In this podcast, Julie dives into what the word balance really means. Historically, if you are putting a lot of energy into one area, there tends to be another area that doesn’t get your full attention. This is why balance seems so unachievable! So what is harmony? Harmony by definition is a “situation in which people are peaceful and agree with each other”. Ahhh, sounds so nice and really what most of us desire in our lives. Balance by definition is “the condition of someone or something in which its weight is equally divided so it can stay in one position or be under control while moving”. Balance sounds rigid and unattainable. The concept of balance is a myth and really sets us up for failure. By being fully present with what you are doing and being fully devoted to what you are doing at any given time may lend itself naturally to more balance. Is it harmony or balance that you’re seeking? Habits! It’s easier to form better habits when your schedule or routine is off or different than the norm. You will build in a space in your new routine for what you are wanting to add. Use the internet for new resources. Online workouts (yogi approved is my fave, bender fitness is another fave), virtual field trips for kids, etc. Beth Wood (instagram: @essentially_obsessed_life/fb: essentially obsessed life Beth Wood): Aromatherapy playdough-2 cups flour, 2 cups colored water, 1 cup salt, 1 tbs olive oil, 1 tsp cream of tartar, and 5 drops essential oil of your choice. Calming oils, focus oils, immunity oils…..all of those are very important right now. Get outside. Regardless of the weather, make it a point to get outside everyday. Julie Davey(fb: Julie Davey, NP/instagram: @juliedaveyn/www.juliedavey.com): Best fruits/veggies to stock up on during quarantine time. Apples-will last for months in the refrigerator. Bananas-buy them as green as possible. Once they start to ripen, add them to the refrigerator. When/if they start to go bad, peel them and put in the freezer for smoothies, breads, etc. Citrus fruits-can last months in the fridge. Lime is great in savory dishes. Oranges-great for a snack and great for immunity boosting due to the vitamin c! Berries-freeze berries if you see them going bad. You can use them in smoothies and baking. In this episode, Julie Davey will share her advice for beating your brain fog. She'll focus on what essential oils help with brain fog, what you can do to support your memory and focus naturally, as well as what essential oils are good to use while studying.
In this episode, Julie gives a great overview of 3 cool things about essential oils and then talks about the 3 ways to use essential oils in our everyday life! 3 cool things about essential oils: -100% natural & safe: The first cool thing about dōTERRA essential oils is that they’re 100% natural and safe. There’s nothing added to the oil or taken away from the oil. They’re just simply pure essential oils with no side effects and no addictions. They’re safe for babies, children, adults and the elderly. Oils are extracts from plants that have amazing health benefits. Pure oil is about 50-70 times more powerful than herbs. One drop of peppermint essential oil is equivalent to drinking 28 cups of peppermint tea. So they’re really potent! The CPTG standard for doTERRA essential oils is important for many reasons. It stands for Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade, and it means these oils are completely pure and potent. Pure means there are no foreign contaminants or fillers. Potent means that each plant was grown in a part of the world where that plant grows best, resulting in the absolute best chemistry for that plant. When you have the ideal natural chemistry, the essential oil extracted does exactly what we want it to do for our health. -More Effective Than Many Modern approaches to health problems: Let’s say this is a cell in your body (hold up your fist), and we know that cells have oily cell membranes. The cell membrane protects the cell, it keeps all the good things in and all the bad things out. Now two of the things that are harmful to our cells are Bacteria and viruses. Bacteria usually form on the outside of the cell and viruses duplicate the DNA on the inside of the cell. All you have to remember is bacteria on the outside viruses on the inside. Let’s say you went to the doctor with a bacterial infection. What would he recommend for you? (Give you an antibiotic) And after taking the antibiotic for 7-10 days in most cases, it would probably clear up the infection - but it often comes with wreaking havoc on your gut, hormones, and immune system. Now if you had a virus like the cold or flu, what would he say? (Go home, drink a lot of water, rest and let it run its course) The reason why is because most of the modern recommendations are water-based synthetic agents - and frequently come with side-effects and addictions. Water and oil don’t mix, so if the recommendation from your doctor is water-based, it will have a really hard time penetrating through that oily cell membrane and stopping the duplication of a virus. Essential oils are different they are oil-based, which means they can permeate that cell membrane! They can work on a cellular level without side-effects or addictions, and they can combat bacteria on the outside of the cell and prevent the duplication of viruses on the inside. That is why they are often more effective than the modern approach to health problems. -Cheaper Than Traditional Medical Care: Think about how much your Dr copay is, then your prescription copay, then taking off work and not even all of those things- just simply the hassle! What if you had effective tools at home to use? An example is an ear ache. 2 drops lavender + 2 drops melaleuca applied topically to the outside of the ear 2-3 times/day and the next day, most likely it's a lot better. And that cost about a dollar! 3 ways to use essential oils: -Aromatically: If you take your fingers and pinch right above the bridge of your nose-- Right under your fingers is your olfactory nerve. This nerve sends messages to the limbic system in your brain, which in turn sends messages all over the body. Sometimes people think it's hokey to say oils could affect the body just by smelling them, but let me illustrate: When you go to the hospital for surgery and need to be put under, how do they deliver the anesthesia?- not a shot or a pill... you breathe in something! It's the fastest way to access the brain! Ways to use aromatically: a diffuser, breathing in from your hands or directly from the bottle. -Topically: You can actually apply oils directly to the skin. For children and people with sensitive skin, you’ll want to dilute them with fractionated coconut oil. It’s just as effective; it just takes a little longer to absorb. You can even apply oils to the bottoms of your feet - including babies - and it won’t bother them. The pores on the bottom of your feet are really big and the oil absorbs very quickly into the bloodstream. It’s a great way to get oils into your system fast. Areas to apply topically: pulse points (wrists, back of ears, back of the neck, temples), the bottom of feet or "where it hurts" -Internally: These essential oils are not only safe to use internally, but they are also RECOMMENDED. The CPTG standard means these oils are a medicinal-grade and are completely safe to ingest - unlike most other brands. You can put them in your mouth or drink them in water. If you don’t like the taste, put them in a veggie capsule. It’s like concocting your own little natural remedy. More kids have access to screens these days from tablets to phones to video games. With schools bringing technology into their learning environments, I know that your tween is most likely getting more screen time than you ever thought they would. Tips on cutting down on screen time! 1.Observation is key. How much screen time are your tweens and teens actually getting? Set limits based on observations and develop a plan. Allow your children to be involved in the decisions. Kids want to be involved in the decision making process, allow them to observe their own behaviors and talk through that with them. Also, allow them to come up with healthy solutions/consequences. Be clear on the rules and then enforce them. Broken rules require consequences. 2.Create some healthy boundaries, hourly limit? No phones in the bedrooms at night, no phones at the dinner table, no looking at the phone while someone is talking to the phone holder. 3.What is best for your family? I would rather teach my children how to utilize technology and properly manage their screen time now, than set them up for failure as adults. Avoid being a hypocrite! It’s hard to set and enforce limits if you don’t abide by any yourself. Lead by example. Healthy Travel Tips: Be prepared- always have food and water with you so that you aren't quick to make a bad choice. Some of Julie’s favorite foods to travel with are salads, saving the plastic containers that your lettuce comes in or put your salad in a gallon ziplock bag. Remember to keep your salad dressing separate so that your lettuce doesn't get wilted. The small disposable condiment containers can be found near the sandwich bags or aluminum foil. For protein, wild caught tuna is great (Wild Planet or Safe Catch are good brands), leftover chicken works well also. For a plant-based protein, consider chickpeas, lentils, quinoa, or hemp seeds. Keeping a small bottle of olive oil in your purse and asking for fresh lemon at a restaurant makes a good healthy salad dressing :) Using those to condiment containers are a great way to store snacks like nut butter and mixed nuts. Fruit that does not require refrigeration such as apples, oranges, peaches or bananas is another great traveling snack. Veggies like mini carrots and peppers are good to snack on with hummus or guacamole. Crackers are good to eat as well with your salad, hummus or guacamole. Julie's homemade trail mix: raisins or dried cranberries, mixed nuts, and chocolate chips. If you are taking a cooler, freeze some yogurt pops, such as Stonyfield. Julie also recommends Siggis brand for a traditional dairy yogurt and Kite Hill for dairy free alternative. Make sure that you also have water bottles in the cooler too. If you are going on a long road trip and you are trying to make good choices, consider putting your snacks out of arms reach so that you are not just snacking to snack. For hotel travel, Julie takes a small cooler and uses the hotel's mini-fridge and free ice. As far as the continental breakfast, boiled eggs with some Everything But The Bagel seasoning (carry with you) sprinkled on top with hot sauce are a fav. Yogurt and fruit from the breakfast bar is also another good option. For air travel, make sure that you have a stainless steel water bottle and your favorite essential oils to stay hydrated. Favorite Brands Crackers/Chips: Mary’s Gone Crackers Simple Mills Farm Crackers Siete Tortilla Chips Mixed Nuts: Back to Nature Trader Joes Great Fruits to travel with: Apple Banana Orange Veggies for snacking with hummus or guac: Carrots Cucumbers Peppers Guacamole: Wholly guacamole (single serve containers) Bars: RX bars (chocolate sea salt are delish) Lara Bars Epic Popcorn: Angie’s or Skinny Pop or kettle corn Nut butters (Almond is a fav): Trader Joes Santa Cruz Rx Butter Yogurt: Siggis Kite Hill Things to keep in your purse: Small bottle of olive oil Everything But the Bagel seasoning Chocolate Energy Bites recipe: http://www.anaturalshift.com/energy-bites/ Connect with us→ via social media: Facebook: www.facebook.com/anaturalshift Instagram: www.instagram.com/anaturalshift/ Follow Julie-->www.instagram.com/julieanndavey/ Follow Kari--> www.instagram.com/karicoody/ On the web: www.anaturalshift.com Check out our FREE goodies for you! ebooks: https://anaturalshift.com/free-e-books/ Printables: https://anaturalshift.com/free-printables/ Links to listen:

This is the first time in my career that I have ever done this! Over my 11 years as an entrepreneur owning two businesses and an investor in many others (both silent and active), I never have publically mentioned any business partners of mine. This episode Julie Davey talk about how she cleans her home without using harsh chemicals. She'll address the big questions like: How can I clean my house without chemicals? What is the best natural cleaning solution? As well as: How can I use essential oils to keep my home clean?
Kari and Julie share with you the importance of a reset and what that means. We all have the best intentions of taking care of ourselves, but when we wear so many hats its easy to get off track. The reset is not a quick fix or just for weight loss, it is a mind shift and a way to better care for ourselves. What is the reset exactly? It is a combination of doTerra’s cleanse and restore kit + Whole30. We find that these two programs work amazingly well together. Our bodies get overloaded with toxins and we need help to flush them out. The Whole30 is an eating plan for 30 days that is all about resetting your health, habits, and relationship with food. The premise is that certain food groups may be having a negative impact on your health and quality of life without you even realizing it. Even so called "healthy" foods! The cleanse is going to help you rebuild your cells and clean out your gut to give you a clean slate. Through Whole30 you will find your food freedom and realize how your body responds to different foods. If this all sounds intimidating, don't you worry! Join Julie and Kari as they share tips on why self-care is so important! To Julie, putting herself first and making sure that she is getting the things that she needs is crucial. Taking little steps every day, like working out, having a quiet time, and using essential oils are all rituals in her self care routine. Julie encourages women by reminding them that we all have the same amount of time, it's all about making self-care a priority because you are your greatest investment! For Kari, her self care journey started after she had her daughter. Kari realized that she needed to make time for herself in order to be the best mom and wife she could be. Kari wants women to know that when a woman says she doesn't have time, she is saying that she isn't worth it. Changing self-talk from negative words into positive words of affirmations is so important! Some self-care tips that Julie and Kari share in the episode: Junk in = junk out (you are what you eat) Eat whole foods that fuel your body! Add in the things that make you feel good like water and vibrant foods. Morning Routines- getting up early before the rest of the house to have some quiet time.
