Stop everything you are doing! Except for reading this, which you'll need to continue to do so that we can tell you about this INCREDIBLE PODCAST EPISODE! Or, if you've already stopped reading: just donloyd and listen along as we review three short films. You'll love the surprise! Up first! Y'all remember that popular singer Cher? Y'all remember Cher... and Other Fantasies from 1979? It's okay, nobody does or probably should. But there's some surprising reasons why we've picked it for the show, and we know that you, potentially-still-reading reader, love surprises.Next up! Rock out with your Busch out, as we jump the bownes of 1986's bitchin' Heavy Metal Parking Lot, a fly-on-the-pavement chronicling of a typical Saturday night in Maryland: complete with acid casualty teens, wasted youths, and non-consensual full-body air guitar. Come for the Zebraman, stay for the silent bearded thumbs-up fella. Finally! It's a third short film! With famous directors, famous drummers from Goldfinger, Seagram's wine coolers and porcelain deer! Of course, we're talking about the Matt & Trey classic Your Studio and You from 1995. It's that weird and wacky backlot thing they made for that corporate party none of us were invited to, and you'll love it as much (or as little) as we do!All this plus slippin' into shorts, things you can't do during Covid, Kevin Kuts Loose, two thirds of a Friday the 13th celebration, Kevin learns to love again, is Freddy canceled?, is Baby Yoda canceled?, is canceling canceled?, the murky flavours of the swamps of Dagobah, cult film politics, a gang of junkmailers, Hagar the Watchable?, a bevy of costume changes, injecting beef fat into Egg McMuffins, Sean's ultimate tourism betrayal of Parker Bowman revealed, Uber are the real monsters, how to get famous in the 60s and 70s, auditory illusions, it was a different time, our weekly news plus blu-ray picks and even more! What’s up y’all! So we’ve taken a moment to do some reflection on some things we’ve seen over the years, and one particular performance art experience stuck with us. We talk about the effects of that performance, and how it taught us some very harsh and grave truths about humanity. We dissect the meaning of the piece, and how it translates to our world today. What’s good, everyone!? Today’s episode is centered around Parenthood and Fatherhood. Yes, I let my daughter paint one of my fingernails, and to be honest, I’m proud of what she did! For those of us who are *active* fathers, often times we want to portray the pinnacle of manhood and masculinity—often failing to realize that our children ALSO require our vulnerability, love, and affection. If we are to bring about the changes so desperately needed in our community, we MUST be cognizant of the fact that it starts with US. With everything going downright batshit insane this year, we need Halloween now more than ever. Thankfully, we've all (mostly) survived long enough to enjoy at least one more round of dumb movies about Halloween parties, yeti wolfsmen, and pot-smoking goblins, and nothing is gonna stop us from doing just that. So, mash along with us and the monsters this week, if you please. It's the only podcast guaranteed to taste exactly like pumpkin pie, with half the calories! Up first! Y'all remember that Trick or Treats (1982) movie? No, not the one with that cute little burlap-sack-faced guy Sam. Not, not the one with that cute little burlap-sack-faced guy Ozzy. This is the one with that Rock and Roll Vampire in it! (no, not Ozzy). Anyhow, I guess you probably don't remember it. We didn't either. But it's got Peter Jason in drag doing battle with a proto-HomeAlone-style prankster child and his babysitter on Halloween night. And a bevy of character actors you'll love! So hear us chat about it. Next up! If you're an old, and you loved Halloween so much in 1985 that you tuned into ABC on November 1st hoping for the spookytime parties to continue, you must've been thrilled to see The Midnight Hour airing for your own, personal enjoyment. And if not, you'll love hearing us chat about this bizarre little movie (from Jack "Child's Play 3" Bender) in which all of the ghouls/goblins/yetismens of the afterlife invade the nowlife in a smalltown. With The Smiths on the soundtrack?!?!Finally! It's a third movie! With goblins, a weed wolf, and semi-famous partygoer cameos! Of course, we're talking about the Goblin-themed Full Moon Halloween classic Weedjies: Halloweed Night (2019). It's a movie where some goblins or something fuck up a party, with marijuana. Come for the dank-ass goblins, stick around for the part where Kevin Moss says "lit A.F." and "totes fun" in his review! All this plus Kevin's sinister cinema sins & drive-in insanities, a dissection of Joe Bob Brigg's natural cut-points, no fake bats, shillin' for Shudders, too many beds, what kinda Halloween donuts y'all eatin' in there?, Boratio Sanz, an exciting new breed of Goblins is discussed at length, Paul McCartney's extensive musical catalogue holdings, our weekly news plus blu-ray picks and even more! What’s good, y’all! Today we talk about Polyamorous relationships, and we do our best to break down what they are and what they aren’t, as well as looking at them from the lens of how we see traditional relationships. We break down the expectations and the requirements we’ve been able to decipher in these relationships, as well as understanding that, just like any other successful relationship, one must have confidence and mastery of themselves in order to make it work. Our goal is that this episode educates you, and provides you with something worth conversing over! How y’all doin’? Today we’re tackling the subject of “submission,” and what it means to “submit” to one another. Unfortunately there’s a lot of people out here, namely us guys, who believe that submission is automatically guaranteed in our relationships, yet fail to realize that submission isn’t a right, but a privilege and byproduct of good communication. Let’s break it down together. What’s good, y’all? Today’s episode is long overdue, but still relevant nonetheless! We’re talking about our experiences here in the US alongside the experiences of other White Americans, and how those experiences have shaped our trajectory in this country. We talk about how they have evolved into how we’re treated and viewed, as well as diving into the cellular level of what makes us who we are despite how we have been perceived. Ever feel like ya wanna escape the walking hellscape we currently inhabit in modern times in the western world, but it's still Schlocktober and ya gotta get Halloween-y? Good news, beleaguered Junk Food Junkies! You can take a trip with us to a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away: East Asia, circa 1980 through 2001! It's our SPOOKY ASIA theme show! First up, we follow up the fun we had way back when with Mr. Vampire (1985) by digging even deeper into the Chinese Hopping Vampire well by watching the trend-setting early Hong Kong horror/comedy, Encounters of the Spooky Kind (aka Spooky Encounters), from 1980! Everybody's favorite, fattest dragon, Sammo Hung wages war against hopping vampires and marital infidelities in this prototypical Jiangshi flick, but what's the the situation with the optically printed special effects? Are they plentiful?Next up! Y'all remember taking vacations, and what that was like? Well, hopefully none of your vacations involved getting on the bad side of an evil wizard from Thailand, or else your life might resemble the plot of The Eternal Evil of Asia, from 1995! Your first indication might be that your head has turned into a penis, as is common with these sort of enchantments. However, will ONE of your charming hosts decide this film is TOO PROBLEMATIC for 2020?! Maybe/sorta. It was a different time/continent.Finally! It's a third movie! But is it a half-Freado?! Just exactly how much spookiness and how much Asia is there to be seen in the well-regarded J-Horror flick from way back 'round the turn of the century, if most of it is just people talking about the internet or looking at muddy pixels? Will one of us call this movie 'Lynchian?' All these questions answered and more, this week only, in our exclusive and 100% free-to-donloyd review of Pulse (aka Kairo, from 2001)!All this plus suntory whiskey, the first cinematic universe in cinema history, is moleman a pejorative?, 遇见甲虫, the profundity of mashed potatoes, disneymongering, alien parties versus familytime, the last cinematic year in cinematic history?, topsy turvy top ten tabulation, wizard sleeves a-gogo, overlong international excursions into the general area of musicality, do they even shoot pictures anymore?, all of the promised Garfield/CAT-III jokes landed on the cutting room floor, safety tips from the scary police, 'wow', the time Sammo Hung fought David Arquette in Parker Bowman's living room in the future, some special Halloween sacks and scraps of cloth, our weekly news plus blu-ray picks and even more! What’s good, everyone! Today’s episode takes a look at what makes us move and navigate our world at the behest of the people out here who run the potential risk of doing the most damage to us. We talk about the way women are often times targeted for mistreatment and how what they wear “justifies” what attention they receive, as well as children, who rarely assign things to themselves as opposed to what WE assign to them. So many of us are teaching one another to live life according to the “evil” people in the world, that we give THEM more power than those that are “just.”As Tobe Nwigwe said “Try Jesus. Don’t try me.” We hope you like the episode!!******** Follow us on Social Media @CRTN_T! What’s good, y’all?? Today’s episode deals with the “Herd Mentality,” and how we, as a collective community, tend to move in such a way. When thinking about this, however, we find ourselves being pushed in so many directions by influences that have more pull than we do. What’s good, y’all? Today we talk about not only the impact of the phrase “Bros Before Hoes,” but also the impact that we have on our women by way of how the world SEES our women. Cardi B filed for divorce from Offset, but yet we STILL find a way to blame HER for it? The sheer number of us who reach to find any and all ways to STILL blame women for the outcome of ANY unsuccessful situation is mind-boggling. A lot of us don’t have our women’s back, and in turn, neither does the world. This one might offend some folks...and I’m okay with that. *shrugs* Enjoy the episode!******** Follow us on Social Media @CRTN_T! What's even spookier than your favorite podcast reviewing three Halloween-y short films to celebrate two months of Schlocktober? Well, what if we told you one of them might be a 'Freado Pick'?! The only way to be sure (and to be safe), is to #DonloydNow and listen in! First up, take a trip down memory lane, if you happen to be a Halloween-obsessed Canadian grampa, with 1978's Witch's Night Out. This bizarrely-animated holiday TV special concerns some trick or treaters from the Great White North with subpar costuming choices and a flair for monochrome biology. Starring the vocal talents of Gilda Radner and Catherine O'Hara! Watch the whole thing here, for free!Next up! Y'all got any psychobilly friends? They might've already hipped you to 2007's Cannibal Flesh Riot, a low-budget backyardish production from visual artist Gris Grimly in which he gets to pay loving homage to the classic cinematic achievements of the early Universal Horror pioneers, and also tentacle rape. Watch a short clip here, also for free! Finally! It's a third short, although it's one of those shorts that has inspired several multiple-hours-long thesis statement videos, deconstructing it frame by frame, as all good cinema is intended to be experienced. We're talking about, of course, This House Has People In It (2016), from the hot 'n spicy young director Alan Resnick. Watch all them people in that house right here, also for free! All this plus to live and die in california, do kids still hackey their sacks?, Kevin Moss is nothing if not a sucker for theming, Frankensteins at Lowe's, two million disc lovers can't be wrong, Parker's Perfect Postman, pose me up Scotty, Halloween safety bags, Tremors is hardly hard sci-fi, showtime faces, Slash Fact or Slash Fiction?, Kevin gets stuck in the floor, our weekly news plus blu-ray picks and even more! We’re back, y’all!! Thank you so much for rocking with us. Today’s episode tackles the subject of “cheating,” but what is “cheating,” really? We explore the levels that are typically explored in men and women, and also highlight the disparities in our thinking that classify actions as “cheating.” But is that the right word? Or does it go deeper? It’s all based on understanding of self and your partner, so this episode may not sit well with everyone, but we hope it inspires some conversation!******** Follow us on Social Media @CRTN_T! What can you integrate in 10 minutes to change your health and improve your immune system? Being mindful and present for 10 minutes a day can actualize all the things we want from exercise! Mindfulness is much more than sitting still. It’s a way to self lead and become your strongest self. While we can appreciate that science is catching up to the ancient wisdom of mindfulness, pop fitness culture tends to run away with these terms without taking a moment to study its origins nor proven integration techniques. We're talking Austin Stories and more with Dragon Boy Suede himself, and then we'll review a couple short films, too! First up, it's the aforementioned Austin Stories, from 1997! Three young comics (Howard Kremer, Chip Pope, and Laura House) wrote and starred in this Texas-set take on Seinfeld meets Slacker, which aired twelve episodes on MTV. Howard chats with us about making the show, playing Asteroids with Richard Linklater, and the prospect of performing stand-up for cars instead of people. It's a wild one! If you like what you hear, buy the show on DVD here!Next up! Sure, you love seeing monsters on screen, but have you ever tried to cast one? If so, you've probably called The United Monster Talent Agency, the premiere source for your monster casting needs (and also the name of a short film, directed by famed special effects creator Greg Nicotero, that we reviewed on the show). It's real short and real fun, and it's got those classic Universal monsters, so why not check it out here? Finally! It's an Oscar-nominated, heart-wrenchingly emotional Pixar short about old-timey, old-westy cowboys. It's the one with the blammo. This conversation with Pamela Gold, Founder of Hackd Fitness and Jennifer is full of radical insights into an energetic approach to actualizing body potential. Enhancing our capacity to thrive is part fascination with how the body can change itself and part exploration of making room for new beliefs about our body. This episode showcases both of these concepts and more. Pamela has been passionate about mind, body and spirit optimization from a very young age. An overachiever from the start, she grew up on a farm in upstate NY, attended Yale University as a Microbiology and Biochem major, and then moved to NYC where she supported the growth of a restaurant chain from 18 locations to over 100 and was the point person on an IPO, all by the age of 24. After becoming a mom, she became passionate about physical fitness and wellness and founded Fulfill Fitness, specializing in personal training and nutrition coaching. She then spent two years as President of The Beacon Program, a NYC behavioral therapy based food and weight clinic. What you’ll learn in this episode: What it actually means to make room for change on a spiritual, behavioral and physical level. Autonomy is the ultimate hack for resisting the marketing tricks of the fitness industry Any one- fit or feeling defeated- can benefit from the tips and techniques that pam shares todays Topics discussed : Integrating an energetic expression in fitness Independent thinking about your fitness journey- tips on making your journey aligned to your spirit Retraining the brain with body and emotional pain Mindfullness strategies Unrecognized trauma with food choices and fitness Being skillful with our habits The pillars of emotional behavior and healthy living Self development wisdom for the 2020 overload Relationship to food and emotional blocks Links of interest and books mentioned: Pam's best selling book: Find More Strength https://www.amazon.com/dp/0692843302/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_HH3ACb48MMDDS Follow Pam on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pamelapgold/ Victor Frankl https://www.viktorfrankl.org/ Untethered Soul https://www.amazon.com/Untethered-Soul-Journey-Beyond-Yourself/dp/1572245379 Self care and wellness Dr Mark Atkinson https://www.bulletproof.com/diet/self-care-ideas/ Jenn's practice in Alexandria Virginia- Holistic injury care and performance wellness Jenn's instagram and twitter SHARE insights, aha moments, and favorite quotes on your social media. What’s up! Today’s episode speaks on the concept of building a village—but before we can build that village, we must first seek to understand who we are, and the company we keep. Everyone in our lives serves a purpose, but sometimes that purpose does not serve us. In the realm of growth and understanding, we must make every effort to find those who will challenge us, better us, and love us—while allowing us to be open to doing the same for them. It’s a perpetual exchange of positivity, and that’s what will form the foundation for the villages we build. We hope you enjoy the show!******** Follow us on Social Media @CRTN_T! This episode was originally inspired by the Fuse Ladder and how much we use it in the Alexandria studio, Impact Your Fitness. Mariska Breland, the creator of the Fuse Ladder, a patented 8 in 1 fitness apparatus, sat down with Jenn and Tara to discuss all of our favorite things about the Fuse Ladder. There are so many important topics brought up in this conversation between three women who view strength as more important than correct form and looking pretty in yoga poses. If you’re a trainer or rehab professional, you’ll hear from a leader in fitness for neurological conditions and if you want to upgrade your studio or home gym for distanced sessions, this episode will give you an opportunity to learn more about how Jenn and Mariska have been thriving with the Fuse Ladder. A little bit about our guest and co-host: After overcoming MS and multiple injuries, Mariska had to swap running for pilates and yoga. She had been teaching since 2003, but her signature style, Fuse Pilates, was coined in 2005. Despite her background in neuroscience and passion for neuro physical therapy, life continued to push Mariska towards fitness and changing people’s lives in the pilates scene. Her favorite workouts combine gymnastics, strength training, and pilates. She also swears by using the Fuse Ladder! Tara began teaching Pilates mat classes in 2012 and completed her comprehensive apparatus training through Power Pilates in the summer of 2016. Ever the student, she still takes weekly lessons with senior teachers, and has attended continuing education workshops with Anula Maiberg, Andrea Maida, Benjamin Degenhardt, Blossom Crawford, and Bob Liekens, among others. Also an avid yogini, Tara completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training at Tranquil Space (now YogaWorks) in 2018 and is a registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance and is known for her warm and playful nature. Topics discussed: Limitations of yoga and pilates for improving bone health, posture and overall strength Avoiding injury as a yogi Utilizing the ladder for power, flexibility & corrective exercise Feeling empowered by pull ups Not allowing medical status or age determine your fitness level Using this as a pilates system and a fitness system Working with spring tension vs other types of resistance Misconceptions about balance training Working online and growing a training business Check out our guest and co-host: https://www.mariskabreland.com/about https://www.instagram.com/mariskabreland/ https://www.instagram.com/fuseladder/ https://www.instagram.com/theneurostudio/ https://www.thinkfitbefitpodcast.com/pilates-for-every-body/ https://www.instagram.com/tararose224/ Jenn's practice in Alexandria Virginia- Holistic injury care and performance wellness Jenn's instagram and twitter SHARE insights, aha moments, and favorite quotes on your social media. Hey everyone! We’re back this week and we’re talking about Black Cinema! One of the biggest trends I’ve realized in the trajectory of Black Films is pain. Whether it’s us being portrayed as slaves to slavers, or slaves to society, we’re seldom in a place of happiness, and consistently in a place of pain. I’d love to see more movies where we, as Black People, can have more feel-good adventures and stories that are more fantastical...as well as deep and meaningful, but the unfortunate thing is that we’re a long way from that...or are we? What’s good, y’all!! Today’s episode of #TARODCAST takes us into the potential scandal of the open relationship—mainly referencing the August Alsina/Jada Pinkett info bites that we all have been tuning into over the last week. We dig deeper into what it means to understand open relationships, as well as drive more understanding on appreciating and valuing who we are and the lane we are in as people. If you can look in the mirror and be okay with who you are...that’s all that matters. You’re an authentic person at that point. Jason Clarke - James - July 5 Recent life has felt out of control for many of us. We search for ways to feel like we have some control - through social media, through eating, through video games, through things that give us immediate gratification that we can cling to. But the truth is that people are hungry for something solid and real; they want to follow a steadfast voice. How can we possibly be a steadfast people during suffering and chaos? The answer is simple: Prayer. It is through connecting with the actual presence of God and connecting with His people. Join us as we learn about the words James gave the early church about how prayer can change us. JOIN THE CONVERSATION! How’s everybody doing!? Today’s episode of TARODCAST has a premise that was founded by “A Goofy Movie,” but there’s not much that’s truly “goofy” about it. To see things eye-to-eye means to understand, even if you don’t agree. As Black Americans, we sometimes have an issue with that—as we are very quick to discount someone’s very existence if they do not fit what we innately believe. Doing so, however, keeps us from building on our perspective on life, and hinders us from growing as individuals. Even if we disagree, we still owe it to ourselves to know, and also accept, that opinions will differ from ours, but they’re still welcome. Nolan Tjaden - James - June 21 Our lives are unpredictable. Our future is unpredictable. This year has certainly shown us that. Each one of us had very different plans for our lives than what has played out over the last few months. And our first inclination is all too often to feel angry, disappointed, and frustrated that we didn’t get to complete our own plans. But what if we first asked God before we made plans...and what if we saw our lack of control over our lives, not as a reason to fear, but as a beautiful invitation to submit to God’s infinitely better plan? Join us as we learn about what James taught the early church about the joy in submitting to the plan of an all-knowing God. JOIN THE CONVERSATION! Oh, no! A 32-hour podcast?? How is this even possible? WHY is this even possible? Even moreso than ever before, this is exactly what nobody ever asked for! So, it's come to this: a mid-week celebration of our Junk Food Junkies in the only sort of format that at least one of seems capable of producing: an over-long, rambling project cobbled together from tiny bits of history. That's right: carefully curated for you (and only you) to listen to: every single junkmail left for the show (several unaired) for the past ten years, carefully set to the beat of some of your favorite tunes. Sit back in your lawn chair, open up a Diet Pepsi, and crank up the volume of your favorite podcast listeners in those earphones until the neighbor's quarantine-breaking pool-party is nearly inaudible. Or just delete this weird audio artifact forever and never listen to it! Direct DonloydGot a movie suggestion for the show, or better yet an opinion on next week's movies? Jason Clarke - James - June 14 The recent months and weeks have caused so much struggle and unrest, and we are struggling to find answers to the current state of our world. We are looking for solutions. But until we understand that the brokenness of our world lies within us, we won’t get the whole picture. The world does not offer a solution - rather, the world is what we are called to serve. January 1, 2020 we were ringing in the New Year and venues were filled to capacity. Then the world stopped! Doors of businesses closed and some will never reopen. We find ourselves in a space and time where only the strongest survive. Tune-In as B. Brown discusses ownership and the current state of nightlife in Boston with guests: Nia Grace: Restaurateur and Roxbury, Massachusetts native, Nia Grace, is one of Boston’s few African-American bar owners. Nia, sole proprietor of Darryl’s Corner Bar and Kitchen, operates a particularly iconic restaurant and bar with a legacy that dates back to 1957 when it was known as Bob The Chef’s. Having been introduced to the restaurant hospitality industry over 20 years ago, it was fate that allowed this homegrown cook and live entertainment producer the ability to meld her passions in an environment that promotes what she loves most - friends, food, and music. Eddy Firmin: Seasoned hospitality veteran, Eddy Firmin, has been in the business for over 20 years. Eddy operates the only black-owned lounge in the city of Boston, Savvor Lounge which caters to a diverse urban audience with class and Caribbean flair. Eddy first made his mark in the nightlife industry as the co-owner and GM of Blue Wave Lounge. He is fueled by a passion to re-imagine and elevate the typical nightlife experiences. Hello music lovers!!! On this week's episode, we discuss the recent national and global protests demanding racial justice due to the violent killings of #GeorgeFloyd #AhmaudArbery and #BreonnaTaylor by police. The ladies also discussed the "impact" of the #BlackoutTuesday initiative created by the music industry to protest these incidents. Some streaming services created blacked out, silent, or minimal programming lasting 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the length of time it took for George Floyd's life to be taken. However some of us were not 100% impressed with their efforts and we challenged the music industry to do more! In addition, we provide listeners with resources they can use to help fight against police brutality if protesting on the front lines is not your lane. There is something we can all do to help fight for justice! Take a listen for more information! Hey y’all!Today’s episode talks about one thing that *should* unite the Black Community, and that is “Black Culture.” For centuries, African/Black Americans were at the forefront of innovation and creativity, yet have had a lot of that uniqueness repurposed, repackaged and displayed with faces that don’t resemble our own. Nowadays, when we think about upholding Black Culture, we also forget the darker parts of our culture that we typically tend to ignore and sweep under the rug. We also speak on Doja Cat and her most recent “cancel culture” controversy. We go in-depth and pull no punches, but also we take some time to think about the ways we can work towards the unification and rebuilding of Black Culture.******** Follow us on Social Media @CRTN_T!Support our Patreon! www.patreon.com/tarodcastPick up some merch! https://ForeverCRTN.redbubble.com!Join The Conversation on Throne! https://throne.live/share?room=@TarodMcKnightContact us! tarodcast@crtn-t.com ********Support The Resilient Lotus!Visit https://www.theresilientlotus.com and use promo code “TARODCAST” to receive a discount on your purchase!Support #Morenita’s Salsitas!
