The Thing That Watched Us From the Woods: Debra's Red River Encounter | Pt. 1

What happens when a quiet ranch on the edge of the Red River becomes a hotbed of bizarre and terrifying encounters? In this chilling episode, we sit down with Debra, a North Texas mother and longtime Bigfoot Society listener, who bravely shares the strange and unsettling phenomena she and her family have experienced over the years. From a barn filled with mutilated goats, to an intelligent presence choosing which roosters should live — and which should die — Deborah's accounts are unlike anything we've heard before. You'll hear about the strange voices mimicking owls and people, the creature caught watching her from 50 feet away, and the moment she realized something out there was not only real — it was aware. With encounters near Thackerville, Lake Texoma, and the eerie forests surrounding Purgatory, Oklahoma, this episode dives deep into the heart of Texas' cryptid activity. If you're drawn to tales of mystery, survival, and the unexplainable intelligence of Sasquatch, you won't want to miss this one. Send us a textWhat do you get when three degenerates dig up cringey home videos, debate astronaut nut trajectories, and confess to hoarding junk like emotional support USB cables? Pure, unfiltered chaos—welcome to The Funky Panther.Javier stumbles upon a camcorder from his hormone-riddled youth and unleashes footage so humiliating it should be classified under the Geneva Convention. Naturally, this spirals into a confessional about the crap we cling to for no reason—shoeboxes, old tech, and probably some repressed trauma. Oh, and let's not forget the cursed GoPro currently marinating in Lake Texoma that allegedly holds footage too spicy for YouTube. Then it gets weirder. The guys dive into NASA's recent astronaut rescue, but instead of celebrating science, they spiral into a fever dream of surviving space madness armed only with early-2000s music videos and a questionable Wi-Fi signal. And yes, we go there: bodily fluids in zero gravity. Spoiler alert—it's not as poetic as Interstellar.Things heat up when the crew debates whether paying $500 to breathe the same air as a celebrity is dumb or dangerously horny. Plus, they test their sanity with “AI or Insane Person?”—because in 2025, your toaster might be smarter (and sassier) than your last Tinder date.Is talking to your dog cute, or are we just one step away from marrying Alexa? CJ opens this podcast by pondering the concept of gratitude. He shares his appreciation for a great year, including multiple speaking engagements at several art groups and Artisan Santa Fe, his successful solo show "Emotional RollerCoaster," and his first Spiritual Artist Retreat at Lake Texoma, north of Dallas. He mentions that the highlight of his Spiritual Artist Retreat was realizing the importance of finding an art community. He encourages the listeners to find a local group of artists in their community. According to Chris, gratitude is shifting consciousness and aligning yourself with this higher power. Creativity occurs in a space of gratitude and love. Align yourself with the love of everything around you and put yourself in that space where you can receive divine intuition from Spirit. He shares his Receptivity Chart and explains that Spirit speaks to us always, but when we are in love and gratitude, we hear the message most clearly. He describes a simple gratitude practice where you use your fingers to count up to 10 things you are grateful for and the importance of starting small. Slowly work yourself up to more substantial and decisive points of gratitude until you mention at least ten things. It will become easier and easier to feel gratitude.  We always have the choice to feel fear or see ease in any situation. Still, when we use a gratitude practice, we align with Divine Intelligence and open our receptivity channel to its guidance. For more information, visit www.spiritualartistoday.com or purchase his book, "The Spiritual Artist" on Amazon.

Gus Clemens on Wine explores and explains the world of wine in simple, humorous, fun posts

This is the weekly newspaper columnTexas wine AVAs episode #2 10-11-2023Texas wine facts: Texas is the fifth-largest winemaking state, behind California, Washington, New York, and Oregon. And Texas wine is No. 3 in economic impact, just behind California and New York. Both rankings according to the National Association of American Wineries. There are eight Texas AVAs (American Viticultural Regions). Last week we examined three around Fredericksburg, this week the remaining five.• Texas High Plains. Heart of the Texas wine grape growing, a monster AVA spanning eight million acres of the Texas Panhandle, basically from Lubbock to Brownfield. Grows 80-plus percent of Texas wine grapes, supplying wineries across Texas and beyond. Located on the Llano Estacado, one of Earth's flattest expanses. First thought—how could this be?Topography. The elevation is 2,800 to more than 4,000 feet. It is called the “High Plains” for a reason. Such elevations include some of the world's premier wine regions, especially in the Americas—think Chile and Argentina. Climate is dry, but there is irrigation. Sandy loam soil drains well and vexes phylloxera. Brisk winds thwart mildew. Plunging nighttime temperatures deliver important diurnal shift. That is a textbook definition of a wine grape region.• Escondido Valley. Far West Texas, just north of the Big Bend. Covers 50 square miles, 250 acres of vineyards. Contains some of the oldest vines in Texas, provides hot days, cold nights, sandy soil. It once supplied grapes to the huge Ste. Genevieve Winery in Fort Stockton, but that enterprise folded. Now supplies grapes to the rest of Texas.• Mesilla Valley. West of El Paso, includes part of New Mexico. There are 40 acres of vines that benefit from the 4,300 feet altitude; most of the vines are in New Mexico.• Texas Davis Mountains. The Davis Mountains, part of the Rocky Mountains, are rugged and deliver 5,400 foot elevations, cooler temperatures, and more precipitation. Challenges, yes. Rewards, yes. The AVA is some 270,000 acres, but less than 50 acres of vineyards. The new frontier of Texas AVAs. Look for Blue Mountain Vineyard and Chateau Wright offerings.• Texoma. The newest Texas AVA spans 3,650 square miles north of Dallas-Fort Worth and hugs the Texas-Oklahoma border, including Lake Texoma, from which it gets its name. More than a dozen wineries are based there, with tourism and events driving a major part of the operation, similar to the wineries and tasting rooms in the Texas Hill Country AVA.Texas wine. Forty years ago, a snicker, maybe a guffaw. No one is laughing at the Lone Star State now.Last roundThe doctor told me my DNA was backward. Got to catch up with a Veteran who lives here at the lake, Zach Carpenter, and we soon became good friends. He took me out for a training session with his hunting dog "Bob". Zach has Bob trained as a birddog. I was amazed at just how dynamic they operated and wanted to know more. So a couple weeks later here we are.Zach talks us through his upbringing, his military service, and then he gets into dog selection. Zach is keen on the "German Short-hair Pointer" and talks about the training routine that he uses, ranging from Commands, Retrieval, Table Breaking, Field/Water Work, and Competitions. Zach has a way with dogs, he proved it here at my place with my pups. Zach spends a lot of time afield, so no surprise that he has seen Sasquatch, not once, but twice! Great conversation.Everyone stay safe and blessed out there. Subscribe to the show, share it and let me know what I can do to make it better.©HOV2022

The iconic Honda Trail 90, also called the CT90, grows up to become the CT125. What's old is new again. If you haven't noticed yet, this podcast is about nostalgia. You know, reliving the events, sights, smells and emotions of special memories connect to our first rides. Said another way…it's about allowing our memories to travel back in time and experiencing special moments all over again. As I was thinking about today's episode, one of my personal first ride nostalgia moments was when I was around 14 years old. In other episodes, I've talked about my 1964 VW convertible being my first ride. Great memories. But technically, my first ride was a beautiful red 1967 Honda S90. The first time I saw one it was parked on the street where I went to elementary school. I was hooked. It was the coolest thing and I decided I wanted one. Eventually, I did get one and was so excited. My first taste of freedom! I rode it every chance I could. Even riding it on my paper route to throw newspapers from.  During those years, my parents would go camping at Lake Texoma at least once a month. Of course, I got to take the S90 and ride around the campgrounds. Even though it was designed for the street, I sometimes rode it as if it were a dirt bike. So much fun. Another family went camping at the same time as mine and I became good friends with their son. His name was Mike. Since he also had a motorcycle, we wound up riding together and going all over the place. His motorcycle….a Honda Trail 90. Actually, the correct name was a CT200, which later, Honda called it a CT90 or trail 90. It's amazing how much punishment these bikes took and kept on running. We rode them on dirt roads, beaches, pine needle covered logging roads and more. Just like the old Timex commercial says: “it takes a lickin and keeps on tickin” After I became an adult and moved out on my own, my parents continued to go camping around different parts of Texas. Eventually, my dad bought a Trail 90 which he would ride around the campgrounds. Over the years, my parents got to the point where they were physically unable to go camping. My dad passed away and my mom eventually sold the RV. But, she kept the Trail 90. Guess what's in my garage now? You guessed it, the Honda Trail 90 my dad used to take camping. When researching information about my old motorcycle and the Trail 90, I discovered something old is new again. Honda introduced an updated version of the CT90. Except, it's a CT125. I'm going to talk about the history of the Honda trail bikes and Honda's new model. What I found out, though, really surprised me. So, let's get right into it now…

Morning Coffee with Will Price at the "Sniper Bar & Grill" this morning. Great weather this morning for an outdoor chat about life. Will was injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Iraq and still carries the painful reminder in his feet. So we talked about how he has developed his life around the care and maintenance of his feet and his mind. Meditation, Yoga, and Tia Chi are key to Will's improvement and carrying them over into the next day, week, months, and years. Always healing is the goal!! Topics discussed:  -New National Suicide Prevention Hotline number: The long wait for a faster, simpler contact number will be implemented July 16, 2020 - "988" will replace 1-(800) 273-8255 (TALK). We talked about the question of "why wait two years to implement something that has been needed for 15-20 years". The focus on removing the stigma of mental health is slowing taking root and the PREVENT program (Presidents Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End a National Tragedy of Suicide). With understanding we can do more help for those that need it, might be you and I one day! -Space Force in the news and on Netflix, funny series so far. I'd check it out. -"FATHER SOLDIER SON" is out on Netflix and is about an Army Ranger, Brian Eisch, as a single father he deployed and was injured in a rescue mission that left him with the struggles of a lower leg amputation, healing wounds inside himself and with his two young sons. We are going to watch this and report back with some thoughts from other Veterans.  -Cross Timbers Hiking Trail is located just off of Hwy 377 as you cross into TX from OK. Great trail that has camping, picnic areas, and wonderful sights to see along the way. The trail weaves its way along Lake Texoma for 14.2 miles, sometimes being right along water on cliffs or into the woods to cool off. Visit if you're in the area. -Veteran Visitors are ALWAYS welcome at the Lakeside Studios, just reach out and let's get you down here for an episode or just to sit back and relax for a while.  Once again, thank you for the care at which you take in these episodes, and thank you for spreading the word. Alexander Watson is an entrepreneur, adventurer, and lately, an author. With his wedded partner Dale Harris, Alexander rescued his family business, a furniture studio, built a portfolio of rental properties, and then sold it all to restore a vintage motor yacht and travel ‘The Rivah’. Watson’s book, River Queens – Saucy Boat, Stout Mates, Spotted Dog, America tells of their escape from the urban jungle and passage through the nation’s midsection. It is full of stories from the finding of the boat, to the characters they met along the way, to the challenges presented on the river. Their boat, Betty Jane, A forty-five-foot wooden motor yacht built in the height of the Korean War is hardly an extravagance; it is an obscenity. Promoted as part of Chris Craft’s "Freedom Fleet" for 1955, it had all the conveniences of a well-appointed home at twice the cost. She had fitted carpets, polished mahogany paneling, an en-suite for the owners, and quarters for the crew. The journey starts with an over-the-road transport from Lake Texoma, the impounded Red River on the Texas/Oklahoma border, to Applegate Cove Marina on the Arkansas River, one hundred miles south of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The journey ends at Cincinnati, Ohio on Labor Day Weekend 2009.  Alexander is primarily the deckhand. He is better able to shinny down docks and throw lines. He swabs the decks and shines the brass. He is also the painter, plumber, and carpenter. His upbringing in the world of fine furniture and interior design gives him intrinsic understanding of fine joinery and finishing. We discuss how Alexander got into boating, and specifically how he and Dale decided to take this journey. The book is full of colorful characters and vivid experiences from their time on the river and though you will get a sense of it from our conversation, we very specifically left a lot of the book in the book so that you can pick it up and give it a read. Enjoy!

For years David Elliot Penton stalked elementary schools and playgrounds looking for young girls from low-income neighborhoods to abduct, rape and murder. He thought of them as "throwaway kids"-hardly missed, and soon forgotten, except by those who loved them. He was every parent's worst nightmare. The bogeyman they warned their children about ... the fiend who lurked outside bedroom windows.Christi Meeks disappeared during a game of hide-and-seek outside her mother's Mesquite apartment complex in January 1985 and was found dead less than three months later in Lake Texoma.Christie Proctor's body was found in a south Plano field in April 1988, more than two years after the fourth-grader was last seen walking from her North Dallas apartment to a friend's house. And Roxann Reyes was snatched from an alley while playing outside her Garland apartment in November 1987.This story focuses on the work of a team of police detectives, starting with Garland Police Detective Gary Sweet, who picked up the cases of the three missing girls after they'd gone cold.In 1996, years after the murders, he found the girls' files and information on suspect David Elliot Penton. "For some reason, out of all the stuff that was in those two boxes, I pulled out a file and started reading about him," Sweet said.Penton was in jail in Ohio for killing 9-year-old Nydra Ross. What followed was a series of fateful twists — from reviewing old tips, to conducting new interviews and gathering information shared by Penton's cellmates. By 2003, Sweet and the team had enough to indict Penton. TRUE DETECTIVE-From The Detective's Perspective-Gary Sweet

Bro. Verbal Bean - Defense of the Unborn- I was told it was preached at a camp meeting in Oklahoma at Lake Texoma! It was said that nobody could eat after the message, but rather found a tree to go pray! I believe it was 1976, just a year prior to Elder Bean's death!
