We've got loads to get stuck into this week, so thanks for joining us! Joe is in something of a golf purgatory. Should he resign his PGA membership to become a full-time vibesman on the golf course? And, should he start playing clubs he thinks look cool, rather than have any function? After that, we take a brief look at the Tour's take-up of zero torque putters. What has been the reaction from Tour players to this growing trend, and is the argument for zero torque putters starting to win more people over?  Ask The Pod wants to understand why iron shafts are getting longer and longer. Are manufacturers just trying to sneak a bit more clubhead speed and distance under our noses, or is there something physiological contributing to longer 'standard' length clubs? Finally, we're delighted to welcome recent DP World Tour winner and Staffordshire's finest, Richard Mansell, onto the show. We met up with Richard at the launch of the new Adidas Originals clothing line, and he offered some brilliant insights about his time as an equipment free agent and his current work as a full-time Titleist staffer.  Link to the Fujikura competition (opens June 2nd): https://www.fujikuragolf.com/battle-at-bethpage Chapters:  0:00:00 Intro, waffle and new bits on set 0:06:44 Joe's quandry - should he give up his PGA and be a full-time vibesman? 0:18:30 Is anyone on Tour using zero torque putters? Adidas Originals and global music icon Bad Bunny have teamed up once again to introduce their latest collaboration: the Ballerina sneaker. This new footwear release represents a fusion of Bad Bunny's distinctive style with Adidas' rich heritage of craftsmanship and innovation. Known for his genre-blending music and eclectic fashion sense, Bad Bunny has continued to make waves not only in the music industry but also in the fashion world, and this collaboration further cements his influence. The Ballerina sneaker is a testament to both Bad Bunny's unique artistic vision and Adidas' commitment to pushing the boundaries of sneaker design. The shoe's aesthetic is inspired by the graceful yet powerful imagery associated with ballet, combining elegant lines with a robust structure. This balance reflects Bad Bunny's approach in both his music and fashion choices, where he frequently blends the unconventional with the traditional.Key features of the Ballerina sneaker include a sleek silhouette with flexible materials that allow for comfort and mobility, reminiscent of the movement inherent in dance. Adidas and Bad Bunny have chosen a color palette that includes soft pastels and bold contrasts, mirroring Bad Bunny's ability to mix unexpected yet harmonious elements. In addition, the shoe boasts unique branding elements, such as signature motifs and logos that highlight the collaborative nature of this project. This collaboration is not just about creating a new product; it is about telling a story through design. The Ballerina sneaker reflects themes of empowerment and expression, encouraging wearers to embrace their individuality. It signals a shift in the traditional view of sneakers as merely athletic wear, positioning them instead as cultural symbols reflective of personal and artistic expression.Bad Bunny's partnership with Adidas has been consistent, with previous successful launches that resonate strongly with fans and fashion enthusiasts alike. The Ballerina sneaker follows this trend, with anticipation already building among followers of both Bad Bunny and Adidas. The collaboration is more than a commercial venture; it represents a cultural dialogue between music, fashion, and individual identity. As Adidas Originals and Bad Bunny continue their creative partnership, the release of the Ballerina sneaker serves as another milestone in Bad Bunny's expanding influence beyond music and into broader cultural and style territories. This release is eagerly anticipated by an audience eager to see what new directions the collaboration will explore next.

Adidas has demonstrated steady market performance, an example being the 8% currency-neutral growth noted for Q1 2024. This growth was attributed in part to Adidas's portfolio diversity, with specific mention of the successful lifestyle footwear franchises Terrace, Campus, and the SL72 lines. Adidas's reach extends beyond footwear, with expansions into soccer, running, trail running, and basketball sectors, contributing to its market appeal. The company reported that collaborations with various artists and designers have bolstered Adidas's market position. Acerbating this are substantial investments in marketing, infrastructure, store development, and factories, further testifying the commitment to the brand's growth.During the earnings call, the company's understanding of consumer trends was noted as a driving force behind Adidas's growth strategy. They reported an increase in their Lifestyle segment, particularly in franchises like Terrace, Campus, SL72, and Superstar. Adidas Originals has seen an increase in popularity among female consumers—a demographic they stated they were capitalizing on—according to statements made during the earnings call. The brand's strategic partnerships and marketing efforts were cited as beneficial in promoting this trend. The company also stated its efforts in balancing local and global trends, proving an ability to adapt while maintaining its unique brand identity.Looking ahead, the company reportedly aims to maintain momentum via investments in marketing and sales. The goal, as stated in the earnings call, is to achieve mid- to high-single-digit growth in its top-line and to increment its EBIT guidance, indicating a measured but optimistic outlook. The idea of expanding the brand through new products and widening successful franchises in both performance and lifestyle categories was also confirmed as strategic. In conclusion, the company, based on its own report, demonstrates financial stability, a broad product portfolio, strategic marketing, and commitment to future investments. Given the conveyed details, the company seems prepared to navigate changing consumer trends, balance regional preferences with global consistency, and possibly maintain a competitive position in the market. It should, however, be noted that conclusions are drawn based on the company's earnings call and the actual outcome may vary as it is subject to market dynamics and unforeseen changes. Throughout 2021, a huge portion of news and media cycles surrounded their coverage on the emergence and explosion in popularity of non-fungible tokens, or NFTs. Operating as a new class of digital assets, the concept of NFTs has caused a ripple effect throughout industries and markets the world over. While 2021 may have been the year that saw NFTs gaining traction, 2022 may be the year that they truly take off.In this article, we'll cover the top trends to watch regarding NFTs in 2022 with experts Martin Stava (Co-founder, STRV) and Barron Solomon (Founder & CEO, Solo Music). Keep reading to learn more about each of these trends!1. PFPsA profile picture, or PFP for short, is a type of NFT that has grown immensely in popularity alongside the broader notion of NFTs, themselves. For example, in 2017, CryptoPunks defined an entire category of PFPs through their generative NFT collection that grants users the ability to represent their internet identity with one of their NFTs as an online avatar or PFP. More recently, social media platform Twitter introduced verified hexagonal avatars as part of their Twitter Blue program. This tells us that this trend is far from over and is bound to continue growing throughout 2022.2. IRL UtilityNFTs have already showcased their ability to serve as a utility in real life, or “IRL,” beyond the online digital realms of Discord, OpenSea, Twitter, or other platforms. As NFTs act as a token, they can be utilized as a gateway to access certain IRL experiences (i.e. private memberships). Some examples of top-performing NFT membership groups include Kevin Rose's PROOF Collective, Gary Vee's Veefriends, and Adidas Originals's Into The Metaverse NFT, the latter of which allows NFT holders to redeem physical merchandise in multiple stages and keep the NFT as a gateway to their future metaverse experiences. The Flyfish Club, another NFT membership program instituted by Vaynerchuk, shows how restaurants can leverage NFTs for private memberships, exclusivity, and rewards. Looking deeper into 2022, we can easily imagine how this model can translate to other IRL experiences and activities like wellness, sports clubs, and more.3. 3D Avatars & InteroperabilityInteroperability refers to the basic ability of different computerized products or systems to readily connect and exchange information with one another — in either implementation or access — without restriction. For instance, Larva Labs recently released an application programming interface (API) that allows games and other projects access to the 3D models of Meebits. Another group of 3D avatars released as NFTs includes SnoopDog's The Doggies, a collection of 3D avatars playable in the sandbox-style environment within the Metaverse. Jadu Mirrorverse provides these avatars

The latest news from Adidas is shaking the crypto headlines since Adidas Originals tweeted that they partner up with Coinbase to accept payments in cryptocurrencies. This is actually a proof of an increased adoption of the cryptocurrencies by traditional companies. If this is ‘probably nothing', the SandBox partnership is something big, as the NFTs are about to become the next advertisement tool and the potential is huge because the digital ads market is huge! In traditional market news, the market mood is rather ok-ish after the FOMC minutes, although Federal Reserve (Fed) minutes showed that the US policymakers are now considering a faster QE taper and an earlier interest rate hike if inflation continues running higher. The US 2-year yield continues pushing higher on rising expectation of a tighter Fed policy, but appetite in US equities is not much hit. Nasdaq, which is supposed to be the most sensitive to higher rates closed yesterday's session higher than the other major US indices, while gold slipped below the $1800 per ounce as the rising yields increase the opportunity cost of holding the non-interest-bearing gold, at a time when the risk rally promises bigger returns to investors who invest in, well, risky assets.

Therefore when Nina states that the biggest thing affecting us all in the UK right now is Brexit, that is obviously not the case now, although it is still a very important topic. In this episode Nina is joined by Yasmin Hurst and Peter Allen to discuss the question; is change a team sport? which was inspired by the Adidas Originals brilliant campaign called "Change is a Team Sport" to celebrate 50 years since the launch of their iconic Superstar shoes, which have been at the forefront of popular culture ever since. For those of you who don't know, the Adidas Superstar is a shoe, trainer or sneaker, depending on where you are from. The campaign was directed by Jonah Hill and it stars old and new Adidas collaborators. Delivering change is complicated, it's a mixture of science and magic. A Human Approach to Innovation and Change was developed so that we could try and understand the magic, the human elements that are difficult to identify on balance sheets and profit and loss accounts but are essential if change is to be successful and sustainable. Nina, Yasmin and Pete share their experiences on balancing the role of the individual and the team as well as discussing what every team needs if it's going to deliver change. In February 2020 Adidas Originals launched a brilliant campaign called "Change is a Team Sport". Nina thought that this was the perfect discussion topic for her catch up with two former Cheeky Monkeys, Yasmin Hurst and Peter Allen.

A show dedicated to artists from the Kenyan and Ugandan underground. Kenyan musician and singer-songwriter Labdi, the only female Orutu player in East Africa, is going to guide us through the episode. She’ll be asking the group how they settled on making their authentic sounds, if they feel free creatively, and whether the influence of West African music is a positive or negative. Answering those questions is: Hibotep, a Ugandan counter-culture visionary, DJ, filmmaker, fashion designer, installation artist, rapper and producer. She’s performed twice for Boiler Room at Nyege Nyege Festival and is one of the lead artists in East Africa’s New Wave. Karun is a Nairobi-based singer and songwriter, Berklee College of Music alumni and formerly part of the BET Awards nominated Camp Mulla. She’s now a solo artist and one of Kenya’s most celebrated soul voices, appearing in Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 last year. And Faizal Mostrixx is one of Kampala’s most recognised contemporary dancers and a producer giving traditional Ugandan sounds a modern makeover with electronics in an effort to preserve its heritage. He also featured in the Resident Advisor artist 15 East African Artists You Need to Hear, and he recently provided the music for the Adidas Originals campaign Freedom.

Today we are in the fashion department talking about a new pair of court shoes. I like doing interesting things for exercise and fun. Personally, I don't see much fun in sitting on a stationary bike or walking on a treadmill for forty minutes. So I go hiking, inline skating, play disc golf, and lift weights. That last one may not be interesting or fun to some people, but I enjoy it. I have been trying to find interesting ways to get cardio exercise, and one of the things I've been doing (or planning to do) is playing racquetball. The last time I played I used my Brooks Adrenaline running shoes (https://amzn.to/2VcBZGJ for men, https://amzn.to/2JwPiQ0 for women) and injured my ankle! And a theme this year is that I am buying shoes specifically designed for my various activities. So I needed some court shoes. I did some searching, and then I remembered a product I had already used for years that I really liked. Read the full post at http://RunningAFEVER.com/158 Weight 7-day Avg. In the course of her conversation with Alan, O’Hare talks about the value of courage in leading a brand. “You have to embody and show it,” says O’Hare. “I think you really have to transmit it, be authentic and genuine about it — and be championing it. And be celebrating it when it’s successful.” That isn’t to say O’Hare endorses a “fools rush in” approach when it comes to courage: “It’s not about taking risks for risk’s sake,” she adds. “It’s got to be part of the strategy, it’s got to be close to the values of the brand, it’s got to make business sense.” Highlights from this week’s “Marketing Today” podcast include: O’Hare believes she was defined by both her parents’ career paths — businessperson and artist — to become the person she is today. Ferdinando is a founding member and creative director at Johannes Leonardo (New York). Born in Parma, he was classically educated in Ancient Greek, Latin and philosophy, which he credits with his inbuilt curiosity and ability to think creatively in abstract terms. His roots run deep: from advertising, through art, photography, fashion, economics, magazine publishing and the recent co-authorship of the inspiring book – We Can't Do This Alone – with Jefferson Hack. We learn how the future doesn't necessarily need to be as bleak and dystopian as many are forecasting; why it's important to understand that every life choice we make is far-from-final; how the ‘younger you' should be your biggest critic as you advance through life; and why the bigger the problems we have, may mean the bigger the life that we're actually living. As two wise Chemically enhanced men once said, ‘The brothers gonna work it out’. It’s an adage the Smokingroove brothers - Safe and Marko - have taken to heart and we’re glad to have worked out getting them on the Gangstercast for episode 43. Starting off the main part of their career in their native home of London, they cut their teeth on the underground club scene in the 90s and their style of “deep, Chicago-flavored House music with a Jacking vibe” has seen them sign records to Roger Sanchez’s Stealth Records and DJ Sneak’s Magnetic Recordings, as well as penning a string of releases on their own Illuminati Recordings imprint. Their love of House music has prevailed and they reflect, “[House music] is the spirit of clubs, the people we meet and the life we have. For a musical genre, it’s pretty special in that way.“ They’ve hosted radio shows for over 10 years and it’s perhaps on the DJ front that the brothers have made their biggest impact. With both Safe and Marko now based in Dubai, they hold down the most coveted residency in the Middle East at the much-copied but never bettered Nasimi Beach, and have played huge events such as Creamfields Abu Dhabi, Pete Tong’s Wonderland, El Divino Ibiza and Savannah Ibiza as well as countless legendary UK clubs. More recently they have become brand ambassadors for Adidas Originals, New Era & Pioneer DJ and they have mixed the first in a series of Pacha Dubai CDs. Episode 43 of the Gangstercast allows Smokingroove to flex their DJ muscles, as they explain, “Over the last 16 years, we’ve built our own mental-inventory of great records and music we honestly love and feel. The mix captures our love of the sound. This mix was recorded live so everything in there is pretty indicative of what we play. You’re getting the Smokingroove sound in this mix. This isn’t a practiced, studio set. Real deal, one-shot take.” They add that the House Gangster movement is, “like a global clique of people who all vibe off the same music and mentality. House is a broad genre so this feels like membership to an exclusive global family within that. Real underground House music with a street-edge to it. A little something for everyone but keeping the beats correct and a definitive underground vibe.”
