Catharine's journey into the fascinating world of algae began in 2008 when her younger sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and advised by her oncologist that an alkaline diet would improve her healing. Catharine left her 25-year corporate career to help her sister identify which foods were alkaline which led her to discovering algae - the most alkaline, chlorophyll-rich, high-protein, nutrient-dense food in the world. When Catharine learned that algae's vast healing properties were documented in tens of thousands of scientific studies but that none of these studies or algae's benefits were known outside of Asia, she knew she needed to do something. I started my account about 3.5 years ago as a creative outlet for me as a way to share recipes that I loved and adored but made with simpler and healthier ingredients. I had just quit my dream of pursuing a career in modeling and was trying to navigate what a healthy relationship with food looked like for me. In order to book jobs in the modeling industry, I was instructed by agents that I needed to lose a lot of weight, which I did. But in turn I developed a really unhealthy and restrictive relationship with food. When I started my account I was fully vegan because it was a way for me to restrict the foods that I loved, I thought the less that I was allowed to eat then the more weight I would lose. For the first two years working on Lovely Delites I shared full vegan and gluten-free recipes even though behind the scenes, I was working with lifting all restrictions on my diet. Since then, I have started to share non-vegan recipes too, however my page still remains with an emphasis on vegan and gluten-free recipes. This is because cooking this way makes me feel good and also it's very inclusive for anyone and any diet. Even if you are not v/gf you can still enjoy these types of recipes. Since I've adapted into more of a flexitarian diet, I have fully healed my relationship with food and now I share online with my audience that you can also still include your favorite foods into your diet and still live a healthy and balanced lifestyle. I no longer restrict anything, I honor my cravings and I am the healthiest I have ever been in my life. My goal is to hopefully inspire anyone who may be dealing with a restrictive diet that it's okay, there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that you can truly have both. I played all throughout high school and college and after my career was over, I struggled to find my path with fitness and nutrition. I knew the food I was eating probably wasn't the best for me but didn't know where to start. I spent about 2 years being extremely inactive after volleyball was over and knew I needed to make a change. On this episode, April dives into the importance of having awareness of what is added to the wine you drink and what sets Dry Farm Wines apart from the rest. Little did you know, wine has SO much added ingredients that are not doing good for the body. Dry Farm Wines is different because of the purity and story behind each bottle. Check out at the bottom the promotion you can have by listening! Logan's career is defined by her commitment to making a meaningful impact in areas of environmental sustainability, social impact, and health. Her business journey began with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Medicine, Health & Society from Vanderbilt University. From there, she launched into Healthcare Labor Management Consulting at Huron Consulting Group, where she worked to help hospitals reduce cost of care. The American hospital system taught Logan a lesson: health in this country can be reactive, not proactive. Logan decided to take a proactive approach, working for three years in operations for Limeade, a SaaS company focused on improving organizations' employee engagement and wellness. To take her impact to the next level, Logan went back to school. Earning her MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management, Logan focused on social impact and ethical, environmentally sustainable supply chains. This launched her into a new chapter, where she became head of operations for the world's leading Natural Wine brand, Dry Farm Wines. Helping spread sustainable practices and spearhead industry-leading change in everything from farming practices to consumer transparency, Logan continues to push the envelope to make social and sustainable change. As she advances this effort, Logan's eye will always be on helping nourish the next generation of women leaders.
