Mushtaidi Park, built in the 19th century by the Iranian refugees with personal (living close by) motives, has with time turned into an open public space. Despite the fact, that the park was owned by various individuals throughout the years, it has maintained the character of the place for gathering, having fun, wandering, holding open theatres, concerts, festivals, bars, and carnivals. The whole project on > www.common-waves.com www.publicartplatform.org For that reason, the sound of Mushtaidi Park is quite diverse. The voices that co-exist there through different dimensions, with moving within the space itself; those that change in real-time and create the feeling of movement – is somewhat unusual from a sonic point of view. Thereby, the recording/material would be more descriptive of the space than merely an audio-reportage about it. Regardless of non-pretentious architectural value/importance, which in turn, emphasized the significance of temporarily eliminating social differences and encouraged being and communicating in a joint space, with its eclecticism, Mushtaidi Park is one of the more important cultural places of Tbilisi. Irakli Chantladze After working in the sound department (foley art) of one of the TV stations, I, in 2012, have begun to make field recordings, which I then mix and master and place together as a composition, both through electro-acoustic music and sound collage practices.

Irakli is a Georgian-born, Berlin based DJ & producer, who also runs his own imprint Intergalactic Research Institute for Sound and the event series and label STAUB. He has been around the block for over ten years, juggling between events, releases and sets played internationally. And he openly shares how much he believes in the importance of creating something unique and special. Irakli studied architecture and has always been attracted to art. Eventually moving to Germany - Cologne first and then Berlin, he found a supportive and stimulating environment in the German capital. Through his platform STAUB, he shaped a musical and artistic direction that is centered around the artist's sounds. In fact, both STAUB’s parties and releases are presented without mentioning the artists’ names, in order for people to listen and discover with an open mind. In our conversation, we track back his inspiration and love for music and explore some of his current projects - such as re-releasing a vocal ambient track by Chikiss alongside a remix by Stanislav Tolkachev. As he outlines how he chooses music he likes and shapes ideas into finished products, what strikes us in this conversation is Irakli’s outlook on life: he is calm, focused and propositive. We also talk about how mistakes are a useful tool to learn and progress. -- Irakli -- FB: https://www.facebook.com/iraklimusiciy SC https://soundcloud.com/irakli IG: https://www.instagram.com/i_r_a_k_l_i_ S: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0cdagg1Oe9m0vDU1jklBup Intergalactic Research Institute for Sound BC https://intergalacticresearchinstituteforsound.bandcamp.com IRIFS SC: https://soundcloud.com/intergalactic-research Chikiss. + Stanislav release: https://intergalacticresearchinstituteforsound.bandcamp.com/album/baby-bye-2020-version STAUB IG: https://www.instagram.com/techno_staub Michailo (Georgian producer who used to be in prison): https://www.facebook.com/MICHAILOSecretArea Liquid Sky Collective To Plant Over 20 Thousand Trees in Portugal: https://www.electronicbeats.net/the-feed/liquid-sky-reforestation-project-portugal -- Home Of Sound -- https://linktr.ee/home_of_sound HoS X Adam Heaton: Irakli interview + playlist: https://www.adam-heaton.co.uk/playlists/home-of-sound

John Cage - Translating Basho's Haiku Jackson Mac Low - Free Gatha 1 & 2 Jackson Mac Low - Words nd Ends from Ez Ezra Pound - Canto XLV (+ დათო ბარბაქაძის ქართული თარგმანი) DUENDE is a weekly audio project created by Irakli Qolbaia for Community Radio Tbilisi; it views radio format as a modern-day version of an age-old poetic form: oral poetry. In this form, DUENDE will bring news from the world of poetry. In the world of poetry, news does not imply actualities or novelties. Poetry is news that stays news, said Ezra Pound. DUENDE aims to confound the multiplicities of poetic voices into a joined audio texture. As in Orpheus imagined by Jean Cocteau, the poetic act is not unlike the messages from elsewhere received through the radio. This could be used as a core metaphor in the context of our channelings. Importance of the act of sharing poetry by a speaking mouth to a listening ear is well expressed by these words of the American poet, Clark Coolidge: Words have a universe of qualities other than those of descriptive relation: Hardness, Density, Sound-Shape, Vector-Force, & Degrees of Transparency/Opacity. The title of our channeling is taken from Lorca's seminal lecture. It was Lorca who linked this figure of the Spanish folklore, the earthly demon of inspiration and imagination, to the poetic act. A poet is struggling with Duende, not with an angel, or a muse. According to Lorca himself, Duende is that mysterious force that all can sense but no philosopher can explain. This is the domain of poetry. “The arrival of the duende presupposes a radical change to all the old kinds of form, brings totally unknown and fresh sensations, with the qualities of a newly created rose, miraculous, generating an almost religious enthusiasm.” (Federico Garcia Lorca, Theory and Play of the Duende) Irakli Qolbaia is a poet who was born and is currently living in Tbilisi, Georgia. Early on, he decided to follow an advice he found in a film by François Truffaut, Jules et Jim: "Travel, write, translate, learn how to live everywhere. Start right away: the future belongs to the curious by profession". AND THEN WE DANCED is a passionate tale of love and liberation set amidst the ultraconservative confines of modern Georgian society, AND THEN WE DANCED follows Merab, a devoted dancer who has been training for years with his partner Mary for a spot in the National Georgian Ensemble. The arrival of another male dancer, Irakli—gifted with perfect form and equipped with a rebellious streak—throws Merab off balance, sparking both an intense rivalry and romantic desire that may cause him to risk his future in dance as well as his relationships with Mary and his family. Director, writer and editor Levan Akin joins us to talk about is sensitive and moving account of finding love, no matter the cost and the way his film has opened a hopeful dialog in his beloved Georgia. Director’s Statement: In Georgia there are three things that are upheld as the paragon of Georgian Tradition and National Identity: the Church, the traditional polyphonic singing, and the traditional national dance. The lead person I follow in the film actually shares the same name as me, his name is Levan and he is a dancer, I too used to dance when I was younger and I imagined being him in an alternate reality. I interviewed a lot of dancers and they all told me stories of how gender conservative and strict the Georgian Dance scene was. So I decided to set the story in this setting. The Georgian Dance would represent the “old” and the burgeoning love between two of the dancers would represent the new. With this film I find myself really going back to my roots as a filmmaker, working in an organic way, where the real lives of the people in the film and what’s going on in Georgia now affects the story. It is ever evolving. Telling the story of young LGBT+ people and their struggles on a smaller scale but also showing the history and situation of Georgia today on a larger scale. This film will not only be a very interesting look into a part of the world not so many people are familiar with but also a heartfelt movie about the importance of being free. - Levan Akin For news and updates go to: musicboxfilms.com/film/and-then-we-danced Social Media facebook.com/musicboxfilms twitter.com/musicboxfilms instagram.com/musicboxfilms/ facebook.com/andthenwedanced/ twitter.com/atwdfilm instagram.com/andthenwedanced/

On Borders With Irakli Sabekia (Leisure, BA) and Axel Coumans (Food Non Food, BA) in conversation with Agata Jaworska and Arif Kornweitz Can borders ever do justice to that which they contain? Irakli Sabekia with his project 'Voicing Borders' and Axel Coumans with his project 'Streaming Sandwaves' concern themselves with various injustices that borders are bound up with. By turning the Russian-Georgian barbed-wire fence border into a radio transmitter that emits in morse code the names of the Georgian towns that have been erased due to Russian occupation, Irakli Sabekia subverts a weapon of occupation into a tool for voicing a protest against itself. With a self-made machine that scans ripples left in the sand by a retreating tide and translates them into an audible signal, Axel Coumans underlies the integrity of the North Sea, with the longer-term ambition of contributing to the recognition of the North Sea as a political entity. Through inventive technical interventions, both projects enable alternative readings of border regions, and voice perspectives that for too long have gone unheard.

If you want to understand the international competitive dynamics of artificial intelligence, particularly the US and China, starting with the United Nations is probably not a bad move. This week, I spoke with Irakli Beridze, the head of the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at the UN, particularly under the wing called UNICRI, the organization's crime and justice division. Irakli was kind enough to invite me to speak at a recent event in Shanghai held by the UN and by the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies on national security, and when we were there, we talked a good deal about China's unique AI-related strengths. I spoke with Irakli about the strengths of the ecosystem in China for artificial intelligence and how that stacks up against the US. In addition, I asked Irakli about what it's going to look like to encourage more and more multilateral action. In other words, how do we get countries to be on the same page so AI doesn't become an arms race?
