fed starting to hike interest rates. For some people, it looked like fighting climate change took a back seat as priorities shifted towards energy security and economic stability. Coming back to 2023: China is still the biggest greenhouse gas emitter. But has the country slipped on its path to decarbonisation? Or is progress indeed moving ahead? On his website, James Richard says - "I never saw myself as Monet in the studio. I wanted to be Anthony Bourdain with a sketchbook." What was the meaning of art in James' life? How far was Monet, and the world of fine art, from the world in which he grew up? What did it mean to be like Anthony Bourdain … but with a sketchbook? In many ways, this conversation is the long process of unpacking this beautiful quote. Storyteller, artist, architect, educator - Jim has worn many hats in an epic and fascinating life. He speaks about growing up in Louisiana, learning to draw from Mad Magazine, and his close association with the built environment. We learn what it means to create a life that reflects our values, and the places we can go when guided by interests and curiosities. Visit James Richards' website.

For our second episode of the season, we delve into the baffling, yet essential topic of finance. We wanted this episode to be as useful as possible for the industry, so we’ve reached out to gain practical, on-the-ground insight, and understand what fishermen can do to become financially secure and get businesses off the ground. With various grants being announced for the industry, such as the MMO’s new Fisheries and Seafood Scheme (FSS), what are these pots of money for, and how can fishermen begin applying? Rob Poole works for Fishing Animateur - a team funded by The Seafarers' Charity, dedicated to helping the industry develop projects to secure grants - and is no better placed to answer these questions. We chat to Rob about all things funding. Ever heard of credit unions? They’re different to high street banks in that they’re not-for-profit, and are member-owned and run, with no private shareholders. With this model, credit unions are able to develop and deliver the financial services that members really need. James Richards works for the Commsave credit union, who have been working closely with The Seafarers' Charity to develop services, especially for the fishing industry. Keen to find out more about how this inclusive, supportive cooperative can support your business? Tune in!Being financially savvy can unlock a number of opportunities for industry members, and these practical, easy-to-understand discussions are a great place to start! GuestsRob Poole, Fishing Animateur James Richards, CommsaveHost Paul Trebilcock Chris Ranford

Before we get into this strange tale together - Woody and Tyler go over what they thought about the Snyder Cut of the Justice League. Why does the Snyder Cut exist anyway? Is it worth sitting through 4 hours of the Synder cut? What does the existence of the Snyder cut mean for all of us comic fans? Get these questions answered and more on this week's episode! The Rising Generation Leadership Podcast | Conversations with Influential Christian Leaders

If you struggle with regular church as I do you are not alone. You may be what Dr Ellis calls an ‘unchurchable.'   The unchurchable want relation first, system second. Something that speaks to their person beyond an institution. Something easily missed if you're more interested in converts than people.   Sadly this is the case for many churches. In word you won't hear it but in practice it is all too common. There is no short cut. We have to get past the fear or red tape of the system and dare to do life and walk with people even if it highlights the cracks in the system.   Watching Dr Ellis video I quickly resonated with his comments about being an unchurchable person and realised I was firmly in that camp.   It appears that todays generation of young people are the most unchurchable yet. They desire an authenticity the church has been privileged not to require. But not anymore. The information age has changed the game. Life and what it consists of are up for grabs.   A changed life is the evidence people need. One they can follow and as the Scriptures and early Jews understood it this is doing life with people. It can't be done in a class and it does not start when people discover Jesus personally either.   It starts the minute an unbeliever meets the believer. Right there just as it was with Jesus. He did it when the men he met were yet to know him for who he really was. When they finally saw who he was guess what happened? They changed.   So to wrap this up I have created a space where unchurchables inquisitive of Jesus faith can explore what it is about and be coached into what life with Christ looks like.   The Way is not here to change you. It's here to undo the many misconceptions of faith so change can happen more easily. Ultimately Christ is the difference.   I have a particular passion for creativity and believe it is the common gift amongst all of us by virture of coming from a Creator. This is the vision and it excites me. See the video below for more and welcome to The Way.   If you have any questions I'm just a message away.

In this episode of The Expat Money Show, we do something a little different... I wanted to show how working together with a partner and being able to leverage each other's strengths can lead to success. We take a look at the creative side matched with the business side and how splitting roles allows you to focus on "That one thing" that really makes you shine.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3&v=C-b4vDUoQf0   We are joined by James Richards and Tim Smith. I first met James Richards through a mutual entrepreneurial friend, https://expatmoneyshow.com/michael-chiang (Michael Chiang) (From https://expatmoneyshow.com/michael-chiang (Episode #11) where he teaches us to create an app from scratch) James invited me for a private screening of Tim's work at his downtown penthouse apartment in Manhatten. I was struck how raw and uncensored the work was. Through many (often inebriated) discussions with James and others, I learned a lot about the underground art scene in New York and the entrepreneurial spirit that runs through it. This was a really interesting episode to create and I hope you get as much out of it as I did...   In this episode you are going to learn: From the business side: Tips for curating your own collection as an investment Learning from your mistakes Why having a personal network is so paramount   From the creative side: What's hot in the art scene today Even artists need mentors How to be honest with yourself Why you need to always look forward   Check out the guy's amazing work at: Tim Smiths work currently on display at Avra Art Gallery: https://avraart.com/ (https://avraart.com/) Website: https://www.theartworkoftimsmith.com/ (https://www.theartworkoftimsmith.com/) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/timsmithart/?hl=en (https://www.instagram.com/timsmithart/?hl=en) Their VR exhibition: https://www.eazel.net/ (https://www.eazel.net/)   Special shout out Tim's amazing art mentor, Mike Bell: Website: http://www.belldogstudio.com/ (http://www.belldogstudio.com/) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/mikebelldog/?hl=en (https://www.instagram.com/mikebelldog/?hl=en)   Books we discuss: http://amzn.to/2FlIA9Z (Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative) by Austin Kleon http://amzn.to/2Buzaa8 (The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles) by Steven Pressfield http://amzn.to/2Glgc9h (Do the Work: Overcome Resistance and Get Out of Your Own Way Paperback) by Steven Pressfield http://amzn.to/2DD3CRc (Turning Pro: Tap Your Inner Power and Create Your Life's Work) by Steven Pressfield http://amzn.to/2Fk9Ju6 (Principles: Life and Work Hardcover) by Ray Dalio http://amzn.to/2DNBdLt (Market Wizards, Updated: Interviews With Top Traders Paperback) by Jack D. Schwager http://amzn.to/2Eddd22 (Outliers: The Story of Success Paperback) by Malcolm Gladwell http://amzn.to/2Glidm4 (Startupland: How Three Guys Risked Everything to Turn an Idea into a Global Business) by Mikkel Svane and Carlye Adler   Final Thoughts I loved this episode because after listening you can see that an artist really is an entrepreneur. It doesn't matter if you are opening a restaurant and selling food or if you are putting oil on canvas, at the end of the day you are creating something, and really it's the mindset that sets you apart. Bienvenidos a Everyday Chimestry. Listado de canciones: 1.-‘Four Guys' 2.-‘Talking To Myself 3.-‘Anybody Else' 4.-‘Sick To Death' 5.-‘Jenn' 6.-‘I'm Just Sitting Here' 7.-‘Soldier Boy' 8.-‘Over The Ocean' 9.-‘Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft 10.-‘Saturday Night'
