Our guest today is Jacqueline (Jack) Howard, head of Money Wellness at Ally Financial, a leading voice in financial health & wellness, and fierce change maker. We are thrilled to bring you this special episode recorded live from FinCon 2024 in Atlanta, GA! It's no secret that we love Ally and talk about them often on the podcast. From the high yield savings accounts to the cool buckets that are perfect for allocating your sinking funds, they're our favorite. But what really blew us away in this interview was Jack's money story and how it led to her incredible work as the face of financial wellness at Ally.  Jack blends personal finance and psychology to help people achieve holistic financial well-being that helps shift their perspective on money. She shares more about Ally's newest community initiative, Money Roots, a free financial education program designed to help people uncover the 'why' behind their money behaviors. Jack also gets vulnerable with us as she shares her own resilient story of the loss of her mother as a young girl and winning her heroic battle against breast cancer. With her giving spirit, she proudly served as chair of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Detroit in 2023 and 2024. Special thanks to LLC Attorney for sponsoring the Podcast booth at FinCon 2024.

He talks about new technologies to detect and fight breast cancer, he's part of the American Cancer Society's Men Wear Pink campaign, and he's spreading the word that the BEST outcomes after a breast cancer diagnosis, come from early detection.  Dr. Martin also says that because of the COVID pandemic, many people waited to get medical care, and when cancers were found, they were more advanced, which means for the first time in years, we may see death rates from breast cancer go back up.  Dr. Martin says as we keep researching, detecting earlier, and coming up with new treatments, we're making progress, but MUCH more needs to be done. Carol Hutchins wrapped up her 38th season at the helm of the University of Michigan softball program in 2022. The winningest coach in NCAA softball history, Hutchins has guided the Wolverines to an NCAA title and 22 Big Ten Conference titles and solidified Michigan among the top softball programs in the country. She was inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2006. With a career record of 1,707-551-5 over her 39 total seasons as a NCAA head coach, Hutchins is the winningest coach in NCAA softball history. "Hutch" has been a part of the Michigan softball program since 1983 when she joined the staff as an assistant coach under Bob DeCarolis. She moved into the head coach position in 1985 and, in each of her 38 head coaching seasons, has continued Michigan's tradition of softball success. Michigan has never suffered a losing season in program history. Hutchins has led the Wolverines to the Women's College World Series on 12 occasions, and, in 2005, the Maize and Blue became the first program east of the Mississippi River to claim the NCAA national championship when it defeated UCLA in the championship series. Michigan's record-setting 2005 season was the culmination of two decades of dedication for Hutchins and her current and former players and coaches. In that magical season, Michigan set records in a number of categories, including: First softball national championship • A program-best 65 wins • A program-best 32 consecutive victories (spanning 47 days, from Feb. 13 to March 30) • First No. 1 ranking (March 22) • First No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament • First victory over a top-ranked opponent (6-2 win over No. 1 Arizona) Before becoming Michigan's third softball coach, Hutchins spent one year as the head coach at Ferris State University (1982). While at Ferris, she led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Division II National Tournament and was selected Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Hutchins was an assistant coach at Indiana University (1981) -- under legendary coach Gayle Blevins -- and at Michigan (1983-84). Hutchins founded the Michigan Softball Academy in 2010 in conjunction with the program's annual "Pink Game." The academy is a one-night on-field clinic for adults that raises funds for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer organization. Hutchins and the Michigan softball program initially formed an affiliation with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer for its annual walk in 2007. Since then, the Wolverines have raised more than $1,000,000 for the American Cancer Society. https://mgoblue.com/sports/softball/roster/coaches/carol-hutchins/5645

(Let's Connect on Facebook5 years ago today you introduced yourself to me, my family, and friends.I just wanted to say Thank You for stopping by and impacting my life the way you did!I know you thought you were sneaky creeping into our lives without showing signs of a lump but what you didn't know is that I was (still am) in tune with my body and I knew something was wrong after having 6 days of anxiety and high blood pressure and knowing my hormones were out of whack which is what got me to the doctor in the first place. After a routine women's wellness exam & mammogram, as well as an MRI & biopsy you were discovered! You also didn't know who you were messing with because I don't play games but what I DO do is wake up every day on a mission of Changing The World, One S.M.I.L.E. At A TimeYou allowed me to find my Purpose at the intersection of Passion and Pain, which has allowed me to make an impact on others on so many levels and also help others navigate their journey as well! You introduced me to so many important lessons like:1. Listen to your body2. How to slow down and enjoy the moments in life3. How there is a HUGE gap between the medical and fitness industries4. That other women and families don't need to fight this alone5. How to say NO to people and things6. I have a gift that wasn't being used to its fullest potential7. And SOOO MUCH MORE!So what I've done with those amazing lessons in the last 5 years is:1. Had the Policies & Procedures changed at the hospital that lost my Lymph node which has never given me total clearance that cancer has not spread2. Raised & donated over $15,000 for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer & Bluewater Babes3. I've been an advocate and a voice for others to know it's OK to fire your medical team if they aren't a good fit for you4. I've launched a podcast (Bustin' Out of Breast Cancer) to have a platform to share my story and the stories of so many amazing Thrivers5. Became a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist to be able to help others navigate their recovery from surgery and treatment6. Met so many amazing women that have been diagnosed and have become friends7. Found so much confidence & clarity in my life8. Took back control of my life9. Incorporated into my Real Estate business plan that every transaction I close, a portion of my commission will go back to a breast cancer organization to help others10. And the list goes on!Because I will find the silver lining in everything!Hitting the 5 year cancer free milestone is a big deal and it seemed like it would be forever until I got here and trust me when I tell you the wind has been taken out of my sails on many occasions. I have even felt like a weeble wobble many times but as we know, weebles wobble, but they don't fall down!Rest assured my comeback is much greater than my setback! Thank you breast cancer, I'll take it from here!

Stacy Matseas joins Mary E., to celebrate the "Strides" made against breast cancer through the work of the American Cancer Society, "Making Strides" events. Her commitment is evident in her 10 year history of raising over a MILLION dollars for a cure.  Stacy became involved in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk as a team captain, and, fueled by the desire to strike down the feelings of helplessness and her belief in the work and mission of the Society, Stacy became one of the most successful fundraisers in history, having raised more than $1 million for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. “The first year, I raised $5,000,” Stacy said. “From there, I just remained persistent and passionate and formed a network of volunteers, supporters and teammates, and educated them about what Making Strides is about.” Stacy’s work with the American Cancer Society isn’t limited to her involvement with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. In addition to Stacy's story, we will focus on "Chicago is gearing up for the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Saturday, October 25 – Thousands of local breast cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers, businesses and community members will unite at the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk of Chicago on Saturday, October 25 at Soldier Field (Stadium Green, 1410 Museum Campus Drive)."
