The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's 2-2 week that featured a missed opportunity against a ranked UC Irvine team in the midweek and an outstanding come-from-behind win to take a road series win at Indiana behind another big performance from Ethan Hedges. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action, looking at the positives and negatives, but more importantly, they get an opportunity to don some safety gear and hard hats to head over to the new Dedeaux Field. The podcasters get to see the progression of how construction is going and get a lay of the land of where everything will be when everything is completed before next season begins. USC director of player development Sergio Brown, who showed the podcast duo around the grounds, joins the show to talk about the latest development and progression of both the stadium and the Trojan players. Brown discusses the unique elements the new Dedeaux Field will have and how valuable it has been for the team to be able to use the field surface for practice while the stadium is essentially being built around them starting about a month ago. The interview with Brown concludes with some discussion about the Trojans' series win over Indiana where USC rallied from down 12-3 to win the series finale with 10 unanswered runs capped by a Brayden Dowd go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning. After a break, Shotgun and Kasey take a look at where the Trojans stand after getting another conference series win to get back to .500 in Big Ten play. The podcast then previews USC's upcoming week of action, beginning with a midweek matchup against a 9-19 San Diego State before a weekend series with Ohio State (8-16) Please review, rate and subscribe to the Peristyle Podcast on Apple Podcasts! Myrtle Simmons-Brown was not just a loving mother, but a leader in her community. Myrtle had just turned 73 and was living in Maywood, Illinois, with her oldest son, Sergio Brown. Sergio is known for his 7 successful seasons playing in the NFL, and for reasons we don't know, he had moved in with his mom and didn't have much to his name. And on September 14th and 15th 2023, when neither responded to loved ones, people grew concerned. So, on September 16th, a loved one went to their house to check up on them but found nothing - no sign of forced entry nor of Myrtle and Sergio. It wasn't until family members reported them missing to police that neighbors got involved in the search. And it was only then, late on the 16th, that Myrtle's naked body was found wrapped in plastic in a creek bed 150 feet from her own back door. After days of looking for Sergio, he was located in Mexico where he had made several concerning posts on Instagram. He was eventually extradited back to Maywood, where he is now facing a 1st-degree murder charge and a concealment of a dead body charge. Myrtle Brown returns from a group trip to Aruba, celebrates her 73rd birthday, then goes missing. Family members get alarmed after not being able to contact the mom of 2. Then it's discovered son Sergio Brown, a former NFL player, is also missing. The mother and son were last seen together by a neighbor. Then Sergio Brown is seen on Ring doorbell camera footage taking out the trash and lighting a bonfire. Items are missing from the Brown home, including an iPad, credit cards, a debit card, and Myrtle Brown's phone. Myrtle Brown's body is found alongside a creek near the home, approximately 100 to 150 feet away from the back door. Her body is wrapped in a sheet. The medical examiner ruled Myrtle's death a homicide, citing multiple assault-related injuries..... blunt force trauma. Sergio Brown begins to post on Instagram posts, but the posts are strange. In one post Sergio said that reports of his mother's death were "fake news" claiming she was on vacation. He also claimed he was kidnapped by the FBI. Sergio Brown is arrested for his mother's death and extradited. In his possession are his mother's iPad and credit cards. Former NFL player Sergio Brown is now in custody as authorities investigate the tragic death of his mother, Myrtle Brown, whose lifeless body was discovered last month near her suburban Chicago residence. A law enforcement source disclosed that Sergio, who had traveled to Mexico, was deported on Tuesday by US law enforcement officers near San Diego based on an arrest warrant issued in Illinois. Mexican law enforcement had been aware of Sergio Brown's whereabouts since at least September 19, and he was deported after Illinois authorities secured an arrest warrant related to his mother's death. Police in San Diego are working to transfer Brown from Southern California to the Chicago area for further investigation. The Maywood Police Department revealed that 73-year-old Myrtle Brown's body was found near a creek behind her Maywood home on September 16. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office determined that her death resulted from injuries related to an assault, classifying it as a homicide. Simultaneously, Sergio Brown's brother, Nick Brown, took to social media seeking help in locating his missing brother. In an Instagram post, Nick expressed love for Sergio and pleaded for his safe return, emphasizing the family's unity during this challenging time. In light of recent developments, Myrtle Brown's family, represented by attorney Christian Conway, issued a statement urging authorities, particularly the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, to expedite the investigation, citing sufficient evidence for an arrest. Expressing concern for Sergio's well-being, the family stated they had not been in touch with him since his disappearance and called for his immediate and safe return to the United States. Despite the family tragedy and ongoing police investigation, Sergio was spotted living it up in Mexico at a Tulum beach club, dancing shirtless with scantily clad women. In one social media video, Brown said he thought his mom had gone on vacation. In the clip where he tagged ESPN, Brown says: 'Fake news. It has to be the FBI. They came into my house...unwarranted. 'They kidnapped me twice from home, the Maywood Police Department. It had to be the FBI or the Maywood Police. I thought my momma was on vacation.' He continued, 'That's f***ing fake news. Get the f*** out my god damn face. FBI had to do it, they got the power to do some s**t . What the f**k is going on, that is fake news. Don't come f***ing with me.' He had been living with his mother at the time of her death and was last seen with his mom on August 25 as they left their home for a family reunion in Mississippi, but they never made it. Sergio Brown, 35, a former defensive back for Notre Dame and a player for multiple NFL teams, played seven seasons in the league. San Diego Central Jail records show Brown was booked into the jail and is being held without bail as a fugitive from justice. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? In this edition of the Dedeaux Download podcast, part of the Peristyle Podcast family of shows, Shotgun Spratling and Jack Smith break down USC baseball's huge series sweep over Arizona State and the dynamic pitching effort from the Trojans to shut down a potent Sun Devils' offense. But before the guys discuss the Trojans moving up to fourth place with a big Pac-12 series sweep, a special guest joins the podcast. USC director of player development Sergio Brown comes on the Dedeaux Download to talk about how the Trojans have been able to come together to produce a 30+ win season for just the second time since 2005. Brown talks about his transition from an on-field assistant with several Big West schools, Arizona and San Diego State to becoming the Trojans' director of player development and what exactly that has entailed for him. He also discusses the role analytics play in his job and for the Trojans' players. After a great conversation with Brown, Shotgun and Jack break down all the action from a 4-0 week and look at where the 31-20-1 Trojans stand in the Pac-12, sitting in fourth place heading into the final regular-season weekends remaining. They also look at USC's national RPI and what the Trojans chances of making the NCAA tournament are looking like. Shotgun and Jack also discuss the upcoming week with the Trojans taking on Loyola Marymount across town on Tuesday before heading to Arizona to close out the regular season. Shotgun Spratling talks with new USC baseball head coach Andy Stankiewicz and college baseball national analyst Mike Rooney about the Trojans' hire of Stankiewicz and his staff of Travis Jewett, Seth Etherton, Andy Jenkins and Sergio Brown. Stankiewicz discusses what it means to be named the leader of college baseball most historic program as a Southern California native that grew up watching Rod Dedeaux's teams and playing for Mike Gillespie in the Alaskan Summer League. Stankiewicz talks about what it will take to turn around the USC program despite some of the challenges the job features. Later, Rooney breaks down why he thinks Stankiewicz was a home run hire for the Trojans. But he also warns that it is going to be a multi-year rebuild to get USC on the path to success. Guest: Associate Head Coach and recruiting coordinator, Sergio Brown. Sergio joined the Titans in July 2019 after coaching at the University of Arizona for four years. Coach Brown is currently in his third go around with Titan Baseball having served on the staff in 2001-03 and 2007-10. He also was a member of the 1995 Titan Baseball team that won the National Championship, the third of the four national championships for Cal State Fullerton. As the recruiting coordinator at Fullerton in 2009, Coach Brown reeled in the nation's fifth-best recruiting class. In 2010, his group was ranked eighth and in 2008 it was tabbed 14th nationally. Some notable names from those recruiting classes Coach Brown was able to convince to come to Cal State Fullerton include current Major Leaguers Matt Chapman, JD Davis and Michael Lorenzen. Before returning to Fullerton's campus last summer, Brown spent four seasons in Tucson coaching under Jay Johnson at the University of Arizona. Brown's second recruiting class at U of A in 2016 was ranked No. 4 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball. Brown's 2018 recruiting class was ranked No. 3 in the country by Collegiate Baseball. The 2020 Arizona Wildcats, stacked with four years worth of recruits that Brown brought to Tucson, had a 10 - 5 record before the COVID-19 pandemic brought the college baseball season to a halt. Based on his recruiting success at Arizona and at Fullerton, it is no wonder why Titan Baseball fans were beyond excited with the announcement he will return to campus as recruiting coordinator and Associate Head Coach. In this conversation with Sergio Brown, we discuss the incoming freshman class of eight high school seniors that have signed national letters of intent. Coach Brown shares his path through youth baseball and eventually transferring to Fullerton, cutting his teeth in coaching under Scott Pickler at Cypress College and what he learned from other notable coaches in playing under Augie Garrido and coaching for Dave Serrano and Jay Johnson. Make sure to stay through the end to hear Coach Brown give a preview of what to expect out of his first recruiting class now that he is back at Cal State Fullerton.▶️ Make sure to visit our website: https://www.calstateomaha.com/▶️ Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/CalStateOmaha▶️ Follow Sergio Brown on Twitter: https://twitter.com/CSFCoachBrown▶️ Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/calstateomaha/▶️ Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/calstateomaha/▶️ Suggest a guest: CalStateOmaha@Gmail.com

Sergio Brown played high school basketball with Derrick Rose, was coached by Bill Belichick in the NFL, has two degrees, and has worked at Google. Despite barely playing football in high school, Sergio learned the ins and outs of the game at Norte Dame and ultimately joined the Patriots as an undrafted free agent. We discuss his 8 year career in the NFL, the glamor of game day, the physical toll on his body and the transitory life bouncing from team to team. And on current NFL issues, he shares his thoughts on kneeling during the anthem and if he'd let his future son play because of concussions. But an NFL career can only last so long, imagine the loss of identity when you go from being an NFL player to a former NFL player. So with his body pretty much intact, he started his next act, at Google. + SHOW NOTES: http://rad.family/sergio-brown + JOIN THE RAD COMMUNITY: http://rad.family/subscribe
This is a special podcast taped at a party we held on Super Bowl Saturday in Minneapolis from our offices overlooking US Bank Stadium, the site of Super Bowl LII held the next day between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. My guests were two retired NFL players, Jack Brewer and Sergio Brown, and current NFL player Mackensie Alexander. The three players talked about what it’s like to play in the NFL, including their experiences with two of the greatest coaches of all time, Bill Belichick and Tom Coughlin, and their lives outside football. It is an amazing conversation unlike any you may have ever heard from professional athletes that will give you insight into what it takes to get to that level and how they apply those same skills to a life beyond football. There are lessons in the conversation for anyone and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did in hosting it.
