In this episode of the Fins Family Podcast, we recap the Miami Dolphins gut-wrenching 15-13 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in week 2 of the 2022 NFL preseason. We'll take a look at how Tua Tagovailoa faired in his first action of the year, commiserate over the running game for a second straight week, and fall in love with Erik Ezukanma. All 3 QBs got in the gameTua looks good, shows strong command and leadership; did a good job buying time and finding the open receiverBridgewater looked like Teddy Bridgewater, some beautiful throws overshadowed by excessive backward running and overthrown ballsSkylar Thompson stole the show again making a case for himself as the backupThe Receiving CoreMike Gesicki was having a rough go and stayed in for a large portion of the game because of it.Erik Ezukanma solidifies a roster spot, and likely the 4th WR spot to boot with a strong 6 catches for 114 yards that only tells a small part of the story.Despite being heavily targeted and involved, Braylon Sanders failed to make a positive impression.Trent Sherfield pulled in his lone target for 16 yards on a beautiful route and throw from Tua. Since he's playing with the 1's I'd assume he's got a spot.Lynn Bowden Jr played heavily on special teams but only had 1 target on offense.River Cracraft ran some nice routes and did a great job getting open to bail out his QB, just not sure he's shown enough.Mohamed Sanu and Preston Williams didn't move the needle at all for themselves. The Run Game Struggles Again18 carries for 37 yards from 7 ball carriers.Salvon Ahmed leads the night with 5 for 20.Sony Michel fails to convert on 2nd and 1 and 3rd and 1, finishing with 2 carries for 0 yards.Chase Edmonds runs 3 times for 3 yards.Myles Gaskin goes 4 for 12 with a fumble at the end of the half.ZaQuandre White with a beautiful pass from Skylar Thompson, makes a man miss, and scores.Cornerback WoesNoah Igbinoghene continued to struggleNik Needham and Keion Crossen both went down with seemingly minor injuries but both were lost for the game; Needham was having a good game before the injury.Mackensie Alexander got smoked on a slant on one of his first plays in the game but redeemed himself on a nice pass breakup a few plays later.Kader Kohou took advantage of his opportunity, performing very well in coverage.Elijah Campbell had a meh night after a strong showing last week.Linebacker BattleStarters Zach Sieler, Jaelan Phillips, and Andrew Van Ginkel all stood out in their minimal play time.Duke Riley is a beast.Channing Tindall was all over the place, as the Madden sim told us he'd be, recording 6 tackles on the night and being around the ball constantly.Porter Gustin lands another sack and a TFL, making a strong case to put him on the 53-man.Cameron Goode was once again… good. 5 tackles and a tackle for a loss.Ben Stille showed up again too, grabbing a sack and a TFL for another strong showing.Did Darius Hodge play?  Jason Sanders misses the game-winning FG (46 yards)

Your Minnesota Vikings stay on the road, this time matching up with the Detroit Lions in their color rush silver uniforms. The Vikes are looking to get back to .500 once again and keep their hopes to slide into the playoffs alive. Will they? Nope. The Lions are looking to get their first win. Will they? Yes, they did. The beloved Purple are short some very key players, especially on defense. Eric Kendricks is out, along with Camryn Bynum who backs up the safety spot and comes in for dime situations. There is also Patrick Peterson who's been on Covid IR. He could possibly, theoretically return with a second negative test. Will he? Nope. Then if the questionable of Anthony Barr and Mackensie Alexander don't actually play, stopping even the Lions could be tough. Barr was out, but Mac was in. Over on the offensive side, the team will miss RB Dalvin Cook and LT Christian Darrisaw. Obviously Alexander Mattison will take over as the primary runner, and hopefully Kene Nwangwu will be spelling him. The only problem there is that Kene is questionable with an illness. He played. Are you looking forward to seeing what Nwangwu can do from the backfield? We at Climbing The Pocket sure are. With Darrisaw out, the Vikings are up to there shenanigans again, shuffling the O-line. They moved Oli Udoh from RG to LT, Garrett Bradbury will resume his starting role at center, and Mason Cole will slid to RG. How will that go? Meh. It could go extremely well or horrifically bad. What was your guess? We will all find out with you going live in the final two minutes of the game with The Final Score. 1) Highlights 2) Lowlights 3) Speed round and your questions 4) What's ahead The Final Score [the name for CTP's Postgame show] is ready for the season. There are 4 new regulars and the occasional guest. The focus will be on you the fan, and how you felt the team did. Hopefully racking up the wins in the regular season. The Minnesota Vikings have now lost 2 games in a row by a total of 4 points. People say it was because of just two plays. Do you believe that? If you win on a lot more plays, these two aren't necessary. It is however for health of the Vikings' season that they grab victory against the Seattle Seahawks. This has been a team that has beaten Mike Zimmer's Vikings every time they have played. Will this game be any different? This will be the first time the Seahawks have taken on the Vikings at US Bank Stadium. The stadium, packed full of fans chanting Odin, and SKOL, will make a difference. They should have the Seahawks offensive linemen false starting. The Vikings defense which has yet to jell in two games, can now feed off the fans making noise, cheering, and down right amped up energy that flows within that glorious bowl and ETFE roof. Russell Wilson is getting older, but may be wiser and can still hurt you. He has two wide receivers in DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett that the purple secondary will have to shut down. A hard task when Bashaud Breeland hasn't lived up to expectations. Will we see Cameron Dantzler eventually take over? The “Meaty Boys” on the defensive line should have a better day, but Wilson can still run. Can they contain him? Then can the Vikes' offense continue to cook? Kirk Cousins has been playing well and a legitimate WR3 has been found in KJ Osborn. Can the running game get going, and set up more play-action? Dalvin Cook is recovering from an ankle injury and hasn't practiced all week. We might see more of Alexander Mattison as a result. The big question though is can the Vikings get the win and beat the Seahawks? On list topics: 1) Chris Carson - who has averaged 4.6 yards per carry against us.  2) Russell Wilson and his career stats against the Vikings. 3) Conerbacks D.J. Reed and Tre Flowers. 4) What kind of performance will Justin Jefferson, Adam Thielen and KJ ‘Ozzy' Osborn need to have a day against those guys?  5) Vikings corners Bashaud Breeland, Patrick Peterson, and Mackensie Alexander expectations. If they don't play better Sunday it's going to be another frustrating day for us Viking fans because someone needs to cover DJ Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Introduction: Host Michael Rand takes a look at the Vikings' decision to bring back defensive end Everson Griffen from a number of angles -- a couple of them unsurprising and one of them fairly surprising. He's the fourth former member of the defense to return in 2021, joining Mackensie Alexander, Sheldon Richardson and Stephen Weatherly. He's part of an overall defensive upgrade in the offseason that has seen the Vikings dole out more than 200 times as much guaranteed money to that side of the ball than to outside free agents on offense. And Griffen has the potential to be a disruption in the locker room after social media comments critical of Kirk Cousins. 8:00: Columnist Chip Scoggins joins the show to talk about his recent story on the big business of charitable gaming and how it funds a lot of youth sports initiatives in Minnesota. Youth sports organizations in the state generated more than $100 million in net receipts -- no, that's not a misprint -- in 2020, and the number could go up this year. Scoggins discusses how we got to this point, where the money is doing and what the potential problems are with all of this. 28:00: Is there finally good news for people trying to watch the Twins, Wild, Wolves and other teams on Bally Sports North? That's the message from a recent report. Also, a brief Kirill Kaprizov update and an appreciation of the St. Paul Saints.

In this episode Tyler breaks down the top 5 corner back prospects for the draft and the likelihood that the Vikings would take one is high at #14 could be possible. After the legal issues of Jeff Gladney surfaced, suddenly the signing Patrick Peterson and Mackensie Alexander for a one year rental, Mike Hughes’ injury history and the fact that the only CB on the roster for 2022 may only be Cameron Dantzler, throw in Mike Zimmer’s affinity for corners and this selection may indeed happen. Cornerbacks This cornerback class was a lot of fun. From top to bottom, this class is loaded in the top 100 with a lot of varying play styles. I believe there are upwards of 7 guys who could go in the first round with a lot of talent available into day 3. Corners are at a premium in the league now more than ever and I wouldn’t be shocked to see a massive run go early day 3. Corners are a fun position to break down. Some are excellent in press coverage and others only playing off coverage or zone. The biggest thing I look for when watching them is football IQ. How are their read and reaction skills? Do they have the athleticism to match their instincts and keep up with the receiver? How are their ball skills? When they get beat, how do they recover? A lot of nuances that get differentiate the different types of corners but they all still need to cover the receivers just the same. Dakota Dozier is re-signed, Mason Cole traded for, the DB room grows with Patrick Peterson, Mackensie Alexander and Xavier Woods. What needs for the Vikes remain? What needs shored up? What rumors are we hearing? How do you feel? We talked O-line and I went off on the ineptitude of this organization to fix the issue. This morning, I see this simple printed piece that shows where the QB pressures come from. Per PFF, here’s the distribution of where pressure on Cousins came from last year (lower is better): LT: 14.0% (2nd lowest) LG: 26.1% (2nd highest) C: 16.5% (5th highest) RG: 25.0% (2nd highest) RT: 14.8% (5th lowest) QB: 15.3% (10th highest) It is simple to see and simple to know where to fix… So the Vikings re-sign Dakota Dozier. “Hey Spielman! Vikings vs the Offseason… Good morning Horners! The Good Morning Gjallarhorn gang is back after the week off to mourn the 2019 Vikings season. Ted, Drew and Dave discuss the holes to fill in the 2020 version of your Minnesota Vikings, and there are a lot. We also discussed the salary cap situation, and coaches that have left the team.  From key players on defense like Anthony Harris, starters like Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander. backups like Eric Wilson and Stephen Weatherly are all due to be free agents. The offense fairs only a little better with CJ Ham being the only “starter” as free agent but swing tackle Rashod Hill and other backups are at the end of their contracts too. Then there is the specialists, Dan Bailey and Britton Colquitt, both needing new contracts or walking to other teams. All of this with the Vikings already approximately $10 million over the cap. Huge decisions to free up money are on the horizon. How would you go about it? Which veterans get cut to make space?  Drew asks us how would we sell the Vikings 2020 to fans and investors. What do we have to look forward to? Mike Zimmer has a good winning percentage, the offense got better, and of course there’s the traditions. Either way, this offseason will be a huge challenge and key to organization staying on or near the top, or failing and heading to a rebuild and new faces.  Like, subscribe, and rate us on your favorite podcast aggregator. It's Week 7 and our Minnesota Vikings are preparing for their final divisional road game. They head to Detroit to try to win their first divisional game after losing in Green Bay and Chicago. A tough one but thankfully, they're heating up. Danielle Hunter, Everson Griffen, Eric Kendricks, Anthony Barr, Mackensie Alexander and Anthony Harris are ALL making plays for a Vikings defense that's starting to consistently display and elite form. The kicking game with Dan Bailey and the rest of the Special Teams issues looks solve. Crossing our fingers here. Kirk Cousins looks great, taking his play to a new level. That doesn't mean Kirk can do it all, but the Vikings can go far if he keeps it up with all the versatility at his fingertips. Gary Kubiak and Kevin Stefanski have all the weapons clicking. They can use Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Dalvin Cook, Alex Mattison, Kyle Rudolph and Irv Smith Jr. with confidence. So what makes the most sense for Detroit? This is a Dalvin Cook game. Maybe Irv Smith Jr. can break out too. Quick injury updates: Riley Reiff and Ben Gedeon should be monitored this week. Josh Kline will hopefully be back for Week 7 after missing the game against Philadelphia. Other Good Games: Saints at Bears Ravens at Seahawks Eagles at Cowboys But the main event is Minnesota at Detroit. Need the corner backs to show up for this one! Skol Vikes. There's five count 'em FIVE big games in the NFL this weekend, and all four NFC North teams will be going at it. The Green Bay Packers play the Philadelphia Eagles in a game we hope ends in a tie. The Dallas Cowboys play the New Orleans Saints so we can cry about Teddy Bridgewater on Sunday Night. The Detroit Lions host the Kansas City Chiefs and reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes. The New England Patriots travel to upstate New York to Play the 3-0 Buffalo Bills. Our Minnesota Vikings play the Chicago Bears in a huge divisional clash. This week presents a huge opportunity for our Vikes to move up in the NFC standings. And they're healthy for it, after getting back Pat Elflein and Mike Hughes Week 3. Anthony Barr and Mackensie Alexander could be back too. Josh Kline was the only Viking to miss Wednesday practice due his concussion. Chad Beebe got hurt, but the Vikings brought back Marcus Sherels or Laquon Treadwell to replace him. Maybe Jordan Matthews would have been better? On offense, Irv Smith Jr, Kirk Cousins and Brian O'Neill are all streaking. We've gotta love how O'Neill is developing, even though he's got a tough match-up coming up against Khalil Mack. We're not sure yet about Garrett Bradbury, and we're hoping Akiem Hicks doesn't play. On defense, the more Sack Daddy the better. Throw in Danielle Hunter too. They've got to lead the way to victory against Charles Leno. And you know what? Can we please get some more Eric Wilson? Let him chase down Tarik Cohen and David Montgomery. Minnesota has a huge opportunity to strike back in the NFC North. 3-1 or 2-2 will look very different early on. All they need is their best players to STEP UP. Learn more about your ad choices. Our Minnesota Vikings played a great game against Atlanta in Week 1. But we didn't see everything we needed to for full buy-in. Week 2 could change all that. They just need to win against Green Bay.  Here's how the injury report looks: Stefon Diggs is back in full health, but Anthony may have a knee issue. Mackensie Alexander and Pat Elflein both missed Wednesday's practice. They should be monitored this week. Mike Hughes was limited, which is encouraging. It's good to have Brett Jones back and I see early optimism for Irv Smith Jr. Key players in Week 2: - Dalvin Cook showed all the promise in Week 1, and he'll need to factor into the passing game too, with Blake Martinez covering him. - Kyle Rudolph didn't do much against Atlanta. Can he win, going against the strong Adrian Amos? - Anthony Harris flashed again and brings a new element to the Minnesota defense. We can focus on how he plays, battling Green Bay's Jimmy Graham. - Trae Waynes quietly had a bad coverage game at US Bank Stadium. Let's hope Marques Valdez-Scantling isn't a problem. After covering the offense last week, Flipmazzi turns his attention to the defense: The craziness of Antonio Brown and the second episode of Hard Knocks Why is Kaare Vedvik here? We should be sick of all the regression talk circling Mike Zimmer's defense. Youth is always where the Zim Reapers have found their edge. Anthony Barr, Xavier Rhodes, Danielle Hunter and Trae Waynes are great examples. Anthony Harris arrived last year after glimpses of solid play in his four year career. Stephen Weatherly gave Minnesota a needed lift in Everson Griffen's absence. Eric Wilson played in a bunch of games last year and the dropoff between him and Eric Kendricks is shrinking. Mackensie Alexander, a lot of people gave up on him, but now he solidifies the cornerback group. Zimmer's staff develops these guys again and again and again. And if you want to bet against the unproven youth in 2019, have fun! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Good morning Horners! The possibility of the Minnesota Vikings throwing a 50 burger against the Detroit Lions this Sunday may seem ridiculous, but that is exactly what Dave is calling for. The old men, Ted Glover, Drew Bunting, and Dave Stefano discussed the possibility in this episode of GMG. Ted rejoins us after taking time out for a little champagne tasting to discuss the beautiful victory over the Miami Dolphins last week. The awesome defensive play there resulted in 9 sacks and shutting down the Fins after a giveaway touchdown and a fluky explosive run. Comments were made on the differences seen in playcalling by Kevin Stefanski versus John DeFilippo and how the offense was more productive than it had been in a while. There was still the angst over Kirk Cousins and his seemingly one or two bad plays a game that results in points for the other team. If the Vikings are getting hot this time of the season, not only on the defense but on the offense, if those mistakes are eliminated going into the playoffs, the possibilities can actually be super. Consistency in the maximizing of assets in playcalling will have any opponent not wanting to play the Vikings. The depth on the defense has shown it’s worth so far this season with outstanding play by not only Anthony Harris but with Mackensie Alexander really starting to step up his game, along with Holton Hill proving to be the best undrafted rookie free agent signing probably since Adam Thielen. Drew runs Dave and Ted through another round of Way or No Way. There are some interesting questions about the dynamic duo of Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen, Kyle Rudolph’s performance, and another that leads to that 50 burger prediction. From our lips to Odin’s ears let’s all hope it is so! How would you have answered those questions? Please post below. We are interested to hear what you think. Can also be cap causalties. This team has alot of free agents leaving as well Everson Griffen, Trae Waynes, Anthony Harris, Rashod Hill,  Andrew Sendejo, Mackensie Alexander, Dan Bailey and Britton Colquitt Walter’s Browns get back Baker, Garrett, Ward, Bitonio, Odell, Jarvis, Tretter and had about $52,160,015 in free cap before releasing TJ Carrie, Eric Kush and Demtrius Harris. They can still clear more if they release Christian Kirksey and Chris Hubbard. Acouple of guys potentially leaving in free agency include Joe Schobert, Damarious Randall and rishard Higgins. While alot of fans want Schobert resigned- it sounds like the team might go somewhere else to fix their linebacking corps. There has been rumors of higgins back at the right price. Some potential targets- Tre Boston, Bryan Bulaga, Corey littleton, Nick kwoatowski and While going forward I wouldve loved for them to sign Resign Schobert- even at the expense of cutting Kirksey - Scho is the QB of the Defense and has been referred to such by 2 DCs. It sounds like his positional value though might get him a new home in the long run. This team needs to Fix the offensive line- dedicate multiple resources/picks. Cut Hubbard. Sign Bryan Bulaga. Trade for Trent Williams. Browns made a calculated risk in trading away Zietler for Vernon- one that hasn’t panned out as well as they’d hoped. Browns now have good front 4. Jarvis has begun to produce really well and OBJ will have a second ywar in system and time to build chemistry with mayfield Why obj didn’t pop like he did on giants- Obj broke onto the scene rookie year (prove himself) We’ve seen WRs do much better year 2 than yr 1 in a system. Browns should look into a vet qb coach. Baker has shown some regression in mechanics/pocket presence. (Also) Lindley has gotten into arg with this players (jarvis in steelers game)
