I took on her challenges and tuned into her 'how to create a course' webinars, filmed in her spare room once her son was in bed and whilst wearing some very comical hats! I've been inspired by her journey and success and am SO chuffed that she took the time to speak to me.

My guest this week is Lucy Griffiths, a force of nature who rose to the top in the cut-throat world of video journalism, reporting in war zones& even ending up in jail for reporting in Myanmar. But after childbirth she developed severe incontinence & had to rethink her career, becoming an entrepreneur, online course officianado & author of Money While You Sleep.Lucy taught English in China and was there during the SARS outbreak, so she knew what was coming when Covid struck. Her business was already online by this time so she was able to keep it going.  In fact her book Money While You Sleep helps us all to navigate disasters by creating an online income stream. She herself was forced to do just that when her successful career was brought to an abrupt halt after she gave birth to her son.Always one for travel and adventure she had reported in the four quarters of the world and loved her job for its ability to shine a light on issues that otherwise might remain hidden, such as the refugee crisis or in war-torn Burmah. But after giving birth, Lucy suffered such severe incontinence she was unable to leave the house. Over time she received some relief from her symptoms but her career as she had known it was over. So she began to build a business online; something she could do around her young baby and her physical condition.Gradually she started helping other people to work in a more 'passive' way too. She had proved in her own life that anyone can build a business from their bedroom regardless of circumstance, age, location or skillset. And now she could share those tools and techniques with anyone who needed them. Her dream is to help refugees build a business and build a new life for themselves. Thanks so much Lucy, for your openness in talking about the silent burden of incontinence that so lives are hindered by, and for offering a way of making money while you sleep to bring freedom to anyone, no matter their life circumstances. Thanks also for showing us that we can all dream big and create financial freedom for ourselves through the power of serving others online. You can find out more about Lucy's work on https://lucygriffiths.com/ and follow her on Instagram @lucygriffithsdotcomJoin Lou on Linkedin, or sign up to her mailing list for her newsletter and a free podcast guesting mini-guide. Making money while you sleep aka passive income isn't just a dream, in fact, many people can use their skills and knowledge to provide education and services in automated ways, as Lucy Griffiths, online entrepreneur and author of Make Money While You Sleep explains. But Lucy didn't just decide to launch into the online world on a whim, and it was actually some pretty harrowing events and a traumatic birth that led her to a complete career change, from globe-trotting journalist to online course creator.  This is a really brilliant interview and shows the journey Lucy has taken to get to where she is- using her experiences to shape her next step and not letting health challenges stop her, but more cause a pivot in how she spreads her message. She also used a particular event she was told about as a foundation to want to do more good, which I find particularly inspiring. Do be warned though- this podcast is labelled as explicit for good reason and I would advise you to skip the first four minutes or so if you're triggered by acts of violence against women or if you're around young/sensitive people as an incident is described in graphic detail.

I am joined today by Lucy Griffiths to talk about how you can make money while you sleep. Lucy has just published her new book 'Make Money While You Sleep' and it's doing incredibly well on Amazon and Audible charts. There's a simple premise behind this book - turning your expertise into an online course and then learning the strategy to sell it again and again.  What You Will Learn In This Episode: - How important it is to be able to make money while you sleep, rest or recover - How mini-course can be the driver of your business, not just a safety net - Why you need to have a very strong funnel - How having an online course can get your family life back - Which platform is the right choice for you There are many ways you can build and grow an online business and sell your expertise through courses. But you've got to go deep with your idea - nail it, create a mini-course and then decide where you want to build your audience. I Heart My Life Show

When your life has been full of international events, conflict, and stories about war and devastation, how do you stop and settle into a life of motherhood? Lucy Griffiths was an international field journalist covering everything from the war in Iraq and conflict in Sudan to the life and style of the stars.  After she had her son she realized that living life constantly on the go was no longer an option, but she wasn’t ready to stop working completely. She obtained her Master’s while helping to start up a television station in Iraq and then moved into the world of coaching.  She’d always been interested in coaching and was adamant about investing in her own personal and professional development, and her co-workers needed her help… but her path wasn’t easy.  Listen in as she shares her story of adventure and intrigue and how that led her to build courses sharing her expertise.  You see, Lucy started her coaching business by helping moms work through their new reality of motherhood and all that it means to be a caretaker. After working with several moms she realized that she didn’t feel fulfilled or aligned with that niche, so she pivoted into video editing and production. She then realized that people kept asking her questions about creating better video and being comfortable on camera, so she started to build courses. That arm of her business now allows her the freedom to work around her son’s schedule.  Lucy’s story is truly amazing and it highlights the fact that your business is not meant to be perfect right out of the gate. You have to be prepared to make changes when necessary so that you continue to grow both personally and professionally. Never be afraid to take action and if you feel out of alignment, explore that feeling and find out what you can do differently. In this Episode:  [00:58] Welcome Lucy Griffiths to the show and hear her amazing story of success. [03:11] After she had her son she knew she could no longer be a field journalist, so she started an Airbnb, but was bored![04:47] What inspired Lucy to start her coaching business? [07:52] Hear more about her first foray into coaching. [09:04] When did she move back to the UK? [10:36] Why did she start an Airbnb rather than move fully into coaching? [12:37] Listen as Lucy shares the reason behind investing in her coaching business. [14:18] What did the process of finding clarity and alignment in her business look like? [17:28] You have to be prepared to pivot and make changes in your business to see growth.[19:27] What was Lucy’s next step after realizing that her first pivot wasn’t working? [21:31] Does she still do 1:1 coaching? [24:15] How did she move through the frustration of finding her place in the entrepreneurial world? [30:19] What’s next for Lucy? [31:23] Lucy shares the mindset shifts that have allowed her to reach this place.[32:56] Hear one way you can make a life better than your dreams.    Links & Resources:  Subscribe to the Podcast:  I Heart My Life Show on Apple PodcastsI Heart My Life Show on Spotify Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway by Susan Jeffers Martin Seligman Connect with Lucy:  Lucy’s Website Lucy on FacebookLucy on Pinterest Lucy on Instagram Lucy on YouTube Connect with Emily:  I Heart My Life WebsiteI Heart My Life on InstagramI Heart My Life on FacebookI Heart My Life on LinkedIn Email: info@iheartmylife.com Book a Call   Quotes:  “I know that sometimes people are hesitant to try something new or just to test certain things or certain avenues that they may feel called to go down. “What design thinking does - is it creates space for failure.” Lucy Griffiths is an award-winning educator, editor, marketer, designer, and writer. She is co-founder of sortyourfuture.com, founder of design-led agency We Are Lucky, and author of the Island Friends children's book series. Her career has spanned roles within academia, entrepreneurship and teaching - all centre around the philosophy of design as a tool for changing the way people learn and behave. She is passionate about encouraging enterprise and enhancing the life chances of young people through education that inspires and motivates them to achieve their own definition of success. Lucy's 2016 TED talk, asked if there was a conceivable way to address some of the most complex and difficult problems in the education system when knowledge is cheap and young people accept that the future is completely unknowable. In her talk, she demonstrates how, by bringing designers into the equation, and connecting them with educators and young people, we can tackle the problems both teachers and learners face, and develop tools and techniques that support them to transform their own learning. As a Trustee of the Royal Society of Arts, Lucy is also helping to think about policy and research at a national level - and the interplay between education, business and design. Richard and Lucy spoke in January 2019, about the role and principles of design-thinking in education and what we need to think about when we tackle future challenges. --- Useful links: Sort Your Future http://sortyourfuture.com – online tool for young people to help make decisions about their future We Are Lucky design agency http://wearelucky.org 'Island Friends' book series http://wildlifefriends.club (about a community of birds off the Pembrokeshire coast) Lucy Griffiths at TEDxSwansea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXvby4h7oGg The Donaldson Review in Wales, 2015 https://gweddill.gov.wales/docs/dcells/publications/150225-successful-futures-en.pdf Royal Society of Arts https://www.thersa.org/ --- Did you agree? Hey Everybody it's Nico and Welcome to Across the Airwaves News with Nico! The podcast is currently on hiatus, but we will continue to bring you all the TV and Entertainment News that comes out this summer in our lead up to our Comic Con episode in late July/Early August. So let’s get started.   On this week’s episode we discuss: The first image of Doctor Who Premiere Episode “Deep Breath”; the leaking of Doctor Who Series 8 Scripts Online and BBC asking Fans not to spoil Season 8 for those of us that have not seen them; The Emmy Nominations came out this week and I lament about Tatiana Maslany’s being snubbed by the Academy; but on a good note, Orphan Black was renewed for Season 3; and Community is returning to SDCC on the heels of Yahoo resurrecting the series; JK Rowling released a new Harry Potter short story; True Detective is eyeing Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch for Season 2 leads; Lucy Griffiths is leaving Constantine early in the series’ run and is being replaced by as of yet uncast Zed; The Flash has cast Robbie Amel as one half of Firestorm; Sharknado is coming out as a Video Game and the trailer for Sharknado 2 is available in the ACC feed; Elizabeth Mitchell Joins Once Upon A Time Cast; Arrow targets Brandon Routh to play a major DC Comics superhero and it’s The Atom; Hulu acquires the entire South Park library of episodes; and finally Firefly Online will present its first public demo at SDCC 2014.  So join us as we discuss all of this on this week’s News with Nico!!!
