In the music video for her new single with Manni Dee, Manuka Honey embarks on a money heist, robbing a venue with a comically tiny Louis Vuitton bag. Wearing a barely-there outfit, her cutesy goth girl demeanour and memeworthy one-liners capture many facets of modern-day pop culture. Whether through her music, fashion or astrology practice, the artist, born Marissa Malik, speaks to a large demographic of fans. Her sound is a composite of club genres from across the globe—everything from baile funk to gqom to pop edits. She he describes herself as an "unhinged, hostile girl" and is known for unfettered self-expression. "When you come to my sets, often, my tit will accidentally fall out or I'll step on the decks," she once told RA. Malik brings a sort of sensual chaos to the dance floor. Her DJ sets and productions are rooted in hot and humid rhythms that often distort into acrobatic shapes or blend into one another in a maximalist approach. Last year's Machete / 777 for Club Romantico combined elements of reggaeton with ballroom, while one Boiler Room show last year went from Waka Flocka's "No Hands" to new-school guaracha banger "Calentura Vaginal" (which translates to "vaginal heat"). She's dedicated to supporting the worldwide Latin diaspora through her music, which heavily skews towards regional styles like guaracha and raptor house, as well as with her collective and party SUZIO. Malik's many influences shine on her RA Podcast. Moving from dancehall to Afro house to bassy dembow, the hour-long high-intensity workout captures her core sound palette. It's energetic, steamy and a little disorienting—just how she likes it. @manuka_honey Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/921

This week's Local Selection Mix comes from Belfast born, Berlin based talent AOIFE. Fresh off the back of a debut in Tresor, AOIFE has supplied a 90 minute thriller full of twists and turns from groove, loops, bloops, EBM and slamming techno. DJ, event promoter, international publicist and label manager- AOIFE has confirmed her own place in Europe's dance music community. The Belfast born, Berlin based talent has firmly integrated herself amongst a variety of parties, starting a residency with Germany's Ravescape and having regular appearances with UK party starters Ape-X. AOIFE has formed an unapologetic approach to DJ sets, focusing on the sounds of untamed techno, driving electro, ebm and dance floor euphoria. The self-taught DJ has already appeared on notable platforms like Rinse FM, RTE Pulse & Kanal 6. After being tipped as ‘One To Watch‘ on Behind The Decks in 2020, AOIFE made a move to Berlin and has continued on an accelerated progression, rubbing shoulders on line ups with the likes of VTSS, Manni Dee, Keepsakes & O.B.I. at clubs including Tresor, Khidi Club, Suicide Club, Digital & World Headquarters, Rote Sonne in cities such as Newcastle – England, Amman – Jordan and Berlin & Munich – Germany & Tbilisi – Georgia. With a profound multifaceted ability, AOIFE strives to develop and mature her sound amongst the Berlin music scene, as she joins Percussive Agency. The future burns bright bright for this rising talent. This is a mix of different tracks, moments, moods and sounds that I've been playing over the last while. I'm preferring longer sets at the moment and getting the chance to build on energies so that's why this one has an extra half hour to a 60'minute podcasts as normal. Expect a bit of everything from groove, loops, bloops, EBM and slamming techno. We have the pleasure of premiering some more slamming Irish techno, this time courtesy of Ireland's next industrial prodigy, Sjush. The young producer features on TTIDM for a four track EP on 12 inch, today we premiere ‘Cataclysm' a slamming rave anthem that lyes on authoritative stabs, breakbeats, and blitzing kick drums. Sjush, a relatively fresh name in the realm of hard as nails techno, made his mark in 21′ with a spate of self-released EPs and an appearance on SPEED's free download series. The young up and coming artist's love for raw, seductive techno paired with a penchant for rave has left fans in hypnotic pleasure, making him one to watch and receiving praise from Manni Dee, Yasmin Gardezi, Pelin Vedis, RiotCode, and others. Sjush now arrives on Techno Is The Devil's Music with a quartet of hard edged rave tools. The EP is ripe with stabby grooves, hammering low end and crunching percussion. This is the perfect depiction of Sjush's priduction journey. Cataclysm is a rugged rave anthem that sounds like a peak-time at a warehouse party. This commands your attention as bashful stabbing chords punch through the mix, and bouldering kick drums drive the groove. This will be a big anthem this summer, for fan's of FJAAK & Kettama. In this episode of Awake All Hours, we begin with a brief recap of Primavera Sound before presenting our preview for the world's most famous festival, Glastonbury (9:24)! We do our best dissect the stupidly stacked clashfinder, highlighting significant electronic artists and unmissable sets, from the main stages to the darkest recesses of the festival, for those interested or attending next weekend. Highlights include but certainly not limited to a Sports Banger Mega Rave, Cinthie shutting down Genosys, a tantalising B2B between LCY and Blawan, swaying merrily in front of Firmly Rooted Soundsytem all day, Shygirl performing live on a giant head and an all night Booty Bass take over!We follow with album reviews, featuring the new noise rap head-spinner 'Nothing To Declare' by 700 Bliss (42:32), Parrish Smith's genre distorting ‘Light, Cruel & Vain' (57:00) and µ-Ziq's pillowy IDM dream, ‘Magic Pony Ride' (1:10:58). We finish, as always, with What's In My Bandcamp Basket (1:22:58), rounding up our favourite fresh club-ready cuts, featuring Manni Dee, Luca Lozano, DJ Polo & Ramzee, Angel D'lite and more!SUPPORT THE ARTISTS: https://buymusic.club/list/awakeallhours-ep-052-glastonbury-festival-preview-700-bliss-parrish-smith-and-ziqSUPPORT AWAKE ALL HOURS: www.patreon.com
Nothing's changed in fifty episodes, as we have plenty of giggles, music chit-chat, navigate dodgy internet connection and deal with a leaking roof...In this episode, we put our usual programming on hold to get rather sentimental and nostalgic about running this humble DIY podcast for just over two years and fifty episodes! We begin by discussing some of our favourite moments as a podcast and our hopes for the future, before getting stuck into Awake All Hours' Greatest Hits - starting with some honourable mentions before each highlighting five of our favourite ever releases covered on the show, featuring aya, Lyra Pramuk, Manni Dee, Wordcolour, Krust and many more!As always, a HUGE thank you to everyone who has listened and contributed to Awake All Hours in any way. Our second premiere of the week, follows in the vain of rough and rugged industrial techno but this time it's coming from homegrown talent. Sjush provides a roaring industrial techno tool. sjush is a DJ & producer who launched himself on to the scene in 2021 with a pair of self-released EPs, along with an appearance on SPEED's free download series FREESPEED. The youngster blends 90's jungle & rave sounds with modern, hard-hitting techno. sjush's productions boast hypnotic hooks & heavy drums, and have received support from Daria Kolosova, Decadence, Manni Dee, High Fidelity & more. sjush's track Chaos is a great representation of where the young producer is at with his productions as he displays, hard hitting energy, soaked in distortion. The backbone of Chaos is driven by a pounding kick drum that plays off distorted atmospheres. A captivating vocal and siren like stabs plays a menacing call and response like rhythm. Tough techno that is sure to tear up dance floors up and down the country. Manni Dee finds comfort in vibing off a room full of people who are lost in abrasive textures and high octane rhythms. It is that industrial brand of techno which he has perfected over the years, not least on his new Perc Trax LP, A Low Level Love. It is his second full length after 2018's The Residue on Tresor and shows a marked evolution in his sound. While still defined by blistering drum patterns and caustic synths, there is also plenty of melody and introspection in the record. As much as it is a fresh look for him, it's a fresh sound for techno, too. On this week's podcast, the London based artist goes hard and fast. He pays homage to his love of grime with a blistering industrial rework of a Stormzy track which launches us into a world of distorted drums and tortured synths. The ensuing barrage of sound is coloured with everything from trance chords to club rhythms and lashings of acid. It's a full throttle mix that is always on the move, much like Manni Dee himself.

Balrog is a producer and DJ from Leeds (UK), who has supplanted himself in the darker and grittier side of industrial techno with a focus on heavy groove-ridden drums, driving bass, and distorted vocals. His tracks and DJ mixes look back to the classic hard and grooving techno of the early 2000's, but with a fresh injection of modern industrial power. Balrog has gone from strength to strength over the last few years playing at events such as Jaded and releasing on labels including Moments In Time, The Meaning of Rave, COUP, Green Fetish, Taro, and Gobsmacked. These releases and many unreleased tracks have received support from some of the biggest in the scene including Amelie Lens, Dax J, Rebekah, Paula Temple, Manni Dee, Tham, and many more. 2021 is set to be a huge year for Balrog with forthcoming releases on Soma, Green Fetish, Etruria, and Instruments of Discipline. Balrog also runs his own record label, Khazad Records, which releases music from the very best industrial and hard techno talent around. We welcome DJ Tool, Hyperaktivist and Nayme who together form the Berlinbased collective Mala Junta. Offering an escape and a safe bonding place for the German capital's queer scene, the group highlight the values of inclusivity, support, friendship and community, and feature a diverse music mix of the faster, funkier, grooving old school techno, effortlessly blended with psychedelic trance and breaks. Their ideals for family and community are further instilled by their strict limited capacity events, making Mala Junta one of Berlin’s best kept rave secrets. In this chat with Nayme, Ana Laura (Hyperaktivist) and Jo-Jo (DJ TOOL) we found out how the three bonded together and became friends well beyond the dancefloor and the events they have been organizing. We explore what it takes to embody and support diversity and inclusion and how dealing with challenging situations is an opportunity to lead by example. We address why we should all be talking openly about hard problems, and - between a few wine glasses and a laugh - we remind ourselves that there is something we all need now more than ever: more humanity, music and connection with each other. Christoph Heinze, better known as Inhalt der Nacht joins us for our next exclusive Home of Sound podcast. Berlin-born, his sound has been shaped by influences from cold wave and new wave, blended seamlessly with elements of the rock music that he was exposed to in his younger days. Having already established his name as one of the most progressive DJ’s in his genre, Christoph has pioneered his own label: Lebendig from which he pushes fellow Dj’s and artists’ productions alongside his own. 2019 saw Christoph’s track “Dosis'' spread through the underground scene of Berlin like wildfire after it appeared on the compilation album “The World of Monom Black” put out by the illustrious Dax J and his eponymous label . Christoph’s eminence nowadays has granted him residency to some of the biggest clubs across Germany including Griessmühle Berlin, Khidi Tbilisi and Rote Sonne Munich In this chat Christoph talks us through his experiences playing and producing techno and also his experimental explorations with theatre scoring in Cuba and eventually in Germany. We delve into Christoph’s past, recounting his first experiences with the underground scene as well the music that influenced him and provided the foundations to his raw and unbound resonate that we know today. We also look at labels and how artists are nurtured around them, and we get first hand insight into how he became resident of Rote Sonne, Griessemhule and Khidi and get a sense of the ever evolving drive of this artist toward fresh and non conventional sounds. Jamaica Suk is a poly instrumentalist musician, performer, producer and DJ. Besides her residency of Pornceptual she also co-owns her label Gradient. Suk grew up in California and developed a passion for music from a very young age. Having studied piano, flute and bass, she worked as both a jazz and rock musician, before her adoration for electronic music took over and helped ignite her career as a DJ. In all the years she’s put in, Jamaica developed not only a profound relationship with music, but also an incredible work ethic that keeps her in the studio as well as on stage for 6 days a week. Jamaica describes her story from the early days with the music that influenced her career and led her to explore techno on a deeper and more personal level . Rome wasn’t built in a day, and as we see from her achievements, artists’ careers take continuous work and time to materialise. She also gives details on how she got involved in Pornceptual, her approach to deciding what music to release and how she is helping other musicians with 1:1 tutoring. Jamaica shines for her output and technical preparation, and if you continue listening till the end, Suk reveals her secret for continuing to be productive even when inspiration is nowhere to be found. Manchester based DJ and promoters Blasha & Allatt join us for a chat about the music industry and their background promoting and playing a growing number of parties in the UK and internationally. The duo, who has been developing a strong bond in working together for years, share their passion for music and experience about the natural ups and downs of the creator’s journey. Blasha & Allatt were first introduced to each other by a common friend. They almost instantly enjoyed playing records together and started DJing back-to-back. Eventually with an extended group of friends, they started Meat Free, a well respected regular event in Manchester, that allowed them to host artists such as Ben Sims, Haai, Surgeon, Hector Oaks, Nur Jaber, Sunil Sharpe, Claire Morgan, Manni Dee, Dr Rubinstein… and many more. In this chat, we talk about their love for records and music, their history and the learnings from working with other people; and also how they played Boiler Room, preparing for gigs and the challenges of working as a duo. We discuss life experiences (including breaking Ben Sim’s tooth) and the ups and downs that creators - at least most of them - are likely to face. We look at how the scene is bound to evolve due to the current world crisis and the possibility to have more space for the grassroots of the scene: the local artists. Manni Dee is a producer and DJ and is regularly featured on Perc Trax’s releases and shows. His music can be described as harsh and broken techno and his sets are widely appreciated by artists and fans worldwide. Since his first EP released back in 2011, Manni has been developing his own signature sound that has brought him to perform in events all over the world. He landed on labels such as Candela Rising, Earwiggle, Osiris, S.L.A.M., Tresor (where he released his first album in 2018), Leyla Records and of course, Perc Trax, where he developed a very good connection with founder Perc himself. In this podcast, we take a look at Manni’s inspiration and origins and his experiences with gigs and internet trolls. Going back to his school days and first experiences with music, we talk about Keith , the sound engineer who has been among the first people to support young Manni. We touch on subjects such as appreciating more of what we have, finding a healthy life balance and not rushing to send out music for demos. And we discover one of Manni’s tools to avoid being overwhelmed and to boost creativity: imposing limitations. Hailing from Northern Ireland, Dahryl is relatively new to production, with his first productions surfacing in 2017. Since then, he's caught the attention of plenty of techno heavyweights that were particularly influential to him like Paula Temple, Rebekah, Manni Dee and many more. Here, he delivers us a stomping warehouse techno tune due for release with User Experience label on Thursday, July 19.
Ladies and gentleman, continuing the ravaging sounds from the last episode, the next guest on the series is one of the most abominable techno artists hailing from the UK around, MANNI DEE. With releases across Perc, THEM, and Earwiggle to name a few his sound is truly unrelenting and absolutely pummeling -- fitting for the true fiends at heart. His contribution to The Erratic Podcast comes as a live recording from one of his recent gigs in Malta and surely leaves no heads un-chopped; it's 1 hour of superb, demolishing techno and comes just in time for his upcoming gig with MOTZ on March 16th in his hometown of London (info + interview here: https://goo.gl/kCZqU8). Without further ado, please welcome Manni Dee mixing live and unleashing an avalanche of breathtaking, high-octane techno. Enjoy! www.facebook.com/mannideemusic www.residentadvisor.net/dj/mannidee www.discogs.com/artist/2213237-manni-dee - Erratic is comprised of a small team of passionate curators hosting proper Techno parties in New York City. www.ErraticNYC.com | www.fb.com/ErraticNYC
Since the turn of the millennium, UK artist Alistair Wells has been putting out a tough and abrasive brand of experimental techno that cannot fail to arrest your attention. Always skewing existing ideas into his own new—often brutalist—ways of thinking, his output has seen him become an in demand live act and DJ who plays across three decks all over the world. He does so under the alias Perc, mostly on his own label Perc Trax, and at the same time he has also brought on a number of likeminded artists from Ansome to Manni Dee. His own catalogue boasts albums like Wicker & Steel and The Power And The Glory, and these have rightfully won him deserved time in the limelight. That fact proves that although Wells has been around for years, he is as vital now as ever. As such he brings something new to our mix series across an hour of lively selections. Very quickly settling into a high tempo, high impact groove, there are maximalist techno cuts, passages of angst ridden noise and thumping bangers all bolted together into something uncompromisingly physical and in your face. Franky, it’s a vital visceral offering that would work at any point in the past, present or future of techno.
