As Helen Johannesen likes to say, “wine is for enjoying and wine is for everyone,” but it's also a luxury. Still, you can get natural  wines for $20 a bottle or less. The hard part is finding them.2. If you're trying to figure out whether a wine is natural or not, turn the bottle around and look at the importer on the back. There are certain importers who seek out small producers who are aligned with the natural wine movement. A couple of importers with such a reputation are Zev Rovine and Jenny & Francois.3. If possible, find a local brick-and-mortar wine shop. They're more likely to help you find a natural wine. Plus, wine shops often offer free or low-cost tastings, which can help you figure out what you like without spending a ton of money. There are online wine subscription services that have natural wines as well.4. If you're just dipping your toe into the natural wine world, start with what you like. If you love Sauvignon Blanc, try a natural bottle of the same variety.5. Last, have a good time! Don't get intimidated or think that you have to be completely pure about it. In moving to New York he found a home in Andrew Tarlow's Brooklyn group. Working at Reynard under Lee Campbell, then heading programs at both Marlow & Sons and Diner, Kirk fell in love with honesty and transparency of natural wine. He worked as Sommelier for all spaces in the Matter House group and in 2016 Kirk began his continuing work in Portland, Oregon partnering in harvest with Division Winemaking Company and Brianne Day. My guest today is Jeffrey Lee Campbell. Jeff is a guitarist, composer, producer and most recently, a published author! Jeffrey’s honest, engaging book, “Do Stand So Close”, recounts his year as Sting’s guitarist on the “Nothing Like the Sun” world tour. To quote the publisher’s summary: “Do Stand So Close” follows Jeffrey’s amazing odyssey-from relocating to NYC and miraculously landing the high-profile gig, to life on the road with one of the planet’s biggest rock stars, to his humbling crash-and-burn after the tour.” Or as Jeff would summarize his book: “Young knucklehead learns his way through life, making lots of mistakes, while given the opportunity of a lifetime.” Jeffrey reminds me that he first met my husband, Paul on a Nite Sprite gig and then on an Ed Palermo gig, before they shared the Broadway musical pits of Saturday Night Fever, Seussical and then the 14 year run of Mamma Mia! Jeff now plays guitar for Broadway’s School of Rock, grateful for his 19 year and counting run on Broadway. He talks about mystery and meaning in people and places that later reveal as significant milestones in his life. Jeff reflects on his journey of soul searching, and sobriety that coincided with connecting to his his soul mate, the love of his life, Patty Murray. Jeff admits that artists are sensitive people so tooting their own horn, is often incompatible to their personality.
