Don Beebe was the first player to be a part of 6 Super Bowl teams and is famous for chasing down Leon Lett. Deion Sanders and Don Beebe both had the combine record of 4.25 in the 40. Don shares the behind the scene story when he was at the combine. Insane! So many miracle stories in Don's story. Out of football for 3 years, one of the colleges that had recruited him out of high school called and asked if he'd come back and play. His grandfather was not a good man, but Don's dad succeeded as a dad even though he had an awful father. He changed the Legacy of the Beebe name. After he retired from football, he created The House of Speed and has trained over 200,000 athletes. He coached high school and won state championships and he is now the head coach at Aurora University. He was able to sign a 10 year contract and demanded some specific things to be included in his contract.   -Why do bad things happen to good people? Romans 8:28 -Why did Don run down Leon Lett in the SuperBowl? -What is the #1 attribute we need to be a great leader? -How do we know if we are actually a Man of God? -What's something you learned from legendary coach Marv Levy? -How does revenge affect you and what are the ripple effects? Some of my takeaways: "If it's about playing time, then we don't have a relationship." "What you are at home IS what you really are." "Discipline out of love"  "Character will be revealed in every game you play." "Things are Caught not Taught." "Sin will keep you from this book." "It's important that you know the playbook. If you don't know the playbook, you can't perform in life."   Check out Don's website HERE Order Don's new devotional In His Image HERE Join our FREE Facebook group of Journey Dads HERE Christmas Gift Idea: Let me know if you buy one of my wife's children's books. Former Bills, Panthers, & Packers WR Don Beebe joins me in this special episode of Next on the Tee. Don was a 3rd round pick in 1989 but the first pick the Buffalo Bills had that year. He was an integral part of their 4 Super Bowl appearances in the early 90s. After a good warm-up and prayer session before the start of Super Bowl 27, he was convinced that he'd make the game-winning TD catch against the Cowboys. Well, the game was a route in the other direction. The Cowboys won 52-17 but it was a second away from the Cowboys putting another touchdown on the board when Don ran down Leon Lett who was dancing his way toward the endzone after recovering a fumble. Don swiped the ball out of Lett's hand causing a touchback and giving the Bills the ball back. It was an innocuous play in a blowout game. But it showed Don hadn't given up and was going to hustle until the game was over. During pregame, he had asked God to help him honor and praise Him through a game-winning touchdown. Instead, He gave him a play that has resonated with millions in a much deeper way. Hear Don tell that story and the reaction he continues to receive from people all over the world 31 years later. Colossians 3:23 says "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not human masters." In Super Bowl 27, the Dallas Cowboys were crushing the Buffalo bills, and the game was almost over. The Bills quarterback fumbled the ball and a Dallas Cowboys defender, Leon Lett, picked up the ball and ran it almost 60 yards to the end zone. Buffalo Bills wide receiver Don Beebe sprinted and knocked the ball out of Leon Letts hands right at the goal line, which prevented a Dallas touchdown. Don had the right attitude in Christ and he knew that God had called him to maximize his ability and talent and he was working for the Lord and honoring him with his play. We too can work heartily for the Lord, no matter the situation.

Extremely fired up, Michael can't help share his excitement around this year's Cowboys team and how the meter is hot for this roster to go all the way this season, Championship or bust! Sharing his own memories from playing on Thanksgiving, Michael talks about the infamous Leon Lett moment, playing against Randy Moss and what the city of Dallas was like after the big Thursday game. Opening up about his love and respect for Jerry Jones and his close relationship with former coach, Jimmy Johnson, Michael goes in-depth on how it was just playing football in Dallas it became his way of life, sense of family and purpose. Ryan asks if it was always Dallas for him and Michael shares how he had a special connection to the team as a child from his late father who would watch the games growing up with him. One of 16 kids, Michael learned the importance of teamwork and sacrifice early in life and used it to help propel him to the next level in athletics. Explaining the lineage and meaning of new beginnings behind wearing #88 and how Drew Pearson was the first but Michael wanted to continue to make that the premiere jersey number on the Cowboys for decades to come which he has. Ryan jokes about Michael saying, “If you can't help me win, you can't be my friend,” as he talks about wanting to be surrounded by teammates on the Cowboys who had the same unwavering commitment in winning a Super Bowl As he did. If he found out a teammate didn't align with this same mission, he wasn't afraid to let it be known to the coaching staff or the player. On the road to three championships and a hall of fame career, Michael had to face greats such as Deion Sanders defensively and Randy Moss who was always in the shadows to be the next best at his position. Michael shares a few stories from the times competing against them and the respect he has for other receivers who may be more physically gifted but given the chance would trade careers with him if they had the chance, specifically citing Randy Moss. Michael has high hopes for this year's Cowboys team and talks about how they don't realize how talented they are sometimes which could be a weakness for them down the stretch. Attributing his success to three special women in his life, his mom, his mother-in-law and aunt, Michael says being able to experience the highs of life with them and travel the world has been the highlight of his life. Our special guest today was a wide receiver in the NFL for nine years – including six Super Bowl appearances and one championship – Beebe is widely known for his “never-say-die” grit displayed in Super Bowl XXVII when he denied Leon Lett an easy touchdown. After retiring from the NFL, Beebe founded House of Speed, in Aurora, which specializes in training athletes to perform better by enhancing speed and character. He also coached Aurora Christian High School to two state championships. Beebe grew up just down the road from Aurora University in Sugar Grove, Ill., graduating from Kaneland High School. He attended AU and played Spartan basketball for one season. While playing football at Chadron State College in western Nebraska, his speed caught the eye of NFL scouts. He was invited to NFL combine trials in Indianapolis in 1989 where he (and Deion Sanders) ran the 40-yard dash in a record-setting 4.25 seconds. Beebe was the Buffalo Bills' first pick in the draft. Beebe was the first NFL player to take the field in six Super Bowls -- four with the Buffalo Bills and two with the Green Bay Packers, one of which they won. He holds numerous records, including the Buffalo Bills record for most touchdowns in a game (four). Buffalo Bills coach Marv Levy said Beebe “showed what a fighting heart is all about. He gave everything he had all of the time.” After retiring from the NFL, Beebe founded House of Speed in Aurora with Dr. Jeff Schutt in 1998. House of Speed has trained 100,000 athletes of various levels and sports, including more than 40 professional athletes such as Dallas Cowboy quarterback Tony Romo and Michael Turner of the Atlanta Falcons. Beebe coached football at Aurora Christian High School from 2004 to 2013, leading the team to three state championship appearances and two championships. Don is currently the head football coach at Aurora University.

Jets have now won two games in a row after starting the year 0-13. Does Gase come back in 2021? That can't happen. Baker Mayfield you have to carry the team during a day like today. A ten win team can't lose to a 1-13 team. Down 20-3 before you finally wake up? Embarassing. Chiefs get the #1 seed but I was pissed watching Travis Kelce after a redzone INT by Mahomes not show any hustle. Tyreek Hill ran down the Falcon's LB and stripped the ball out. That's what I want to see. Remember Don Beebe in that SB vs the Cowboys when he knocked the ball out of Leon Lett's hands. Kelce you made be one of the greatest TE's ever in the history of NFL history but you lost a lot of respect from me on that play.Fitzmagic last night and Brian Flores what a season the Dolphins have had in 2020. Jon Gruden and the Raiders start 6-3 and now 1-5 last 6. Is he going to bring the Raiders a championship? I don't think so.

GLORIFY CHRIST WITH EFFORT One of the greatest plays I’ve ever seen in pro-football happened to be in a Super Bowl game. The Buffalo Bills versus the Dallas Cowboys. Of course we know that the Bills had lost like four Super Bowls in a row. And in one of those games it looked like, again, another loss. They were way behind with just a few minutes left in the game. Wide receiver Don Beebe for the Buffalo Bills was way down field when Jim Kelly, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills was sacked and the ball was picked up by a Dallas Cowboy defensive lineman named Leon Lett. He started to run to the end zone for yet another Dallas Cowboys score. It was no doubt that the Buffalo Bills were going to lose this game. But Don Beebe was like a streak of lightning, sprinting many yards to finally catch Leon Lett when it seemed like everybody else on his team had just kind of gone through the motions on that play. Beebe tackled Lett before he got to the end zone, forcing him to fumble. Well it had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. The Cowboys still beat the Bills. But Beebe got hundreds and hundreds of letters from people wanting to know why he was willing with just a couple of minutes left in the game to go so hard. And he said it was because his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It didn’t matter what the circumstances were, he was going to glorify Christ with his effort. Is that you? Is that me?

Today's episode hits on some timely news stories, including Trump's latest kerfuffle with the NFL. In the pre-show, we talk a little bit about the Graham-Cassidy Bill, which is hopefully defunct by the time you hear this.  But can Trump save it via Executive Order?  (No.) Then, we return for a lengthy "Andrews Were Wrong!" segment in which we issue a correction from Episode 107, explain the difference between Ronnie Lott and Leon Lett, and also tackle friend of the show Andrew Seidel's recent article regarding whether churches will likely receive FEMA relief in the wake of the Trinity Lutheran decision. In the main segment, Andrew looks at the Supreme Court's recent order in Tharpe v. Warden and explains the significance in light of our prior discussion of jury deliberations. Before you listen to "Yodel Mountain," you'll want to go back and listen to Episode 57 and Episode 58, in which we go into detail on Donald Trump's rocky relationship with the NFL.  Then, we answer whether Donald Trump violated federal law by threatening NFL players who refuse to stand for the national anthem & some other questions.    You'll find out which senators oppose "State-Sponsored Patriotism" and the answer WILL surprise you! Finally, we end with a new Thomas Takes the Bar Exam Question #43 about whether a "Letter of Intent" is binding in a business sale.  (Oooh, right in Andrew's professional wheelhouse!)  Remember that you can play along with #TTTBE by retweeting our episode Tweet along with your guess.  We'll release the answer on next Tuesday's episode along with our favorite entry! Recent Appearances After being bombarded by 10,000 Twitter trolls, the guys are going to lay low for a little bit. Show Notes & Links We discussed the first GOP effort to repeal the AHCA back in Episode 80, and you can read about the changes to that bill (largely, to the slush fund) in this Bloomberg article. This CNN report suggested that Trump would "do an Executive Order" when Graham-Cassidy fails. If you want to read the trial court's ruling on ineffective assistance of counsel in the Syed case, you can do so. We first discussed whether churches will receive FEMA funds for disaster relief in Episode 102; Andrew Seidel respectfully disagreed with that conclusion in a recent article; we continue to think he's too optimistic in light of the Trinity Lutheran decision. We discussed Pena-Rodriguez v. Colorado as a "landmark case" way back in Episode 56. You can read the Supreme Court's order staying execution in Tharpe v. Warden, as well as the District Court's opinion denying reopening of Tharpe's habeas petition. We're really proud of the episodes we did on the USFL v. NFL lawsuit back in Episode 57 and Episode 58, in which we go into detail as to exactly why Trump hates the NFL (and so much more)! The relevant statute at issue with Trump threatening the NFL is 18 U.S.C. § 227. That "LawNewz" article we referenced is here; read at your own risk! Finally, we definitely recommend reading the McCain-Flake report on "paid patriotism."
