How are your magnesium levels? Probably, not that great. The truth is most of us do not have optimal magnesium levels, and that is where most of our diseases stem from. The immune system is one of the most important systems in your body to fight and prevent diseases. However, a strong immune system depends on a high vitamin D level, which is made active by a good amount of magnesium. Shockingly, magnesium is our number one deficiency, with 80%-95% of us being extremely deficient. Your cortisol increases when you get stressed or frustrated, leading to magnesium loss through the urine. If you eat sugar, processed food and drink alcohol, it eats up your magnesium to process their digestion. Since our modern lifestyle is a threat to the magnesium levels in our bodies, we need to know how to offset that and live healthier. In this episode, Kristen Bowen, the founder of Living the Good Life Naturally, joins us to share the importance of magnesium and why it is so essential for our body's function. She explains her three and half years of a health crisis and how she cracked the code with magnesium. Let's jump in! Snapshot of the Key Points from the Episode: [02:00] Kristen's journey of creating a healthy life naturally using magnesium [05:53] Why is magnesium so essential to our health? [08:07] What happens when we soak our bodies in magnesium? What is cell saturation? Lisa is joined by Kristen Bowen, the founder of Living the Good Life Naturally, who talks about transdermal magnesium, chronic illness, the toll her chronic illness took on her children, and the importance of open communication for healing,. It took a complete health crash to lead Kristen Bowen to create Living the Good Life Naturally in 2002. Autoimmune issues and a series of failed surgeries left Kristen bedridden and depressed, with daily seizures. Through research and looking for outside the box solutions, she discovered that to regain her health she needed to build a strong foundation. That foundation included food as medicine and the number one building block for optimal health: Magnesium. She discovered that oral magnesium was not effective and began using liquid magnesium as a foot soak, finding that the body could utilize it more effectively. As Kristen's health improved, she began to research and create natural bath and body products for herself, family, and friends with skin sensitivities. She began sharing her knowledge as she researched and found clean sources of whole food supplements and minerals. She never intended to start a business, but friends offered to pay her for her products and advice. Living the Good Life Naturally was created.Starting with one-on-one consultations with clients, to farmers markets for the bath and body line, Kristen's business quickly moved from the small kitchen and extra bedroom in her home to a retail space in Logan, Utah. She hosted a Rocky Mountain Regional radio show for seven years where she answered questions on natural health. This led to workshops and keynote opportunities at natural health conferences. This quickly led to needing a full-time team for production, dealing with marketing, running the retail shop, and a multitude of things that it takes to run a business. From small beginnings in her 10 by 15 basement kitchen to her warehouse, store, and online business, Kristen has helped thousands of individuals reclaim their own health foundation. Does better sleep, less anxiety, more focus, more energy, and an all around better quality of life sound good to you? Let's find out how transdermal magnesium may be able to help you achieve that and more. Kristen Bowen is the owner of Living The Good Life Naturally, where they specialize in magnesium soaks, sprays, and lotions. Unlike traditional oral magnesium, there are no digestion issues, and you absorb much more with the transdermal method. Having a cell saturation of 6.3 or higher is ideal, and within just 30 days using transdermal magnesium you should be at least a 5. Kristen stumbled upon transdermal magnesium after suffering through the worst health crash of her life. After having her 4th child, Kristen needed to undergo a surgery. For the next 3.5 years following the surgery, Kristen would experience daily seizures, be confined to a wheelchair, need a colonoscopy bag, and a catheter bag. This was all a massive stress on Kristen's family, and it was her husband that ultimately discovered it was a reaction to the titanium introduced to her body. While learning to put her health back together, she discovered that it is much more expensive to be sick than it is to be healthy, so she spared no expense in the pursuit. After finding what worked for her, Kristen's health began to dramatically improve, and people started asking questions. This is when Kristen discovered she loved talking about it, and helping other people. No matter the disease or ailment, magnesium is a great place to start, as it's like a spark plug for your body. Many people will actually experience a tingling sensation as the lymph nodes pull the magnesium up through the feet. While you can add ¼ cup to your bath and soak your whole body, all that's really needed is to soak your feet. Even kids can benefit from soaking, only requiring an ⅛ cup. Soaking for 20 minutes will uptake about 80% of the magnesium, where soaking for 45 minutes uptakes about 98%. Most of us have experienced some sort of trauma in childhood, and that can lead to a disregulated nervous system, which leads to an increased magnesium burn rate. Other factors, such as smoking, drinking, or stress, can all deplete magnesium levels. Addressing these other factors while using transdermal magnesium is essential. It's also important to make sure you're getting high quality magnesium. Kristen shares that she could get it much cheaper from Utah, but it would be very high in heavy metals. All of her magnesium is sourced from deep beneath the earth's surface from the Zechstein Sea, and is third party tested for purity. In as little as a few weeks, people report better sleep, more stability, calmer mood, weight loss, clear skin, and blood sugar regulation. Now, Kristen wants people to have reasonable expectations. Magnesium isn't a cure-all for everything, but it is a great starting place. For instance, if you're still exhausted after introducing magnesium, that's your body telling you that you are low on potassium. Magnesium and potassium work great together. If you're interested in seeing what transdermal magnesium can do for you, head over to www.livingthegoodlifenaturally.com and enter promo code ‘underdog' to receive a percentage off. Through her entrepreneurial journey, Kristen has learned that it can be a very lonely road. It's easy to buy into the lies that everyone else is doing better than you because you just see their highlight reels. She encourages other entrepreneurs to look up, reach out, and connect. When we share a connection with someone, both people are lifted. What You'll Learn: How deep connection with others helps to regulate the nervous system. The difference between soaking in epsom salts and magnesium. How to know how often you'll need to do a magnesium soak. And much more! One of the most essential and overlooked minerals around is magnesium. Magnesium is a critical player in hundreds of bodily functions, so it comes as no surprise that it plays a role in weight loss. Unfortunately, for a majority of us, we are grossly deficient due to the fact that magnesium isn't as readily available in our food supply as it once was. So to get us up to speed on this topic, we invited Kristen Bowen to the show. Kristen is the founder of Living The Good Life Naturally and shares how a complete health crash lead her to look for outside-the-box solutions to regain her health and eventually stumbled upon magnesium.
About Kristen Bowen: Kristen Bowen is a magnesium advocate, social entrepreneur, and Founder of Living The Good Life Naturally. She has spent the last two decades helping women become comfortable with their power so that they can create optimal health. It took a complete health crash that led Kristen to create Living the Good Life Naturally in 2002. A bladder surgery where titanium was put into her body left Kristen bedridden, depressed, and in a wheelchair with daily seizures. Through research and looking for outside-the-box solutions, she discovered she had Melisa syndrome. An allergic reaction to the titanium used in bladder surgery. Taking it out was crucial, but she was left with a body that did not function. Putting the pieces back required her to stop chasing symptoms and to start building a strong foundation. Kristen's business quickly moved from the small kitchen and extra bedroom in her home to a retail space in Logan, Utah. She hosted a Rocky Mountain radio show for seven years on KVNU Talk Radio, where she answered questions on natural health. This led to workshops and keynote opportunities at natural health conferences. What We Discuss In This Episode: Why soak in magnesium instead of taking a pill? In each moment, you choose which side of it to embrace, and that affects your mind, body and soul, your present and your future, the person you become, as well as other people in your lifeDo you know how to live a good life?Living a good life can mean a myriad of things. Your definition of a good life is different from any other person in the world. In its basic form, a good life explores the things and feelings that give you joy and satisfaction. It's all about finding purpose and happiness in what you do.The good life is a state where a person has a high standard of living while adhering to moral and ethical laws. For some, a good life may mean basking in nature every single day. For others, it means dedicating their life to be of service to others. There are also people whose definition of a good life means playing video games and eating whatever they please.Every person you have met wants to live a good life. Unfortunately, many still associate living a good life with social status, wealth, and even fame, hoping that material things and money will help them live life to the fullest. However, that is not a holistic definition of a good life. Instead, it is a life lived with integrity and joy.About Kristen:Kristen Bowen is a magnesium advocate, social entrepreneur, and Founder of Living The Good Life Naturally. It took a complete health crash to lead Kristen Bowen to create Living the Good Life Naturally in 2002. Autoimmune issues and a series of failed surgeries left Kristen bedridden and depressed, with daily seizures. Through research and looking for outside-the-box solutions, she discovered that to regain her health she needed to build a strong foundation. Living the Good Life Naturally was created. Starting with one-on-one consultations with clients, to farmers markets for the bath and body line, Kristen's business quickly moved from the small kitchen and extra bedroom in her home to a retail space in Logan, Utah. She hosted a Rocky Mountain Regional radio show for seven years where she answered questions on natural health. This led to workshops and keynote opportunities at natural health conferences. Kristen Bowen is a magnesium advocate, social entrepreneur, and Founder of Living The Good Life Naturally. She has spent the last two decades helping women become comfortable with their power so that they can create optimal health. Kristen lives in Morro Bay, California, with her husband, Morgan, a recent double amputee. Together they are learning to dance to a new rhythm. They have six adult children, seven perfect grandchildren, and one adorable Shih Tzu named Louis. Starting with one-on-one consultations with clients, to farmer's markets for the bath and body line, Kristen's business quickly moved from the small kitchen and extra bedroom in her home to a retail space in Logan, Utah. She hosted a Rocky Mountain radio show for seven years on KVNU Talk Radio, where she answered questions on natural health. This led to workshops and keynote opportunities at natural health conferences. This quickly led to needing a full-time team to produce products, deal with marketing, and run our retail shop, online classes, and guest podcasting/live classes. From small beginnings in her 10X15 basement kitchen to her warehouse, store, and online business, Kristen has helped thousands of women rebuild their health foundation. As she tells her clients: “You are the CEO of your health. Let me be on your board of directors.” Living the Good Life Naturally supports the Uganda Project that provides living wages to female entrepreneurs rendering cocoa butter in communal kitchens and using that income to feed and educate their children. I am fascinated by how nutrition can affect our health and the role it plays in many chronic and lifestyle diseases that plague our world, and so when I heard about Kristen Bowen and Living the Good Life Naturally, I didn't hesitate to reach out. She sent me a bottle of magnesium soak and I tried it with an open mind. I don't have health issues other than my ever-present orthopedic and running problems, so I wasn't looking to cure any particular malady. However, I am a notoriously poor sleeper, and I did discover after using it that my sleeping has markedly improved. Obviously, sleeping is a major determinant in our recovery rates and other areas like alertness and productivity, so this is a welcome life enhancement. One of the athletes I coach has told me that she uses magnesium soaks to successfully lessen the frequency and severity of her migraines. This is a really good chat, and Kristen does a great job here of explaining the science behind magnesium in our bodies, what makes it an essential mineral, the issues that can arise when we don't get enough of it, and the best ways to add to our intake and absorption of it whether through foods or transdermal methods like soaks. Kristen lives in a really beautiful part of the California coast, so I think that also contributes to her upbeat demeanor when discussing magnesium. Through research and looking for outside the box solutions, she discovered that to regain her health she needed to build a strong foundation. That foundation included food as medicine and the number one building block for optimal health: soaking in magnesium. Click here to get started on your magnesium soak journey. In this episode of TribeTalk, Dr. V and Ann learn all about the benefits of magnesium soaks from a woman who used the treatment as part of her healing journey from a severe titanium allergy. Kristen Bowen is a magnesium advocate, social entrepreneur, and Founder of Living The Good Life Naturally. It took a complete health crash that led Kristen to create Living the Good Life Naturally in 2002. A bladder surgery where titanium was put into her body left Kristen bedridden, depressed, and in a wheelchair with daily seizures. Since overcoming that health crisis - she has spent the last two decades helping women become comfortable with their power, so that they can create optimal health. Starting with one-on-one consultations with clients, to farmers markets for the bath and body line, Kristen's business quickly moved from the small kitchen and extra bedroom in her home to a retail space in Logan, Utah. She hosted a Rocky Mountain radio show for seven years on KVNU Talk Radio where she answered questions on natural health. This led to workshops, and keynote opportunities at natural health conferences. This quickly led into needing a full-time team to produce products, deal with marketing, and run our retail shop, online classes, and guest podcasting/live classes. Kristen lives in Morro Bay, California with her husband, Morgan, a recent double amputee. Together they are learning to dance to a new rhythm. They have six adult children, seven perfect grandchildren, and one adorable Shih Tzu named Louis. ******************************************************* What you need to know about TribeTalk - TribeTalk LIVE is a community platform bringing to you health experts from around the world. - TribeTalk is FREE - Learn more on how to participate by visiting our website or Facebook Page https://www.modernholistichealth.com https://www.facebook.com/ModernHolisticHealth/
On today's episode of the Spapreneur® Podcast, Ramona is joined by the incredible Kristen Bowen. It took a complete health crash to lead Kristen Bowen to create Living the Good Life Naturally in 2002. Autoimmune issues and a series of failed surgeries left Kristen bedridden and depressed, with daily seizures. Through research and looking for outside-the-box solutions, she discovered that to regain her health, she needed to build a strong foundation. That foundation included food as medicine and the number one building block for optimal health: Magnesium. She discovered that oral magnesium was not effective and began using liquid magnesium as a foot soak, finding that the body could utilize it more effectively. Kristen's health improved. She began to research and create natural bath and body products for herself, her family, and friends with skin sensitivities. She began sharing her knowledge as she researched and found clean sources of whole food supplements and minerals. She never intended to start a business, but friends offered to pay her for her products and advice. Living the Good Life Naturally was created. Starting with one-on-one consultations with clients to farmers markets for the bath and body line, Kristen's business quickly moved from the small kitchen and extra bedroom in her home to a retail space in Logan, Utah. She hosted a Rocky Mountain Regional radio show for seven years, where she answered natural health questions. This led to workshops and keynote opportunities at natural health conferences. This quickly led to needing a full-time team for production, dealing with marketing, running the retail shop, and many things that it takes to run a business. From small beginnings in her 10 by 15 basement kitchen to her warehouse, store, and online business, Kristen has helped thousands of individuals reclaim their own health foundation. As she tells her clients: “You are the CEO of your health. Let me be on your board. Today's guest is no stranger to health issues, as she's experienced them as a teenager and as an adult. After having her 4th child, Kristen Bowen started experiencing urinary incontinence. She did what many women are told to do and had surgery. Immediately after (and even during the procedure itself) Kristen's most traumatic health journey began. She started experiencing seizures, was unable to walk, confined to a wheelchair, her hair was falling out, and she got down to 74 pounds. As she searched for answers her family was running through their savings, going from doctor to doctor, even visiting the Mayo Clinic and Stanford, but no one was able to help her. It wasn't until getting to their wit's end, both financially and emotionally, that they finally received some answers from a PA willing to dig deep. And while her major symptoms improved, there was still work to be done! Kristen's story took a powerful turn after a friend suggested soaking in magnesium. Not only did the magnesium help her truly recover, but it sparked a new passion and mission! She created her own company, Living the Good Life Naturally, sourcing the very best magnesium possible to help people everywhere obtain this essential mineral in the most effective and efficient way, through the skin! Topics Include: building a strong foundation taking responsibility for our health and how to get started what happens when we're magnesium deficient what strips magnesium magnesium today versus our grandparents time oral magnesium versus transdermal magnesium long term consequence of oral magnesium supplements "cell saturation" what happens to body once you do get magnesium when and how often to soak in magnesium magnesium “burn rate” epson salt versus transdermal soak how to source magnesium prioritizing yourself finding and experiencing gratitude “The Artist Way” book benefits of journaling how she started her company Receive 10% off your order by using the code REFINEDHIPPIE. Headaches can be a fact of life during menopause. The pain can sometimes get quite debilitating and we search for a solution--any solution to relieve it. The problem with any quick fix is that while it can provide temporary relief, it rarely addresses the root cause of the suffering. However, when we truly take the time to tune in to our bodies, we may find that these kinds of pains are the body's signal that it needs and wants something from us. This is a return visit to the podcast for my guest Dr. Michelle Veneziano. She was also a guest in our 79th episode The Healing Power of the Tongue. I highly suggest that you tune in to that episode first if you haven't heard it yet as the things we discuss here are related to that one. We covered a lot of things in this podcast like the reason there is suffering and why it's important to listen to our bodies when it is going through pain. It also gets even more interesting as we discuss the reason behind developing a spiritual practice to get our bodies into a rhythm.
